Importing jpg. into idvd slide show

I hope someone may answer this. I create a series of jpgs from raw files all in the same fashion. It is inevitable that all of the jepgs will not be imported. Say out of a file of 52 there will be 7 or 8 that the program says that it does not support the format. It is very frustrating. i go back reprocess those images making sure that everything is as it should be. Can anyone answer this question? Thank-you!

The photos you are trying to use are probably much larger than needed. See: Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html but this probably isn't the reason for your problems.
Recently, I helped another person who was having problems with some of his images and found that the problem image somehow had the resolution set to 1 dpi. When he resaved the images after changing the resolution to 72 dpi they worked.
However, the low (1 dpi) setting DOES NOT appear to be the real problem because when I set some of my images to 1 dpi they worked just fine. My suspicion is that sometimes files get their EXIF metadata data scrambled and can't be read properly.
Try resaving the images making sure the JPEG Baseline (Standard) option is selected in PS.

  • Possible to include camera videos into iDVD Slide Show?

I would like to include the short camera videos with my still pictures in a slide show, is IDVD or iPhoto slide show capable of this.
My nephew used a program (ROXO -I think) on his PC to do what I am attempting on my MAC - can someone tell me if they have been able to do this using Apple's programs.

    Hi Peter,
One question I do have is that if I "assemble" the pictures and movie clips in iMovie, then export them to iDVD..
..What about incorporating that with the Themes and structure that iDVD uses ??
Not sure I understand your question. iMovie is for editing movies (including still images). iDVD is for publishing a DVD using movie and still image assets. iDVD cannot edit any of the imported assets. The themes in iDVD are for setting up menu pages that allow the viewer to control the flow of the movies/still images, e.g. you can set up a button to start a movie, a button to start a slideshow, a button to a submenu with movie chapters.
It's a shame you can't drag'n'drop movies into iDVD like you can picures - Would make iDVD even more useful and powerful.
You do able to drag'n'drop a movie into iDVD, this will add a button on the menu page. It is just not able to "assemble" multiple assets into one long movie, that requires iMovie.

  • Rolling credits in iDVD slide show

I would like to have rolling credits at the end of my iDVD (not iPhoto) slide show, similar to imovie. Not sure how to go about it. Do I need to move the iDVD slide show to iMovie?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

rolling credits.....Do I need to move the iDVD slide show to iMovie?
Yes, only the only iLife product that can make rolling credits is iMovie.
But consider this- build the slideshow in iPhoto (without rolling credits or sound) use "Send to iDVD" to create a QT Movie (just close iDVD) and import the movie into iMovie, add rolling credits, titles, sounds, and then use that movie in iDVD. Ok, it sounds complicated, but it is really efficient compared to building the whole thing in iMovie......

  • Can I create an iDVD slide show and keep the picture resolution high so the pictures will be HDTV quality or near HDTV quality for playback on a DVD player?

How do I create an iDVD slide show that does not compress the photos making them low-res? When I insert the iDVD I have made into a DVD player connected to an HDTV, the playback quality of the pictures are very low.  Is there a way to correct this when creatinf the iDVD?

  • IDVD slide show formatting

I've read conflicting info ... please help!
Max resoulution iDVD slide show for TV use:
    • Image resolution?
    • Image format - TIFF or JPEG?
    • Image size - 720x480 or 640x480 - or larger?
    Thanks,
    John

I'd use jpg since tiff are so large and would put a burden on the encoding process. The size iDVD reduces any image to is 640 x 480 x 72. I just make sure my images are cropped to the 4:3 ratio that's recommended and since my camera produces 4:3 ratio images I don't have much to do but minor edits. So I wouldn't spend a lot of effort cropping and changing resolution. Just makes sure they are in the 4:3 ratio.

