Importing images - best res and file type?

What is the best file type and resolution for creating crisp
graphics in Flash, when importing from Photoshop?
Thanks,
Amanda

Amanda,
It all depends on the size of your stage and what you plan
on doing with the graphics. If you will not be zooming in on your
image save it at 300dpi. If you plan on making the image larger
than its original size I would say make it 600dpi, then you can at
least scale it up twice as large without it getting pixelated.
Scaling down is not a problem, it's scaling up that can get you in
trouble. If your image has transparency then save it as a PNG file.
That way you'll be able to use all of your transparent areas
effectively. I usually just save my files as PNG anyway then if I
decide to go in an mess with them later on I won't have to convert
to a different format.
hope that helps.

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I updated to one of the firefox versions (Not sure which one it was)

    Thanks Alex, but sadly I already tried that. Neither .docx or .xlsx files show up in the content list. They both show as a Chrome HTML document so changing how Firefox addresses those doesn't help since it thinks its the same type of file. I don't think I can manually add files into the "Content Type" left side nav.

    The ipad won't sync some photos, saying the file can't be read by the ipad, however it will sync some photos taken at the same time which are the same size and file type.  Why does it reject some and accept others?

    Hi there. I'm having the same problem: my iPad won't import some photos from a folder, saying that they can't be read. They are all JPEGS and some photos taken at the same time have synched fine, but out of a folder with 200 photos, it only lets me synch 37. I'm synching albums created via Photoshop Elements 6, which has worked fine until now.
    I've tried deleting all photos and re-synching, and have also deleted the iPod Photo Cache, but it hasn't made a difference.
    The iPad auto-updated to the latest version of iTunes, so maybe that's what's causing it?
    Any advice gratefully received!

  • Creator Codes and File Types

    I'm on my first day with Snow Leopard and a brand new iMac. So far, so good. But I had this great little AppleScript droplet that I used all throughout Mac OS X 10.0 to 10.5 which allowed you to drop a jpeg file on it which was created in PhotoShop and it would change the Creator Code and File Type so that it would default to opening in Preview. But it doesn't work under SL now. Has something changed with Creator Codes and File Types under SL? Maybe there's another way to do this? I sure miss it - these little things that you use every day and then all of a sudden, you can't use them anymore. Any suggestions or workarounds?

    Creator codes are totally deprecated in snow leopard. as for a workaround you can use something like this.
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    on open these_items
    repeat with this_item in these_items
    tell application "Finder"
    set the_file to POSIX path of (this_item as alias)
    tell application "System Events"
    set default application of file (the_file) to ("Main HD:Applications:Preview.app" as alias)
    end tell
    end tell
    end repeat
    end open</pre>
    save it as an application and drop files onto it to set them to open with Preview.

  • FileChooser - "switch off" file name field and file type drop down choice..

    Hi there,
    I'm wondering, is there a simple way of not displaying the file name field and file type drop down choice that anyone knows of?
    Reason being; my FileChooser is embedded in an application window and does not pop up as a dialog - the users are only acessing one file type, but it could be in any folder on their machine.
    many thanks,
    Fergus.

  • Image Size and File Type

    For image files we should be able to see the size of the image in inches in the details section.
    Also for any file, we should be able to quickly see the exact file type (Illustrator CS document or Illustrator CS2 document), not just "Illustrator document" which is absolutely useless.

    Stan,
    You can see the file type by hovering over the file in Library view and it will show the file name followed by the extension like jpg, nef or tiff.
    Alternatively in library mode go to grid view it will pixel size of the files as well as the name of the file withthe format.
    If you are not able to see that go to View>View Option.
    Check the option show header with label
    Hope thatt helps.

