Importing iPhone contacts onto google g-mail contacts

So, if i add a contact onto my iPhone (name and number) SOMETIMES it syncs with Google contacts. Some don't, though, and it's really annoying. If I add a contact to my google gmail contacts then it automatically syncs with my phone. Thing is, i don't carry around my laptop, and when i see a friend and get a number or e-mail address i want to be able to make a contact with all their info on my phone, and then let it sync to my comp whenever. i thought i could figure it out myself, so i went to settings on my phone, then to *mail, contacts, calender* then scrolled down and tapped the *Import SIM Contacts* then tapped my e-mail address... but that just doubled the contacts that i already had on my phone. any one else have this problem?

The contacts stored on the SIM card used with another phone has no affect on this. You can import contacts stored on the SIM card that was used with another phone, but that is it and where it stops in regards to the iPhone.
Accessing a Gmail account as an Exchange account provides over the air syncing for contacts with the iPhone, but this is an entirely new protocol for Google, which I believe is still considered a BETA, which means there could be some problems until the bugs are worked out by Google and it is no longer in the BETA category.
When syncing contacts over the air, the contacts are actually stored on the server and should be kept synchronized with the server. If you turn Contacts off for over the air syncing with your Gmail account on your iPhone, server stored contacts will removed from your iPhone since the connection with the server for this data is no longer available, and the same when deleting the account from the iPhone's Mail client.
If contacts entered on your iPhone are not making it to the Google server, go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Select your Gmail account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. This will remove all Google online contacts from your iPhone with a warning message provided indicating this will occur. Wait a minute or two for all Google online contacts to be removed from your iPhone. Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing. Enter a contact on your iPhone and check if it makes it to your Google online address book.

You can't. The iPhone does not store any data at all on the SIM.

  • Importing iphone contacts to new macbook air address book

I haven't discovered a way to get all my iphone contacts onto my macbook air address book - can anyone advise how this can be done?

What you want to do is first be very careful when following these steps, and second, make sure your iPhone has been synced with the computer it was set up with originally so it makes a backup of the data.
To force the iPhone to back up, plug it into the computer it was synced with originally, right click on the iPhone from the list, and select Back Up.
Once you have backed up your iPhone data, follow these next steps -- it can be scary, but you'll be fine, that's why you backed up before hand:
*First off, you want the contacts to be locally on the phone, not on an exchange server or mobileme, etc, to do this follow these steps:*
    1) In your iPhone settings, go to mail contacts calendars, select the account that has your contacts, slide the bar for contacts OFF.
    2) A dialog will come up asking if you want to delete the contacts from the iPhone, and you choose NO.
That step will copy the contacts from your exchange or mobileme server locally onto the iPhone.
*Secondly you will then sync it with the new Air by following these steps:*
    1) Plug the iPhone into the Air, and when it asks to erase and sync choose no.
    2) Go to the Info tab and select the checkbox for Sync Address Book Contacts -- DON'T CHOOSE ANY OPTIONS NEAR THE BOTTOM THAT SAY TO REPLACE INFO ON THE DEVICE.
    3) Click Sync, and allow the info to sync. It may give an option to Merge or replace, make sure to press Merge.
*Once you're done syncing again, you can re-enable the contact syncing again:*
    1) Go back to the settings on your iPhone/iPad, and mail, contacts, calendars, then to the account you turned off the contact syncing on. Turn the contact syncing on again, this time since you just want what's on the server, choose to delete the contacts from the device. You can also choose to merge the contacts if there's stuff you had on the Air that you wanted back on the exchange server.
    Enjoy!
Oh and these steps work for calendar information as well.

  • How to import iPhone contacts to SIM Card?

I am buying a new phone, and I have a lot of contacts on my SIM. I don't know how to transfer my iPhone contacts to my SIM?

