Importing m4v to iTunes

I recently downloaded a movie and converted it to a m4v in Quictime Pro. When I try to drag/drop it into iTunes nothing happens and the movie does not import. I also tried File--Add File to Library and nothing happened. Any help for this problem?
Thanks

That WON'T convert it.
If I do the same with an MP3 and change the extension to JPG, it DOESN'T make it a picture. It makes it unusable.
Change it back to AVI and download "Handbrake". http://handbrake.fr/
Use HandBrake to "convert" it to M4V.

  • Correct Procedure To Import m4v Into iTunes

Hello, what is the correct procedure to import m4v movie files Into iTunes so that I can watch them on my iPad? Nothing seems to work...

Gee, that makes total sense. Wonder why the fine folks at Toast didn't think of that when selling the concept of making an iTunes export from your MPEG4 (H.264 AVC) video project? Glad I didn't upgrade from 10 because there doesn't seem to be improvement in 11 for this issue.
I'm testing the theory floated here and stated from Apple that in order to be accepted into the "new" iTunes each video has to specifically be coded in QT Player or iMovie to render in multiple formats (iPod, iPhone, iPad screen sizes). I have a number of videos I made (in iMove) that apparently were natively made in this way (in the background). However most video made by others are clearly not (simply in a single format, that's specified). The player product doesn't downconvert is another way of saying it. iTunes will play out to any of their products if the file is accepted into iTunes (e.g., created properly with multiple formats embedded).
If Toast does know this, how many others are there claiming to make compatible uploads that really don't. Seemed like Toast used to be the end-all of compatible (plug and play with Apple and many others) apps.
IMO, if true, this is a shortcoming of the process of using your own videos in iTunes (not a copyright issue) and greatly extends the time needed to import those projects. It actually restricts legal uses to being made in iMovie or converting in QT. Convenient for nobody...

  • Why won't ITunes 10.5 allow me to import m4v's anymore?

Before my computer crashed and was set back to factory settings, I had an older version of Itunes, 7 I think. I regularly converted videos to m4v files that I could then drag and drop into Itunes playlists or a playlist on my IPod. After the crash/repair, I installed Itunes 10.5, but now I cannot import m4v files. ITunes gives the error message "some files, including "(file name)" were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod". By "some", it means "none". I'm doing nothing different than I previously did. Why won't the files go to ITunes or my IPod anymore? Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I am having the same problem with a a new iMac running Mountain Lion.
However, I was able to add a .m4v just fine.  Could it be that iTunes no long accepts .mov's?!  Ridiculous!

  • Since updating iTunes and Mavericks, every time I import m4v files into iTunes it renames all the files to "Avidemux". what's gone wrong?

Since updating iTunes and Mavericks, every time I import m4v files into iTunes it re-names all the files to "Avidemux". what's gone wrong?

(By the way, would I need to use also the red and white phono cables also to get sound?)
Yes, S-video cables do not carry sound.
When you import 16:9 into DV Widescreen, make sure that you have UNchecked 'automatic letterboxing'.
In Preferences, is the project set to the correct standard?
    29.95 fps = NTSC
    25 fps = PAL.
BTW, this is actually the iMovie 5 forum, but no matter!

  • Can't import movies to iTunes after setting up iTunes Match

Hi.  I setup iTunes Match a couple of weeks ago (love it, btw), but for some reason since I set it up I can no longer import .m4v files into the Movies library. There is no error, they just never copy over.
    iTunes 10.6.1(7) 64-bit on MacPro running OS X 10.7.3
Any ideas? Maybe its a strange coincidence, but I noticed the problem shortly after setting up Match.

Also, iTunes match gets stuck sometimes so you have to log out of match and log back in before your imported movies show up in your iTunes library.

  • Can import videos to itunes but have no sound when on ipod

I have been at my wit's end trying to get my new ipod to work. I have some videos I have been trying to put on my ipod. I can import them into itunes fine, they play perfectly, but then when I convert them to ipod format, using itunes, they come out without any sound. It is saving them as .m4v, i have tried playing them in itunes and quicktime but neither of them play the sound.

Dont worry, I found a handy little tool that I think anyone who has any problems with ipod video should try. Its in Japanese, but just set the language to english, its pretty obvious. http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=3GP_Converter

  • How to import video into iTunes?

This may be obvious to some but for the life of me I can't find out how to do it. Perhaps someone can give me a hand. The Apple documentation is incredibly vague about this topic.
I have some video files (in .wmv format, but I have a converter that can convert to other formats). I want to import them into iTunes so that I can play them on an iTouch. It shouldn't be rocket science but I can't find precise instructions on how to do it. I have the latest iTunes and OS 3.1.2 for the iTouch.
    Thanks for any help.

Well with some help from a co-worker and some experimentation I finally managed to load video onto iTunes. Apparently only files of the type .mp4 and .m4v (maybe .mov also?) will work. You have to open the "Movies" panel from the "Library" tab and then drag the files over there. Try dragging any other kinds of file and iTunes will just ignore you. Is it really so hard for Apple to describe that simple procedure in Help?

