Importing iPhoto Albums in correct photo order?

I wish to import specific iPhoto v9 albums into Aperture 3 (trial). However, I cannot find any way to preserve the specific order of the photos that I have spent considerable time sorting in iPhoto. There are a number of options in Aperture 3 for sorting, but none allows me to preserve the original manual sort order in the iPhoto Album! I could export each album from iPhoto to say, a folder on the desktop, renaming them sequentially in the process, but this has to be a ridiculous way to import dozens of iPhoto albums. Surely I am missing something here!

Yes, they are manually sorted in iPhoto. I use the TITLE field to attach comments to each photo so I can't use this to automatically batch sort. I can't use the DESCRIPTION field for the individual comments because for some reason, this field is not imported into Aperture at all! (This could be disastrous for those of us who have put enormous effort into documenting photos).
I can't understand why importing albums from iPhoto into Aperture fails to preserve the manual sort order. The iPhoto import browser shows the correct order when set to KIND, but this is ignored when the album appears in Aperture. This seems to be a major bug in Aperture and a potential show stopper for moving our extensive iPhoto albums across to Aperture.
Can anyone think of a work-around?

How do I get photos in a specific iPhoto album into My Photo Stream so that I can use my Apple TV to show them in a slideshow on my TV?

That is not possible - PhotoStream has no organizational capability - no albums or other organization
With the correct software versions You can import from PS into an iPhoto event on your Mac either automatically (by setting the iPhoto preference to do that) or manually and then you can add the photos ot an iPhoto album and sync to Apple TV

  • Importing iPhoto albums from a dvd?

To free up space on my hard drive I burned my iPhoto Library to a dvd. But I still want to be able to access the photos on the dvd in the future. As a test I tried to import an album from the dvd and I get this message (couldn't create: users/xxx/Pictures/iPhoto Library/xxx/xxx/xx/xxx.jpg) for each picture in the album and then this (Unreadable Files 3: The following files could not be imported [they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data.]) I sort of understand this since the album folders only contain aliases of the actual jpgs.
My question, then, is how does one import albums from burned media back into iPhoto? Mind you, I'm still using iPhoto 2, so perhaps this is an easier task in more recent versions? Thanks in advance for any help.

How did you burn the library to the DVD disc. If it was by dragging the entire iPhoto Library folder to the disc and burning via the Finder you won't be able to open it from within iPhoto. To be able to do that you must have selected the items to be burned and then use the Burn button in the lower right hand corner. That's the only way you'll be able to see the items in iPhoto.
To correct that you could copy that iPhoto Library folder to your desktop and open it with iPhoto (launch with the Option key depressed and select the desktop library folder). Now you can select that entire library and burn it again using the Burn button. That disc will be readable by iPhoto when it's inserted into the drive with iPhoto running.

  • How do I fix orientation of photos after they were changed after importing iPhoto library into new Photo app in Yosemite?

When I switched over to the new Photos app in Yosemite v10.10.3 and imported my iPhoto library to it, random photos in my library had their orientation changed. Some are upside down and some are turned on their side. I have a huge photo library, so this is frustrating. Hoping I don't have to go in and fix each one. I tried rebuilding my library by lauching Photo holding down option+command, but that didn't fix anything. Please help! Mahalo!

You do not have duplicate albums or photos.
    Photo Stream
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/photo-stream.html
The Camera Roll is for photos/videos that were captured by your iPhone, and for a photo saved from a received email, MMS, or from a website. These photos are also placed in the Photo Stream to be synced with your computer and/or with another iOS 5 device. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
All photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process are stored in the iPhone's Photo Library. The photos in the folders or albums below include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library. The photos are not duplicated taking up double the storage space. This way you can view the photos in a particular folder or album below only by selecting the folder or album, or you can view all photos in all folders or albums be selecting Photo Library.
    This cannot be changed.
Removing photos or folders/albums of photos from your iPhone that were transferred from your computer via the Tunes process is done in the same way - via the iTunes sync process.

  • Selectively import iPhoto albums (and keep them in their current location)?

