Importing Library to another PC

I just got a new computer for my room but my other computer has my whole itunes library on it. Is there any way I can import my old library onto my new computer or import all of the songs off of my ipod onto my new computer.
Thanks for your help!

Floppy, this link will give you instructions on how to use your iPod to move your music to the new computer. Welcome to discussions!

  • Can't import library from another computer

I used to be able to sync my aperture libraries from my iMac to my MacBook Pro. I just would use the import Library/Project option and it worked perfectly. Now Aperture just hangs when I try to do it and I can't get it to work.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

On the new laptop, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

    Quit iPhoto.
Select the Library in the Finder, click the name,  and edit the name like for any file.

  • How do I import folders from one library to another? My original library has become to large and I want to split it. There is not enough memory to select all the folders I want to move to create a new library.

I also created a new library and tried file-import but cannot see / access any files in the original aperture library with that command.

If you use the Command to Export Project as New Library, then such a Library can be imported into another Library with the command to  Import Library/Project.  The first such export as New Library can be the"seed' Library for starting the process.
But the most important point is there is no performance gain from small Libraries where you think one has become too large, if the new Library is to be on the same disk drive as the original.  My primary library is 1 TB in size, and works as well as tiny test libraries.

  • How do I import one iPhoto library into another?

I have one iPhoto library on my iMac--family photos--and just imported another one from a Mac Mini, which I've called iPhoto (hiking), as it is photos of our hiking trip. I'd like to import everything from the latter into the former, then delete the latter. I tried just dragging the latter in, but instead of merging, it replaced the former. I've fixed that, thanks to Time Machine, but now need to merge my libraries. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Well I'm not sure what you did but no one else has managed to ever import one Library to another without causing a mess as described above - in fact as you describe yourself:
It imported the photos and the thumbnails. All I had to do was delete any duplicates and orginize it.
You also lost any keywords, albums, Faces and Places along the wy. Merging two libraries will not import any thumbnails, there will be no duplicates and you'll have no organising to do.

  • Importing keywords from one iPhoto library to another iPhoto library

I start a new iPhoto library at the beginning of every year. I've made a collection of keywords in the previous years library that I would like to import into the new iPhoto library. I've tried assigning all of the keywords to one picture, exporting it from the old library and importing it to the new library, but it didn't take the keywords with it. Is there anyway to import this keyword list so that I don't have to recreate it?
    Thanks,
    Claire

You're on the right track, but you'll need iPhoto Library Manager to do it. It's the only way to move files from one library to another while maintaining metadata. So, assign all the keywords to one pic, then transfer it to the new library using iPLM. It's a $20 shareware, and all round good app. You can read about it here:

  • How to fix lost connections to original high-resolution pictures in iPhoto and how to import an iPhoto Book from one iPhoto library to another

    Hi there,
I am using a MBP Pro with 8 GB cache and 1 TB HDD from beginning of 2011 with OS X Yosemite and iPhoto version 9.6 (910.29).
I created an iPhoto Book to print which contains my best pictures of 2013 and 2014. Then I got an error message when I wanted to print the book, saying (translated from German):
    Book could not be created.
With photo p233432343.jpg there was an error. The original version of that photo with full resolution could not be found or is damaged. Please replace the photo or delete it from your book.
When I enquired further, I found out, that many, many pictures in my iPhoto library have that problem - only the thumbnail picture is found by iPhoto, but not the one with the high resolution. When looking at the photos in detail one sees that they are not sharp because obviously the photo book only refers to the thumbnail. When I went into the iPhoto Library using Finder, I saw that the original high res photos are still there. As there are an estimated 3000 photos with a lost connection (some still have, it but about 1/2 of my photos don´t), it does not make sense to import those photos manually. This photo book is just the tip of the iceberg, so to say.
Then I looked for solutions in some forums. I had two lPhoto libraries, one on my HDD (120GB) and one on an external HDD (175GB). Assuming there might be problems, I have deleted (moved) the one on my HDD, because the "right one" is the one on my external HDD and started iPHoto again using the alt key. But that did not work either.
I then tried to repair my iPhoto library using iPhoto Library Manager, and merged and rebuilt libraries. The library that came out was crap - all folders that had lost connections to the high resolution pictures now have zero photos in it. Also it is lacking the projects, including the photo book I created.
Then I went to find out if there is a way to import the iphoto book project from the old, corrupt library into the new, repaired library but could not find anything. It can only be exported as a file structure or website. As the file structure is missing the high res pictures, that does not even solve the "little" problem of the photobook.
I would REALLY appreciate your help on the two questions:
1- Can you advise what I need to to do to to get the connection to the high resolution photos established again  ? As it is more than 3000 photos, I use an automated way of reestablishing that connection. Probably an answer to this question would make question 2 irrelevant.
2- Do you know if there is a way to export and import a book project created in iPhoto from one library to another ?