Maybe if you gave us some clue what kind of phone you're getting... If you're getting a newer iPhone, then all you have to do is back up the old one, and restore it to the new one. If you sync contacts with a cloud service that's compatible with your new phone, you can just sync them down. Virtually no modern smartphones actually store contacts on the SIM. The format for contact storage on a SIM card can only hold a fraction of the information many people keep for their contacts.

  • How can I import iPhone contacts into Mac Address book

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and am in the process of trying to dump my Windows PC.
All of my important contacts are on my iPhone. How can I get those contacts into my Mac Address Book?
The same question goes for the music (ripped from CD) and my video files that are on my iPhone? The media is not that big of a deal because I can easily transfer it from my PC to my Mac but I assume I am not the only one in the world trying to do this and that Apple would make it very easy for MSFT Windows users to easily migrate to Macs.
I must be an idiot but I don't see any option in iTunes to transfer the data from my iPhone into iTunes and/or the Address Book.
    Thanks

The iPhone's primary function is NOT a word processor or a spread sheet analyzer.
I didn't say, nor was I trying to imply ANYTHING of the sort. You should read what I provided again a little slower and in it's entirety, not taking this out of context, which you made into Apples and Oranges.
It IS an iPod, a device designed to store and play music (in addition to being a browser and a phone).
It is a phone, an iPod, and an internet device, which supports transferring iTunes content from iTunes on a single computer ONLY.
Making it difficult to transfer my legal music from my iPhone to my Mac does not make me want to go out and buy more Apple products or Apple software.
Good, then don't - no skin off my back. I couldn't care less if you want to remain a Windows sufferer. All this doesn't come from Apple. Much of it comes from those who OWN the distribution rights for content sold thru the iTunes Store.
All of Apple's commercials imply how easy the user experience is over Windows. Well, in this case, they missed the boat BIG TIME!
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but let me get this straight. You will likely need to transfer much more than just music from your Windows PC to your Mac and if so, how do you plan on accomplishing this? If you are transferring Word and Excel files, photos, and any other data, you won't be using an iPhone for this, so I don't see the big deal with transferring your iTunes library along with all other data being transferred.
I understand that the iPhone was not designed to be used as a backup. However, you allow the contacts to be merged in but not the music that I legally installed (but didn't purchase from the iTunes store).
I don't allow anything - this is a user to user help forum only.
As I provided in my first post in this thread - the sync process for contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks with an iPhone is bidirectional with the supported application on your computer. This is a sync process by definition of syncing - which is not the same for other data such as iTunes content and photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
Apple wants to make it difficult unless I purchased the music from iTunes.
No, Apple or really those who own the distribution rights or the copyright holders for content sold thru the iTunes Store wants to make this difficult. Content sold thru the iTunes Store is set up by Apple to be a break even - which is included with the Apple stockholder's report. Apple makes their profit via sales of the iPod and iPhone. The bulk of the iTunes Store revenue goes to those who own the distribution rights or the copyright holders for the content.
In addition, if my hard disk suffered a crash and I lost all my music it just seems stupid not to be able to pull it off my iPhone (yes, I know data should be backed up on a different drive, and mine is, but I am sure a lot of people do not back up their data).
Maintaining a backup of your data is important for this very reason, and for other reasons which is not Apple's responsibility. I believe iTunes includes an occasional warning message to backup your iTunes library (which can be turned off), and iTunes includes an option to transfer content purchased from the iTunes Store from an iPod or iPhone - since the overwhelming majority of this content includes DRM protection required by those who own the distribution rights or the copyright holders.
The iPhone was not designed as an external storage device or as a backup device - end of story. If someone chooses not to maintain a backup, they are playing Russian roulette with their data. Maintaining a backup is important regardless the platform, but even more so when running Windows with constant virus, adware, and spyware concerns.

  • How do I import iPhone contacts to my mac

Ok so I'm trying to import my I phone 5s contacts to my MAC notebook pro.  Have no luck doing this via itunes as read in previous blogs.  Thinking something is just truned off in either the mac or the phone.  Help would be great!!!!

