Importing InDesign IDML results in blank chapter

I'm trying to import content into iBooks Author from InDesign. Apple's documentation says to export the InDesign document as an IDML file, then in iBooks Author go to Insert > Insert Chapter From... > InDesign File(IDML). However, when I try this, the imported chapter is blank, containing none of the content from InDesign, only a generic chapter heading. I think I'm following the instructions. I'm using the latest versions of both programs—InDesign CC 2014 and iBooks Author 2.2 running on Yosemite. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I played with it some more, it turns out that this only happens in portrait view. It shows up with content in landscape, but blank in portrait. My InDesign document is portrait, with the dimensions of an iPad screen. Any idea how to make it import in portrait mode?

  • Downsaving/exporting to IDML results in blank document

    HI all
I am having a problem where I have a perfectly good .indd file (CS6) which I am downsaving for my client to .idml.
Whether I downsave or export to the .idml file, when I open the file it is a single blank page--all the content is gone and it's not even the same size, it's just a standard letter size blank document. I tested with another file, and it saved normally to .idml, so there is something wrong with this file, but I haven't the slightest clue what it could be.
Has anyone had this problem before or can suggest a solution?
    Many thanks for any help,
    Debbie Berne

    odd...
for a simple document you could move the pages to a new document (via the Pages pallet) and export idml from that.

  • Import InDesign files into RoboHelp HTML

    Hello,
My company is moving toward online help. We currently use InDesign to author our manuals and then export them to pdf for publication. I've been on the phone with Adobe trying to see if there's a way to easily import InDesign into RoboHelp. We're on an older version of RoboHelp, so I'm told this is possible, but I can't get any help until we buy RoboHelp9. I know that we can import our pdfs into RoboHelp--I'm just wondering if there's a way to import InDesign files directly into RoboHelp. Has anyone tried to do this? Anyone have any suggestions? It seems these two programs should play nice together, doesn't it?
    Louley

    Hi there
To my knowledge it is not possible to accomplish. I've been using RoboHelp since 1992 and I've never seen it done.
The only way I can fathom it working would be if InDesign could save as an HTML page. Then import the HTML. Or possibly produce a PDF from InDesign, then import that. But even importing the PDF may not give you the results you want.
    Cheers... Rick

I am struggling with getting the imovie I just created to burn onto a DVD.  I have done this before, I'm following the tutorial for imovie '09 and it isn't working after several attempts.  Any suggestions?  When I get to the import phase and insert the blank dvd it runs a few seconds and then spits it out.

My TV digital optical out is hooked up to my stereo digital optical port 2 without any 5.1 problems either, sort of.
My BP530 is hooked up to my stereo digital coax to digital coax but I cannot get any 5.1 sound at all. Not through any of the digital channels on the stereo at all.
The player only comes through as standard stereo through all 4 speakers and I am not sure if it is coming through the base speaker at all.
I have tried every setting on both the TV and the blue ray player to no avail. I have even tried to not use the digital on my blue ray but when the stereo is set to play from my tv optical I still don't get 5.1 sound.
When I do not use the TV optical out but I do use the digital coax out from the DVD player I still cannot play my DVDs in 5.1. I have new HDMI 15gbps HDMI cables and a new digital coaxial cable so I don't think it is a cable thing.
The real question is how do I get to hear my blue ray and DVD discs in 5.1 sound? Will this work if I exchange my blue ray player for a Denon 3D blue ray or other player?

  • PSE6.0 organizer import CR2 files results in 'no preview'

When I import Canon CR2 files from my camera using the PSE Organizer (Windows "import with PSE6") I often get no RAW preview/thumbnails; a thumbnail is created for some of the imported RAW pictures but most of them not. When I have opened the picture (camera raw 5.3 start by double click, and close) in most cases a thumbnail is created and displayed. This shouldn't be necessary, I suppose ????
Does someone know this bug and how to fix it?

So, now I have to buy PSE 7? Isn't there a cheap(er) upgrade possibility? After all, it is a bug in PSE6. PSE7 costs almost as much as a 'new' / first install version, isn't it.
I would love to have the latest version, mostly not for the new features but mainly for bug fixes and/or performance enhancements.

