Importing  Iweb website back to  my computer

My computer crashed and I lost all my website files
They are on .mac but I would like to get them back on my computer so I can edit them again with Iweb
This seems to be a problem, one can not import a website from .mac to iweb.
What do I do now

I doubt that you will be able to import your site. If you do not have a back up of your domain file the only thing that I know to do is to rebuild from the starting point.
I know that is no consolation but at this point nobody is going to give you a better answer. Sorry!

  • Can you export a published iweb website back into iweb?

I have created my own iweb website which I uploaded to my own domain using transmit. Since creating the page, I had a had drive die on me that I can't access and don't have my site in iweb to edit as I have resorted to a back up made just before I made the site. So I want to know if I can access the site from Transmit and put it back into iweb for editing the site?
This is my first site I have made entirely on my own and have been learning as I go. If I can't access the site as I made it, I may try accessing the files from Transmit one by one to re-make the pages.
Any help on this will me very much appreciated.
This is my site for anyone who wants to see:

Sure, you could syncronize in the opposite direction to get your html files and images, etc back on your Mac. But you will have to drag and drop, copy and paste to get that content back into iWeb.
Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. Sadly, many many people learn this the hard way. Unfortunately, looks like you have too.
I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). Click here to download it or visit http://iweb.varkgirl.com for more info. The app will make a .zip file of your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and save it to a location of your choosing.
Then check out Mozy for an online place to store your backups - I just found this and it seems great. They just recently released a Mac friendly version of their app - it automates the upload and encryption. You select the files you want to backup and it does the rest. You can set it to upload automatically after so many minutes of inactivity or once a day. It does it all in the background so you don't have to worry about it! 2GB of storage are free - plenty of room for most people's iWeb Domain.sites backups!

  • How do I load my website into iWeb after backing up my computer?

I have the site in the "Sites" folder but I can't seem to find a way to reload the content into iWeb to edit it again.
How can I solve this problem?
If you need more information I can try to provide it.

    Cool,
Um so if I didn't backup that file am I screwed? I only took the files in the "Sites" folder and hoped that would be enough.
It wasn't a direct backup my hard drive crashed or whatever and I had to do an emergency backup as I didn't have proper backup due to moving countries and what not. Thats me just being new and not knowing anything about this sort of stuff.
Would be great if there was a way to solve the problem still if not is the best thing to do as see this as an opportunity to reinvent my Website?
    Thanks.

  • Have iweb website created on one computer and now want to move the entire website to a second computer, have iweb website created on one computer and now want to move the entire website to a second computer

I have taken over the administation of our website, created on iWeb on anoher computer, Now have iWEb installed on my computer, have downloaded all files from server. How do I open this files/this website in iWeb? Do I have to download the files into the app? Onto my desktop?
Can anybody help me with this?
    Thanks,
    Sten

The simple answer to this question is that you DON'T and you CAN'T.  You have downloaded html and css files - ie, the published site from your server.  Unfortunately, iWeb has no import facility so is unable to read any html or css files - it's a one way street and iWeb produces all the html and css files upon publishing and that is it.
If you are taking over the admin of the site, you need the previous administrator to give you the domain.sites file - this is the iWeb data file where everthing is stored.  The domain.sites file livers under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
You need to get them to e-mail this file or they can stick it on a flash drive for you or whatever, but it is this file that you need.
If you don't or can't get access to this file, then you'll have to use another programme to update and administer the site - one that has import facilities.  You could use a plain html editor such as Text Wrangler or you could use a programme called Flux 4 that has import facilities.
    Contact the previous administrator.

  • Can i transfer my iweb website to a new computer?

i built a website for my friend, linked to her mobileme account, which i logged into from my computer. Is there any way for me to transfer the web document to her computer so she can maintain it? The only thing I thought to try was to export it to a folder and bluetooth it to her desktop. Is there another place the website lives? Can I literally sync it via mobile me? Thanks for any advice!

    vickchick:
What you need to transfer to the other computer is the Domain.sites2 file that is located in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Put that file in the same folder on the other computer and launch iWeb. That file (acutally an UNIX style package, contains all the elements for publishing the site. That's it.

