Importing keywords from non-Bridge file

I've just received the CS3 Suite. Prior to this, photos, where I work, had keywords added to the XP file preference (right clicking on a photo and choosing preferences). I need a way to get those keywords into Bridge. I've hundreds of photos and know nothing about scripting.

Ginger
I ran a test for you. Started up my old computer that has windows XP OS. Took a photo and added a keyword by right clicking as your previous post outlined. I then looked at photo in Bridge CS3 on old machine. There was no keyword. Copied to flash drive and looked at photo on Vista computer with Bridge CS3. Still no keyword. Ran a search on Vista advanced for keyword on flash drive, and it gave a hit.
So my conclusion is that the keyword is there, but Bridge does not read the XP generated keyword. It will read a keyword generated by same method in Vista. Don't know what else to suggest. Don't have CS4 so do not know it that works or not.
Perhaps with these clues someone else can figure it out.
Good luck

• LR2 and importing keywords from CS3 Bridge

I've just started a 30 day LR trial and need some guidance, please, on successfully importing keywords from CS3 Bridge so that the complete heirarchy survives intact.
I've just imported the keywords to LR2 and found the heirarchy is mostly destroyed.
Also, Bridge allows you put a keyword inside "[ ]" (square brackets) if you want/need that word in the heirarchy but do not want it to be copied to the metadata. After importing to LR2, all the square brackets have gone.
I've imported some photos into LR2 but, when I look at their keywords, all the words which were within square brackets (and so not visible in the metadata in Bridge) are now visible in the metadata in LR2.
Anyone found a solution to this, please? I really don't want to have to re-keyword everything if there's another way.
Thanks, John Walmsley

Is there any way to import keywords from a text file into Aperture to automatically tag images? For example, if I have a spreadsheet with a list of names and numbers can I enter the image numbers in the spreadsheet (on the iPhone) and then import that data to the Aperture album with the images. Kinda like a merge of the data.

• Importing Keywords from Excel into Lightroom (XMP)

My current photo log is in Excel. I'm thinking of moving to Lightroom. Does anyone know if there would be a programmatic way to import keywords from an Excel file, and avoid having to manually apply keywords to each imported image? The data in my Excel file provides a perfect (nearly perfect?) correspondence between keyword and image file name. I know next to nothing about XMP, but I could get some help if I knew this was possible. Thanks!

Garry, try this: Take one image in LR, apply some metadata and use "Metadata > XMP > Export XMP Metadata to File". Examine this xmp file to see what it has to look like.

• How to import data from a text file into a table

Hello,
I need help with importing data from a .csv file with comma delimiter into a table.
I've been struggling to figure out how to use the "Import from Files" wizard in Oracle 10g web-base Enterprise Manager.
I have not been able to find a simple instruction on how to use the Wizard.
I have looked at the Oracle Database Utilities - Overview of Oracle Data Pump and the Help on the "Import: Files" page.
Neither one gave me enough instruction to be able to do the import successfully.
Using the "Import from file" wizard, I created a Directory Object using the Create Directory Object button. I Copied the file from which i needed to import the data into the Operating System Directory i had defined in the Create Directory Object page. I chose "Entire files" for the Import type.
Step 1 of 4 is the "Import:Re-Mapping" page, I have no idea what i need to do on this page. All i know i am not tying to import data that was in one schema into a different schema and I am not importing data that was in one tablespace into a different tablespace and i am not R-Mapping datafiles either. I am importing data from a csv file.
For step 2 of 4, "Import:Options" page, I selected the same directory object i had created.
For step 3 of 4, I entered a job name and a description and selected Start Immediately option.
What i noticed going through the wizard, the wizard never asked into which table do i want to import the data.
I submitted the job and I got ORA-31619 invalid dump file error.
I was sure that the wizard was going to fail when it never asked me into which table do i want to import the data.
I tried to use the "imp" utility in command-line window.
After I entered (imp), i was prompted for the username and the password and then the buffer size as soon as i entered the min buffer size I got the following error and the import was terminated:

Please show me the easiest way to import a text file into a table. How complex could it be to do a simple import into a table using a text file?
We are testing our application against both an Oracle database and a MSSQLServer 2000 database.
I was able to import the data into a table in MSSQLServer database and I can say that anybody with no experience could easily do an export/import in MSSQLServer 2000.
I appreciate if someone could show me how to the import from a file into a table!
Thanks,
Mitra

• How can i import contacts from a csv file to "iCloud Contacts"?