  • Save image as problem in file type in the dialogue box it is blank

    Hi,
    when I right click on an image to save image as from the firefox browser, the dialogue box opens with the file name written but file type is blank and when i click on it it show one option all files. It was showing before many choices like (JPEG, PNG, GIF, etc...). I guess this happened after I did a system restore to my desktop to its factory settings. So i can't choose which type to save the image in. I checked all the previous articles regarding this issue and did some solutions like clearing the Temporary Internet Files all didn't work out.
    System Information:
    windows 7 (64-Bit),
    Firefox 15.0.
    Desktop: XPS 8300.
    Any kind of help is really appreciated.

  • Incompatibility issue with imported images losing keywords and other metada

    I am reposting this with a more descriptive title in hopes that the powers that be will look into this. This really nice piece of software is currently doubling the time in my workflow by having to re-input keywords, etc. after importing.

    I am getting the opposite result. I have lost a lot of my keywords and various other data input in Bridge. Is there a setting I'm missing? I also put in Country name, city, state, contact, etc. in my Brdige metadata, but this is not importing with the RAW files. I am referencing images if that matters, although it shouldn't.

    I also used Bridge/ACR to rate and add keywords to RAWS (Canon) and also used Adobe DNG converter to make DNG files from these.
    No ratings or keywords have imported for any RAWs and DNGs. And, for some DNG files (which I can see in Bridge and iViewMedia), they cannot be displayed in Aperture. It's very strange since I've used the same workflow to create the DNG files over the past year. Some can be imported/viewed, some cannot be viewed. All originally from the same camera/RAW file. I've read in this forum that Aperture cannot read things like keywords from sidecar files.
    I am hopeful that Apple will make DNG sidecar file import a big priority.

    I have been testing Lightroom since beta 2, but after reading The DAM Book, I decided to hold off committing to LR since it was not clear that it would fit into the workflow recommended in the book.
    I had processed some of my recent photos, adding ratings and keywords (and doing some editing - but I knew that was not necessarily permanent due to LR's incompatibility with PS/Bridge when it came to metadata).
    I had briefly looked at Aperture a while back, but was turned off by the price (then $500) and the fact that it couldn't reference the original files. When the 1.5 demo came out with its improvements, I tried it and loved it! After much thought about the workflow I had developed, I decided that I could alter it so that Aperture would fit in - in fact it would be my main app (giving up Bridge/ACR/iViewMedia Pro).
    As per The DAM Book, I had begun converting my Canon RAWs to DNG (fortunately kept most of my RAWs). The first thing I discovered in the demo (I have since purchased the app, 1.5.1) was the fact that none of my ratings and keywords came through. Also, I used the color labels in Bridge to help during the evaluation phase, those didn't come through either, but I expected that. As I also noted in the previous post, some of my DNGs can't be viewed in Aperture even though they can be viewed in Bridge and iViewMedia.
    Fortunately, I had not "processed" all that many photos in my collection, so I can easily start again with the ratings and keywords. BUT there will be many photographers who have, and if Aperture hopes to tempt them away from LR or the other workflows, the Apple team should seriously consider providing support for Adobe's keywords/ratings found in sidecars and perhaps in DNGs. Also, good support of DNGs might be another thing to look at, as many users have been converting from RAW as I have.
    Just my three cents (inflation).

  • RemoteApp 2012 and File Type Associations

    Hi, All :),
    the scenario is like this -  2 x Server 2012: one as the RD Connection Broker and RD Web Access and one as the RD Session Host (clients are Windows 7). ALMOST everything works: there is one collection, several applications, all successfully thrown into
    the RemoteApp and Desktop Collections by GPO (Powershell script - http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/ScriptCenter/313a95b3-a698-4bb0-9ed6-d89a47eacc72/).
    But one thing doesn't work - file type associations. Well, I want the client without, for example, Office installed to open the RemoteApp application (Excel) by clicking on the XLSX file. When looking at the application properties -> File Type Associations
    -> Current Associations column, I see the name of the collection, which includes Excel ... but it does not work. After updating the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections on the client, the RDP file with Excel noticed a new line:
    remoteapplicationfileextensions: s:. csv,. xls,. xlsx,. xltx
    How do I make it work? I know that in RemoteApp on Server 2008R2 you could export the MSI file that took care of File Type Associations, but what to do in case of Server 2012?

