Importing iPhone configuration profiles in Profile Manager

Does anyone know how to import iPhone configuration profiles into the Profile Manager on Lion?
We have a few profiles I'd rather not re-create.
Thanks

Thank you both. My problem was that I was looking in the wrong place for the profiles.ini file. I'm not sure now where it was I was looking, but I found it quickly with the links cor-el gave. I didn't want to use command line option (though it is a good suggestion) because that would increase the clutter from icons and I was attempting to reduce clutter.
Again thank you both for the quick response.

  • Wi-Fi settings in iPhone configuration profile not working

    Hi there,
if I apply the exact same iPhone configuration profile by using a USB cable and the iCU it works just fine and the Wi-Fi is starts to work immediately. If I upload the profile to the web and install it via a webpage everything works except the Wi-Fi. Both times it is the exact same profile. Any suggestions? Anyone with the same problem?
    iPhone 4 / iOS 4.1 / iCU 3.1.0.256

Has anybody a better idea how I could avoid the problem? Maybe there is a better way of profile distribution? How are you guys distributing your profiles (no MDM solutions)? I don't know if distribution via email attachment is a good idea cause sometime email isn't already setup so the better way is to go via the browser and a webpage or the profile is going to change the email settings.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions ... Thanks a lot!
Maybe anybody knows a cheap and good MDM solution. We just have 7 iPhones in our company syncing with Exchange.

  • How to configure profile manager in Maverics when DNS is externally managed?

Are there any guides to configuring Profile Manager as a MDM?
    Here is my story.
Recently installed  Mac mini at a school where the DNS is externally managed by the Education departments IT group.  Upgraded to Maverics and installed Server app.  Configured profile manager to the point where we could generate a trust profile and enrolment profile.  Doesn't work because there is no DNS entry for Mac mini server.   Create entry but need to change host name and computer name and local machine name to match entry.  Suddenly profile manager not working at all.  Delete server app and it's configuration file in ~/Library/.  Reinstall.  Now Profile manager won't even activate.  Speak to Apple on phone, run various commands to reinitialise Open Directory and reset profile manager.  To no avail.  Apple say to reinstall Mavericks, Server and try again.
Funny thing is I got profile manager to work as an MDM in a test environment, but changing DNS after doing so much configuration seems to have made a real mess of things.  Vowing to make a time machine backup as soon as Mavericks re-installs.
Anyone know of any guides other than the one on krypted.com, which appears to be for the previous version of Profile Manager.

In general, either your OS X Server box has a DNS translation for its address, or it doesn't.
If you don't have valid DNS, you will have problems with various services, as DNS is fundamental to distributed authentication and encryption, among other uses.
OS X Server doesn't recover well from installations that start off with DNS errors, and the wipe and reinstallation suggested by Apple is usually easier than resolving the various issues that tend to arise within the configurations of the various services.
If your server doesn't have a valid DNS translation, then either add the DNS translation into your organization's local DNS environment, or work to retrain or replace the folks that are unwilling or unable to administer and to properly maintain local DNS services, or (far less desirably) configure and start your own parallel DNS services.  There are other options, of course.
I'd escalate this discussion to management, and let them sort this out — at its core, this very likely isn't a technical issue.

  • IOS 5.1 or iPhone Configuration Profile 3.5 for Windows has not fixed the issue with apply Proxy Settings

iOS 5.1 or iPhone Configuration Profile 3.5 for Windows has not fixed the issue with apply Proxy Settings via a Configuration Profile. Has anyone else got the same issue? Are Mac users got this issue?

This seems to be working for me now but will keep monitoring it the next couple of times I use it to make sure its not a one time thing

  • Import Placeholders in Profile Manager not working

What is the trick to getting the import placeholders option to work in Profile Manager. The instructions say to format a CSV file with name, serial number, UUID, IMEI and MEID numbers all separated by commas and if you don't have a number to leave the field blank. I have the users name and MEID and have tried a couple of different formats and nothing seems to work.
    Ex:
    test user, , , , A100001XXXXXXX
    or
    test user,  ,  ,  , A100001XXXXXXX

Yes, I have tried putting the fields in quotes like both instances you have plus a few other variations.
I did discover from the console logs that I needed a header row which after much trial and error I was able to create and stop generating that error, but even with a header row it still tells me I have no valid placeholders.
This is the header row I am using. I retrieved the field names from the logs when manually adding a place holder.
    "DeviceName", "SerialNumber", "udid", "IMEI", "MEID"

  • Iphone configuration profile - installed apps are removed

Does anybody have an idea what causes the apps already install on my iphone/ipad are wipped out when i load of profile from the iphone configuration program?

Were the apps purchased from the same account as your music? Do you always sync to the same computer? If both are true you have a seriously corrupted iPhone. Assuming it is not jailbroken, Restore it with iTunes as a New phone and do not restore your backup. Manually add your content back.

