Importing images created in PS to ID

Help! I'm an InDesign beginner and I just cant figure this one out.
I created a logo in PS and imported it to ID. The logo was saved in PSD format at 300ppi. It seemed fine while working on ID. However when I exported the PDF file, the logo came out very pixelated.
I tried other formats (TIF, JPEG, PNG) and different resolutions and sizes. Nothing worked. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Is there a secret to importing images from Photoshop?
Thanks!

Is the logo really vector objects? Save as Photoshop PDF to keep them from being rasterized in ID (or rebuild in Illustrator, which is a vector program). If the logo is raster by nature, have you scaled it in ID? What is the Effective PPI value when you select it and look inthe Info panel? Waht settings did you use to export the PDF?

  • Importing images created in Fireworks into Indesign

    Hello,
I'm working on a Mac platform and I have over 60 images created in Fireworks which will be placed into Indesign CS4. Since I have never worked in Fireworks, this project seemed somewhat daunting.  Do I need to save the images in either tiff, eps or some other format (like Photoshop) in order for the images to be imported. In addition, these images involve text editing. How well does Fireworks handle text.
Understanding that Fireworks is a web-friendly tool, how will it affect the image quality when the end result of this project will be printed.
    Thanks,
    Suta

Unless you began the Fireworks projects using 300 dpi at the appropriate print dimensions, you're going to have noticeable quality loss.
If the Fireworks files are completely vector, you should be able to resample in Fireworks to the appropriate resolution with any trouble. You won't have that kind of luck if you were working with bitmap images, though.
Bear in mind that FW only work sin the RGB color space, so you may see some color shifting once the files are brought into a CYMK color space. The format you export or save should be a lossless format - TIFF would be my recommendation.
Can yo be more specific about your questions about text?

  • How do I import images created in earlier versions of Aperture and saved to DVD as an Aperture library into Aperture 3.2.1?

When I insert the DVD into my MacPro the disk appears as though it is blank, with the little 'burn' icon in the top right
When I insert the DVD into my macbook it shows the full Aperture library structure and when I allow file sharing between the machines the MacPro can also recognises the files
I suspect I am making a basic error somewhere as the images are clearly all there.  This doesnt just occur for one DVD, I have dozens that are all perfroming in the same way when I try to import files created in an earlier version of Aperture back into the version I am now using, 3.2.1
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    Reiss.

To get the old library into Aperture it will need to be upgrade. To do this you will need to copy the library off the DVD onto our HD and then open Aperture on this library. Aperture should then upgrade the library to the latest version.

  • Iphoto unable to import images from card or from desktop

A recent update to the operating system for my imac with Maverick has rendered my iphoto incapable of importing images, creates a mirror shift of the frontpage as it is opened up and requires a long time for iphoto to open. When I try to import a photo from the desktop or from a card the program spins into dysfunction and I am forced to force quit. Program functionality seems to be impaired as I look for images, select, etc. Permissions verified and fixed in Utility disk. Restart computer several times.....I would be grateful for assistance. Kind regards to the community.....HP

Well that suggests the issue is with the main Library. So
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Load/import images into layers to create animated gif in PE4

I'm trying to make an animated gif using Photoshop Elements 4.0.
I have numerous images (photos) that I need to insert into separate frames of one image.
(photo1, photo2 ..... photo10 - all combined in layers to create the frames of the animated gif)
I can open each photo separately, copy it, go the the animated gif image, create a new layer, and paste the image into the layer to create a frame in the animated gif.  This is very time consuming.
Does Elements 4.0 allow for just opening/importing the separate images (photos) into the layers (frames) of the gif direclty?  I remember having software that came with Macromedia Dreamweaver 4.0 in 2000 that made this simple and straight forward.

I am experiencing Mavericks failing to copy subdirectories from usb sticks, I am backing up game saves from a console. Both sticks I use are fine, same permissions of course since the console wrote the files. Sometimes it copies, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be related to the mounting process.

  • How to import images without creating duplicates of images aready imported?

i am trying to find a way to import pictures into aperture without duplicating pictures already in the library. it will be great that aperture recognize that a picture is already in the library and ask if we want to duplicate or replace the picture with the new import. with my current system setting, i can import the same pictures over and over in the same project, and i get several duplicates with the same file name.
how can i set up aperture so it recognizes that a pictures (according to its file name) is already in the library. thanks for your help.

I never figured this out either and it bugged me. You basically have to import the iPhotos for instance the first time and if still uploading into iPhoto then have to import folders. Go to File>Import>Images/or Folders as Projects(what I usually do) and then track down the right folder and click Import. Make sure you have the right place clicked you want them on the Projects Panel or you may import them into the middle of another Project (done that more than once). Sorry I don't have answer but at least a fix till someone knows more.