    Unfortunately, the feature to install file type associations for RemoteApp programs in your GPO-pushed RemoteApp and Desktop Collection is only supported on Windows 8 clients. Several improvement were made over the old MSI-based file type associations, and
    those improvements rely upon changes in the Windows 8 OS.
    Ultimately file type associations are controlled with registry keys, all of which are documented on MSDN. RemoteApp programs are pretty much the same as any other local program, except the file type is associated with mstsc.exe with some special parameters.
    Although the way we register those file type associations in Windows 8 won't work for you, the way the old MSIs used to register them would. You could in theory register the RemoteApp file type associations yourself in the same way that one of the old MSIs
    would have done (you could use some sort of GPO-pushed script on the clients).
    The easiest way to do this would be to track down one of those old MSIs, install it, and do a before-and-after view of the registry to see what changes it makes.
    Hope that helps,

  • Files always download as "attachment.ashx" instead of the file name and file type that they actually are.

    Since I have installed the new version of Firefox (version 8.0), every single file I download is downloaded as "attachment.ashx" and won't open. I have to change the name as well as the file type in order to open the document.
    This happens regardless of if I'm downloading from email, from a website, etc.. All of the files I have downloaded also have already been named and had file types appended, but Firefox is changing them every single time. I have never had this problem before using the same sites and downloads.

    Please hurry up with a solution! This is causing havoc, as I cannot open any attachments at all! It defaults to Adobe Photoshop, and then I get an error message that it is the wrong type of file. These are all Word docs! I can't get my work done! Is there some kind of work around that I can use in the meantime to open these things?

  • Imported images upside down and blurred Lightroom 1.4

    Hiya everyone. First post on here so I hope I am putting this in the right place but hope you can help me. I have had a trawl through the archives but havent seen a fix for this problem.
    When I try to import images direct from my camera (Canon EOS 30D)into Lightroom, they have started to be displayed on the IMPORT page upside down and very poor quality. If I go ahead with the import they are displayed in LR proper in the correct orientation and clear quality.
    I have done a system restore back to a few days ago when it was working ok, and have tried uninstall and then reinstall. I have also taken my camera back to its default settings in case that is the cause, but nothing has worked.
    I am using the following -
    Lightroom 1.4
    Dell Studio 1535 laptop
    Windows Vista
    Intel Core Duo @2GHz
    4GB Ram
    Hope you can help as I am wary of putting all my photos on LR now in case it fails - I am using Picasa as a storage instead.
    Thanks everyone

    Are you going straight from the camera? Take my advice - don't. Use a card reader instead.

  • Best file for importing images from Illustrator and Photoshop for small file sizes

    Hello Adode consults!
    I'm in the process of preparing an inDesign file for a school project -- I've already had a few harrowing experiences sending large files to the printer that are too large to process (and a very grumpy computer, etc). The end result will be a poster around 36 inches by 4 or 5 feet.
    I'm wondering if there are any best practices for making sure that the files imported into InDesign are a manageable size to begin with. Should I, for instance, be saving each file as a jpeg before placing in Indesign?
    Thanks!
    -Katherine

    No, you should not save every file as JPG before placing it in INDesign. JPG is only usefull for raster images (like photos) without any transparency in high quality.
    When you place images use:
    For raster images from Photoshop psd (rgb with color profile)
    For raster images from Photoshop with form layers, texts or any vector element use PDF (or PDP) with layers.
    For vector graphics from Illustrator use AI files or PDF.
    For layouts from other InDesign projects use either the INDD itsself or export a PDF/X4.
    But to the printer deliver a PDF according to their standards. E.g. when they need CMYK files export as PDF/X1a with the required output color space and the resolution they want. Produce the pdf via Export (Print).
    Don't deliver open INDD. File size should for printing projects not be an issue.
