Importing Issue with Canon 7D

I am having a problem when I import my photos into aperture 3. I have the latest update to aperture 3, raw files, and latest camera firmware as well. I have tried 3 different CF cards as well. When I import a new project only a fraction of the photos are imported and aperture says that is wasn't able to import them all. I can repeatedly do an import and all of them will eventually make it into the library, but obviously this is not how it is supposed to work. I have tried importing into iPhoto 11 and everything works fine. I have reinstalled Aperture 3 as well and created a test library in case of library corruption. Any insight from anyone would be great. I have an airshow I am shooting this weekend and this could be a huge pain. Thanks!!

Recently, I have been experiencing the same problem.
Aperture 3 will only download a fraction  of files via USB through the camera.
Card reader or camera, it should work.
This has never been a problem, this started about four weeks ago.
Actually, this has only been a problem on my IMAC 24" - my laptop with the same installation of Apeture 3 works as it should; downloads all files on the card via the camera.
This is something that needs to be reported by all experiencing this challenge and then perhaps there will be a fix.
So, to get around this, I have tried a card reader ( which is a option ) but once again it should work via the camera.
Funny, there is no problem to down load with the same camera and the same usb connection and the same card into iphoto

  • Strange Import Issue with Canon 7D Footage Final Cut Pro X

I'm hoping some folks can help me here as I'm stumped.
I shot around 60 minutes of last evening with my Canon 7D.  File sizes ranged from 500MB to 4GB.  I imported from my 8GB memory card a 3.6 GB file and a 500MB file with no issue.  I then moved on to my 16GB memory card, which was full with around 7 clips, and started importing.  I noticed the import was going slow but I was also importing some audio from SD cards on the same card reader, which I've always done in the past, and figured it was just a USB 2.0 bandwidth thing.
I then got an error regarding the Import Failing (see attachment) but the file appeared to have imported without issue.  Upon further inspection during the import however, I noticed any file larger than 1GB was showing as the PAL codec (after it imports it correctly shows H.264 but more on that later).  I checked the 3.6GB file from my first import and it did not share this issue. While on the shoot I had backed up a number of these files to my iPad so I attempted to import them from there and althought he PAL codec was not listed, I did get the Import Failed error.  I also tried a brand new card reader and a different Event/Destination the issue remained.
I've restarted, repaired permissions, and the issue remains.  I have never encountered this error and imported a similar amount of footage and clip sizes two weeks ago.  I'm stumped, has anyone else seen this?

I did some experiments this morning, and Richard's method worked. Thank you!
However, I didn't follow Richard's steps 2 & 3.  When importing, I let FCP copy the files to the FC Events folder. It still worked.  In step 1, I did not copy the .THM files to the new folder on my HD.
I did a second experiment that did not work:
    1) Copy .mov files (only) from CF card to new folder on HD.---no .THM files
    2) "Create Camera Archive" with FCP - Store new archive in its own folder on my HD
    3) Tried importing from the new Camera Archive -  This crashed just like before.
This tells me FCP is OK with importing individual media files to a FC Event.  It seems to crash when it thinks there's a camera involved.
Later today I'll try to import some AVCHD files and see if it crashes on import.  For AVCHD footage, you need to rely on FCP's "Import from device" capability.  Those files need to be transcoded to be usable at all.
    More later.

  • Importing issues with Final Cut Pro X. Green flash and twitches while play back

Hello, I'm having some importing issues with Final Cut Pro X and I can't find any solution whatsoever. Perhaps my importing settings are wrong?
Anyways, I've done a lot of recordings on eye TV and HD PVR with some videos that are about 3 hours long. I exported them into H.264 files, which turns them into mpeg-4 files with AAC audio. Then I import them into final cut pro X and I notice it takes a long time for them to render the videos and I notice that there are some green screens and twitches while I play through the video.
Here is a screenshot of the green screen that I'm talking about:

Could it be my 2 video graphics card that is causing this kind of issues? Or is there any solution to fix this?
In the past, I've used iMovie 09 and it worked out perfectly. However, the new iMovie 11 is terrible because it automatically optimzie my 3 hour long videos into making the importing process to (144 hours long to import). Is there any way to get iMovie 09 back or am I stuck on dealing with this Final Cut Pro X issues?

