Importing large mp3

I am trying to edit down a seminar I recently recorded on a different recorder. So I have to import the mp3 into garageband. The mp3 size is 153.6mb, yes it is almost 3 hours long. Whenever I import this mp3, it appears to import correctly but then only shows up with 22 minutes worth of audio in the GB track. Is there a maximum file size for importing into GB that I am not aware of? OR does any one have any ideas of how I can get the full file imported?

GB3 doubles the limits outlined below:

  • Trouble Importing Large mp3 File

I have a very large mp3 file (extension is .mp3, lower-cased) and I'm trying to import it into GarageBand so I can split it up into multiple files to make multiple podcasts out of it. The file is roughly 500MB and 8.5 hours long. I did not record it (hotel sound recording staff at our conference did) so I don't know what sort of settings were used in saving it as an mp3. It imports into iTunes and plays fine there.
When I try to drag it into a podcast track, GarageBand gives me an "Importing" message for a minute or two and then nothing happens (blank track, file not there). The same thing happens if I try to drag the version that plays fine in iTunes into GarageBand.
What can I do to get my file to a point where I can edit it?
If I need to convert it to something other than an mp3, can you tell me what (free?) software I need to download in order to do so?
    Thank you!

    try the Never-Fail™ conversion method:

  • "filename.aif" is empty! error message when importing long mp3 file

    hello everyone,
I am having issues importing large mp3, and even .aiff files into garageband. when I try to import a file that is around 4 hours long - garageband goes through the process of "importing" "converting" and then right at the end - it gives me this: http://idisk.mac.com/digory.mcginn-Public/GB%20error.png
I have managed to get around the problem by importing the file into iTunes, then using a virtual CD drive - burn the file to "a virtual CD." iTunes will create 78 minute long files to fit each CD, and those can be imported to GB, and put back together.
this is long and convoluted, and I would rather not have to do this.
if you've taken a look at the picture I've posted, you'll notice that the time on the timeline is over five hours. I pulled the tempo of the project all the way do to 40 - to create a longer space - but it does not help.
what is really bothering me is that garageband will, yes will allow me to export the project after I've created a bunch of mp3's that is over 6 hours long - but won't let me import one.
I was hoping there is a way to fix this
thanks so much if someone could help!

  • How do i convert multiple tracks into one large mp3?

how do i convert multiple tracks into one large mp3?

    Hi,
You can use an app such as Audacity or Join Together to create one larger file. If AAC file used instead of mp3, you could use GarageBand.
If you have the original CD, you can join the tracks whilst re importing disc.

  • Cannot import valid MP3 because system says file is empty

    Hello all,
I am trying to import an MP3 recording I did during one of my classes to Garageband. I need to split the file (roughly 300 and some Mb, with a duration of 3 hours and 49 minutes +/-) in two separate files.
However, after adding the file, Garageband says it is improting the file and then, BAM, error message saying that the operation cannot be completed as the file is empty.
Does anyone knows what could be the issue here?
Thank you in advance for your help!
    Tiago

but it is the first time I get that error ("filename.aiff" is empty)
The only difference here is that this specific file is much larger (and longer) than what I usually work with.
This looks like your file is not an MP3 but an aiff file. Is the filename extension set to aiff or mp3?
If it says "mp3" try to change it to "aiff".

  • How can i import an mp3 to a Notification Ringtone under the "Sound Settings"?

how can i import an mp3 to a Notification Ringtone under the "Sound Settings"? (i can do it to "Phone Ringtones" easy, but not Notifactions)

This might work as well and will allow drag and drop of mp3 files. This is written as if the phone is connected to the computer.
In the sd card, check if there is a folder called media. In the media folder verify or create a folder called audio. Within the audio folder create the following folders: alarms, notifications, and ringtones. These should be typed exactly as written. Copy or move the files into the folder you want them in. Disconnect the phone from the computer and let the remount the sd card. Now go into your notification or ringtones list. The files you put into the individual folders should automatically be there.
I know that this works on the Eris and I got the method back when only the eris and droid 1 was available. I just can't remember exactly where I got it. Hopefully it also works for the Droid 1.
    @Ron
    Be nice please.

  • Is there a way to import large XML files into HANA efficiently are their any data services provided to do this?

    1. Is there a way to import large XML files into HANA efficiently?
    2. Will it process it node by node or the entire file at a time?
    3. Are there any data services provided to do this?
This for a project use case i also have an requirement to process bulk XML files, suggest me to accomplish this task

    Hi Patrick,
I am addressing the similar issue. "Getting data from huge XMLs into Hana."
Using Odata services can we handle huge data (i.e create schema/load into Hana) On-the-fly ?
    In my scenario,
I get a folder of different complex XML files which are to be loaded into Hana database.
Then I gotta transform & cleanse the data.
Can I use oData services to transform and cleanse the data ?
If so, how can I create oData services dynamically ?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Alekhya

  • Is the only way to import large amount of data and database objects into a primary database is to shutdown the standby, turn off archive log mode, do the import, then rebuild the standby?

I have a primary database that need to import large amount of data and database objects. 1.) Do I shutdown the standby? 2.) Turn off archive log mode? 3.) Perform the import? 4.) Rebuild the standby? or is there a better way or best practice?

