Importing Library with "Illegal" characters-Problem

Importing a large library of images each with own description eg Couple/Dog-#12/3/1.tif
Found problem with / (Forward slash)...Lightroom shows no Preview.
Went to File Handling Tab
Went to Set The Following Characters as Illegal and chose all of them.
But will still not import any image with a Forward Slash.
Short of correcting thousands of images manually I'm at a loss of what to do.
What I don't understand is why they will open in Photoshop but not Lightroom.
Help much appreciated!

In Bridge, go through these files and use Batch Rename to correct these file names. The preset "String Substitution" allows you to search for "/" and replace it with "-", and do the same with the "#".
By using those characters, you were asking for trouble sooner or later. Best to avoid them.

  • Import dump with greek characters

    Hi
    Client had provided us dump file with expdp command. We have imported it with impdp command. However, data contains greek characters. Database charset is same in both source and target database (UTF8).
    Currently it seems such greek characters are not properly installed as import dump gives error for creating index on columns where such data is there as it seems it is not interpreted properly.
    Is it necessary to take care to set export nls_language parameter at the time of import/export? OR can work if specify at import time?
    Please guide on it.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Are you sure they are ???? - a lot of the time it's just because the client isnt displaying it properly - check some of the things i mention here:
    Oracle Database Blog 2.0: Working with non-english characters in linux and oracle
    Also - are you sure the index is 'ok' in the original database - there hasn't been something funny done with novalidate or anything like that?
    can you do a count(*) in the original and a count(distinct) and see if they are the same?

  • Importing music with international characters

    I want to import some old music with international characters in the filenames (and probably id3 tag) into itunes.
    I want to use the music in my car's mp3 reader which uses ms-dos and can't handle international characters. How can I get itunes to sort this for me when I import? can I get tunes to convert the French characters into ms-dos suitable ones?

    Perhaps something at Doug's Scripts this would help, e.g. http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=tracknameeditwithsed although doing it one character at a time might get a little dull. I've not spotted a "replace all non-ascii charcters" script but it shouldn't be too hard to create one.

  • EPMA dimension import issue with spanish characters

    We are using special characters for spanish words, like the word Español.
    When this was imported into EPMA using the Import Profile and importing a flat file, EPMA added the alias member as espan then showed a square box and then the l. Then, when deploying the app, no errors recorded in EPMA but planning showed errors since SQL query could not deal with this strange character (the square box symbol) in its query. When I manually change the member in the dimension library to Español, then the app deploys. So my relational database clearly accepts the characters.
    So, the problem is in the Import of the text file when it has the special character ñ or other spanish characters with the accent marks or tildes. Is there something I need to do when importing a file with this character or other spanish language special characters?
    Thanks

  • How to create imported files with illegal character filenames

    We have mistakenly loaded up a lot of files in Final Cut Server 1.5 with filenames that have illegal or not recommended characters in them i.e.
    10/10/08-Clip1.mov
    FCSvr has created proxys etc but then given the asset a name with colons instead of slashes and can't connect to the original clip. i.e.
    10:10:08-Clip1.mov
    To compound matters, the clip has been saved using ascii representations for colons (%3A) i.e.
    10%3A10%3A08-Clip1.mov
    I've managed to access the database backup using pgAdmin and it looks like these entries are set in the tables pxentity and pxdmvaluestringother.
    I'm quite familiar with SQL etc so can update the values to legal ones and then rename the files the same. Is there anything I should be aware of in doing this?
    Obviously I'll make backups etc before doing it.
    Many Thanks

    Well:
    I would say an easier approach would be to just rename the files at the file system and then re catalog them into FCSvr. I'd stay away from the database if you want to just make this change.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I rename my library with Finder without problems?

    I just realised that my library still has the name I gave it when I was trialing the software. Can I rename this in finder or Aperture simply and without any issues or large exercises emerging?

    You should be able to change it just fine but do realize that you will either have to double click on the new name, use the option key when starting Aperture, or change the Aperture prefs to open the new name.

  • Problem with some characters in complex objects

    Hi all,
    I've built a webservice which returns a complex object with several fields inside. All fields are public and accessable via getter and setter methods.
    The problem is, that some of these fields contains numbers or underscores in their names.
    For example:
    public int field_a;
    or
    public String house3of4;
    When I try to import these webservice as a model in a Web Dynpro project, it doesn't work until I remove these characters.
    Is this a known problem or is there any solution for it?
    Thanks

  • Problems with special characters like "u00F6" "u00E4" "u00FC"

    Hi,
    we currently face some major problems with special characters like "ö" "ä" "ü". First I thought it is a SP02 specific problem but it still doesn't work with SP03.
    When I start an import the import manager shows correct converted value. "ö"s "ä"s "ü"s are displayed correctly. But after I've done the import I look into the Data manager and I see instead of these characters charcaters like "̈". (note: the character should show a little square box - but the forum cannot desplay it)
    How can I solve this problem?
    Regards
    Nico

