Importing iTunes from a disk

Hello,
My old computer conked out and I was able to back up my iTunes library, now I'm trying to imprt them on my new computer, and it seems to take forever, and sometimes after it's done 'importing' it doesn't show up in my library. I've tried the 'drag and drop' method and alsom just selecting import.
Any suggestions on a speedy way to do this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

You need to find these 2 files from your back up copy, they may be in your iTunes music folder:
iTunes Music Library.xml
iTunes Library
Find the location of these files on your new computer and replace them with the new files. They should also be in the iTunes music library. Put the actual music files back into the iTunes music library folder and you should be good to go.
hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to import photos from a disk and retain the same order?

Is i possible to import photos from a disk and retain the same order they appear on the disk?  When I import them, the come out in random order.

When first imported the photos will be sorted in the Event chronologically. On the disk they well be sorted by the Finder and that's usually alphanumerically by file name. So select the photos in the event and type Commnad+N.  That will create a new album at the left with the photos in it. Then go to the View ➙ Sort Photo menu and select "By Title".  That should give you the same order as you view the photos on the disk via the Finder.

  • Importing iTunes from Old Computer to a New One

I want to import my old iTunes (files, name changes, data etc) to a new computer. However, iTunes is having toruble locating the files (obviously, since now the music files are in a different folder in the new computer...there was no way for me to replicate the old computer's file configuration for the music since it was scattered. I consolidated all the music files into one folder, thereby changing the original file location). I tried adding all the files first, from the new file location. Then I chose to import the old iTunes library data file. It successfully updated all the file names and date added entries, etc. However, when I went to play a song, it said it cannot find the file location and I was given an option to browse and locate it. I was hoping if I do one or two, it would so an auto find and locate all of them since they are in one folder. But it never did it, I manually did a bunch of files and no luck.
Is there any formulated way to make an auto find happen?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Go to the top of this page, click "support", type "move itunes library windows" or something similar into the support search bar, and read the articles that result from that search.

  • Re-importing video from a disk burned in iPhoto

When I re-import from a backup DVD/CD burned using iPhoto burn, video files import as a photo rather than video. That is I only get the first frame as a photo. If I view the CD in iPhoto the video works properly. If I dig into the disk the video is there along with the photos under the date. Am I missing something? Is there a fix?
    Thanks,
    -Rob

I re-import by opening the CD in iPhoto. It shows up as a shared disk. Then drag the content to either Photos or Events at the upper left: just as I would do to bringing in a photo from the desktop.
If I open the disk in Finder and drag the video files to either Photos or Events they import properly.

  • Importing Itunes from my external hard drive

I had a Macbook with my itunes music on it. Unfortunately, it was owned by my employers, so I had to return it when I changed jobs. I put all of my music files onto an external hard drive. I got my new Dell computer and am trying to import my music from my external hard drive to my new dell. The message reads that "The song cannot be used because the original file can't be found. Would you like to find it?" Interestingly, the music plays when my external hard drive is plugged in. Can anyone help me? My music is all legit....no illegal downloads....its all from my own cd library or itunes. I am so frustrated

It appears that you did not have "Copy to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" checked in Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced>>General when you added the tracks to your library.
(It might as well to look and see how you have this set).
So the library just contains a pointer to the external drive - so the tracks can only be found if the drive is pugged in.
If I have guessed right, consolidating your library will copy the files across into your iTunes Music folder. But be aware that it will do the same thing to any other music in your library but not in the iTunes Music folder.

Justy upraded to a MacBookPro and moved my iTunes library (media + playlist) from old windows notebook. After importing I have duplicates songs and playlist.  I followed the instructions provided on this forum for exporting/importing only the media files and playlist.  My library is very large and removing individual songs/playlist would be time comsuming.  Anotyher twisty is some songs are he same but with a different artist.  Any suggestions.  Koyangie

If you are a resident of the U.S. and have iTunes 10.3 or later installed on the new computer, you can re download your iTunes purchases for free without having to import.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Make sure and use the same Apple ID as on the prior computer.
On the new computer, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer before trying re download your purchases.

