Importing keyword list from Photoshop CS1 is possible

Amongst all this gloom on a more positive note I thought people might be interested to know that I have successfully managed to import my long keywords list from Photoshop CS1 into the keywords hud. It is fiddly and I'm sure there must be a more graceful way of doing it but I got there in the end.
There are two buttons bottom right of the keyword hud - import and export - for which I have found no documentation in the manual however I tried export and it exported the keyword list as a text document. If you find your Photoshop CS keyword pref file which is by default kept in : user name / library / preferences / Adobe Photoshop CS settings / Keywords.psp, you can open it with text edit. You then have to fiddle around with the formatting which I did by copying it into a word processing app and using find and replace so that I ended up with a tabbed list which followed the same format as the exported aperture text list. I then pasted it into the aperture list and after a bit more fiddling around was then able to use the import button on the hud to bring in my entire list as it appeared in Filebrowser.
Fingers crossed!
Best wishes

  • Can I create "keyword list" from keywords in EXIF data?

Hi - I'm still a Mac and Aperture noob, so please excuse me if the question is dumb or ill-formed...
I used to use Photoshop Elements on a PC. I made pretty extensive use of "tags" (keywords, in Aperture lingo) for categorizing my photos. I wrote all the tags into the exif data of my photos, then copied everything over to Aperture.
Now, when I pull up an existing photo in Aperture browser, I can see the keywords that I already added. Great...but, is there a way to extract all the existing keywords from all my photos, and build a "library" of keywords that I can pick and choose from for tagging future photos?
Alternatively - if I could export a keyword list from Photoshop Elements (in txt or XML format, whatever) is there a way that I can import that into Aperture?
From the reading I've done so far, it seems like I have to manually enter keywords on each photo or do a batch update (and, again, manually enter them). I'd much prefer to have a list of keywords that I can scroll down, then just click to select. Is that asking too much of Aperture?

Welcome to the list and Mac's. Don't woory about your questions, veteran Mac and Aperture users here frequently post dumb and ill-formed questions.

I tried what you described to see what would happen. I opened an image in Preview and added a keyword to it (one I was sure wasn't in my Aperture) saved the file and imported into Aperture. The new keyword was bot in the EXIF data field of the image and in Apertures keyword list.
Are you familiar with the *Keywords HUD* (*Window->Show Keyword HUD*)? If you look there do you see your keywords from your imported images?

There is a way to import and export keywords see *+Exporting and Importing Keyword Lists+* in the +Aperture Users Manual+ (get to it by *Help->Aperture Help*)

  • I can't import keyword list into Aperture

I want to import a big keyword list from last years photo library into this years, but when I export the keyword list from my 2012 library it's greyed out and won't import into my 2013 library. The Aperture help says it should work just fine, any tips on what I / Aperture / Apple are doing wrong here greatly appreciated: I have a big family keyword list which I don't want to have to recreate from scratch!
    Thanks all, James

  • How can I move my keyword list from cs3 bridge into cs5 !

I am tring to move my keyword list from my old vista computer runnung CS3 into
my new windows 7 computer with CS5.

You should not have to do this.  Keywords are stored on the image and should be there on both versions.
If one wants to moove the whole list and not wait for all the files to be re-indexed, it is is user/app data/roaming/adobe/bridge or something close to this.

  • How do i import keyword tags from PSE12?

I have just downloaded PS and LR5 from Adobe CC. I was using Photoshop Elements 12. How can I import my keyword tags from the PSE Organizer. I saved them as .txt files but they will not import because they contain "special characters." What do I do?  Please do not tell me I have to start over... ~