    Hi Nico
      Just try it out the following steps, hope it solves ur issue.
    <b>To set one or more values back to their original values:</b>
    1. In the Import Manager Source Values grid, select the values that you want to set back to their original values.
    2. Right-click on one of the values and choose Set to Original Value from the context menu, or choose Values > Apply Value Conversion Filter > Set to Original Value from the main menu.
    3. MDME sets each value back to its original value, which appears in black in the Source Values grid.
    <b>NOTE : You can use the Set to Original Value filter only at the value-level and not at the field level.</b>
    thanks

  • Problems with special characters in JSP app

    Hello!
    I am working for a JSP application which uses special characters.
    The database used is a Novell MySQL version, it is fine.
    I use Tomcat, Apache.
    I do not think that the versions are important.
    ON NT:
    The application works fine with special characters.
    Obs: I tried only with Tomcat; I didn't use Apache.
    ON NOVELL:
    If I try to insert some special characters,
    they arrive just fine into the database.
    The problem is when I want to display them.
    I tried with jsp directive to set the charset,
    or with HTML meta tag - no result al all.
    Everytime I use the same work station, and the same browser to do the tests.
    Please help with any ideas.
    Another question, maybe relayed:
    Can I set Tomcat so that when it creates the servlets it uses a custom charset I can indicate?
    THANK YOU!

    The characters I want to use are french characters, e-acute, etc.
    I take the data with request.getParameter, POST method, etc.

  • Problems with Chinese characters

    I have a client experiencing 3 distinct problems with their Chinese-localized Fm files:
    The SimSun TTF font used in the source Fm files is "uninstalling" itself. This requires reinstallation of the font on a regular basis (every few days).
    The colons used in index markers in the Fm source files are not being parsed as Level1IX, Level2IX, etc. in the RoboHelp project. Instead, they are recognized as colons. In other words, the first level marker in Rh is XXXXXXXX:XXXXXXX:XXXXXXX. The same is true for the semicolons.
    The conversion settings for the Chinese project do not allow for mapping to individual CSS elements and classes. This means that all of the formatting is controlled via the supplemental CSS generated from the FrameMaker formatting. IOW, the formatting all uses the class="FM_ definitions.
    Has anyone had success working with Chinese characters in a FrameMaker to RoboHelp workflow (either linking or importing)?
    Anyone else seen any of these issues in Chinese or any other fonts?
    I'm thinking the first two issues are likely due to the TrueType font used, but can't find an Adobe OTF SimSans font to use as a replacement.
    However, the lack of mapping capability in the conversion process is a stumper...perhaps due to the double-byte font itself.
    Any thoughts or solutions are greatly appreciated by my client (whose deadline passed yesterday!)
    -Matt

    I dont think you can print chinese chars at the console on window
    to print the character codes to the console use someting like that
    char [] chars = request.getParameter("whatever").toCharArray()
    for(each chars){
    System.out.println((int)chars);
    then check if you got the corresponding chinese char

  • Using FileReader/Writer with Asian Characters - can you spot my problem?

    Hi,
    I can read in and write out one byte at a time with Asian characters, but if I try to do it one line at a time the Asian output is garbage. I will list both little programs here, and hopefully someone can educate me on my problem.
    +++1st, *this {color:#339966}works fine{color} with Asian characters:*+
    +{color:#000000}import java.io.*;*{color}+
    {color:#000000}class copybyte
    public static void main (String args[]) throws IOException
    if (args.length != 2)
    System.out.println("Usage: java copybyte srcfile dstfile");
    return;
    final boolean DEBUG=true; // switch for ascii display
    int ch; // the buffer{color}
    {color:#000000}// Create streams
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream (args[0]);
    FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream (args[1]);{color}
    {color:#000000}while ((ch = fis.read()) != -1)
    fos.write(ch);
    if (DEBUG)
    System.out.print(ch);
    System.out.println(" "+Character.toString((char)ch));
    fis.close(); fos.close();
    }{color}
    But the following code outputs Asian characters in garbage to my text file:
    {color:#000000}import java.io.;
    // Does not seem to handle Japanese....
    class CopyLineIO
    public static void main (String args[]) throws IOException
    if (args.length != 2)
    System.out.println("Usage: java copyline srcfile dstfile");
    return;
    final boolean STRIP=true; //strip blank lines from file ??
    String buf,temp;
    // Create streams
    FileReader fr = new FileReader (args[0]);
    FileWriter fw = new FileWriter (args[1]);
    BufferedReader br=new BufferedReader(fr); //wrap basic object
    BufferedWriter bw=new BufferedWriter(fw); //wrap basic object
    while ((buf = br.readLine()) != null)
    temp=buf.trim();
    if ((temp.length()>0)||(!STRIP)) {bw.write(buf"\n");}
    br.close(); bw.close();
    fr.close(); fw.close();
    Can anyone advise on what to change in CopyLineIO so that Asian characters work?{color} Thanks!
    PS Sorry about the code formatting - not sure how to get it looking decent here when pasted in....

