Importing iWeb site to my computer

Our website was created with iWeb '09 and published to our site via FTP. I need to be able to collaborate and edit the site also. Is it possible to download the site to my computer and import it into my iWeb '09 on my Macbook Pro? Or, is it possible for the original creator of the site to send me the iWeb file for importing to my iWeb? Thanks for any help on this issue.

The original creator should send you the domain file that is, by default, located in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
Make sure the file is given read & write permissions before transfer.
This file can be stored in the default location or a new folder. If the latter, double click the file to launch it in iWeb.

  • How can I transfer JUST ONE IWeb site to another computer?

I am new to making IWeb sites and am now making them for
other people. I have about 10 sites in my IWeb folder and need to
be able to give a person's site to them.
I need to be able to transfer JUST ONE site to another computer.
Right now, I am only able to transfer ALL the sites I have made to
another mac and then, it wipes out all their sites! How can I prevent
the ultimate wipe out of all their iweb sites yet give them JUST ONE
    of mine?
    thank you in advance,
    Beth http://www.yourzensite.com

First, read Wyodor's post about changing the publishing settings HERE.
You can create the extra folders in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb or, as I do, in a folder named iWeb in the Home folder.
Create a folder for each website, give it a suitable name and paste the Domain.sites2 file with all the websites into each.
Open each one in turn, double click the Domain.sites2 file to launch it in iWeb, delete all the sites except the one whose name is the same as the folder name, save and quit.
Now you can launch any site individually in iWeb and sent a copy of the appropriate folder to the client.

  • Importing iWeb site to dreamweaver?

Is it possible to import my iWeb site to dreamweaver? I want to do this because i find that iWeb is too simplistic and i find the options are limited. To be honest all i want to do is put the website on dreamweaver and fiddle around with the HTML code and maybe do a couple of extra things. Anyway is it possible?

Publish the site to a folder and then open the published files in Dreamweaver.

  • Moving iWeb site from one computer to another

    Hello,
I tried looking for an answer to this, but couldn't find one that was specific to this question.
I have iWeb on my computer at home, but I've created a site on a friends computer (using iWeb) and want to add this recently created site to my computer at home. I know I can copy the Domain file, but if I put that into my iWeb folder at home, won't that overwrite all the sites I've already created?
My question is: is there anyway to add a previously created site on a different computer to my existing roster of sites created on my home computer?
    Thanks!
    Blair

    Hi Blair,
You cannot combine all the sites into one Domain file, and you would not want to do this anyway, even if you could; and yes, if you place the other Domain into the same path on your home machine, you will replace the Domain file that is there now.
What you should do to manage both sites/Domains from the same machine is change the default location of the Domain files to a folder structure, and manage the Domain files from there.
Create a couple of folders and name them, "Home Domain" and "Friend's Domain", for example. Place the Domains inside of these folders, and when you want to work on sites within a specific Domain just open the respective folder and double-click on the Domain file inside. iWeb will open and you will see the sites contained in that Domain as you have always seen them.
You will be able to move back and forth between these Domains created on different machines very easily this way.

  • Move iweb site from one computer to different computer?

I have 2 web sites through iWeb on my macbook pro, one mine and one my daughter's. She made hres while we were on vacation (using my laptop). Now that we are home I'd like to move hers to her iMac computer. Is that something easy? I cannot risk losing my site. I suspect there are a million hidden files that will prevent me from doing this?
    thanks

What is in the folder within my iDisk->Web->Sites? Is this back-up of my folder you originally directed me to?
NO!! Your iWeb site is not backed up on your iDisk, what you are looking at here is your website, once published by iWeb.
As with all other data, you should backup the iWeb domain file as part of your regular backup schedule.
Unless it has been changed, the .mac backup does not automatically backup your domain file.

Home > Library > Application Suport > iWeb (just place the Domain file in the iWeb folder and fire up iWeb)

You can't use the iWeb Domain file with anything but iWeb.
You can probably edit published iWeb sites with GoLive and modify and save them. Whether that would make your site more acceptable to IE I have no idea. I don't think GoLive is a simple program. You can probably download a trial from Adobe and play with it and ask questions on the Adobe forums.

  • Opening old iWeb site on new computer?

Publishing your site to a folder is useless for your purposes. You need to transfer the Domain file which created the site to your new machine.

  • How to copy one of my iWeb sites to another computer

I have version 3.0.2 of iWeb.
I created a site for someone else on my computer and now I want to give/transfer that site to another computer that has iWeb.
How do I do this? I read something about all the iWeb files being in the Application Support/iWeb/Domain file, but having never heard of this before, I don't know how to JUST load that SINGLE site and not all of my iWeb sites.
I was hoping that it was/is something as easy as copying and pasting a Word document.
    Help?