    I'm new to Aperture.
I have about 60,000 photos in iPhoto. I would like to import my iPhoto collection in year-by-year albums to break up this collection to more manageable pieces. I've made smart albums in iPhoto for each year.
From Aperture I would like to import these albums while keeping the photos in the iPhoto library.
I assume I would click the 'import' icon (top left), then navigate to my iPhoto library in the bottom pane, select the album from iPhoto, choose 'Store files: In their current location' and go.
Problem: my iPhoto library does not appear in the file browser from the import window.
Am I doing something wrong here? How would I accomplish this? Is there a different/better way to achieve this?

I had the same idea as you about a year or more ago. The problem with importing iPhoto images into Aperture by reference is that when iPhoto gets updated and its library layout changes (happens every major iPhoto update), Aperture has trouble finding the images. When you try to relocate masters, you cannot peek into the iPhoto library package to reconnect them so you're screwed.
I have changed my strategy. I now keep all images in Aperture and only copy images into iPhoto when I need some iPhoto feature such as calendars or greeting cards.

  • How to import iPhoto album from CD (not entire library)?

I am trying to set up a workflow where multiple people in multiple cities can export an album from iPhoto and send the CD to me. Once I receive it, I'll import it into my iPhoto library. I would like to import it directly in to Aperture though. What is the best way to do this?
Should I import into iPhoto then have my library linked to Aperture or should I keep everything in Aperture? I do not need to edit -- only catalog based on the keywords each person attaches to each photo. I don't think that exporting the photos by themselves (instead of the album they are in) gives me the comments field so I would lose the comments. That is why I need the entire album instead.
I hope this makes sense. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Terence,
Yes, they are using v7. The thing is, since I posted the question, I found that doing an album burn (not a file export) will save the data, but in a file other than the image file. When you mount the CD you just burned to in iPhoto, the data shows up in the comments field. When you import the data though, the comments don't get imported.
I found a third party utility called iPhoto Library Manager that takes care of this. It allows you to do a lot of stuff like imports, library merges, etc. that iPhoto doesn't do. Very handy little app, but I think iPhoto should at least allow you to import an album from another system with all the info intact (especially since it exports it into the xml file included with the photos).

  • HT6378 How to copy iPhoto albums to iCloud Photo Library?

I have several years of photos in my iPhoto library.  How do I copy these into iCloud Photo Library, retaining all my albums?  I don't want to just copy all the photos without keeping my organization.

After having upgraded all devices to latest version, I wonder how do you get now the Mac iPhoto library into iCloud Photo library? iCloud Photo Library setting has been enabled on all devices.
iPhoto on your Mac is not supposed to work with iCloud Photo Library. The new "Photos" app for the mac will be able to do it. The release of this app  has been announced for "Early next year".
For now, only your mobile devices can upload to iCloud Photo Library.  So you have to upload your photos to the mobile devices to get them into iCloud Photo Library Beta.
That is not easy, because you cannot upload from your iPhoto library to your iOS 8 devices using iTunes with  iCloud Photo Library Beta enabled on the device. It will disable syncing photos with iTunes. As long as you are using  iCloud Photo Library Beta, mail the Photos to your devices or upload using Photo Stream.

  • Import iPhoto ALBUMS via Photostream

    Hello,
I bought a new MacBook and I want to import my photos and albums from my iMac. Only the photos are no problem but I can't import the album structure. How can I solve the problem without buying an external hard drive?

Directly from the phot app does present some roadblocks, but if you use a combination of GoodReader (pull the images into it) and Dropbox, you should be able to accomplish that. Works for me.

  • IPhoto images missing in Edit window after importing iPhoto albums folder

A friend of mine with new macbook tried to import her iPhoto images from an external hardrive. She move it to her user photo album and then i believe she tried to point to it after launching iphoto. She told me there were some options windows popping up and she does not remember what they said but the current result is that many of her photos do not appear when she clicks on the thumb nails to edit them: said there is a grey field with a questin mark.
My thought was to somehow repoint to the file or dump the .plst file.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    todd

    Todd
The question mark shows up when the link between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window loses the location of the file it points to.
The most common cause of this is User activity in the iPhoto Library Folder. It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.
    As your friend now sees.
Unless your friend nows exactly what changes she has made, I'm afraid the best way to fix this is to start again, importing from your originals folder.
There are comprehensive instructions for moving the iPhoto Library Folder in the Help, or if you need more you can most on here.

