Importing Library from iMac to MacBook Pro via iPod Touch

Can this be done, easily? If not, what is the easiest way for me to transfer my entire library from an iMac that I shared with my wife to my new MacBook Pro. Not sure if it matters but my old Library was named R. S. Clark and my new one is Randy Clark. Also, I have one movie download on my new computer but nothing else.
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated as I navigated through Apple's support page most of the day today unsuccessfully.
Thanks in advance!

Don't need to use the iPod touch.

  • Managing 1 library from iMac and Macbook Pro....possible with 1.5?

    Hi everyone,
I still haven't firgured out if this is entirely possible with 1.5 or not.
At the moment I (on my iMac) have moved my images out of the Aperture Library and onto an external 500GB USB drive. On the MBP I have imported the images as referenced files.
So, I have all my images appearing in the library of both Macs but I have a sneaky feeling that what I've done is create two libraries rather than sharing the one library between the two machines.
I want to be able to sort/rate images on either machine and have the changes show up on the other machine the next time I run Aperture, is this possible?
Does anybody know how I achieve this?

I do indeed have a solution for this, and it works for both Aperture 1.1.x as well as 1.5.
In terms of my workflow: I have two copies of my Aperture library. The primary copy exists on my MacBook Pro, while the secondary copy exists on my PowerMac G5. I make all changes on my MBP, and then synchronize the library to my PM.
(Notably, the copy on my PowerMac is used for perusing only. Any changes I were to make would be overwritten the next time I synchronize from my MacBook Pro.)
In terms of implementation: I synchronize my library using the 'rsync' command-line utility. For the uninitiated, 'rsync' -- with the appropriate options enabled -- synchronizes a directory hierarchy. It does this by determining which files exist, have changed, etc., and then copies only the differences.
'Rsync' works well, however it is anything but user-friendly. Unless you are an "Uber Geek" like myself, I recommend a third-party graphical synchronization tool.
And finally, a few "gotchas" -- and disclaimers:
    * I only synchronize my library when Aperture is not running on either Mac. Otherwise, problems could occur.
    * I maintain an offline backup of the primary library, via Aperture's Vault feature. (Given that I am not using an officially-sanctioned synchronization method, I do not depend on the secondary copy as a backup. Nor should you.)
    * And finally, I want to stress that this is a one-way synchronization method. Attempting a two-way library synchronization via 'rsync' -- or any synchronization tool for that matter -- may cause irreversible library corruption!
    Comments/questions/concerns are all welcome.
    Cheers,
    -Chris

  • How can I transfer/import iPhotos from iMac to MacBook Pro?

How can I transfer some  photos from iPhoto on iMac Desktop to iPhoto on MacBook Pro?

We're talking some photos? You can export them from iPhoto to a USB flash drive form the iMac and import them into iPhoto on the MBP. That's one way.

  • How to transfer iTunes library from iMac to macbook pro?

i recently got a macbook pro but all of my music is on my imac. how do i transfer the music?

Click on the Music item in the Finder's sidebar. You'll see an iTunes folder inside. Move this to the same location on the other computer via a network, an external drive, or FireWire Target Disk mode as desired.

  • How can I migrate iPhoto library from an old MacBook Pro to a new one?

When the hard drive on my MacBook Pro 13 needed to be wiped clean, I restored all my files from Time Machine except for my iPhoto files. Not sure why my iPhoto library wasn't restored, but it wasn't, and I can't find it on my Time Capsule. I want to move my partial iPhoto library from my old MacBook Pro to my new one. I understand this is possible by linking them in some way. What is that way?

There are three ways; using File Sharing over a network, transferring them via an external drive, or using FireWire Target Disk mode. If you use file sharing, use the AFP protocol. If you use an external drive, it or a partition or disk image on it needs to be formatted as Mac OS Extended.

  • When I try to migrate from imac to macbook pro my user account says this user needs attention before migrating. My e-mail does not migrate in the process. this never happened before i updated to Maverick

When I try to migrate from imac to macbook pro my user account says "this user needs attention before migrating". My e-mail does not migrate in the process. This never happened before I updated to Maverick. I have repaired user permissions but this not make any difference

Just a Follow-up - the migration went fine. The migration did not import Little Snitch, Flip4Mac and DivX, stating they were incompatible.  It also reported that Intego Back up Assistant has improper security setting (which I have not yet investigated).
I am encountering small problems.  Safari would not open embedded pdf documents and instead showed a black screen.  This was fixed with instructions found at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html and it now works fine.
Importing 17 years of old mail from Eudora to Apple Mail was time consuming. mostly because of the pre-migration preening i did, but using Eudora file cleaner before the migrtaion helped a lot.
I amy find some more glitches, but so far everything seems to be working.

  • HT1449 I've transferred my itunes library from PC to Macbook pro running latest itunes and now it will not recognize my iPods (nano 4 and 5th Gen an Ipod touch).  All music is there and playable but will not recognize any devices

I've transferred my itunes library from PC to Macbook pro running latest itunes and now it will not recognize my iPods (nano 4 and 5th Gen an Ipod touch).  All music is there and playable but will not recognize any devices. Help please

The ipod is not a backup/storage device.
You need to copy everything from your old computer to your new one.
The Apple store will do this for you,  you can call apple support and they will help you, you can use google.

