Importing LR4 Lirary into LR5

I have LR4 and LR5.
1.How do I transfer the Library (collections, folder, etc.) from LR4 to LR5?
2.Once that is done, how do I import into LR5, the keywords and descriptions as well?
3.Can I also import my LR4 presets to LR5 as well?

If you open an LR4 catalog in LR5, you'll be prompted to update. Everything should transfer.
I need to check, but I think you'll need to uncheck 'Store Presets with Catalog' in LR4 first, before closing the catalog and opening it in Lightroom 5.

  • Cannot import video file into LR5

I'm trying to import a video file (.vob) into LR5 do do some basic editing. When I point LR at the folder it cannot "see" the file and so will not import it.
Does LR look for specific file types? If so which ones?
    Working in win7 64bit  and LR 5.2
Always had great help from user forums so I look forward to hearing from you guys
    thanks

Generally, Lightroom supports video files from DSLR cameras and camcorders. Here is a full list of supported files:

  • Trouble importing photos into LR5 from SONY alpha 7R

After importing .arw photos into LR5, I notice color bars across most of the photos.  After deleting the photo, bars appear on the next photo.  I examined the photos in my camera and no such bars were present.  I tried using 8.3 DNG converter and that didn't work either.

The copies on your disk at this time that Lightroom is accessing are corrupted and are essentially useless. No way to uncorrupt them.
If the images are uncorrupted on the camera card, you could try transferring them to the computer using different hardware (i.e., if you used a card reader, don't use that card reader)
If the images that are on your camera card are corrupted, then you are basically out of luck.

  • Importing into LR5 CC

I am having trouble importing pictures into LR5 CC.  When I select import the card/camera/folder is seen but it will not load the  thumbnails of the images so i can select those i want to import.  LR4 is still installed and this is working fine

Thanks Eartho. The book is an instruction book from Adobe with disc tutorials. So far very helpful and the exercise doing an import using their files worked fine. The Drive also has 500gb avai, able.

  • New LR5 did not import LR4 pictures

I've read several other threads regarding this and none seem to answer a very basic question:
I have thousands upon thousands of pictures in LR4 that did not automatically go into LR5 just now (no import window opened up when I first started the program).
Is there some way I can just get it all done at once?

Okay, found it. There were so many .lrcat files to pick from, but apparently the rest were all backups. It's working now. Thank you for your help, but I had one more question:
Once this is done in a few minutes and I make sure it's all within LR5, is it reasonably safe to get rid of the .lrcat backups and the main one as well?

  • When importing images into LR5 on my laptop, the photos all have a wide yellow streak through them. This only happens on the laptop; I can import the images onto my desktop LR and there isn't the streak of colour.   Can someone help?

When importing images into LR5 on my laptop, the photos all have a wide yellow streak through them. This only happens on the laptop; I can import the images onto my desktop LR and there isn't the streak of colour.   Can someone help?
This is happening even with photos that were taken on another camera, not just mine.  My daughter told me that the laptop recently fell.  The yellow streak is not anywhere else on the laptop, just on the photos in LR.

I have had this problem on my desktop.  I have been attempting to reproduce it where it can be debugged. Here are some observations/facts in my environment--no conclusions:
    1. I do not import from camera or memory stick directly into LR.  I copy all images (using Explorer) from camera to two different locations (backup location first); and then my working area. In both cases, after files are copied I mark them Read-only.
    2. Poor observation, but in any event: the issue has only occurred when I do a large number of images. Its a poor observation as I have no exact number.  I suspect when I do less than 50 always works well every time.  However, I have also done some very large imports without issue.
    3. Error only occurs with my RAW images--for me that's NEF.  I have multiple cameras--those that only capture jpg images have never had an issue in LR.
    4. Even if the file is marked Read Only issues can still occur.  I then remove the image from the disk using LR -- and then manually (Explorer) copy in my backup image -- re import again and all is well.  I think one time I exited LR and replaced the bad file with a backup and restarted LR and all was well again.
    5. When it occurs I have performed a HASH value on the broken file and on the backed up file to determine if the file contents has changed--and each time the file contents has changed.
    6. I have had this occur immediately after import, but most often it occurs like this... import large number of images; Make changes in Development Module on random image, export jpg of changes--exit LR. Open up LR and file is corrupted.
    7. I have had this issue on multiple USB drives ( okay just 2 different drives have been tested ).
What next--fire up Process Monitor and monitor the system (specifically LR) to see if it reports any file open for write access when this occurs.  So, far I have not had process monitor actually running when it occurs--one of these days.

  • My jpg files from CR2 edits in CS6/CC are not being imported into LR5.