    [From the documentation|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/io/FileReader.html]:
    Convenience class for reading character files. The constructors of this class assume that the default character encoding and the default byte-buffer size are appropriate. To specify these values yourself, construct an InputStreamReader on a FileInputStream. To post code use { code } // your code here { code } without the spaces or simple select the code and press the CODE button.

  • Missing header files when importing a shared library with labview 8.6?

    Hi all,
    I want to import a .dll into my .vi program but I am not able to do it...
    I have created the dll  following the ni website tutorial
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3303#toc2
    Once the dll has been created, I have tried to import it with
    Tools-Import-Shared Library(dll)
    After parsing the header file appears an error like this one:
    void __cdecl Zdmt(LVBoolean *stop, double P, char channelName[],
        TD1 *errorIn, TD14 *FFTOptions, TD12 *Calibration, char FileName[],
        int32_t minRecordLength, TD26 *InstrumentHandler, LVRefNum sessionRefArray[],
        LVRefNum *queueIN, TD1 *errorOut, LVBoolean *averagingDone,
        HWAVES LastRecordFetched, TD24 *Impedance, TD17 *ColeColeCluster,
        TD18 *FFTcluster, TD5 *InstrumentHandleOutputCluster, LVRefNum *queueOut,
        int32_t *Acquired, TD6 *FreqTimeInfoCluster, double *averagesCompleted,
        int32_t len);
    The following symbols are not defined:
    LVBoolean; int32_t; LVRefNum;
    Undefined symbols can prevent the wizard from recognizing functions and parameters. To correct this problem, check the header file to determine if you must add predefined symbols. Click the Back button to return to the previous page of the wizard to add a preprocessor definitionsl (for example, "NIAPI_stdcall = __stdcall" or "NIAPIDefined = 1").
    The following header file was not found in the specified header file or one of the referenced header files:
    -  extcode.h
    To fix, click the Back button to go to the previous page and add the header file path to the Include Paths list.
    I have replaced the first line #include "extcode.h" of the dll header file for #include "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.6\cintools\extcode.h" that is the full path where the header file is located. However, new libraries seems to be missed:
    -  stdint.h
    -  MacTypes.h
    Does anybody know what I have to do??
    Any help will be really appreciated,
    Regards,
    Benjamin

    If you use any of the LabVIEW cintools headers, they reference other headers too. The import wizard is written in a way that it simply skips parsing datatypes that can not be resolved due to missing header files.  If your functions you want to import references such datatypes then you get an according error about any include files the wizard could not load, otherwise not. The wizard can not know which of the missing header files is the problem since it obviously doesn't know what would be in those header files.
    The LabVIEW cintools headers are multiplatform, meaning they evaluate various compiler predefined defines to determine which platform they are included in. The import library wizard does not define any specific defines, since it is not really a compiler. So you have to define them. And they get adapted with each new LabVIEW version to support new compilers and compiler versions, so the defines described in the link in the first post do not have to be correct for cintools headers in newer LabVIEW versions.
    All in all writing DLLs that interface to LabVIEW cintools headers should not be done by writing them and then importing them using the wizard but instead you should write the VI and create the Call Library Node, then let LabVIEW create a template C file from the context menu of the Call Library Node and copy that into your C sources and fill in the functions from there.

    I have an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes.
    All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem. The movie in question is not 'corrupt' as you can watch it in iMovie direct from the SD card but as soon as you try to import it, it  just says 'error'. iIve tried moving the file to an external drive ( and other variations on this theme) then importing but have had no luck.
    Can anyone please help me.

    The mystery remains....
    Thanks for the pointers. The file type is .mts (a proprietry sony one).
    I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
    The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
    If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.
    Thanks

  • Text fields special characters problem in forms created with ID

    Hi there,
    I'm creating form document with ID.
    The problem with special characters appears after exporting file to interactive pdf.
    When filling up text field, special characters (polish language specials in my case) are replaced by squares.
    I do not know if this is a ID problem (and I should set encoding during pdf creation somehow) or Acrobat/Reader problem (tried both and also in Polish or English versions).
    Some help would be appreciated.

    I am Creative Cloud User and downloaded fresh ID less than 2 hours ago.. And honestly the last thing I would think about was updating.
    But in fact - it was the problem.
    So thank you very much for help!