I have tried to transfer Mail from iMac to Macbook pro. It isn´t functioning, the program always hang up. Mac OS 10.9.4.

Tried how? Using what? Step-by-step details and the results you get along way should elicit a cogent response.

  • HT3231 Can i migrate keynotes from iMac to Macbook Pro?

Can I migrate Keynotes from iMac to Macbook Pro?

Do you mean the program itself? If so then if it was bought from the Mac App Store just logon to the MAS with the same Apple ID you used when you bought it and redownload and install on the new Mac.
If it was bought on DVD then get that DVD out and install in on the new Mac then run Software Update to bring it up to its most current version.
If you mean the Keynotes you created then just copy them over your LAN from one Mac to the other.

  • Data Migration from iMac to MacBook Pro Issues

    Hello!
I purchased a MacBook Pro and immediately began the data transfer through the Migration Assistant. Twelve hours later, it is at a screen saying "canceling migration", which it has been stuck on for five hours. I shut down my MacBook Pro and the iMac, and attempted to start the process over again. It appears that the data in fact did transfer, so I skipped the step asking me to transfer my data. Now I am at the screen to create my account, and it will not let me choose my full name or account name (due to that account information already being transfered over). That is the only account I would like to use, not any new account. I am unsure how to get around this step, any advice?
    Thanks!

I just bought a MacBook Pro and am trying to use MA to migrate stuff from my iMac (Intel, OSX 10.4.11) to my MacBook Pro (Intel, OSX 10.6.3).
Problem is, every time I try ("from" iMac "to" MacBook Pro), my iMac IDs my MacBook Pro and asks for the passcode, I give it, it then asks for the passcode again, I give it again, then it churns away with the message that it's "looking for other computers". On and on and on and gets stuck in this mode.
I'm using ethernet between the two. Tried wireless also. Same issue. Downloaded the Migration & DVD/CD Sharing Update onto the iMac; it's already on the MacBook Pro. Same problem persists.
Any suggestions? (among the ten zillion firewire cables I have, none fits the MacBook Pro, so haven't tried firewire yet).
    Thanks.

  • Is there a security surveillance system that works with a MacBook Pro or iPod touch?

Is there a security surveillance system that works with a MacBook Pro or iPod Touch?

Problem is most vehicles can't supply enough power to charge a MacBook Pro battery, not without placing a generator in the engine compartment someplace like police cars and campers have.
Apple provides the MagSafe Airline Adapter but it's designed for 15V, not the 12V of vehicles, then it's only to keep the battery from discharging on airplanes, it won't charge it.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB441Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDEwMQ&mco=MTA4NDE2Mjc
"It's designed for 15V DC that you find on airplanes. If you are the DIY type, you can make your own 15V DC automotive socket by using an automotive universal laptop supply to step up the car's 12V to 15V"
    I found this online:
    http://www.365laptop.us/product_info.php?language=en&currency=USD&products_id=10 64
    Notice the device says:
    "Input: 11-14V DC 8Amp MAX "   - Cars are 12V DC.
Output: -DC 15V.... the same as the Airline Adapter
Looks like one needs to cut and splice the two parts/wires one needs together.
This 12V to 15V conversion is a lot better/streamlined than trying to upconvert 12V DC to a whopping 120 AC and then your Mac's power brick is downconverting 120AC to what it needs in DC to try to charge the battery which the vehicle can't supply the wattage for anyway.
Apple has a patent on the MagSafe adapter, they don't provide a 12V to 15V converter + MagSafe adaptor for the car. It would be nice if they did though.

  • No problem with this with my MacBook Pro or ipod Touch. My iphone keeps displaying incorrect password. All software is up to date.

I am unable to sign-in to my iphone4 to make purchases or update apps. There is no problem with my MacBook Pro or ipod Touch when logging in to iTunes or Apple.com. My iphone keeps displaying incorrect password. All software is up to date. This very strange. Any suggestions how to resolve this problem as it is quite frustrating.

    Sig,
Thanks for the advice. I finally tried a solution after doing nothing. LoL. What I did do was change the channel the router was on from 9 to 7. I think I've done something like this in the past when I had slow internet and that worked out well too. I thought that would help and so far so good. Not an interruption so far but we shall see. To the guy or girl who expressed that they had the same problem as me I would try changing the channel of your router like I did. I will monitor the situation and see if it totally solved my problem or not and keep this thread updated. Thanks people

  • One Keychain library on both iMac and MacBook Pro via Dropbox or...?

    Hi guys
I would like to have the same Keychain library on both my Macbook Pro and iMac?
Can I get this done via Dropbox or how can I fix this?
    Thanks!
    Bob

Why do you want to do this (I'm curious)?
I found this article which explains how to copy keychains from one Mac to another.  Keep in mind that this does not sync the keychains; it's only a snapshot of your existing keychain at the time you copy it.   And ... you are on your own doing this, especially if your Macs have different releases of OS X.