My jpg files from CR2 edits in CS6/CC are not being imported into LR5. Bridge and Explorer can see them ok. Tried to reimport but LR5 cant see them.
The file numbers are the same as original CR2 but have the jpg extension. TIFFS and PSDs seem ok. Can anybody help please?

how do I get all these files in my catalogue in the correct places cos they scattered around a bit
That's kind of a broad question ... and there are many different approaches ... so I will explain my approach, and other people can explain their approach.
My approach is to assign keywords and optionally captions and titles and other metadata to all of your photos, and use those to organize and search. Then, it doesn't matter what folders things are located in, if you want to see all your pictures of Chicago, you simply click on the arrow to the far right of the keyword Chicago. You don't have to remember what folders to look in, and this works even if the photos are scattered in a dozen different folders. In addition, since photos must be in one and only one folder, that limits your ability to organize; but you can assign as many keywords as you'd like to a photo, so a single photo can have keywords "Chicago" "Zoo" "Elephant" "Vacation" "Illinois" "United States" etc.

  • How do I import raw CR2 files from camera into LR5? I get an error message

I'm trying to import raw CR2 files from my camera into LR5. I get a message "Files appear to be unsupported or damaged." I know they are not damaged. Does LR5 support raw files? I can do this in Bridge and it converts them to dng files. This would be ideal for me if both could be done in LR5.

Not sure what the problem is if you say the files re recognized in Bridge? You could test the CR2 files by downloading the free Adobe DNG converter - latest version 8.6 (keep your CR2 originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)and then import the DNG’s. It’s an extra step but I use it all the time to batch process into final folders.
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.6
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Can't import .RW2 into LR5

Keep saying preview unavailable when importing .RW2 off of a Panasonic GH4 into LR5. Have tried DNG Converter 8.4 and it doesn't recognize it either?

RAWs from Panasonic GH4 is not supported by Adobe Software at this time. Most likely it will be when the next version of software updates is released.
For now, you have to use Panasonic software to read the photo, convert it to TIF, and then import it into Lightroom.

  • Importing a 2010 process image into LR5

I've just exported as catalog 2 images from an older catalog ( process version 2010 into LR5. there was no way to automatically convert them to 2012 process.
I had to turn on the calibration panel in Develop mode and then set it to 2012 and then copy the 2012 calibration to the other image.
As a check, I checked this by exporting 1 image that was process version 2010 into LR5 and it automatically made it 2013,
Then I checked it again, imported a catalog from LR 4.3 which had only process version 2010 images in. The import upgraded and disgarded the temp library used in the upgrade process, and again, there was no option to automatically convert the images to PV2013.
    See graphic below
Which has to be a dropbox link as the add image is not working in Chrome this morning,
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/39359917/LR5%20image%20from%20PV2010.png

The icon to indicate a previous process version image has been changed and relocated. See the "Thunderbolt" icon underneath the Histogram. Clicking on that will give you the update option.

  • Import adjusted photos from camera raw into Lr5

I like using Bridge to import my photos but also like to use LR5. After I organize and edit in camera raw I want to import (ADD) the adjusted photos into LR5. Problem is the adjustments dont import into LR. The original raw DNG is imported without the fixing that I did. Please help.

In the Camera Raw preferences, make sure you have Save image settings in: set to Sidecar ".xmp" files set. If you don't, then the settings are only saved in the Camera Raw database which Lightroom can't read.

  • Can I import my .xmp adjustments into LR5's catalog?

I have only recently installed LR5.  I have many raw files I have adjusted using ACR and PS CS6.  Is there a way to import those adjustments from the .xmp sidecar files into LR5's catalog?

When you import the photos into Lightroom, the xmp will be read into Lightroom.

  • Lens profiles in LR5 disappeared. How do I transfer them from LR4 into LR5?

Lens profiles in LR5 disappeared. They are still in LR4 and in PS CC. How do I transfer them into LR5?

One possibility: use OneStepDVD function of iDVD that comes with all recent Mac. This will capture from the camera and directly create a DVD with its contents, without any intermediate editing step.
Or you could use iMovie or FCE to capture and edit the movies, and then iDVD to author and burn DVDs.
In any case your camcorder must be connected to your Mac with a firewire connection. If it is too old and it does not have such connection, a possibility is to use an intermediate A/D converter from analog input (received from the camera analog out) to digital output on a firewire link.

in the beginnig it was  working, just after installation and update... now nomore...
    I use .mp4 files
Already tried to use a new catalog, clean caches, and reinstalling
the error says "was not able to import video files"
    thanks

Arghhh! A big thank-you to hhps-photo, you just solved the myth bothering me for the last 2 months!
I recently upgraded to Lightroom 5 from 4 and could not import any video. But when I downgrade to LR4 it worked again. I've tried so many other solutions suggested in the forum but none worked including cleaning cache, install divix plugin, install 32 bit version etc. Finally - it's because I blocked LR5 connecitons in my firewall !!!
So simply allowed LR5 internet connection in my firewall settings and LR5 worked like a charm!