  • Distributing iPhone Configuration Profiles: Safari Error

    Hello,
I created a configuration profile using iPhone Configuration Utility that I emailed and successfully installed on an iPhone 3G 2.0.
I copied (via scp) the same file to server running Mac OS X 10.5.2. When I first downloaded the profile (named CP-V.mobileconfig) using Safari, the iPhone displayed the raw XML of the profile. Re-reading the Enterprise Deployment Guide, I added the proper MIME type: "AddType application/x=apple-aspen-config mobileconfig" and reloaded Apache.
Now, the iPhone displays "Safari can't download this file".
Apache logs no error and logs the access:
    ... "GET /iphone/CP-V.mobileconfig HTTP/1.1" 200 4005
Any suggestions for how to debug this?
    -- Tom Kishel

I had the same problem and after a lot of head scratching I finally figured out that I had my MIME type set incorrectly.
Mine was set to "application/x-appleaspen-config" rather than "application/x-apple-aspen-config".
Once I made that change the profile worked like a charm.
To check mime types you can use the www.web-sniffer.net service. Select "Request type: HEAD" to see the http response header only.

  • Can configurator/profile manager group apps

Appologies if this post is in the wrong section.
I have been asked to set up profile manager in such a way that the on-site admin can not only wirelessly deploy apps to devices, but also group and re-group those apps together on the devices screen over-the-air.  End result should be that end users do not have to wade through a sea of apps just to find one application (users include a large number of very young children, so it has to be easy to direct them to specific apps).
Now I'm aware that this could be achieved by making a back-up of a pre-configured device, however, this doesn't work well in terms of maintaining the iPads configuration since any new apps added would fall outside of the grouping and the devices would need to be returned to the server room to get their configurations updated with a new backup image and would defeat the purpose of using Profile Manager.  I have attempted to convince the on-site admin that they should assign the devices to gropus in profile manager so that Group A only get the apps they use, Group B only get the apps they use, and so on the really isn't keen on the idea because there would still be way too many apps (we're talking 50 or so per device) to wade through just to find the one the class will use.
Is this possible or will it at some point in the future be possible?  The advances made by this new version of profile manager and the VPP store is fantastic, but it'd be nice if this feature could be added at some point in future.
    Kindly
    Stom

If I remember it correctly the user (Apple ID) get a 30 days grace period during which they can migrate data from the app and continue use it. When that period ends they get the opportunity to buy the app for themselves and continue using it for their own money.

  • Profile manager not working? iOS 6

I have mac mini working as Mountain Lion Server 10.8.2, Server.app 2.1 (upgraded from 10.7.4 Server)
(All services are using 3rd party ssl certificates)
previously enrolled devices are getting push changes.
I got a new iphone 4 (service upgrade) with ios6, and when i enroll it, it gets a name: New Device in profile manager
Not the name that it has been named. And the push settings arent pushed. Other devices do get changes.
I got the right name for the iphone to profile manager, by filling the data as a place holder device. Then it got the
right name for the device. But push payloads are not working.

the device logs gets 500 error code, you van see this in iphone configuration utility or in apple configurator.
    as follows in console:
"US Desc: A transaction with the server at “https://server.com/devicemanagement/api/device/connect” has failed with the status “500”.
    Domain : MCHTTPTransactionErrorDomain
    Code   : 23001
    Type   : MCFatalError

  • Do I need internet access on my iOS devices to enroll with Profile Manager?

Hi, I'm trying to configure Profile Manager on a closed network. The Mac Server does have Internet access, but the network for the iOS devices can only have communication with the server, but not to the internet because of company policies. Is there a way around to make it work or do I need internet access on the iOS devices as well?
I've made the enrollment process in another network with internet access for every device and everything works well, but on the other network(no internet for iOS devices)  everything seems ok (from conection to the server, profile certifiacation and stuf) but the devices can't send or receive anything else, like pushed configurations and device info. Ports and everything is ok, I even read that they need to be on an open network so I know it all comes down to having internet access, but just wanted to ask if there's another way around?? Suggestions?
    Thanks!

You can share internet connection with your XP-PC using a router(as I do with XP-old MAC's,connected via cable). You may look for more info at:

Did you ever use a MAC before? Have you got Airport at your PC?Which?
    Good luck

  • Tasks to iOS devices stuck sending in Profile Manager

I am managing about 30 iPads and 10 iPhones through Profile Manager.
I installed iOS 7 on a freshly wiped iPad and enrolled it with the server and everything works as expected (including locking, updating info, pushing settings, etc)
I then updated an already enrolled iPad from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7. Everything appears to still be intact (all settings, apps, profiles, etc) but it will not longer accept commands (lock, clear passcode, push settings, etc) from the Profile Manager. When I try to send a task it just shows sending and never fails or completes. The iPad has internet access (it is on the same wifi network as the above mentioned iPad that is working fine)
Other already enrolled devices that have not yet updated to iOS 7 seem to complete tasks (Update info) just fine.
I was running 10.8.4 with OS X Server 2.2.1 when this began, and have since updated to 10.8.5 and Server 2.2.2 with no change in behavior.
How can I troubleshoot why this iPad is not completing commands. I'm worried that as my users update to iOS 7 other iPads will not recieve commands and I will need to have them re-enroll with the server in order to manage them. (Which I would like to avoid if possible)