  • Can't import music to iTunes

This is something that recently started happening. I record a radio show with Audio Hijack pro. I import it to iTunes and it plays fine. I then find a small selection that I'd like to edit and keep. I open Fission and do my editing and save it. It saves under the name I assign it. I try to import the new file to iTunes and it doesn't load in to iTunes because the tag is still the same as the original file. I found this out when I used Finder to "Get Info." I changed the tagged name of the original file that is still residing in iTunes and then tried importing the new file to iTunes again. No go. I then double clicked the file in Finder to get it to play in iTunes. It played, but strangely enough, it didn't appear in the Music Library, but it did appear in the "Recently Added" section of the iTunes window. I used that appearance to change the Tags completely. I checked the "Music Library" after that, but the selection still did not appear. I tried dragging it from "Recently Added" to the Library, but it didn't work. I also tried dragging it to my iPod, but that didn't appear to work either.
I then tried a work-around and created a playlist with that selection and another selection and dragged that playlist over to the 'pod. The selection appeared on the 'pod, but only within the playlist, not the 'pods music library. I could play the new selection only via the playlist. It is still invisible to iTunes.
Does anyone have any idea why this should be? Am I missing a step in in the editing process? Could this be tag related and is there a way to edit the tags prior to importing to iTunes?

I too was having this problem, importing files to my iTunes.  These were songs that I had on CD and had ripped.  The first problem was that they were in .WAV format.  I converted the files to .m4a (I also tried .mp3) and I still couldn't import.  I put the files in a folder named after the album, nested in another folder named after the band in the iTunes/iTunes Media/Music folder.  (For example, The Doors/L.A. Woman) but then when I went to import the files into my iTunes library, like the above poster, absolutely nothing would happen, no error messages or anything.  But I noticed the folders I had previous created, The Doors/ L.A. Woman, where gone.  Finally I realized that because my files were not tagged with the Artist or Album iTunes was moving the files to a folder called Unknown Artist/Unknown Album, under the iTunes/iTunes Media/Music folder.  Unknown Artist doesn't show up in the iTunes artist list.
What I did to fix this, was to play the song, in iTunes, right click on it and select "get info".  Once the song is tagged properly with the Artist and Album, it will show up in the iTunes library AND it will actually create folders with the Artist and Album, on your hard drive, under iTunes/iTunes Media/Music AND move the song to this folder.  There's probably a lot of other ways to tag the files, such as from the Recently Added playlist, by making a new playlist for the album or external software.  I hope this helps someone from stratching their head as much as I was!

  • Can't import songs into itunes library...

For some reason it isn't working. I took a couple of songs off my ipod via ephpod and i tried opening them using the import function in itunes. I open it, but the songs aren't added into the library at all. Maybe it might be the file format? Anyone have anyway to convert the songs into the accepted format?

    Yep,
I have been having the exact same problem now for over a year. First, it was like six hundred songs--wouldnt play on my ipod and then wouldnt add into my itunes library. It happened to correspond with an update of itunes and the ipod firmware. It has only gotten worse and now I am in fear of updating anything further. I have been looking for answers to this problem for a long time, if you happen to get an answer that works would you let me know about it too?
    Thanks!

  • Can't Import Songs To iTunes Using Apple Lossless Encoder

I have about 4,000 songs in FLAC format (which is a lossless format) on my external hard drive. I want to import them into iTunes using the Apple Lossless Encoder. I called Apple support and asked them how to do this, and they told me to go under "Preferences" in iTunes and chose to import using Apple Lossless Encoder.
I did this using Preferences>General>Import Settings, and then went to File>Add Folder to Library, however, it still imported my songs as AAC Audio Files. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

iTunes cannot read nor import FLAC files - not without third-party plugins, anyway, and I don't know of any that will allow iTunes to convert a FLAC file to another format - so I'm a bit confused as to the procedure you're following. If all you're doing is using the Add to Library command and choosing the FLAC files, it's quite possible that iTunes is misinterpreting the format and adding what is in reality an invalid link with erroneous format information.
If you have some sort of third-party plugin for FLAC for iTunes, please post that information and perhaps someone here can determine whether iTunes can do a conversion successfully.

  • Can't import videos to iTunes!??

I've been trying to import videos to itunes and for some reason they just won't go in! I have tried dvdrips and already converted to mp4 files on my harddrive, i've even downloaded the sample movie from the apple website to try and import that.
When i go to import in the fille menu, find the file and click choose absolutely nothing happens. the finder window closes and thats it. the same happens for add to library function. i have the most up to date version of itunes and my brother has the same mac ipod and itunes version and can do it just fine exactly the same way as i am trying. pretty frustrating can anyone help?? pleases?

Have you tried using the Finder? Just drag the video files onto Library in the sidebar. iTunes can be unresponsive - don't drop the files until Library (or Movies) turns blue and you see a green dot with a plus sign on your cursor.
Once your movies are in iTunes, you can convert them to iPod format. Select the movie under Movies, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to iPod.

  • Can't import CD into ITunes - Windows 7 error

Tried to import CD into Itunes on VAIO laptop, using Windows 7. Get the following message "Itunes has stopped working. Windows is looking for a solution. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Have no problem importing on another computer using Windows 2000. Very frustrating. Any suggestions?

First we should check the precise version number of your iTunes. In iTunes, go "Help > About iTunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
Do you have a version 10.1.0.54 ? If so, upgrade to a higher version as per the following document:

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