  • How to import images in iPhoto?

I use iPhoto importing images from this same computer and from iPhone with iCloud. A problem I've always suffered also before buying iPhone was that I can't import images in iPhoto.
Well, I can drag an image from, for example, the desktop, but if I delete that file on the desktop I won't be able to open that image in iPhoto, even if I've imported it. This is because of I don't know a way to "consolidate the library" in iPhoto (while I usually do it in iTunes), so iPhoto just manages my images, but it doesn't really import them.
When, in iPhoto, I import a photo shooted with iPhone and showed in Photo Stream, that photo is really copied in the library, so in the computer, and I can delete the photo source, in fact if I delete that photo from Photo Stream that photo will remain however in iPhoto, and if I click on the high menu bar (FIle, Show Original ), a Finder window of the folder in which there is the copied photo will be opened. That finder is "hidden" in the stuff of the iPhoto Library (in Images folder of Mac), but it's not simply to go and find any photo in this way (folders and subfolders named with long numbers).
So can I choose what way to use? The good of that second method is that iPhoto manage directly and really its photos because it "has" them, but the bad is the almost impossible way to find photos in that organization library (waster than iTunes media folder, that is clear). The good of the first method is that no automatic copies will be created because iPhoto just manage photos which remain in my folders, but the bad is that iPhoto doesn't manage them direclty, but depending on my folders and my files wherever and however they are, and I can't edit them because I would change the file that is used in iPhoto with an other different version.
I think this is an annoying problem because there is a file with photos (i.e. the iPhoto Library) that contains copies of photos occuping memory while I don't know this is happening, because that copy is not announced, and simultaneously I have those photos of iPhoto free to be changed and removed with the risk of disappearing from the photos of the program.

I can drag an image from, for example, the desktop, but if I delete that file on the desktop I won't be able to open that image in iPhoto, even if I've imported it
That's an indication that you may have your library set up as a referenced library:
Check the Advanced preferences in iPhoto to see if that checkbox is selected or not.  If it isn't checkec, check it and try importing agan.
To make sure all Photo Stream photos are automatically imported into your library set up iPhoto's PS preferences like this:

  • Importing images with Lightroom 2  & Camera RAW 4.5

The following query has been raised with Adobe Technical Support (5 days ago and I am still waiting for a response/reply. They claim to reply within 24 hours but they have not on this occasion......they seem to be ignoring me
Perhaps a fellow user can help to identify or resolve the problem.
    Operating System:
Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 3)
    Software:
Adobe Design Premium CS3 (10.0.1); Photoshop Lightroom 1.4 (which was working fine) and Lightroom 2 (on trial and not working particularly well)
I am using a trial download of Photoshop Lightroom 2 (with Camera RAW 4.5 in Photoshop CS3).
I am having a few problems with editing Lightroom 2 images in Photoshop CS3 but I understand that Adobe is currently investigating a solution to this problem.
I have also noticed another potential problem since I have started to import images from a computer drive to Lightroom 2 and converting the Manufacturers RAW files to DNG (with the option to leave the files at their current location/drive).
My RAW and JPEG files open ok in Camera RAW (v 4.5) for basic editing and subsequently to Photoshop for more detailed work. The problem is that all my images are now opening as Smart Objects by default in Photoshop CS3, as opposed to opening as a Background layer". (I have not knowingly opted to use the Open as Smart Object option.
I am not entirely sure how this came about but I have also lost the capacity to edit images with empty Levels adjustment layers or percentage (%) grey fill option).
I am able to highlight the respective layer and create the empty Levels adjustment layer, change the blend mode to either Multiply or Screen, fill the Layer Mask with Black (Alt & backspace), change the opacity level as desired, select the brush tool and change the foreground colour to white to enable the applicable Dodge or Burn processes.
Unfortunately, it does not function irrespective of the preferred opacity level. The Dodge or Burn feature is static with no effect on the image.
I cannot recall any settings to open all files as Smart Objects in Photoshop CS3 but would welcome some help in identifying such a setting if it exists. Alternatively, I would welcome any other suggested methods of correcting the above difficulties.
The same difficulties are evident when I try to use the Dodge or Burn features via the Edit and Fill option with a percentage of Grey and the Overlay Blend Mode.
The "Common Denominator" of the above difficulties appear to be Lightroom 2 and Camera RAW 4.5 (individually and or collectively) and now I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Are any other users experiencing similar issues or have any suggestions about how I might correct or resolve these problems? ......
I am not afraid of hearing or accepting that the "Dummy Factor" has played some part or how I may release myself from the said "Dummy Factor".....any help is welcome help.
Adobe Technical Support seems to be ignoring me......I wonder why?
    Regards
    Bob Wallace

Essentially you are wrapping the raw image data into a special type of layer, a "smart object". You can then revisit and fine tune the Camera Raw conversion as often as you want and take advantage of working directly on the raw data in its pre-Photoshop purity. You can also apply to this smart object layer a number of Photoshop adjustments and filters - and again redo and fine tune them as often as you wish.
You'll find them explained in a number of recent books. I know Scott Kelby is keen on them, there are examples on Russell Brown's site, and my own book last year on B&W strongly advocated their use.
    Have a play.