  • Attempting to Import iphoto book to i-photo

I would like to post several iphoto books to iweb.
I am using iphoto in ilife 08.
    1. I installed ilife and i believe it imported all my photo files.
    2. I created a book.
    3. I have attempted to post the book for others to view. Each Time I hit save as Iphoto
I belive that is saving the PDF files in I-photo as Jpeg. The dialogue box goes through the saving process pages 1-20. I get the dialogue box to name and save. When I hit save in less than 30 seconds, I get the Theapplication unexpectidly quit dialgue box.
In attempting this over with three books over the past few days, I did find by happenstance find some files saved as JPEG in the trash. I was able to import those to iphoto and then create a web page.
How can I get the program to work like I photo 6.
I have 6 or 8 books to complete....
Can I go back to Iphoto 6 ?
    Please advise.

    Bob:
What you're experiencing is an bug that came up with iPhoto 7. It's been discussed extensively along the way. One possible fix is to make sure you have no text boxes left empty. If you have any like that just put a space in it. That fixed it for some.
Others reported that their upgrade to Leopard corrected the problem for them. You can do a search in this forum for PDF and crash to find those topics and see if any of the other possible fixes might work for you.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • HT3149 How do I export my iphoto album in the same order that it appears onto a flash drive or dvd?

How do I export one of my albums in iphoto in the same order that it appears onto a flash drive or dvd?

Remember that the FInder does not have the same sorting options that iPhoto has - no manual sorting for instance. So
File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue note the options for Naming Files
Album Name with Number will give you what you want.

  • Importing iphoto albums of old mac

Hi, I have just bought a new macbook pro running iphoto 11. I used to have an older ibook with little storage so i transferred photos from 2008-2002 to external hard drive.
Recently, I selected these photos that i have stored on external hard drive, dragged them into new iphoto but they havent gone into their original albums. Is there anyway I can get these photos assigned back into their original albums??? please help me!
I was assuming that each jpeg has a number assigned to it which would be stored with relation to album assignment ect, but doesnt seem to be the case.

Thanks for that. I kind of assumed this was the case. What I am worried about is dragging the iphoto library (off hard drive, which is not up dated) onto the new library folder and it replaces the current library which has many new photos on it.
Of course it would - you said you have a new mac - not one with existing photos - so you need to drag the iPhoto library from the old system to the new (different) system desktop (or another folder) so you do not overwrite your (unmentioned) existing library and depress the option key and launch iphoto using the select library option to point to this copied library - once it is converted you can purchase iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - and merge teh libraries
When I bought the new mac I did the transfer of the two macs on start up with fire wire cable. worked well, but i had deleted off the current library the older photos which i kept stored on the hard drive.
I am not clear what this means

  • IPhoto album not uploading for order

My computer keeps timing out and closing unexpectantly everytime I try to purchase an iBook Album. It's freezing during the upload process and cancelling my order. Any ideas on what's going on? Could it be size of photos? How do I reduce the size of the album...or do I have to reduce the size of each photo? Any ideas?

    it is not the size
    will it preview -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
If it does then boot into safe mode, preview again - the fonts might change and try again

  • Sync iPhoto album with iCloud photo stream

I have a couple of albums - used basically as categories.
I want to be able to sync the albums with iCloud. I know you could just add the photos to an iCloud photostream, but it takes a couple extra minutes each time when you do that.
So basically, I want my albums to be copied as iCloud albums, and then just updated automatically when I add a new photo to that album.

Not possible.  Send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

  • Importing iphoto albums

I cannot see my iphoto pics in Lightroom or photoshop I am using the trial version however I do not find this user friendly in terms of importing at present it is frustrating and unless I get a solution I do not think I will purchase surely if you want iphoto customers you need to make this initial action simple and mac like

I have this same question, and I did this:
    1) Opened the hard drive on computer A, copy and pasted the photos I wanted from the Pictures --> iPhoto --> Library --> "original" folder into my external harddirve.
    2) Attached my external harddrive to computer B and copied the files in reverse. With this method they didn't show up in iPhoto.
    3) So then I opened iPhoto, File --> Import, from harddrive and it did work!
Here's my problem... the reason I did this is to add the photos to my iMovie. When I open iMovie, click on Media --> Photos, all the photos I imported are there, but when I drag them down onto the storyboard they are blank... no photo!
So I am thinking my method of copying and pasting photos from computer A to computer B was incorrect! Should I have "Exported" the photos from Computer A's iPhoto??
