Importing ITunes to new computer directly from the Ipod

How do I import my ITunes library to a new computer from my IPod after my old hard drive crashed?

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Apple have designed the iPod deliberately so that the transfer of music is by default one way from iTunes to iPod. The most likely reason is to discourage the use of the iPod for widespread music file sharing. This is a logical step for such a high profile company to take in the current environment. It's especially relevant considering that Apple has to work closely with the music companies to maintain the iTunes Music Store.

  • How can I connect a PC with iTunes to an ipod and make iTunes play podcasts directly from the ipod without synching with iTunes on the PC ?

I predominently use my ipod to listen to my favourite podcasts. I download podcasts onto my Home PC using iTunes and then synch the podcasts onto my ipod again using iTunes. This all works fine.
Occassionally I want to connect my ipod to my Work PC via iTunes and listen to the podcasts by playing them through my Work PC external speakers. I DO NOT want iTunes to synch with my ipod, I just want to access the podcasts on the ipod and play them directly using the iTunes on my Work PC. I used to be able to do this, but have recently had a new replacement PC provided and now when I attach my ipod to the new PC iTunes wants to synchronize, and I can't see the podcasts which I know are on the ipod.
I'm sure that this is an easy one for you experts out there. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Arnold

Just to be clear - I have a new Work PC. My Home PC and ipod synching is all still working fine - it's just connecting the ipod to my new Work PC - and not being able to see and play the podcasts from the ipod - which is the problem that I am trying to overcome. Thx.

  • Itunes to new computer..just the last part!

i consolidated my library, got everything on my ipod, and put it on my new computer successfully.
on the last step, i could not figure out how to get the itunes folder from my ipod to the itunes program. when i tried dragging the files onto eachother, it would not let me. i ended up getting all my music on my clicking "add files to library" through itunes. however, while this did give me all my songs, i do not have my playlists and other information that i really want. could someone please help me out?

Have you opened iTunes and looked at your library and the info in the iTunes main window? Does it all play ok?
If all is well then you can trash the 2 files that are in the folder on your desktop.
Look in HD>User>Music>iTunes and you should see the same 2 files. These came over with your tunes from the other computer. These are the 2 files that iTunes and other programs use to function with iTunes. It is good idea to b/u those 2 files any time you do an upgrade of iTunes or b/u your iTunes. AND don't forget to b/u your iTMS purchases.

  • Switching itunes to new computer without losing the title editing

Im curious if anyone knows a way to switch Itunes songs to a new computer without having a USB port. My old computer i have broken all of them (the reason I got a new computer) and im not sure how to switch my music to the new itunes on the new computer without having to re-edit ALL of my songs. I download all of my music not through I tunes and keep the music in its own folder. Then I just add it to itunes. The issue is I have to edit each song in itunes so the title is correct and only has the song title and not the artist or other stuff in the title. Im worried that if I download Itunes on the new computer and it automatically syncs all my music that ill have to go back and re-edit ALL of the songs. Which took hours to do the first time. I have all my music on the new computer- did it via file sharing across the network. Anyone have any idea on how to do this? I wish I could just hook the ipod up and have them transfer in to itunes so the editing stays.

If you can still access the old computer across your network, you should copy the iTunes database (the iTunes Library.itl file) from old to new.  The metadata that you see in iTunes is a combination of information held within that database and the properties/tags embedded within your media files.  iTunes actually works much better with respect to creating/maintaining backups and transferring your library between computers if you configure it to copy music, etc. into the iTunes Media folder and to organize the files & subfolders within it, so that the library (by default in Windows Vista/7/8 C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes) has this structure:
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "The issue is I have to edit each song in itunes so the title is correct and only has the song title and not the artist or other stuff in the title."  Almost all (legitimate) sources - importing from your own CDs, purchases from the iTunes Store, Amazon, etc. - will always have separate metadata elements for Artist, Song Name, Album and Track No. (and in many cases will also have Album Artist, Disc No., Disc Count, and Track Count.  There are cases where changes you make after importing to iTunes may be overridden for iTunes Store purchases and/or if you subscribe to iTunes Match - this behavior can be disabled by ensuring that these options in Edit > Preferences > Advanced are not selected:
If you change these you will need to restart iTunes for the changes to take effect.

  • HT1751 Just installed itunes on my new computer.  My music is on an external drive.  How do i get newly installed itunes on new computer to recognize the music on the external drive?

I just got a new PC, thank goodness.  All my music is on an external drive (F).  i installed Itunes on my new computer.  Now want to get itunes to recognize all the music on my external drive.  Don't want to put music on new computer, but keep on external drive.  Can anyone help me - thanks

Was the media solely on the external library?  If so, it is likely that iTunes was started at some point with the external drive unaccessible.  Simply point iTunes to the correct library location.  To do this, close iTunes.  Hold <SHIFT> and launch iTunes.  When prompted to find library or create a new one, select the find option and point iTunes to where the iTuneslibrary.itl file is at on your computer (or external drive).

You'll need the help of some sort of third party software such as CopyTrans or Phone to PC.
    Google for other possibilities.

  • HOw to transfer Itunes to new computer so that existing Ipods linked to that account are recognized on new PC

Old PC Windows XP. Now Purchasing a new PC(Windows 7). Will need to transfer existing Itunes account/music/apps to the new PC. Once done, will existing Ipods be recognized on the new PC so that syncing and transfers are not an issue. I know that when I connect  our Ipods to our second PC Iwe have limited options when it comes to syncing/transferring.

As long as you are syncing to the same library you were before then it should be a relatively seamless transition.  To move the entire library:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

  • Is there how to download music directally from the ipod and save them into the ipod's library?

I don't want apps like music download pro, download lite...

For non-iTunes purchased music you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    For iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer

  • Need to import website to new computer

We purchased a new computer, and from the old computer we published our website to a folder thinking I could import it when we got the new computer (the old computer is now gone without grabbing the domain file that some of the posts talk about). Is there any way to get the data from either the archived folder or from our .mac account in order to resynchronize our new Mac?
    Thanks for any help!!

    TroyDon,
Sorry for the bad news about recreating your site. Bear in mind you can drag and drop from current files as you recreate. For future backup, remember that Varkgirl has given us a great little automator app which can be downloaded free here. Use this free application to back up and store your iWeb Domain from now on.
    Emphasis on "free".

  • Hard crashed my G4. Can iPod be UpLoaded to new iTunes on new computer?

Sorry, I was not sure how this discussion board worked. Here is the deal. I hard crashed my 12" G4. It's old about 4 years or so. So, has lots and lots of stuff on it including several hundred dollars of iTunes songs. Some of which are now on my iPod.
I had to buy a PC (i know!) and have installed iTunes. Can I port my tunes UP to the new iTunes from the iPod? I have to wait to get home to take in my PowerBook and see what damage control can do... meanwhile?
Power Book 12" original   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

There are several utilities out there that will allow you to copy songs from your iPod. You just have to make sure that you don't allow your new computer to sync the iPod (or you'll lose all the music on your iPod). If iTunes automatically launches when you connect your iPod, it should give you a warning about using this iPod with this computer (to keep you from accidentally wiping out your data if you connect to a friends computer). If your iPod is set to show up on the desktop, you should be able to get around the iTunes problem.
If you used your iPod with a Mac, it will be formatted with HFS+ (Mac file system) and will be unreadable by a Windows PC (without software to read the Mac file system).