  • Is there a way to import images that have been edited and assign them to the original?

I am transitioning to mac and aperture. Is there a way to import images that have been edited and assign them to the original? I have 10,000 originals and about 2,000 edited images. The originals are named img_XXXX and anything modified img_XXXX_modified. I would like to be able to import the originals and then import the edited versions and assign them to the original masters. Instead of starting from here and going forward with 12,000 masters, some of which are actual originals and others not. Thanks for the help.

Ah, the vestiges of a destructive workflow! Once you "get" Aperture, (specifically Masters and Versions) you are going to love it, as all of this work goes away - the relationship that you seek to retain is automatic in Aperture; it is simply done differently.
The short answer to your question is EVERY image file that is Imported into Aperture will create a new Master and one Version. Assuming that your images are PSD/TIFF/JPEG that you created in something like Photoshop, then each one that your import will be a new Master. You have many options:
-- Stick the originals in one Project(s) and the edited versions in another Project(s).
-- Stick them all in the same Project(s) and "Stack" them.
But here is the real question: Why are you doing all of this work and what are you trying to accomplish? Seems you are trying to preserve old things that don't need preserving in a non-destructive workflow.
So, what is most valuable to you?
-- The original, out of camera files? (That is, the fear/need to revert.)
-- The edited versions? (That is the hours of work that it took you to get there.)
If the former, import the originals and ignore the edited versions. (Either simply leave them out on disk or import them into their own Projects which you ignore.) Use Aperture to recreate the work you had done previously. This will always give you the ability to revert to the original Master and create as many Versions as you want. This is the best idea if your edits are relatively simple crops and exposure adjustments,
If the latter, then import the edited versions and do as above with the originals. This makes more sense if your work uses lots of layers and, perhaps lots of clone tool type corrections.
Of course, you can do a bit of both.
Others may have better suggestions, but you will find it easy to answer your own question when you understand an image based, as opposed to a file based, non-destructive workflow.
    Good luck!

  • Problem importing images into RoboHelp 10 from FM 11

I am using Adobe TCS4, on Win XP SP3, to import or link structured FrameMaker 11 books and documents into RoboHelp 10. Our default graphics types are generally eps and tiff images, in anchored frames and imported by reference into FrameMaker, and FrameMaker equations. When I import a FM document into RoboHelp, things appear reasonably correct, equations are converted to jpegs, but the other images typically do not appear. Instead, blank images are created in the appropriate size, and named <docname>00001.jpg, etc, where <docname> is the original FrameMaker document name.
During import, the Images portion of the FrameMaker conversion settings list "Use Distiller to Generate Image". If this box is checked, RoboHelp nearly always crashes when there are non-equation images in the file. If that setting is unchecked, the import generally completes, but the images, except for equations, are not imported. Remarkably, occasionally one or a few of the correct images doappear in the RoboHelp html; in these cases, it is usually one or more tiff images that have somehow been successfully converted to jpeg; but the majority of images are not converted.
I have tried a few other things, without success. For example, I have replaced all the images in the Framemaker document with jpeg images, then imported into RoboHelp, but the results are the same, with empty renamed images created, and original images not imported. I have also tried reducing the image sizes in the Framemaker to the exact size size required in the output; in other words, so images appear at 100% size in Framemaker. This approach also has not been successful. I have also tried importing to another format in RoboHelp, such as png, with no success.
I have had some occasional success, for example rare occasions when one or two images appear in the RoboHelp html, and a single case in which nearly all of the graphics imported correctly. That FM document is somewhat different from the others because nearly all of the referenced images in FrameMaker were PDF. The successfully imported PDFs were imported into RH as jpegs of the same name. The only files that failed to import were a few eps files which were imported as blank images named aqccording to the <docname>0001.jpg scheme.
Aside from converting all of my images to PDF, and modifying documents accordingly, I have run out of things to try. So, I was hoping to get some advise:
    1) Is there another approach I can try?
    2) Should I uninstall and reinstall TCS4?
    3) Is there an import log that could tell me the mapping of FrameMaker image name to RoboHelp image name, for example: fm0201.tif > <docname>00001.jpg? At least then I could use that list to manually import the appropriate jpgs into Robohelp.
    4) Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
    5) What is it with the constant crashes when "Use Distiller to Generate Image" is checked. In these cases, Distiller keeps chugging away, producing images, until RoboHelp crashes.
Thanks very much, I appreciate any suggestions.
    Chris McCauley

I remember reading that document on images, parts 1 and 2, I think, but did not find any solution to this issue there. I have seen your posts on the path length, and have tried to reduce them as much as possible by moving files close to the root directory. I continue to have issues with cross-references, but I have not spent much time yet in fully diagnosing that problem. I'm experienced with Framemaker for many years, and I'm beginning to feell familiar with many parts of RoboHelp, so I thoiught I'd try to knock these issues one at a time, in either order, actually. thanks for your suggestion.