How can I import contacts from a csv file to "iCloud Contacts"?

The only way I know of to import cells from a csv file is by creating a new file. But then you can select the desired cells and copy them to the other file. I just did it to be sure it works.
1. Create the new spreadsheet file via the upload command.
2. Select the cells (table) that you want to move to the other file and press command+C (copy).
3. Close the new file and open the existing file.
4. Select the top/right cell of the area to receive the copied "table" and press commant+V (paste).
I hope this is what you're trying to do!

Hi,
Here are the basic steps needed to read data from excel spreadsheet using the Java Excel API(jExcel API).
jExcel API can read a spreadsheet from a file stored on the local file system or from some input stream, ideally the following should be the steps while reading:
Create a workbook from a file on the local file system, as illustrated in the following code fragment:
import java.io.File;
import java.util.Date;
import jxl.*;
Workbook workbook = Workbook.getWorkbook(new File("test.xls"));
On getting access to the worksheet, once can use the following code piece to access individual sheets. These are zero indexed - the first sheet being 0, the second sheet being 1, and so on. (You can also use the API to retrieve a sheet by name).
Sheet sheet = workbook.getSheet(0);
After getting the sheet, you can retrieve the cell's contents as a string by using the convenience method getContents(). In the example code below, A1 is a text cell, B2 is numerical value and C2 is a date. The contents of these cells may be accessed as follows
Cell a1 = sheet.getCell(0,0);
Cell b2 = sheet.getCell(1,1);
Cell c2 = sheet.getCell(2,1);
String a1 = a1.getContents();
String b2 = b2.getContents();
String c2 = c2.getContents();
// perform operations on strings
However in case we need to access the cell's contents as the exact data type ie. as a numerical value or as a date, then the retrieved Cell must be cast to the correct type and the appropriate methods called. The code piece given below illustrates how JExcelApi may be used to retrieve a genuine java double and java.util.Date object from an Excel spreadsheet. For completeness the label is also cast to it's correct type. The code snippet also illustrates how to verify that cell is of the expected type - this can be useful when performing validations on the spreadsheet for presence of correct datatypes in the spreadsheet.
String a1 = null;
Double b2 = 0;
Date c2 = null;
Cell a1 = sheet.getCell(0,0);
Cell b2 = sheet.getCell(1,1);
Cell c2 = sheet.getCell(2,1);
if (a1.getType() == CellType.LABEL)
LabelCell lc = (LabelCell) a1;
stringa1 = lc.getString();
if (b2.getType() == CellType.NUMBER)
NumberCell nc = (NumberCell) b2;
numberb2 = nc.getValue();
if (c2.getType() == CellType.DATE)
DateCell dc = (DateCell) c2;
datec2 = dc.getDate();
// operate on dates and doubles
It is recommended to, use the close() method (as in the code piece below) when you are done with processing all the cells.This frees up any allocated memory used when reading spreadsheets and is particularly important when reading large spreadsheets.
// Finished - close the workbook and free up memory
workbook.close();
The API class files are availble in the 'jxl.jar', which is available for download.
Regards
Raghu

• Using HTTPService to import data from a XML file

Hello there!
I'm having some problem's with this import... If anyone can
help, I would appreciate it!
I'm using this type of information as data source:
public var dataCollection:ArrayCollection =
new ArrayCollection([
{ id: "P1", name: "Porto", type: "team", children: [
{ id: "R1", name: "Dr Silva", location: "Bloco 1", type:
"member" },
{ id: "R2", name: "Dra Neto", location: "Gabinete", type:
"member"
{ id: "P2", name: "Braga", type: "team", children: [
{ id: "R3", name: "Dr Santos", location: "Bloco 2", type:
"member" },
{ id: "R4", name: "Dra Sonia", location: "Piso 1", type:
"member"
But I want to import it from a XML file like this:

