Importing iTunes playlist to iPhone?

How can I import my iTunes playlists to my iPhone's music player? I even have the iCloud update but I still can't see how to do this.

I don't have it working yet but I believe iTunes Wi-Fi sync is supposed to perform this function, not iCloud. Confusing, yes.

Manually manage music + import .m3u playlist to iphone 5 = duplicate songs

I tried searching the forums for a related questions but didn't find any. if it exists let me know.
i have a iphone 5 (ios 6) and a ipod 2g (ios 4.2). I use itunes on windows and manage both devices manually for music and videos. Now I have a playlist in WMP which I exported as a .m3u file.
In itunes, I can import the playlist and it shows up under the 'playlists' correctly. Now I wanted to transfer this playlist to my ipod and iphone (note: my ipod and iphone already have all the songs in the playlist plus many others. I never use them in 'sync' mode).
I was under the impression that a playlist is just a list of pointers to songs and not songs themselves. So when I drag the playlist into the ipod within itunes, it creates a new playlist with that name on the ipod and correctly transfers the pointers onto the ipod. the playlist works perfectly on the ipod and there and no duplicate songs.
now with the new iphone 5 and new ios 6, something seems to be different. when i drag the playlist into the iphone, it does create a new playlist but it copies all the songs again, even though the exact songs (all metadata identical since they're from the same physical source on my harddisk - album, artists, art, title, etc). so it creates duplicates of these songs.
now the still tougher part. I tunes apparently has a find duplicates feature. But it onyl seem to work for music imported into itunes library. It is greyed out if you click on the iphone and then try to find duplicates (if iphone is set to manually manage music.)
so is this expected behaviour? I think this is a bug in the new ios since the drag drop playlist manually works perfectly in ios 4.2.
any thoughts?

Unfortunately, you'll need to 'start fresh,' as it were. However, you could transfer your library from the old computer and sync. This MAY keep you from having to erase everything. Worst case scenario, if you transfer your library, though, would be to wipe it and then load the same content right back on.

I recently upgraded to an iPhone gs and am trying to import an iPod playlist created in an earlier version of iTunes. However the new version of iTunes will not recognize the playlist. Help please!

You probably need to convert them to MP4 files. You can use MPEG streamclip to do that.

How to sync a voice memo inside an itunes playlist to iphone?

Hello there.
Here's a tricky question and could find the answer nowhere.
I synced my iPhone with iTunes.
My Voice memos are on iTunes.
I deleted them from my phone. They're still on iTunes.
I create different playlists on itunes with my voice memos in them.
I check the "include voice memos" case for syncing.
...and the voice memos do NOT appear in my playlists on the iPhone! They're back in the Dictaphone app, but not in Music.
How can I deal with that?

OK. How do I take them OUT of the voice memos playlist. They are listed under Albums and the album name is VoiceMemos. I tried going into the get info section of one of them and tried to change it manually there to no avail. All I want to do is add ONE single voice memo (a recording of me singing a specific song to someone) to a playlist so that I can then burn that playlist to disc. This is REALLY annoying. Yet another reason that I should switch to Android. >:(

Can you import iTunes playlists from iPod?

I have moved my iTunes library off my computer and onto an external hard drive and somehow in the process have lost my playlist. (I didn't do a good job of moving over, had to basically download everything back from the cloud). So my music is all there but not my playlists. If I have my playlists on an iPod, can I import them into my new iTunes library from my iPod? If I plug in my iPod will it sync with library and will I lose all my playlists??

HT1751 Help with importing itunes playlists from an older OS?

I tried the steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751 for importing my older playlists from time machine, but got this in response: "The file “iTunes Library.itl” cannot be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file."
Old OS was 10.5.x, now have Mavericks, think that might have something to do with it.

This is not supported. Sometimes you get away with it for a while,
particularly if you're only going one release backwards, but
I'd be surprised if it would ever work going that far back.
To the original point, in addition to your own objects, the 2.5.1
system's shared libraries are also required for complete debugging.

WHY NO RATING WHEN IMPORTING ITUNES PLAYLIST ???WHY ??? WHY??? WHY ???

i went thru the process of dropping all my music files from a new drive back into ITUNES and imported all the playlists but they all came in minus the ratings ....... 25,000 songs - 600 gb of music ..... re-importing the old library also brought back in all my playlists but still with no ratings .... my entire existence hinges on being to quickly access the 5star system ..... it isn't just that the rating window needs to be turned on .... the option is visible but with no stars ......
let's see 65.7 daze to play 25,000 songs ... i could maybe rate each song again in 30 seconds .... so that is what ???? 20 hours or so if i am truly able to open , evaluate and mark each song ...... hmmmmm ..... more likely gonna take a minute per song ... **** - that's a long 3 daze at best !!!
any help would be a lifesaver ....