  • Placing images created in Photoshop of Fireworks removes their transparency - how to resolve?

I am designing a logo in Illustrator and have been using Photoshop and Fireworks to edit some photographs which form part of the logo.  These photographs are basically of musical instruments and two lions and I've used the rubber tool in Photoshop/Fireworks to cut out the shape of the instrument/lion and leave a transparent background.  I've then done a colour fill on the photograph so that it is a single solid colour shape.  I save this file, either as a PSD or PNG, and then place it in Illustrator using File > Place.
However, when I cut and paste the logo from Illustrator into InDesign any images that I've been working on in Photoshop / Fireworks have suddenly lost the transparent background they had and instead are displayed as the single solid colour shape but surrounded by whitespace.
How do I resolve this?  Should I be saving it a particular way in Illustrator in order to make all whitespace in the Illustration transparent?  Or is File > Place the wrong way to import graphic elements?
Also, is there a way to colour fill the imported images?  At present I  have to jump back out to Photoshop to change the colour and then AI picks up on the save and updates the graphic - it would be nice if I could do that all within Illustrator.
    Appreciate the advice.  Thank you.
    NJ

    Sorry, completely new to Illustrator.
Let's start from the beginning...the background (page) of Illustrator is white.  I can't seem to get it to be transparent so I'm assuming that white is the default and you should just know that it's transparent?
Anyway, I created a logo against this white backdrop.  I then wanted some solid colour graphic elements (musical instruments and a coupe of lions) as part of the logo so I opened up some photographs I had of musical instruments in Photoshop, used the eraser tool to remove all but the instrument then did a colour fill on the remaining image so that I had a single colour fill instrument shape.  I saved as .PSD.
In Illustrator I did a File > Place to insert the above graphics into my Illustrator logo design.
    1) Is it possible to do this colour fill in Illustrator because at the moment any time I want to change the colour of the instrument of lion graphics I'm having to go into Photoshop, change the colour there, save, and then wait for Illustrator to update.
    2) Rather than my "dumb" (how rude!) copy and paste procedure what is the best way to get the completed logo into InDesign?  File > Place and select the Illustrator file?
    Thank you Mylenium.

  • Unable to import images to iMovie, or copy and paste images.

As the title states, I am unable to import images from either iPhoto, the iMovie photo selector, or finder. Furthermore I cannot copy the rest of my timelapse from a second project into the origional, it just pastes one image in a different size and quality many times over. I was able to make a time lapse not more than five days ago before the update, so what gives? I am very frustrated. Everything is slow, it eats up all of my ram, and will freeze when I attempt to import images. I have all the updates, new retina pro, reinstalled iMovie; all the basic steps.. These are all images from a GoPro camera, and the first timelapse used all of the same files, I know it isn't a .jpeg problem or anything like that. So far it seems like a complete software failure and it is beyond my hands now but I would greatly appreciate some input.
    Thanks.
    Jake.

So if you select a protion of a clip, it gets outlined in yellow, and then when you mouse over it the cursor should be a little hand icon.
If you're not seeing that, you've got a problem.
Do you have another user account on your computer so you can try to see if you have the same issues? Maybe even create a new one for testing purposes.
Are you near an Apple Store you could drop by?
I'm not sure what else to suggest.

  • Import image in Map Builder

When using the import image tool of Map Builder to create a GeoRaster theme, you may get a popup window with an error message saying that the import was not successful. The application console should contain the following lines.

    Creating raster data table...
    Importing File...

The georaster object is not loaded correctly!!
This error happens because of a missing JAI initialization file on mapbuilder.jar file. To solve this problem you need to add the initialization file to mapbuilder.jar.
    1) locate file jai_core.jar on your Oracle installation (usually located at ordim/lib directory).
    2) extract file javax.media.jai.registryFile.jai (extract with full path meta-inf\).
    2) go to directory where mapbuilder.jar is and double click it to open (usually opens with WinZip).
    3) drag folder meta-inf that contains the JAI initialization file to the opened mapbuilder.jar. Check if you have the initialization file with path meta-inf\ inside mapbuilder.jar.
    4) Close mapbuilder.jar.
    5) Start Map Builder and test the import.