  • Import the test results and doors links back to doors with NI Requirement Gateway

    Hi together,
I will try to explain my problem:
We are using TestStand, DOORS and the NI Requirement Gateway.
We created a test specification in DOORS, TestStand used the DOORS IDs to connect the TestSteps in Teststand with the requirements in DOORS.
TestStand runs the test and creates XML-results, the NIRG is able to import these XML-results back to DOORS and creates a new(!!!) DOORS module, parallel to the said test spec.
This module contains some attributes like the single test steps, the results (pass, fail, whatever, ...) but now I am missing a relationship between the DOORS test specification and these results of the XML file or better, the XML-import in the new DOORS Module.
We want to manage our test results only(!) in DOORS so it should be possible to link(!) automatically the results of the XML to the DOORS TestSpec cause we are able to transfer the DOORS-IDs or other attributes (i.e.. The "un"unique NI ID#") too!
    in ASCII-art:
    DOORS_TestSpec -> NI_TestStand -> NI_Result -> DOORS_Result  <--------- with LINKS to the DOORS_TestSpec!!!!!!!!!
Next Step is the DOORS Analyze Tool but we need the links to follow them and to show us the results.
Would be nice to know if somebody else knows the problem or perhaps someone has an other solution. Thanks for your time!
    Greet

Regarding your statement "We will generate a chunk of XML-Results, so we are not able to link all the requirements by hand", are you concerned about having to update the path to the XML files each time you run the test?  In this case, I would recommend creating a directory to store only the most recent report (the report path can be modified in the TestStand report options), and set the XML report project in Requirements Gateway to point to this directory.  In your TestStand sequence, you could call code which moves the previous report file into a backup location so that only the newest file is in the specified directory.  THis would prevent you from needing to modify the Requirements Gateway project to access the latest report; reanalyzing would reload the project with the new file.  The traceability information will therefore always be up to date, and you can see that the DOORS requirements are being covered by the test results.
I agree that there is not really a good solution for importing the XML reports into DOORS, but I think you can acheive the result you are looking for using the report files directly.

  • Is/Will FC be able to import Indesign files?

About to download the trial and noticed that Indesign wasnt mentioned. Can you import indeisgn files (other than making a pdf), if not are the plans to add that to the final version?

Flash Catalyst 1.0 doesn't directly import InDesign files, but you can make this work using some other Adobe tools.
    1. In InDesign export your file as PDF
    2. Open the PDF file in Illustrator and save as AI
    3. Import the AI file into Catalyst
Illustrator can also save to "fxg" which Catalyst can handle natively. I would expect other Adobe tools to handle the fxg format over time which will make it easier to bring any artwork into Catalyst.

  • Saved over a very important indesign file!!

saved over a very important indesign file that has synced to the creative cloud is there any way i can revert back to a previous version on my cloud?

You should be able to use the Restore functionality to revert back.
In a web browser go to the Files page at https://creative.adobe.com/files.
Find the file and go to it's page by clicking on it.
In the Activity list to the right of the image you should see earlier versions listed.
Select the version you want and click the Restore link.
Confirm the restore by clicking the blue Restore button in the dialog that pops up.

All the other pix in the library are fine.  I'd really appreciate a solution.

I tried replying by e-mail and it hasn't come through, so I'll reply using the web forums, and there may eventually be two replies with similar suggestions...
The second part of your issue got truncated, so you might want to include what else you said in a reply.
Regarding the gray thumbnails, this is usually a bad display profile, but can also be a corrupted previews cache.
dj_paige already posted a link to a page about changing the monitor profile to sRGB, although perhaps you’ve done that.
The other thing that could be wrong is your previews cache may be corrupted.  The way to fix that is to delete the previews cache and let LR start a new one.  If you don’t know where your catalog is, look in the LR Preferences / Catalog Settings and the path is indicated on one of the panels.
Using Explorer or Finder, go to the folder that has your catalog in it and your previews cache will be a folder called:
         catalogname Previews.lrdata
You should exit LR and then rename that folder to have a different name (using Explorer/Finder) and then restart LR.  You could delete it, too, but if renaming doesn't fix the problem then you can just rename it back and have your old previews, again.
It is possible that there is some other problem that would be more obvious if we could read the rest of your message that was truncated.

  • Mountain Lion install results in blank gray screen.

I recently downloaded and installed Mountain Lion on my wife's late-2007 iMac.  Unfortunately, each time, after the installer finishes and reboots, the computer sticks at a blank gray screen where normally the Apple logo would appear while things boot in the background.  I have tried restoring from Time Capsule and re-downloading then reinstalling, but it produces the same result.
With the gray screen problem present, I've tried a Safe Boot, holding down Option to select a disk to boot from (nothing comes up when I do this, just the mouse cursor), and resetting the PRAM/NVRAM.  I haven't really been able to find anyone else having this particular issue. The hard drive in the iMac is a little over a year old as we had to replace the old one.  And from what my wife read, the late-2007 iMacs are Mountain Lion compatible.

saw this in another thread about a macbook pro slowing up after OSX Mountain Lion install:
the  mac owner had mentioned his mac going very slow, and was told it could take several days for the new OSX to sort things out. Perhaps this explains my issue and perhaps yours.
"Yes this can be the case, even slow shutdowns and startups. But Hardisk space can also be a factor. Anything below the 10Gig mark of space left can cause extreme slowdowns."