thanx for responding !!! .... i see that i misled you a bit by stating that i had dropped my music files from a "new" drive .... it just came time to start over - i had spent a month removing duplicate files & over the last 5 years had amassed so many inconsistencies by backing up drives and then using that drive on another computer , constantly using search functions to locate songs instead of using proper ITUNES protocol for moving these files around.......
so in this most recent , what i was hoping the final stage of re-organizing my ITUNES and maintaining it properly , all the music is still on the same drive i exported my library xml from .... i just deleted the old library - there were thousands of missing songs that would require a one-at-a - time search so i dropped all the music back into ITUNES making it all available assuming that once i imported my old library that it would all correspond - which it does , minus the ratings .....
like you , i have thousands of songs that utilize that simple little star system as a quick look-see for favorites ..... i just don't understand how it isolates out the ratings on the import - so frustrating ....what i don't have then , are the old library or playlists - i exported them and deleted them clearing the path for a fresh import with all the files freshly dropped into ITUNES.... does that make sense ???

Transfer New Ringtone-Lost iTunes Playlists on iPhone

Hi. I have the latest software on both my iTunes and iPhone 3G(S) and have a problem. I set the phone to NOT sync when plugged into the computer and have the box checked to manage my music files manually. However, every time I add a new ringtone to my phone via iTunes, I lose my phone's playlists on iTunes - NOT my playlists on iTunes, just on the phone. Never used to happen, so don't know why it's happening now.
I just upgraded this morning to the newest software on both, but I don't think it was a gliche in the last ones. Anyone know what maybe is checked or not checked that is causing this to happen? It's really frustrating, so I do not add new ringtones anymore. Thanks for any assistance or suggestions.

While updating through the appstore on my iphone I moved another icon around the screen and then the unit totally resorted all of my icons all over the place.
When I synced (hoping they'd revert to where I preferred each of them to live) nothing changed EXCEPT ringtons UNCHECKED themselves to sync and the option to sync manual audio unchecked.
I didn't notice the last bit until my phone rang and it wasn't my ringtone. I wonder what ELSE changed? Friggin thing.

ITunes Playlist on iPhone

Hello All,
I was in the gym this evening and accidently deleted my "Gym Playlist" which was rather annoying but luckily had some other music to get me through but when I have gone onto my laptop this evening to sync my playlist back onto my phone which i've done before, this has now deleted my playlist on my itunes?
I seriously need this playlist back as it has built up over a number of years and isnt really just my gym playlist. Is there anyway that I can recover this playlist? I have tried re-storing my computer back a few days and even this hasnt worked?

Search the itunes forum for 'smart playlist'; this problem has been discussed a lot.
Short version: turn off live updates, or add 'Playlist is Music' to the rules in the smart playlist, to work around this bug.

ITunes Playlists on iPhone

I've just updated my software on my iPhone 3GS to 3.1.3 and now my playlists and albums on my iPhone play in random order. I've checked on my macbook pro and they play fine on the mac. The playlists appear ok on the iPhone but will not play in the order I created. I've read a few posts and they all refer to smart playlists but these are just normal playlists & as I said even CD's as downloaded won't play in order.... It's unbelievably frustrating!!!!..... Does anyone know a fix pleeeeeeeease?!..

Tap the now playing screen to bring up the additional song controls. Tap the Shuffle control until it turns white (off).

Itunes not syncing playlist properly iphone 5

Has anyone had problems syncing their itunes playlist onto iphone 5?
I'm using the latest iTunes 10.7 to sync with the lates iphone 5 IOS6, but it's only syncing a few songs from each playlist and not the whole playlist!?
Contacted apple support, 1st email, they replied back with a standard message about how to De-authorising itunes then Re-authorising it again etc. I've done all that to no avail. Replied back to Apple support saying it hasn't helped, they then replied back and said:
'Michael, your request for assistance has reached iTunes Store Customer Support, which answers questions about billing, customer accounts, downloading purchases, and iTunes Store content. Although this team does not offer technical support for iPhone, I'm happy to guide you to some Apple resources that should help!'
they have no interest in the fact that there is a glitch in the itunes or iphone 5.

I created a playlist on my iPhone. Now I want to import that playlist to iTunes. It's not automatically synced. Not to mention, when I export the playlist (right click, select export) and then drag that playlist into my iTunes playlist list it's blank... I need help. This should be eaiser than this.

I was having the same problem and after some research online I found this and it worked:
1. Plug your iPhone into iTunes.
2. Right- or ctrl-click on the name of the iPhone playlist you want
3. Select Export...
4. Change the format to XML and save
5. In iTunes go to the menu File>Library>Import Playlist...
6. Find the playlist you'd just saved and... bingo.
If you've changed any of the info on any tracks in your library since creating that original playlist it may have difficulty finding a few of them. If so it will let you know, but you'll get everything else. Good luck!