Duplicate the domain file that contains all of the sites. Move it to the other computer and open it with iWeb. Select the sites that you don't want and delete them from within iWeb leaving just the one site.

  • Cannot modify iWeb site on different computer

Followed instructions on how to modify iWeb site on a different computer (went into the library->application support->iWeb and copied the "domain" file to the different computer. Opened iWeb = generic site instead of site we created. Double-clicked filename in list = box popped up asking me if I wanted to create a new domain or open an existing one, although it would not let me select the newly copied file from the list (grayed out).
    Any solutions?

I haven't a second computer, but I have multiple users on my computer. They are all me, but my mac doesn't know that.
I copied a domain file to another user account.
As the other user, i double-clicked it to open the file, I could publish (to a folder) but I couldn't save the changes.
It simply is a matter of permissions.
Select the domain file in the Finder and type Cmd-I(nfo). In the info panel change the owner of the file.
    But that is not enough.
The content of the file still has the previous owner's permission set.
Control-Click/Right-click the domain file and choose 'Show package content'.
Display the opended folder in list view and expand all folders. Do that by typing Cmd-A (Select all) and then press Cmd-rightarrow key to expnad the folders.
Do select all again and repeat expand, until the file count stays the same.
Do select all again and type Cmd-Alt-I(nfo) (Alt is also known as Option).
Change the owner to the current user and select read/write from the menu.
The domain file is now yours.

Ty, easily done. Just transfer your Domain.sites file following these instructions. The only difference is you are going from laptop to desktop machine.

  • Import existing iWeb site to newer computer with iWeb (iLife) '09

I have a website I developed on my older Mac using iWeb (iLife '06) and I want to transfer it to my current iMac (Snow Leopard + iLife '09) to use the better tools (for FTP uploading of multiple sites)... I transferred the folders from the original site to my "sites" folder but it doesn't show up when I launch iWeb. HELP!

iWeb stores your website data in a domain located in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
Transfer this file to the equivalent location on your new Mac and then launch iWeb.
Your original file will be Domain.sites. iWeb '09 will then convert it to Domain.sites2.
Make sure you have a backup of the domain file before doing any of this.

  • Importing iWeb files from one computer to another

I have created a new website on my laptop and have my other sites on my desktop and want to transfer the site on my laptop to my desktop. I don't see where we can import files from one computer's files to another computer's files. Is there a way to do this?

    Mark:
You can copy the domain.sites2 file from the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on your laptop to the Desktop of your desktop Mac, rename it to something like "site name.sites2", and put it in the iWeb folder with your other domain.sites2 file.
If you want to merge the sites in the two domain files into one new domain file you can do so with iWebSites.

  • Can I have some iWeb sites on one computer & some on another?

I've been using iWeb to creat both personal and business sites for myself. I've got about six sites and I'd like to control the business ones from my work computer and my personal ones from my home computer. Can I do this? I had copied the files over so that both machines had the same data and I just deleted the personal pages from my work machine. When I went to quit out of iWeb it asked me if I wanted to publish my site which set off a light in my head. Only then did it occur to me that it was going to attempt to republish everyting, this time deleting my personal sites from my .Mac account because this (my work) computer no longer has my personal sites on it. Can someone help? Is there a way to do what I want to do?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Benjamin,
Yes, you can do what you are looking to do, but it will take a little time and effort to get it set up correctly. You are right that publishing from your work machine will delete your personal sites right now, but that can be fixed fairly easily. I'll walk you through the steps here, but I'd also encourage you to read through ApNewbie's domain splitting guide, too. (and be sure to read my notes at the end before starting this process!)
1.) Copy your domain sites file both of your computers and put them in a safe place.
    2) If your iDisk is the desktop of either computer, unmount it.
    3) "Publish All" from your work computer. This will delete your home site, but we'll fix that before we are done.
    4) On your home computer, delete the work sites from iWeb, then "Publish All" from your home computer. This will delete your work site, but we'll fix that, too.
    5) From your work computer, "Publish All" again.
    6) From your home computer, "Publish All" again.
    7) Check your sites from your browser (don't forget to clear the cache before doing so!)
    8) If all is well, you are done; if they still don't all show up, do one more round of "Publish All," and you should be set to go.
    9) From here on out, you should be able to use the regular "Publish to .mac" process
Note that the site that shows up at your "short" url (web.mac.com/username) will be the most recently updated site. If this is an issue for you, there are at least two options:
1)create a one-page site in each domain.sites file (home and work) with links to all your sites. Make sure to give this site a different name in each file. (e.g. "siteindexwork" and "siteindexhome." For an example of a site index, look here.
    2) follow ApNewbie's directions for domain splitting and on each machine create a separate domain.sites file with just a site index and publish anytime you publish one of the other websites. (Note that if you create this index by copying your other file and deleting existing websites in it you need to do another double round of "Publish All" to get everything up and running.)