<items>

<children id="R1" name="Dr Silva" location="Bloco 1"
type="member" />
<children id="R2" name="Dra Neto" location="Gabinete"
type="member" />

<children id="R3" name="Dr Santos" location="Bloco 2"
type="member" />
<children id="R4" name="Dra Sonia" location="Piso 1"
type="member" />

</items>
I already import the file, but can not translate the data
into a array collection.
private function initApp():void {
var httpService:HTTPService = new HTTPService();
httpService.url = "dataprovider.xml";
httpService.resultFormat = "e4x";
httpService.addEventListener(FaultEvent.FAULT,
onFaultHttpService);
httpService.addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT,
onResultHttpService);
httpService.send();
private function onFaultHttpService(e:FaultEvent):void
Alert.show("Error reading data file.");
private function onResultHttpService(e:ResultEvent):void
//Convert the xml data to a array collection
Thank you

Hello Peter, and thank you for your reply's.
My problem is that I'm receiving the data from the external
file and I don't know how to get the children in place... I mean, I
also have some data being received form a file that I can convert
into an array collection, but the thing is, that file doesn't have
children structure...
It's something like this:

<items>

</items>
And I solve it with this (don't know if is the best):
private function onResultHttpServiceTask(e:ResultEvent):void
var a:Array = xmlListToObjectArray(e.result.item);
tasks = new ArrayCollection(a);
protected function
xmlListToObjectArray(xmlList:XMLList):Array
var a:Array = new Array();
for each(var xml:XML in xmlList)
var attributes:XMLList = xml.attributes();
var o:Object = new Object();
for each (var attribute:XML in attributes)
var nodeName:String = attribute.name().toString();
var value:*;
value = attribute.toString();
o[nodeName] = value;
a.push(new ObjectProxy(o));
return a;
But when the children "enter in action" I don't know how to
bring them to the array...
This code you send it's preaty much the thing I need, but the
thing is that I don't know how to call the children with data as
e:ResultEvent...
If you can help a bit more, I would really appreciate...
Thank You

I need to import data from a CSV file to an Oracle table. I'd prefer to use either SQL Developer or SQL Plus code.
As an example, my target database is HH910TS2, server is ADDb0001, my dB login is em/em, the Oracle table is AE1 and the CSV file is AECSV.
Any ideas / help ?

And just for clarity, it's good to get your head around some basic concepts...

It does not have any code of it's own (although it may have some "commands" that are SQL Developer specific)
SQL*Plus is another front end (character based rather than GUI) that submits code to the database and displays the results. It also does not have code of it's own although there are SQL*Plus commands for use only in the SQL*Plus environment.
The "code" that you are referring to is either SQL or PL/SQL, so you shouldn't limit yourself to thinking it has to be for SQL Developer or SQL*Plus. There are many front end tools that can all deal with the same SQL and/or PL/SQL code. Focus on the SQL and/or PL/SQL side of your coding and don't concern yourself with limitations of what tool you are using. We often see people on here who don't recognise these differences and then ask why their code isn't working when they've put SQL*Plus commands inside their PL/SQL code. ;)

I can't import photos from a card, file or anything. I get "could not copy a file to the requested location". I have never had this happen before. I use a MacBook Pro

I also have the exact same issue. New IMac, installed LR, imported approximately 900 photos no problem, across the network from a Windows PC. The import stopped when the network connection was lost. Now I cannot import for the same reason "could not copy a file to the requested location". I have plenty of disk space and i have permission to the needed folders. I cannot even import from a folder already on the IMac.

Please have a look at the DIAdem Example to concanate channels. Its delivered with DIAdem.
Examples > Creating Scripts > Scripts > Appending Channels to Each Other
Please use a dataplugin (File -> Text DataPlugin Wizard...) or the csv plugin to load your data.
Greetings

P.S.: The one you have downloaded needs the old Ascii Wizard that is not activated by default in newer DIAdem versions.
If you want to use it anyway:

• Importing data from an .mht file

I would like to import data from a *.mht file. I can open the file in excel and save it as excel but I want to automate this in SSIS. I found a command line tool but it's not doing it correctly but excel does.
Can I do this in VB script in a VB task?
OR is there an odbc provider for the .mht file so I don't need to convert it at all?
Thanks,
Linda

it converts to an excel manually and then can import it just fine. it's a report and the source will only give us an .mht file for importing into our database.
any ideas how to automate converting to excel in VB script or do I have to build an .exe and run it via command line or something?
Thanks
I seriously doubt anyone around here will know how to do this I'm afraid because its nothing to do with SSIS. What I do know is that you can use the Office PIAs to automate many Excel tasks from .Net code so if you can figure out how to do that then you put the code inside a SSIS script task. At that point we may be able to offer some assistance but not until then.
In other words, if you want to programatically open the .mht file in Excel you'd be better advised to get the advice elsewhere I'm afraid.

• Importing Text From A .txt File

Hey guys,
I'm looking for a way to import text from a .txt file but I'm totally lost. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome

Hi Prails
This script is basically what you asked:
#target illustrator
#targetengine main
function copyText(){
var textFile = File.openDialog ("Select the file");
if (! textFile.exists || app.documents.length==0){
return;
textFile.open("r");
var txtContent = textFile.read();
textFile.close();
var doc = app.activeDocument;
var textItem = doc.textFrames.add();
textItem.contents = txtContent
copyText ();
Basically what you need to do is declare the text file, open it, read the content and close it. Then, you create a new text item in the Illustrator document and write the content once catched into the text item.
You could continue to work with the variable "textItem" in my example script if you want to set properties like the size, color of the text, position and so on. Also, if you want, replace the first line of the function var textFile = new File ("~/Desktop/Test.txt"); by var textFile = File.openDialog ("Select the file"); so the scripts opens a dialog to ask you the file you want the copy the content.
Hope to be helped
Best Regards

• Problem importing keywords from bridge

I have a .mrw image that I use Bridge CS3 to add four keywords a,b,c,d. When I view them in Bridge it shows the four keywords checked. I looked at the XMP file with wordpad and see them there as well. When I import the xmp file under Lightroom only keywords a,b & c are shown. I looked at the .xmp file in the imported file location for light room and the d keyword is missing from it as well. I tried this using a .nef image from my nikon and it doesn't seem to have the problem
Has anyone seen this problem before? Any work around?

I've done some more investigation on the problem I've described above. In the xmp for the image I have a keyword written by bridge of "Sandy" with the upper case "S". In the lighroom keyword list I already had "sandy" with the "s" being lower case. The import of the "Sandy" keyword in the xmp file of my image failed. If I removed "sandy" or renamed it "Sandy" in the Lightroom list then "Sandy" imported fine. If I tried adding "Sandy" in addition to "sandy" in the lightroom list I got an error saying that the keyword existed and the add failed. From that test it appears that within Lightroom "Sandy" and "sandy" are the same keyword, but coming in on an import they aren't.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is it normal?

• Importing keywords from stock photography sites

We purchase a lot of images from stock photography sites, such as Shutterstock and iStockphoto.
We have been using a software called QPict to catalogue the images. QPict is no longer supported.
We'd like to shift to Lightroom or possibly Bridge. Is there a way to automatically import the images along with their keywords from those sites?
In QPict, I've had to find an image, go to the site, copy out the keywords and paste along the image in the catalog. Very tedious process, especially that QPict had limitations as to the number of keywords per image that you could import. Took forever just to catalogue a few dozen photos. We have thousands.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. For the life of me, I cannot find any help in Google or any forums I've visited.
Thank you in advance.

Hi
I try to give you few brief answers.
1) I have almost 1000 keywords (including synonyms) and I don't have problems. But at least some previous versions of Lightroom were unusable with controlled vocabularity keyword set which contains something like 11000 keywords. I haven't recently heard any comments about large quantity of keywords. So someone with more experience should comment on that.
2) You can import keyword hierarchy to Lightroom from text file. File should have keywords in tab intented hierarchy, with one keyword in line. If I recollect correctly the file should be in UTF-8 character set (this is important if you have some non ascii characters in keywords). Synonyms are marked with {} and keywords that are not exported with [].
3) Synonyms are written as keywords when images are exported. As far as I know current search tool does not support synonyms (yes, this is weird).
Hope this helps at least a bit.