  • Import songs/video back to computer.

I just had a major problem with my imac and did an erase/install (eventually had to have the board and power source replaced). I couldn't back-up my iTunes library, but I have all my songs and videos still on my ipod. Is there a way to import those medias back onto my computer or am I screwed.

OK. That worked to get the files to my computer, but is there a way to refresh your library instead of going through each file 1 by 1 and double clicking on them?

  • All of my iWeb websites have disappeared, help please!!!

    Someone please help!!
I have created some very complex websites using iWeb that took a lot of time. I turned my mac on yesterday and started iWeb in the same way that I always do and a pop up box came up saying that iWeb couldn't find the domain file. I wasn't sure what this meant at the time and hit cancel and now all of my sites have been wiped from iWeb.
After doing a bit of research I found out about the domain file. I tried to look for it on my Mac but at first it was no where to be seen. To start iWeb again I had to start a new website. It was only after this that a new domain file popped up, but it only had information regarding the new site on.
I have the sites I created published, backed up and saved. So a few questions,
    1. Does anyone know why this has happened?
    2. Is it possible to import my iWeb published websites back into iWeb?
    3. Why is this program so under-developed, it has so much potential?!!? (You don't need to answer that one, just me venting a bit of frustration )

When you say that you have the sites you create "Published, backed up and saved" do you have your domain.sites files backed up and saved?
If not, then you are out of luck. No it is not possible for iWeb to import published websites back into iWeb. iWeb has no import facility and creates html upon publishing.
Your domain files cannot just be deleted like this, especially from iWeb, not unless you physically trash it or delete your sites from your domain file.
All your domain files are stored under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites. Look here and your domain files should be there - be careful to look under your User/Library as iWeb is not found under your System Library.
The only drawback that I can see with iWeb is the inability to import published sites. Anything else that you want to do can be worked around with the use of either html code and the html snippet or javascript code etc.
What you have to remember is that iWeb was originally developed for personal websites and nothing else - people without that much technical knowledge of web design who just wanted to get some kind of good looking site up and published with a few photos etc. This is why .Mac and now MobileMe was created so that you have ease of one click publishing.
Apple have improved it with each subsequent version, by including certain extra features with iWeb 09, however, it is still primarily meant to be for personal sites.
iWeb can be used to make some very good looking business sites too and you don't have to host on MobileMe.
iWeb is due another upgrade soon and there is some speculation that as 2010 was missed out as an upgrade the next version might be iWeb 11, so we'll all just have to wait and see what happens. Perhaps January next year and there are rumours that it was undergoing a complete overhaul.

  • Don't know how to get my iWeb websites to work in Mavericks. Need help!

Trying to put my iWeb websites back on all my user accounts in their iweb folders from dvds' since i upgraded to mavericks. iweb keeps trying to open a brand new iWeb website. I thought if I just put them back in their iweb folders under each user account like I did on snow leopard they would just load when I clicked on the iweb icon but they do not. Please help!

To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Optionsmenu to bring the this window:

  • How do I add a delete website back in to the iWeb Program?

How do I add a delete website back in to the iWeb program?
I still have the files there are stored on the hard drive.

If you deleted the site in iWeb and saved, then your site is lost.
If you have not made a backup of the Domain.sites file before you deleted the site in iWeb, then you have nothing to fall back on.
There is unfortunately no way of importing an existing site into iWeb - it just doesn't work that way.
Your only option then is to cut and paste existing material from your published site back into iWeb.

  • All of the music I imported to my iTunes account on a different computer is gone. It is on my iPad, is there any way to put it back on my computer?

I recently got my computer back from Geek Squad and about three fourths of my iTunes library is gone. All of the music I imported directly to this computer, and all of the music I purchased is here, but most of my library is originally from a family computer. I transferred it to this computer, but since i got it back, iTunes says it can't locate it. We don't have the family computer anymore either.
I do have all the music on my iPad though. Is there any way to transfer it back to my computer?

This makes no sense. It doens't matter where they originated from.
If they were in iTunes on this computer and this backup is of this computer, they are from this computer.
Look in /My Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Music/ folder and see what is there?