1 - Select  the thumbnail of one of the problem photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option.  This will take you to the folder containing the original file with that file selected by the Finder.
You can also use Find Any File to search for that file (get the file name from the Info pane in iPhoto). You will find the thumbnail version and maybe an edited version also.  Made sure what is found is the large, original version and note were it's located.  Search all of your drives with FAF just in case.
If you don't fine the full sized version then the only recourse is to use a file recovery application like   SubrosaSoft FileSalvage on your drives to see if any of your full sized photos can be recovered.   If you find enough files to make the purchase of the software worthwhile buy it and recover the files.  However, since it may have been quite a while since you discovered the missing originals it seems unlikely you'll be able to recover any due to being overwritten.
2 - book projects are just entries in the library databases and can't be exported to another library.

  • How do I import photos from another iPhoto library?

Hi. I'm trying to consolidate photos from three macbooks into one central iphoto library on a new mac mini. I started by copying the iphoto library of the largest onto the new mac mini and replaced the existing (empty) library on the new mini. All is good - that's one macbook down.
How do I import the photos from the other two though? I attempted to bring them over using File -> Import to Library, but when I navigate to the iphoto libraries of the other macbooks, the iPhoto library itself is greyed out so I can't select it.
I want to import the photos, events, albums, etc.
    Any way to do this?
    Thanks for any assistance.

Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
I want to import the photos, events, albums, etc.
So you want to merge the libraries? The only way to do that is with the paid ($20) version of  iPhoto Library Manager

  • Do I have to be on the internet to import library from one computer to another ?

Do I have to be on the internet to import library from one PC to another ?

What library? Do you mean you iTunes Library? If so, then no, you don't have to be on the Internet. You only have to copy the library to an external disk, then restore it on the other computer.
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
    Also, see:
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Importing one library to another..Help.

    Hi,
I've been using Aperture for a very long time now and generally I'm good are figuring stuff out..For that matter, I have rarely encountered an issue I can't fix myself. Until today.
So I have a library called "Portrait Library", I'm trying to import another library into it. The import process went well, as usual (I've done this many times already) - except this time something I have never seen and is rather problem some has occurred.
When I go to check on the images - I learned I wasn't able to edit them. I see the image in my library in icon view and in full view. However, I noticed something unsual this time in LIST view. List view shows me everything and in this case it shows that I each image had a yellow exclamation mark with a arrow (indicating referenced).
The odd thing is they should be referenced - they should be living inside of the library. I'm not sure what else to do.
    I'd appreciate any input.
    Thanks.

Referenced is "living" outside the Library in another place.  Managed would be in the Library.
Check the following for badge definitions, but sounds like these images are referenced, and the source is not connected, or otherwise not available.

  • How do I move photos from one library to another?

I have moved my 34gig iphoto library from my MBP to an external drive. I have now created a second library on the MBP with the intention of keeping just a smaller selection of my photos in this ready to edit.
Is there an easy way of importing photos from the old library on the external drive to the new one? Do they link up in any way, or, will I need to export a selection from the old library to a new folder on the desktop and then import from there?

To move all the versions, metadata and photos from one Library to another use iPhoto Library Manager.
Exporting from one and then importing to another will not get all the metadata (Faces, for instance) nor will it get the versions.
Another way to achieve what you seem to want to do:
    1. Quit iPhoto.
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the external drive.
Now you have two full copies of the Library. To choose between them: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
    3. On the Internal Library, remove the pics you don't want with you all the time.
Now you have one full library on the external and another smaller sub-set on the Internal.
    A couple of comments:
    a. The external disk needs to be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
b: When you're removing the unwanted pics from the Internal Library you need to delete them in batches of about 100 or so. Trashing more at one time can cause problems with the database.

  • How do I move pictures from one library to another?

How do I move pictures from one library to another?

For just a few export them out of Library A via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original and import them into Library B.
However, this will not include any edits or metadata (keywords, titles, etc.) that you've added.
To get the original image, any edits and all metadata, keywords, titles, descriptions, places, etc., you'll need the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager.  It can copy albums or events from one library to another and keep those items I mentioned earlier with the photos.