is there a way to import tags from PSE 12
The PSE 12 Organizer and LR 5 use different file formats for exporting and importing keyword hierarchies. PSE uses XML format, while LR 5 uses a tab-separated format.  If you're a programmer or technically minded, you could convert from one to the other using your favorite scripting language.
But the approach suggested by dj_paige can be modified to accomplish what you want without scripting, by copying the keyword hierarchy from the "upgraded" LR catalog that was created from your PSE catalog to your "good" LR catalog:
    1. Make a manual backup of your "good" LR catalog: Lightroom Help | Back up a catalog.
    2. In LR, open the catalog that you created previously by upgrading (converting) the PSE catalog -- you can usually get to that catalog by doing File > Open Recent.
    3. Go to grid view in the Library by doing Window > Library followed by View > Grid (usually you're already in Library grid view, but just in case...)
    4. Make sure the Keyword List panel is showing on the right by doing Window > Panels > Keyword List.
    5. You should see the keyword hierarchy from your PSE catalog.  If you don't, stop and post a screen shot of the entire LR screen.
    6. Do Metadata > Export Keywords to export those keywords as a LR-format text file.
    7. Open your "good" LR catalog by doing File > Open Recent.
    8. Do Metadata > Import Keywords and select the file you exported in step 6.
    9. All the keywords that were exported in step 6 will be added to the current catalog, and there will be duplicate keywords if there were already keywords of the same name in the catalog.  Those new keywords will not be attached to any existing photos in the current catalog.

  • How do I migrate my exhaustive keyword list from my previous version of PS, CS5 to CS6?

I upgraded to PS CS6 and failed to export the exhaustive keyword list I had created by adding personal keywords to the "Controlled Vocabulary Keyword Catalog" I was using in CS5. I thought I'd be able to open my previous version of CS5 to export that catalog, but every attempt to open PS CS5 or the Bridge CS5 defaults to CS6.
I would love to go back and open my previous version to export that catalog rather than trying to recreate it from a new Controlled Vocabulary Keyword Catalog download.
Thank you in advance for any help you may provide.

Thank you for your help, but I found a file called Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml that only contained the default keywords that are contained in the startup version of PS. I didn't find the exhaustive list that I created in CS5 Bridge. Is there another place that I could find that entire list including the heirarchy?
Or is there a way to open the old version of Adobe PS Bridge CS5?
    Thanks Curt Y

  • Problems importing 3D layers from Photoshop

Hi, I am a public school teacher in Australia and we have a site licence for the Adobe Master Collection CS4 at school. I am having some problems importing 3D layers into After Effects from Photoshop.
Firstly, I have a computer in my office with exactly the same software, installed from the same source as the computers in my class room. They are all running Google SketchUp 8, Photoshop Extended CS4 and After Effects CS4.
In my office I am able to export a 3D model from SketchUp using the KMZ format and open it using Photoshop. I can then save the file as a PSD file. I can't attach the file here as it is just over 2mb. When I import it into After Effects using the Photoshop Live 3D option I can rotate the model as normal and the elements appear as shown below.
When I try the exact same exercise in my class room (where the computers are all running exactly the same versions of Photoshop Extended CS4 and After Effects CS4) the model is imported as a 2D image with no ability to rotate or interact with the model. It appears that the camera and controller layers are missing from the timeline as well as the Solids folder from the Project pane as shown below.
I have been trying to figure out the difference for most of the day today and so far I cannot find any reason for this to occur, neither can I find anyone with a similar problem who has solved it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Mr Merrick

PS Live 3D requires hardware acceleration to work properly, that is in terms of OpenGL support being available in Photoshop on the machines in question. If that's not the case, the importer component won't function either as it uses the same routines.

  • Trouble importing keywords/photos from old version of iPhoto

I'm trying to import photos with their ratings & keywords from my old Mac that has iPhoto version 6.0.6. I copied the iPhoto folder from old Mac to Pictures folder in User on new Mac, then imported that folder from new iPhoto. It only imported a fraction of the photos and none of the keywords or ratings came with.
Help and suggestions are most appreciated!

    There's no importing involved.
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
You do not +import it to the new iPhoto+. You simply open the LIbrary with the new iPhoto and that updates it.