Instead of rebuilding the (whole) standby, you take an incremental (from SCN) backup from the Primary and restore it on the Standby.  That way, if, for example
    a. Only two out of 12 tablespaces are affected by the import, the incremental backup would effectively be only the blocks changed in those two tablespaces (and some other changes in system and undo) {provided that there are no other changes in the other ten tablespaces}
    b. if the size of the import is only 15% of the database, the incremental backup to restore to the standby is small

  • Canon IXUS 950 won't import large AVI files into iPhoto

The new canon Ixus 950 IS wont import large (over 50mb) AVI files in iPhoto, why not?
They sit on the SD card and then sometimes subsequent pics and video's don't upload.
If there are say, 3 x 40mb files they dont upload either... After waiting ages the box pops up, unable to import.
I can individually import the AVI files under 50mb
I also note that the hard drive icon for the camera does not appear on the desktop or the finder so I could not 'drag' them in either...
    Any ideas?
    David

I have a similar problem with importing large AVIs from my Canon A610. iPhoto would import everything else (usually) except the large AVIs, which it claims is unreadable. In this particular case (~470MB file), it plays in QuickTime, I've resaved it using QT (still won't import) and converted it from MJPEG to Cinepak (still won't import). I'm now considering cutting the AVI up into smaller chunks and importing those... but any other options before that?
Misc computer details: Main HD is 120GB with 30 for Boot Camp, 80 remains for Mac OS X, but the iPhoto Library is on an external HD (also 120GB, same model as internal HD except not SATA) formatted to FAT32. Would 10.4.11 make a difference here?

  • RoboHelp freezing when importing large word docs

What are your experiences with RoboHelp for HTML Help when
    importing large Word docs?
Mine seems to stop responding and has to be restarted. Also,
creating PDFs for large docs seems to be a problem.
While I am here, could someone please answer these questions:
    1. Does RoboHelp support conditional inclusion/exclusion and
replacement of text? Where you can use a condition to display one
    text OR another.
    2. Does Robo support Modular Help?
    3. What about automating output generation using batch files?
    Is this possible?
    4. Can PDF outputs be customized using templates?
it looks like Robo offers partial solutions to each of the
above questions but I will like to hear your experiences, as I am
on evaluation the tool with limited time.
    TIA.

  • Can't import some MP3s into Centrale

$Can't import some MP3s into Centrale?I've been using Centrale with my X-Fi for a couple of years and have managed to tag and import 000s of mp3s wothout problem. I recently downloaded 2 series of podcasts from Absoluteradio and despite all attempts, can't import them.
I've double checked the tags - no problem. I can drag the podcasts into Centrale and transfer them directly onto the X-Fi and they play fine.
Whenever I try importing them to the library, all that happens is that the message 'transferring to library' flashes up at the bottom of the Centrale window and the counter at the bottom right very quickly counts up from of 30, 2 of 30 etc.. But the?author, album or tracks never actually get imported.
Any idea what could be different about these podcasts? I've checked properties to make sure they're not protected.
If anyone would like to help me diagnose this, the podcasts are at www.absoluteradio.co.uk - examples are the Baddiel & Skinner and Dave Gorman series.
    Thanks
    David

Try to play a few of them in another player to verify that they are good MP3s. If so, treat them with a tag cleanup program such as MP3 Validator, and then iTunes will usually accept them.

  • Can't import my mp3 file on my computer at work

can't import my mp3 file on my computer at work but the same format will successfully import on my computer at home.  Only difference is that work runs win 7 32 bit and home win7 64 bit.
    can anyone help on this
    regards,
    Aron

iTunes seems to be quite fussy and may refuse to play/add MP3 files other palyers accept.
If you have the CDs you could try resaving them. Also some tag editors claim to have repair abilites. For example this one:
    http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts/
Or there is a repair tool here:
    http://www.drtag.de/en/description_mp3rt.htm
I haven't tried these myself and it is always a good idea to work on copies of files if you are experimenting.

  • Burning a  large mp3, I would like to start on burning vd #4

The electricty went off and left me at 6 of 8

There is nothing in iTunes burning to the effect of "restart where you left off." I don't understand the reference to "large MP3," but if you make more clear what you were doing, there may be a shortcut.

  • Is it possible to successfully import large Entourage databases into Mail?

    Hi:
Perusing lots of threads, it looks like Mail has some issues importing large Entourage databases; my Entourage Identity is about 6 GB.
The most current of the threads I saw was a few months old. Does anyone know if Apple has recently found a way to import these large files successfully, preserving the subfolder hierarchy and getting all of the messages transferred?
The other alternative for me is just to start with Mail fresh and run Entourage in a parallel fashion for half a year or so, until I no longer regularly need to use Entourage, but I'd prefer the more elegant approach.
    Thank you!

Char did the suggested solution work? I suspect not - but if it did please confirm. I've also been trying to import large business use mail databases from entourage 2004 & 2008 into Mail without much luck. In one case it took 12 separate imports because each would fail after successfully importing a few folders. After each fail I needed to logout the user and login again in order for Mail to "find" the entourage mail file again. As a final step I had to reassemble, from the import folders, the previous file structure by drag and drop. Complete pain and the result is questionable no matter how carefully I do this. Without a good import solution we will have to stick with entourage 2008 or upgrade to the new version of Outlook 2011. Disappointing performance from apple Mail on this.