  • Importing Images into IDVD for Slidshow

I am at a loss as to what is the best image size, resolution size, etc. when it comes to importing images into IDVD. I usually size my prints
4 x 6 @ 300 dpi.. This looks fine in the slideshow preview. After I burn the dvd and view it, the images lose quality, etc..
    Any help would be appreciated

What you're creating in iPhoto is a movie file that will get cut off in iDVD because of the TV over scan issue. Only stills imported and assembled into a slideshow in iDVD can be scaled to avoid the over scan.
So to get what you want you'll have to import the stills into iDVD from iPhoto and create the slideshow there.
If you have Quicktime Pro you can mask the QT movie with a black mask and cause the iPhoto QT movie to be scaled to the TV safe area. The steps are below. You'll have to experiment with the final sizes to get it exact:
Masking Movies to the TV Safe Area for iDVD
The mask should be 640 x 480 pixels and the movie at approx. 580 x 386 (I arrived at this figure by making a snapshot of the TV save area of an iDVD project with Snapz). You can set this size after you’ve joined it with the mask movie with Quicktime Player Pro.
Import the black mask jpg file into iMovie and and export it as a .mov file at the same length as your movie (there may be a way to not have to create a specific length mask for each movie but I haven't found it. If the times do not match the movie file will be synced to the length of the mask movie).
Open the mask movie in QT Player Pro and then open your regular movie and make it the front window of the two. Now you'll need to run a QT Player AppleScript titled "Merge Movie 1 into Movie 2". You can get it from this Apple site: Quicktime Player Scripts.
Then run the script. You can then run the merged movie to check it out. Your movie will be located in the upper lefthand corner of the window when played.
When you open the Movie Properties window from the Window menu for the combined file you’ll see the following:
Video Track 1: the black mask
Video Track 2 : you movie file
Tween track: Have no idea what this is.
    Sound track: self explanaotry
    Black mask.
To set the size of your movie to the correct size select it in the Properties window and click on Visual Settings pane. Then enter 580 in the first field and hit enter. With the Preserve Aspect Ration box checked the other size will automatically be set.
To center the video track in the center of the mask select the Video Track 2 item and plug in a offset of about: 70 & 45. You'll probably have to play with that to fine tune the centering. Doing the math and subtracting the movie dimensions from the mask dimensions and dividing by two just didn't get it perfectly centered bit with a little eyeballing and trial and error it got there.
Now save as a new self contained movie after checking the High Quality box at the bottom right.
You can now import it into iDVD for preview and burning. One drawback is that you can't invoke the TV save area for a movie in iDVD to check it out. But you can mark it on the monitor screen while viewing a menu or slideshow and then play the movie to see how close you came. I found that the size was still a little under the TV safe area when burned and played on my TV. It may be the difference in normal CRT screens and flat screens, etc.

  • Can any one out there tell me how to insert a zoom tool into my slide show in dreamweaver CS5.5

    Hi there
Can any one out there tell me how to insert a zoom tool into my slide show in dreamweaver CS5.5
My slide show consists of lots of thumb nails of paintings under a large painting.
When the small painting thumb nail is clicked the large painting appears.
I would like to be able to enlarge all areas of the large painting when a zoom tool is placed over areas of the large painting.
    Really appreciate any one help.

  • Major Loss of Sharpness iDVD Slide Show

Sorry if this seems like just a re-hash of the "Loss of Saturation" thread, but wow....what a disappointment. Actually I was shocked at the result of my first DVD created in iDVD. The images are so soft I'd be embarrassed to give this to someone to view. I shot the pics at ISO 200 inside with available light with my Canon PowerShot G5 at next to the highest resolution (Superfine 1600X1200), all images saved as JPEG's, no photo editing done. The images are very sharp in iPhoto.
Would shooting at ISO 100, highest resolution, or saving as TIFF or other format result in sharper images in the finished product or is this just the nature of the beast?
I can certainly try it out myself this weekend but was wondering if anyone else found a way to get sharp, well saturated images in an iDVD slide show.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dale

    Dale,
Since nobody else answered your other question, let me weigh in. It doesn't matter what ISO you shot the images at, if they look right in iPhoto or Photoshop or whatever software you're editing (or not editing) in. In theory the image you see in iPhoto (or iMovie or iDVD) should be what your final image looks like when you burn to DVD and play it on your TV. The problem you'll have is getting the saturations to match since your TV is working off an entirely different set of color and saturation settings than your computer. When I'm editing and working through colors for a DVD slideshow presentation I'll actually connect my powerbook to my TV and edit the photos directly on the television, thus giving me the correct colors (even though they usually look like crap on my Mac, they look right on the TV)
    Hope that helps a little.