  • Server errors result in blank pages with security enabled

I have been working to security-enable my ADF 11 application using JDeveloper 11.1.1.0.0. Users, roles and grants all appear to be working as expected. However, I have discovered that server errors no longer appear once I put security in place.
For example, take a simple JSPX page with one button, and attach an actionListener to the button. In the actionListener, throw an exception. When no ADF security is in place, this results in a 500 server error page, and the exception stack trace (or part of it) is written to the Weblogic console inside JDeveloper. Once ADF security is in place, the behavior changes. The result is a blank page (absolutely no content). Even worse, the exception stack trace is no longer written to the Weblogic console.
I have tried to work around this by setting an <error-page> in web.xml, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I do know that my <error-page> configuration works in general, because I have a "not authorized" error page set up to catch the ADF AuthorizationException, and that is displayed properly. I have also seen the error page invoked for errors that happen earlier in the rendering process (for instance, if I forget to set a default page in my bounded task flow).
I don't have any idea where to start on this. Google hasn't been much help, possibly I don't know what I'm looking for.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    KEN

We have found a solution to this problem, which we are going to go with until something better pops up.
In the main unbounded task flow (adfc-config), we added a method call marked as the error-handler. In the method call, we log the exception, something like this:
        public void handleException() {
            Exception e = ControllerContextImpl.getInstance().getCurrentViewPort().getExceptionData();
            e.printStackTrace(System.err);
}Then, the method call forwards to a JSP to display the error:
<af:inputText label="Error" value="#{controllerContext.currentViewPort.exceptionData.message}"/>That gets us the equivalent of the old behavior.
I still find it kind of strange that errors aren't displayed once security is enabled, but at least there is a workaround.

  • DSC: Importing Shared Variables results in error -1950679010

This post is more of an "FYI" rather than a question.  I am using LV DSC 8.2.
ASIDE:  I ran into this problem because I was trying to solve a related problem with Deploy Library.vi (I had dependant libraries that deployed manually, but not programmatically).  Eventually, I found the answer in http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/8EF71E1DDDC36C908625716900594B50 (not a very satisfactory answer however, IMHO).
During my solution search, another hint was provided with http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=177268&requireLogin=False which hints that using a "Network" defined SV, as opposed to a "Project" defined SV, could help.  Then I discovered the difference between NetworkrojectPath and Network:URL in the SV property definition.  Then I realized that NetworkrojectBinding is exposed in the Import fields (using the Multiple Variable Editor to do the importing of course), and this gave me the idea of being able to define a Network SV using the Import function.
Unfortunately, it does not work.  In the csv file I set NetworkrojectBinding to FALSE, Network:UseBinding to TRUE and provide a valid Network SV path, but this results in error -1950679010: "Shared variable is bound but path or URL is not specified", which occurs when trying to save the LVLIB.  It would be nice to know why this doesn't work, as I think it should.  I think it is a problem with the SV import mechanism.

Yes, you can do this programatically.  I've attached a small chunk of example code (LV 8.5) that creates just 1 variable, as well as an image of it in case you are using an earlier version of LV.  If you want to create multiple variables for the same library just put the "AddSharedVariableToLibrary" in a loop, of course.

  • Can't send results to BLANK email address in SWF

We have many different customers that want the quiz results
sent to them. If I leave the email address blank on the Quiz
Preferences window, Outlook automatically opens and email with a
blank TO: field and the results in the body, and the user types the
email address of the recipient before sending results. This works
great when published as an .EXE.
However, when I publish as an .SWF and place in a browser, I
press the Send E-mail button and get the following message:
This form is being submitted using e-mail.
Submitting this form will reveal your e-mail address to the
recipient, and will send the form data without encrypting it for
    privacy.
You may continue or cancel this submission.
    ---OK--- --Cancel--
I select OK and nothing happens.
I just wanted the system to open Outlook like it did when ran
    as an EXE.
    Any ideas?

Assuming your problem lies in HTM/SWF published files, you
can hack the sendMail() function on/around line 28 of the
email_body.htm or email_attachment.htm template files (depending on
which reporting method you select in the Quiz Properties) to prompt
the user for the correct username.
However, the built-in Prompt() method may not work in IE7 and
later, per the following note on the
    MSDN
    website:
In Windows Internet Explorer 7 and later the Prompt() method is
blocked by the information bar in the Internet zone. This helps
prevent malicious sites from initiating spoofing attacks.
If that turns out to be a show-stopper, you'd have to build
your own solution for gathering the e-mail address using a
    combination of DHTML and Javascript.
Assuming you're willing to give it a try, the template files
    can be found in:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 3\Templates\Publish
Example code using the Prompt() method is shown below:

I didn't use any spot colors.  All there is are line and arc segments.  When saving the PDF I tried all different combinations of parameters.  I did AI because that's what the first shop we talked to wanted.  I'd hate to have to start all over again...
Anyway, I think there must be some difference between segments, since from the same AI file some of them are OK in the PDF and some aren't.  Can you think of anything it could be in that arena?