Open the calendar and contacts on your Mac and check the left sidebar.  Want account do the calendar and contacts on your Mac belong to?  Is it On My Mac, an external account such as Gmail/Google or Yahoo, or iCloud?

  • HOW TO: Import iPhone contacts to Mac Address Book

    Hi,
Has anyone tried importing or copying his/her iPhone 4 contacts into the Mac's Address Book?
Is there a link that you can share that can refer me an existing topic in this discussions group?
    Thank you in advance.

Put one unique contact in Address Book, this entry can be fake, that doesn't matter, the important point is that Address Book not be empty. Do the same with iCal, if you have calendar entries. When you hit the sync button, with contacts selected in iTunes, this should generate a merge or replace prompt. Select merge.

  • How to move iPhone contact list with custom ringtones to OS X server Contacts?

I have recently setup a new Mac Pro, Mid 2012, running Mavericks OS X Server.  I was previously syncing through iTunes on Snow Leopard, 10.6...
Due to the changes in Mavericks WRT iTunes address book syncing, I want to setup Contacts in Server, as I do not want to use iCloud. I tried using the Address Book sync on my MacBook Pro, but that doesn't appear to save any custom ringtone data. I setup Contacts in Server & I moved the current address book to Mavericks, but dragging the contacts into the Server list in Contacts generates warnings, "Some contacts could not be copied to the server"  and then sometimes starts duplicating the groups and contacts. The system log has some errors that seem related (system & user munged):

    So the question is:
How to does one move or import iPhone contact list with custom ringtones to OS X server Contacts? ... and will Contacts save/preserve the ringtone settings?
    Thanks

lsof is the standard tool for listing open files, although I'm not quite sure it'll do what you want.
It will list every open file used by every process on the machine, including many you don't expect. I don't know how it will present files opened by network users - whether they'll appear as owned by the file sharing process or not at all. Definitely one to try.

It is kind of a long story...my mom was updating iphone on computer when computer crashed. iphone crashed. had friend move all info from crashed computer onto external hard drive. got new iphone.
so, she no longer has a computer and we have to share mine. she has her own itunes on an external drive and i have my own itunes on another hard drive. i got almost everything except the contacts moved back on her phone. i see the folder and contacts in a 'contact' folder on the external hard drive, but how do I move that to the new iphone without it being in outlook/google/yahoo. i tried 'adding folder' to the library containing the contacts, but that didn't work.

  • How Can I sync contacts FROM my iPhone TO my AOL E-mail?

How can I sync contacts FROM my iPhone TO my AOL E-mail? In other words, I want to keep all of my iPhone contact information intact and make AOL "mirror" it (and not wipe it out when I sync thru iTunes).

The iPhone supports syncing contacts with Outlook 2003 or 2007, or with Windows Contacts with Windows, and with the Address Book or with the Entourage address book on a Mac.
If you aren't currently using one of the supported applications on your computer for contact info - the supported address book application on your computer is empty, before syncing contacts enter one contact in the supported application on your computer. Make this contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data with the supported application on your computer, which you want to select.
After this, you can export the contacts from the supported application on your computer that is supported for import by your AOL online address book - if AOL includes such an option.

  • How do i import and sync my icloud / iphone contacts into address book on my macbook pro, how do i import and sync my icloud / iphone contacts into address book on my macbook pro

    HELP
how do i import and sync my icloud / iphone contacts into address book on my macbook pro, how do i import and sync my icloud / iphone contacts into address book on my macbook pro
Runnig 10.6.8 on a MacBook PRO.....

The easiest fix if you're running Snow Leopard is to export all your contacts, then import them into something like google (I already had a gmail account), and then just use google to sync your contacts instead of icloud (via the sync with Google button in the address book settings).
Its a bit sluggish to update, but it works well.  You can then point your iphone, and other iOS devices to use google for contacts too.
If Apple don't want to look after their customers, other companies will gladly do so....