  • Issue with Canon Legria HF20 and iMovie 09

I am having an issue with using the Canon Legria HF20 (which is the PAL version of the Canon Vixia HF20) with iMovie 09, and I am trying to confirm whether other people experience the issue.
I recently purchased the video camera, and while I am having no issues shooting in 25p, I am having an issue with 50i. When I shoot in 50i and import into iMovie at 'Full-Original Size" the footage displays with a horizontal interlaced combing effect, whereby if the camera moves left or right, horizontal lines appear, which causes the edges of things to look jagged. This is difficult to see in the small preview box, but is easy to see if you preview in full screen. I have been told that this shouldn’t occur as iMovie should recognise that the footage is interlaced and adjust the footage when being previewed (thanks Steve Mullen for confirming that). Again, there is no problem with shooting in 25p.
This link has an example I found on the internet of what I am seeing: http://media.photobucket.com/image/deinterlace%20video/jlatenight/deinterlace.jp g
Also, when I export the footage from iMovie using 'Export using Quicktime' at either 1080i or 720p, the footage remains interlaced even though I have selected 'Deinterlace Source Video'
So far I have been unable to get to the bottom of this issue. I have spoken to Apple and they are saying that while the Canon Vixia HF20 (NTSC Version) is on the official list of cameras supported by iMovie, the Canon Legria (PAL Version) isn’t, although they couldn’t say whether this could have something to do with the issue I am having.
Therefore, I was wondering if anyone could confirm whether they have experienced this issue. Can you please confirm that you are using the Legria version and not the Vixia version of the Camera.
I would really appreciate your help.

Well, it seems to me that it looks the same. I am not an expert here, but it occurs to me that you can either shoot in 25p or de-interlace it from 50i. I think it gives the same quality but the latter is more complicated unless you have the Final Cut.
Here I got an intersting link on that matter:

  • Import failed with canon 6d footage after latest update

After I updated to Final Cut X 10.0.8, I've been getting "Import Failed" messages during the import process when taking in footage from my Canon 6D
The import process also seems to be going very slow (slower than usual)
I've tried duplicating the SD card locally on the hard drive and re-importing, but have gotten the same results.
If I click OK on the error dialogue box, the import will continue. but another box will pop up every 5 to 10 minutes or so
    Any ideas?

Hey Russ, it actually works fine for me too the few times I've used it but I point it out as a common denominator with people who have trouble importing that way. Separating the .mov files into their own folder eliminates the camera and card reader, both much slower than just transfering files from a connected drive. But I'm doing newspaper video with Canon DSLRs - including 5D3 video, similar to 6D - almost daily where speed is of the essence and this is by far the most foolproof method I've come across.

  • Import issue with Lightroom

I upgraded to LR5.2 2 weeks ago from 4.3. Install went fine, but I'm now having issues when importing my photos, Lightroom hangs partially through the import.  The only choice I have then is to force quit the program, which then freezes my computer.  Getting to be an invredibly frustrating exercise.
I have an iMac with OSX10.8.5 (Mountain Lion)
    Lightroom 5.2
Importing & converting CR2 files (5DMkIII) to DNG.
Images being imported to an external hard drive.
Nothing has changed in my workflow or software except for the installation of LR5.  I did read in some of the forums that there was import issues that appear to have been fixed with the latest release, however, whilst I DEFINTIELY have the latest release of LR5,  this is still occurring.  Any ideas? Another bug?
    Cheers
    Sarah

sure did. All permissions are admin & I'm it.  I haven't tried DL via image capture - LR4 gets me to the same end goal, tis just rather onerous to have to muck around with this twice.  Appreciate your taking the time on this

  • Lightroom 5 auto import issues with nikon d90

Hoping someone can help answer my question - I am wondering if Lightroom 5 has any issues with the auto import or tethering feature using a Nikon d90? I was using Lightroom 2 and the auto import feature has no issues with my d90. After I installed Lightroom 5 (Cloud App) and ran it for the first time, the first thing I used was the tethering feature and it worked great for 4 shots. I turned my camera off and then back on again and LR would not recognize my camera any longer for tethering. What's strange is that it will detect it for "Importing from Device" option. So, I went to plan two which was to auto import and that wasn't working at all. I am at a loss. I have a shoot coming up this weekend and need for one of these options to work. Any help is appreciated!!!