  • Issue with Metadata when importing 30K images from Photoshop Elements 7

I'm a new mac user and am moving ~30k images from my PC to my mac. I have photoshop elements 7 that I use on the pc and am moving everything over to Aperture. I maintain all of my organization on the PC using "key words". I made sure to move all of the metadata over to the Mac with the images. However, I would say approx 5,000-10,000 of the images have the wrong Metadata. For example, a key-word "Vacation" is showing up on an image that should say "Christmas". This is just an example and it's creating major issues with my smart albums. The wrong images are in the wrong albums. Help!?!?

    Hi Shellie
Is anyone familiar with PSEDBTOOL? I've been told it will do a good job applying metadata to files inside PSE but I'm afraid to run it and have it screw up my current library.
I'm not familiar with that tool. What I will say is that your caution is well founded. If you do try to run anything like that on the PC side, ensure first that you have a backup of any data that might be modified - and that you (a) know how to restore from the backup in case anything goes pear-shaped and (b) you've actually tested your backup (by doing a restore) and are confident with its integrity.
One other thought has occurred to me since earlier. Let's try a different tool...
      – Locate one of your problematic master files - on the Mac side - as exported from PhotoShop Elephants.
      – Open it in Preview. (It lives in the Applications folder.)
      – Select +Tools > Show Inspector+ (if the Inspector is not already showing from an earlier session).
      – Click on the Inspector icon which resembles a simplified traditional magnifying glass.
That displays the keywords in the file.
How do they compare with your expectations (from PSE)? How do they compare with what's showing in Aperture?
This won't solve the problem, but it might just shed some more light on the problem.

    Gary

  • Importing a logo from photoshop in FC

I can't seem to get a logo that came from photoshop to look correct in FC.
I would like to use it like a bug in the lower right corner. I have tried importing several different ways. It either has a white background that I can't get rid of or looks transparent but looks bad, unreadable.
What is proper way to do this so it it is just my logo over top of the video. Think of network bugs in the corners of the frame.
    Help

I used it as a jpeg, a psd and I think a tiff and it did not have any background.
When I dropped it into the canvas and onto the timeline it was really distorted. It didn't have a background but it didn't look right. The ones that did have a background looked alright, but had the unwanted background.
It did not have any other layers but it did have some layer styles. Drop shadow and something else I can't remember right now. I did render it too, no help.
    Any thoughts?

  • Important contacts list from Outlook Express

I am struggling to figure out how to import our contacts list from Outlook Express into iTunes so that we can then move them onto our new ipad mini.  Whatever step(s) am I missing? Thank you & standing by.......

I can't find any documentation but I want to remember that iTunes doesn't work with outlook express.
if it is an option, you get your contacts on by connecting your device, opening iTUnes, navigating to the 'info' tab (the name did change but basically it's the tab to set up the e-mail, notes, etc that you sync)
If express is an option you'll see it listed as a choice.
If it's not then you can always mail your contacts out of outlook, open that mail on your iPad and save them from there. I had to do it once and I could only figure out how to do it one at a time but there may be a better way.

  • Newbie Importing Vector work from photoshop

A friend of mine asked me to make a design that will be cut out by a laser cutter.
I work faster in Photoshop than Illustrator, so I made the design in photoshop using all vector elements (text and pen tool). From photoshop, I did "save as" and selected .eps and preserve vector data. The eps files look ok when I open them in Illustrator, but the laser cutter store says they are not vector data and they can't use them to cut.
Is there any way to get a usable eps or ai file from my psd files? I would love some help

Just to update the topic. Beth sent me a file.
    You were there Beth
You had it, but just weren't sure what to look for. After releasing the clipping masks there were 3 or 4 of them right around the edge of the artboard. Often when opening a Photoshop-generated PDF these full page masks exist. Because they overlapped each other, after releasing them you only saw the black rectangle. If you had deleted all of those you would have only seen vector paths in Outline Mode and that black rectangle would have been gone.
After that, it was merely a matter of selecting all, fill with black. Then go through the circles you had and make those compound paths by selecting the inner and outer circle, choose Object > Compound Path > Make and finally changing their color.
That's all there was to it.