  • My photos are sharp but become soft when used in and IDVD slide show.

My photos are sharp but become soft when used in and IDVD slide show. How can I prevent this from happining??

    Hi,
I suggest that you try unchecking both of the crop options - landscape & portrait.
To re-create your situation, I had to check the crop for landscape pictures option.
I prefer to have control over any cropping so I tend to crop each image first before creating the slide show.

  • Pictures in iDVD slide show keep auto adjusting

    Hi,
I'm knew to iDVD. I am a professional photographer and prior to iDVD used another piece of software to create DVD slideshows.
I created my first iDVD slide show, and encountered a weird issue. The only transition I'm using is a dissolve; it seems that at the time the slide show was being rendered, images were somehow being "auto adjusted" for exposure. The images come on the TV, then they automatically adjust for exposure; iDVD attempts to make lighter images dark and darker images lighter. It is annoying. Anyone know how to turn this "auto exposure" adjustment off?
I looked everywhere for help on this issue: I.E. turn off "auto adjust", but to no avail.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply...
Question: How do I turn on or turn off "auto adjust?"
I didn't quit and then restart...
The images are on the higher res side.
but again, where is the "auto adjust" setting located?

  • Trying to import dvd into iDVD,it says Unsupported File Type:Unknown format

    Hi there,
I just had a home movie transferred from vhs to dvd. Now I am trying to import it into iDVD and when i try to the message appears : Unsupported File Type :Unknown format
    Logical Volume Identifier/VIDEO_TS.
I wanted to put the home movie to music (it allowed me to import the song, not the video).
It says the kind of file is UNIX Executable File.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

to do this you would first need to convert the DVD (mpeg 2) to QT so you can import to iDvd which btw involves a quality hit. There are apps out there that can do this at a marginal level ... for example:

  • IDVD Slide Show Playback?

I have developed an iDVD slide show on my iMac. Testing the DVD's I burned on different DVD players I found that the slide show is interrupted between each slide when using a Blue Ray DVD player. The show runs fine on all other DVD players tested. Why is the show being interrupted and what can be done to the slide show to correct this issue before burning another copy?

    Hi
Have no true answer - but suggestions.
Brand of DVD - I use Verbatim
    Type of DVD - I use DVD-R
Burn speed - I set it down to x1 (x4 recommended by many)
Free space on internal hard disk - I never go under 25Gb when doing DVDs

  • Echo when I import movie into iDVD

The move is in Quicktime Export-Quicktime movie - Make Movie Self Contained deselected and then I import it into iDVD. The movie starts with a Voice Over and for the first ten seconds there is a decided echo - actually a parallel thread of speech, "My my name name is is..."
I can't figure out what caused this. Worse, I can't figure out a do over.
I play the Timeline and it is fine.
I continue to play the movie in iDVD and after the ten second glitch, that, too, sounds fine.
I'm desperate. Help will be appreciated.

No, the echo is there in Quicktime.
Well, I THINK I rendered everything out.... I hit Sequence -render all-needs render.
Mixed down the audio? How do I do that?
Thanks for the response, Sasha. I know how a guy in the Atlantic feels when he sees a rope snaking down to him. Thanks.

  • Importing WMV into iDVD - burning these files

Hi, got a number of .wmv files back from my Windows days and would love to import these into iDVD/ burn them on DVD. Any ides how to do this? Is there a tool to convert these files into a Mac version?

Is there a tool to convert these files into a Mac version?
You need to purchase flip4mac, which allows wmv files to be played in Quicktime. Here is the link:
    http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm
Works great for playing these files in Quicktime. Once you have flip4mac installed, right-click on any wmv file, choose 'get info', and go to the 'open with' section and select WMV player instead of windows media player, and click change all so that all of your wmv files will now play with Quicktime by default.