I use a D90, but I have never tried tethered shooting with it. Other users might have some suggestions for you, but looking at the list of supported cameras for tethered shooting the D90 is not "officially" supported in Lightroom. So you're probably on your own to find solutions. I know this isn't a lot of help.

  • Fundamental importing problems with Canon PowerShot

when i connect my camera, a Canon PowerShot SD300 [digital elph] to my new MacBook Pro and turn the camera on, it opens iPhoto [6.0.6] and asks if i would like to import photos. i click "import," and tell it not to import duplicates. it tells me the count remaining and says its importing. i can wait any length of time and the number never goes down.
it has sort of successfully imported photos in the past [hence the 'do not import previous' above], but it seems to skip some photos and also downloads the same movies [avi's] each time.
is this bizarre behavior common? thanks for any help!
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   iPhoto 6.0.6 (322)

    Dan,
There is a problem with iPhoto 6 not respecting the "do not import duplicates" when importing directly from cameras. It obeys better when importing from a folder already on your hard drive.
iPhoto can also balk at longer video clips. I can import shorter clips (under 1 minute) directly into iPhoto, but have had iPhoto crash with long (3 minutes or more) clips.
Here's how I import from my Canon. I place the card in a USB card reader. This mounts on the Desktop as an external drive. [Many cameras do this, but most Canon models do not.] When I plug the card reader into my USB hub, I ignore iPhoto's "ready to import" dialog. Instead, I do File > Import to Library. I navigate to my camera card on the desktop, where I can preview the photos and select only the ones I need to import. I import all the pictures first. When they are in my library, I go back and select the video clips, one at a time. It can take a few minutes to import one, and there is no progress indicator, so I have to wait patiently.
If iPhoto crashes on the video clips, I open Image Capture, choose "Download Some" and select one clip at a time to upload to my Desktop. Given enough time, the clips will import successfully. Once on the Desktop, iPhoto has not had any trouble importing them.
If you don't have a card reader, you can use Image Capture to import all the files from your camera. Upload to a folder on your Desktop, then import that folder to iPhoto and delete it when done. In Image Capture's Preferences is the setting for what happens when you connect your camera or card reader. You can leave it set to iPhoto, change it to Image Capture, or set it to Nothing.
If you have had to cancel an import, then there may be an extra folder inside your iPhoto Library folder. In the Finder look just inside Pictures/ iPhoto Library and see if there is a folder called "Import" (or "Importing"). If there is, drag it out to your Desktop and see if it contains photos that you need for your library. Make no other changes inside the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder, as changes made this way can damage your library. If there is no Import folder, then you are in good shape.
    Regards.

  • Problems importing footage with Canon GL-2

I'm brand new to Mac & FCP, migrating from Casablanca after 8+ years.
I've had no luck using the "Capture Batch" option, so I've reverted to "Capture Now"...after reading lots of issues with the gl2. "Capture Now", though very time consuming, seems to work okay. I'll need to break the clips for editing. I'm thinking wedding recepiton (with lots of rec/pause). Using "Mark" then "DV Start/Stop Detect" works nicely, but when I trim the clips and put them in the timeline with a transition (such as page peel), the clip somehow continues past the end. For example, as the page is peeling back, the same piece of video is under the page...then it cuts to the next piece of footage, and continues the peel. FYI, all transitions do the same. I'm just using it as an example.
However, if I trim the pieces of video and put them in the timeline instead of using the above proceedure, the transitions work perfectly. BUT, unless I use the method above, I'll have to scrub through hours of footage. The Casablanca has an "auto split" option. I dump the footage, hit the button, and end up with a bunch of perfectly cut clips. FCP has to have something similar...
Thanks in advance for your input

  • Canon 20D import issue with lightroom 4

I have recently upgraded to Lightroom 4 and when I connect my Canon 20D the import screen finds the camera, displays thumbnails.  However, when I press the import key the software displays a message that no photos have been found.  I tried several times one time it identified the photos however it gave an error message that the photos could not be imported because of an error.  What gives