  • Import photo from recent disk not connected: LR gets waiting forever.

    Steps:
    1) Import photos and video.
    2) On the right I  find the recent destination directories.
    3) I select one of them referring a USB disk NOT currently connected.
    4) I run import.
PROBLEM: The program shows the progress bar but then nothing more happens: it waits forever (of course for the missing disk).
I am not sure this should be defined a bug, but LR could inform the user of what is waiting for.
    Regards.

If you're looking at the image off the card in loupe mode, of course it's going to be slow going from image to image. It has to read the whole image off the card each time. If you want to examine images in detail before importing them, it would work lots better to download the entire card to a folder on disk and then import your images from that folder.

  • Importing video from hard disk

I have quicktime 7.1.3 and I have .mpg file movies taken from my sony digital cd mavica-they play fine in quicktime but I cannot import them to imovie-
I read somewhere that I need quicktime 6.5 and I need to uninstall quicktime 7.1.3-
true, and how do I do that OR what is a solution for me?
    Thanks!

    Hi Guccigirl:
    Welcome t odiscussions!
QT 6.5.2 with imovie 4 and OS 10.3.9 is often suggested here for those using DV tape cameras. In your case, I don't think it will matter.
You do not have a firewire on your camera so you will have to suffer with the slower USB tansfer.
iMovie does not work with muxed MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 clips (and that's what you're trying to do)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42996
    You'll need:
MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 (free) and the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple).
    http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
Once you do that...these are the steps I once copied from a DCR-SR100 user...(I have not done this myself)
To transfer the data to the IMAC:
1- Plug the USB cable, once detected (5s), press HDD on the touch creen panel
2- Go to Finder (on the Mac) then open the videos folder /MP_ROOT/100PNV01/M2U0001.MPG for example
3- Drag the .MPG file to the mac
4- Start Streamclip (see message further up the discussion)
Export using for example .DV format, readable by I-Movie.
5-Import the new file in I-movie

  • Import photos from burned disks into library

I know this sounds like an easy question/solution, but I have been trying to import my older pictures which were burned onto disks into my library. On the hard drive it appears that I have done this, but when I open the iPhoto application I cannot access these photos and am unable to figure out how to put them into a slideshow. I am wanting to do this as a Christmas gift so if anyone out there can offer some advice I sure would appreciate it.

    I cannot access these photos
Please explain what happens or why you can not access them

  • Importing mail from backup disk

    Hi
My G5 iMac running 10.4.11 has packed in beyond repair, so am getting a new iMac with Snow Leopard installed. Fortunately I was able to do a complete backup before my iMac completely stopped working.
How should I transfer all my email / folders / account settings to my new iMac?
    Phil

    Hi Phil:
I did restore (actually migrate using the SD clone) from a G4 to an Intel-based iMac. If you restore the whole clone, you will restore to OS X 10.4 (not what you want, I assume).
As I recall, I cloned my G4 using SD to an external drive. Then I fired up the new iMac (it had OS X 10.5 at that time), hooked the external HD to it, and used migration assistant. Migration assistant gave me the option to "point" at the clone. In my case, everything worked very well!

  • Importing Pix From A Disk

A friend sent me a disc full of jpegs and I can't figure out how to import the pix into iPhoto. Also I cannot view the picturs as thumbnails because they only showup as icons. In windows you could go to view and click view as thumbnails to see the pix. Any advice?

Click on the CD icon and select all images on the CD (cmd A), then double click one of the images. All images will then show up in Preview. This will allow you to view all images on the CD.
    To import into iPhoto:
    1. Open iPhoto and resize to fit side-by-side with the finder window showing the image files on the CD.
    2. Select all the images on the CD (cmd A) or if you only want to copy certain images, click on the ones you want while you hold down the cmd key.
    3. Drag the selected images onto the iPhoto browser window.
    4. Images will copy to iPhoto.