I've already asked people to hold off on updating, but without any way to prevent them from updating, I just have to hope...
I installed the iPCU and have looked at the console but I'm not seeing anything relevant. It's like the the command isn't being recieved by the iPad at all (even though Profile Manager shows it as sending, the iPad has internet access, and another iPad on the same network has no problem recieving commands)
Looking at the logs on an iPad that is receiving commands (the iPad with a fresh iOS 7 install, enrolled with Profile Manager after iOS 7 was installed)  I see entries related to MDM:
    Sep 19 07:18:05 iPad-iOS7 mdmd[99] <Notice>: (Note ) MDM: mdmd starting...
Sep 19 07:18:06 iPad-iOS7 mdmd[99] <Notice>: (Note ) MDM: Looking for managed app states to clean up
    Sep 19 07:18:08 iPad-iOS7 mdmd[99] <Notice>: (Note ) MDM: Network reachability has changed.
    Sep 19 07:18:08 iPad-iOS7 mdmd[99] <Notice>: (Note ) MDM: Push token received.

  • Profile manager sign with cert not working with signed cert

    Hello all,
I purchased a Code Signed Certificate from DigiCert (Who I have many other certs with)
I downloaded it and imported it into profile manager, it origionally told me that "This certificate could not be used to sign a profile" but after a restart that error went away, but now when I click the checkbox to enable signing it tries for 5-7 seconds and then just unchecks the box, but does not show an error.
If I change back to the self signed it works fine.
Has anyone had success with DigiCert Code Signed cert? or with this issue with another cert company?
    Thank you,
    -Patch
    Patch Charron
    Kensington Church

    Solved.
Got it working by calling DigiCert support.
They had me get the cert from Firefox in Windows and transfer it and apply their own intermediate certificate.
Thanks for Digicert support for such a responsive support team.

  • Profile Manager Application Deployment

While working on building payloads in Profile Manager I encountered an issue with application deployment. It seems the applications I'm attaching are downloading, but failing during install. I read online that this is because Profile Manager does not have a provisioning profile and that to correct this you must either give it one or configure Profile Manager to obtain it automatically.
    Anybody have information on this?

    Hi,
note that as of today the only reason to use system-jazn-data.xml is if the application uses custom JAAS login modules or ADF Security. If you use J2E container managed authentication and authorization then you create a jazn-data.xml file in your project. The workspace-jazn-data.xml fil is used only if the project doesn't contain its own jazn-data.xml file.
To add a file, select New from the context menu on the project and go to the deployment descriptor section. Make sure you chose "all technologies" from the select box above and then select OC4J descriptors. Choose jazn-data.xml as a descriptor to create. After that, edit the jazn-data.xml file by right mouse clicking on it and selecting "properties" from the context menu.
The project jazn-data.xml file is deployed with teh application
Settings in the system-jazn-data xml file are not copie upon deployment and need to be added manually to the target platform

  • Profile manager shows 'new device' instead of device name.

Have just enrolled an iphone into profile manager for - oddly it just isnt showing up as it's proper name and attempts to 'update info' just hang. Our other deivces continue just fine. I can't figure out why this iphone is such a problem. I've restored back to factory iOS in tunes and its still just showign as 'new device'.
    Anyone else seen this?
    OS X 10.8.2, Server App 2.1.1

I'm having the same issue now with a device that's on the latest iOS (6.1.1)
    Symptom:
    1.  Enroll device, no issue
    2.  Install Trust Profile and Settings for Everyone, no issue
    3.  Put user in proper Device Group, those settings never push down. Always show "sending".
    Troubleshooting:
    1.  Completed wiped iPhone and manually installed new OS - same issue
    2.  Removed user's account from our Apple Server, recreated account, reenrolled device - same issue.
    3.  Replaced the iPhone hardware - same issue
    4.  We have tried these steps both on the cellular data connection and on a unrestricted wifi connection - same issue
Woudl really like to get this resolved.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • How to import Lion Server VPN Configuration Profile into Profile Manager

    Greetings All,
I'm working on configuring a Lion Server VPN (10.7.2) and I hit the following road block. I succesfully started the VPN server and profile manager. In fact, if I download the built-in "everyone" profile that has the pre-configured VPN to device such as an iPad things work just fine. However, I'd like to create other profiles with the same VPN configuration info so I can delegate more specifically to different groups and users. I was hoping I could simply import the VPN configuration profile that I saved in the Server dashboard when I setup the VPN service into profile manager somehow. The reason I'm going this route is because every time I try to just re-make the VPN profile it doesn't want to work. I'm not sure why, but I figure why re-invent the wheel if I don't have too. Any suggestions?

After a lot of investigating I haven't found a way to do this, I'm assuming it cannot be done.