  • Lauching Lr import window with Canon Utility 2.8.1.0

    Hi
Using a Canon 7D I have configured the Canon Utility to lauch Lr when the Utility opens & begins to download images from the camera. (see attached file)
And Lr opens OK, and goes straight to import, but then only shows say the first few images (even if there are say 100 actually imported) (see image)
I can get ALL the images to show if I close & reopen the import dialogue, but it seems like if LR does open at this import dialogue box, then it should show ALL images ready to import wouldn't you think?
Its not a major problem, but seems like a software bug and could mislead a user
    ANy suggestions / fixes?
    thanks in advance

    Mucx,
The 50D is supposed to be a bit "noisier" than its predecessors according to some reviews, but at ISO 100, you should not be seeing any. The full suite of Canon software including DPP should have come with it. Before this is a Lightroom issue, you should make sure it isn't the camera. Try DPP and see what the RAW images look like there. Better yet Grab a screen shot of the two side by side if they are different, and post that.

  • Import issue with CR2 file, Lightroom 5.3 & OS X Mavericks

    Hi there,
I really hope someone can help. I've just switched laptops and installed LR 5.3 on to OS X Mavericks. Upon import I get an error message saying that the CR2 files are unreadable. So I took the same card and tried to import them on the old cranky laptop that is running Lightroom 5.2 and on OS X Mountain Lion and it imported without a problem (12 photographs took a long time but they were all readable and in LR) This is crazy frustrating. Does anyone know of a way around it? Have I done something wrong? The camera is a Canon 6D and Ive had no issues prior to this with Lightroom 5 on the old lap top.
    Thank you!!

    Kim,
When LR tells you the file cannot be read, what it really means is that the file cannot be written to the folder that you specified for your Copy or Move operation on import. (Yeah, it's a stupid message.)
Generally, this means that the folder you're writing to is set so that your user ID doesn't have permission to write there.
Try repairing permissions and make sure you have write access.

  • Camera importing  issues with leopard

i just upgraded to leopard- and i'm having troubles importing from either of my digital cameras-- it's always been so easy, just plug the camera (panasonic or canon) and iphoto would open and i'd say yes to import...
now with the panasonic i can import-- i see a volume mounted and can drag it to iphoto-- but i get several versions of each picture-- (and it's still not as smooth)
but with the canon (which is the primary camera in use) i can't do a thing-- the camera simply isn't recognized at all.....
since 80% of what i do with the computer is photo related, this is a huge ugly deal... i'm willing to dump the upgrade in order to have my camera functional again but i don't know if that's easy to do...
    any suggestions?

You're in the wrong forum -- this is for Mail and Address Book. Your issue is with iPhoto and/or your digital camera.

  • Rendering issues with Canon G11 and h264

I am - for the moment - stuck with some projects that involve importing video from a Canon G11, which saves video in h264 .mov format in 640 X 480 pixels at 30 fps. I keep getting red rendering lines when I transcode these filesinto Apple Intermediate Codec in MPEG Streamclip for importing into Final Cut Express 4.0.1 on MacBook Pro running 10.6.7. What settings should I be using to avoid the red render lines?
    1/ Should I use the 640 X 480 (4:3) setting in Streamclip or the 640 X 480 (unscaled)? Or another one?
2/ What should the sequence preset be in FCE since there is none for 640 X 480?
3/ And what is the difference between setting the codec in East Setup and in setting it by clicking on the Sequence 'Settings' dropdown menu and going to 'Load Sequence Presets? Which one of those should I choose?
4/ Also, I am for the moment having to work off the MacBook's hard drive since the person who purchased the LaCie external Firewire drive purchased the one that encrypts and has a fingerprint swipe and not the orange regular one we asked for. So they have to send it back. Might working off the hard drive be causing any rendering glitches?
    Thanks for any hand-holding.
    Douglas

The Apple Intermediate Codec is only for HD media. You need to use the DV NTSC Codec.
    1. You should use 720x480 at 29.97fps with uncompressed 48k audio.
    2. See 1.
    3. None. They go to the same place.
    4. No, but you might have dropped frame issues.
