Importing mac .pict files?

Hi All,
I am moving a bunch of old mac .pict files to my vista machine using LR2. At least i'd like to. I see no documentation about .pict files and think I am out of luck.
Has anyone dealt with this before and is there an elegant or easy solution?
thanks in advance.

LR only supports raw files, psd, tiff or jpeg for still images.
Has anyone dealt with this before and is there an elegant or easy solution?
Convert them to a more standard format such as tiff. It is trivial to write a little automator action on your mac that will do that in one swoop.

  • QuickTime on Windows Mac PICT File Text display doesn't work

There is a problem in QuickTime for Windows, which was there with version 6, and still exists in version 7. I have a Macintosh format PICT file, generated in Illustrator, that contains text and graphics. The text is in Arial font of a particular size. Viewing this PICT file on Windows within the QuickTime Player AND the QuickTime PictViewer, the font is scaled far larger than it is in the Mac version, to the point of going way outside a rectangle drawn around the text.
When this same PICT file is imported into Excel or Word on Windows, the text aligns and displays correctly, and at the correct size.
I am a software developer, and I have run PICTS through Quicktime programmatically, and there seems to be a real problem with text handling.
Anyone else seen this? Any ideas?

Let me also clarify this by saying that the font I am using exists both on Windows and Mac platforms.

  • Can I import Mac alias files into Premiere Pro CC?

I am trying to keep my folder structure clean and organized, and am using alias files to gather miscellaneous B-roll video files into a new project folder without removing them from their permenant location and without creating duplicates. Alias files on a mac are basically shortcuts to the original file. FCP 7 and FCP X will import these alias files with no problems, but when I try to import them into Premiere Pro, it says they are unsupported file types. Is there any way to make this work?

Thanks, I was prepared to hear that I would have to make a copy. One note though, is that when i import the alias file into a Final Cut Pro project, it automatically links to the original permanent file location, so if the alias gets deleted, it doesn't matter becuase it is linked to the original.
To answer your question, though, the idea for using alias files is to keep the server clean, so that multiple video editors don't keep copying the same files multiple times into their project folders when they start a new project, and then no one goes back and cleans it up, so you end up with Terabytes of duplicate files on the server. I guess the other option is to train everyone to hunt for the original files themselves and import from that location instead of their own project folders.

  • Problem exporting as a Pict file in CS5

I need to export a file in Pict file mode and I know Photoshop CS5 discontinued that format. Does anybody knows what could be a good replacement. I need to import the Pict file in DVD Studio Pro to use as an overlay for a menu. Thank you!!

Are you certain of this need? I don't remember ever using PICT in any Final Cut Studio app. PICT is sooo last century.
There's a long list of available formats:

I've always had success with PSD without any live layer effects.

  • I have a huge amount of songs on my Mac in files that aren't in iTunes.  what is the best method to import them all into iTunes easily?

When I got my 1st MacBook Pro I was coming to the Mac world from a PC.  When importing all the files from my PC to Mac the files got scattered bad, and now I am faced with the dubious task of getting my music library all into iTunes so I can organize and then burn them or sync to our iPads and iPhones.  Can anybody lend a hanf on how to complete this enormous task efficiently?  All assistance is very much appreciated.

Drag and drop the files form the Finder into iTunes. Another way is to select 'Add to Library' from the iTunes file menu - then follow the dialog to locate the files you want to add.
Before doing that - go to iTunes prefs>Advanced - enable the copy and keep options. iTunes will do all the heavy work for you.
Once the tunes are added to the iTunes Library then you can delete the files from their original location.

  • [JS - CS3 - Mac OS] XML import preferences: xslt file issue...

    Hi,
I know there's a bug on Mac about this, does anybody knows if is there another way to do it?
I'm importing an XML file and I need to transform it with an XSLT stylesheet.
    Here's the code:
    var xmlFile = new File("/User/Desktop/product.xml");
    var xsltFile = new File("/User/Desktop/stylesheet.xsl");
    with(app.activeDocument.xmlImportPreferences){
         transformFilename = xsltFile;
    myNode.importXML(xmlFile);
Pretty simple but ID is missing my xsl file...
I'm really bored about this, hope there's an alternative solution...
    Thanks anticipately.

    Hi Thomas
I've learnt a lot since my last posting, so thanks for putting me on the right track then.
I have actually tried what you suggested. I had the same problem with the XML file path when it was hard coded. The object being that I just wanted to replace a static xml doc.
Where I've got      set xmlpath to choose file with prompt "Select the XML"
i also had             set xsltpath to choose file with prompt "Select the XSLT"
log xsltpath --(this throws the value of xsltpath in to the results pane of AS)
It still didn't work. It showed the correct path to the file but still failed when run through the script. Bizzare!
The only other thing that I could try is to just define xsltpath as "CWtoINDDElements.xsl", due to the fact that I've told InDesign that I'm getting the XML from the same folder in the 'choose' function.
I'm not connecting to my work VPN at 11.50pm, so I'll try again in the morning.
Thanks Thomas. It's great to bounce ideas around.
    Best, Andrew

  • How can I import iPhone Garageband Files to Mac Garageband?

How can I import iPhone Garageband Files to Mac Garageband? I've found lots of threads about this but no direct answers/how to.
    Thanks

With the latest build of GarageBand on the device, move to the My Songs view, tap the Edit button at top right, select the shaking song you want to export, then tap the sharing arrow symbol at top left, tap iTunes, then GarageBand.
Connect the device to iTunes, select it in the left-hand column, then select the Apps tab. You should find the exported file in the File Sharing area of the GarageBand app and from there you can copy it to your computer, then open it with the GarageBand application.

  • Importing Still Frame .pict file comes in slightly squished...

...with thin vertical black bars on the sides.
I "save frame" as a pict file, edit the file in Photoshop without any resizing done to the file, save it into my iPhoto library as a pict file, import the file into iMovie with the Ken Burns effect TURNED OFF, and the frame appears to be slightly squished horizontally with a thin black vertical bar appearing on the right side of the frame.
This worked just fine in iMovie 3.0 as I ran several tests last year to see if this project of mine was going to work but now in iMovie HD 6.0........AAAARRRGGGHHHHH!!
And also, somewhat unrelated, why can't iMovie save an exact clean frame when using "create still frame"?
Any thoughts and help is GREATLY appreciated!

I don't quite remember what your original goal was but anyway:
If you want to manipulate a video frame in Photoshop:
Export the clips as Full Quality DV from iMovie.
Open the .dv with QT Player and Edit/Copy the desired frame.
In Photoshop File/New... should propose 720x480 (NTSC). Then Edit/Paste... and manipulate the image. Then flatten the image and Save as TIF.
Open the .tif with QT Player. Do Edit/Copy. Then do Edit/Paste so many times that you reach the desired duration (2 seconds, for example).
Then choose File/Export.../Movie to DV stream/DV, NTSC, 16:9.
    Import the .dv to iMovie.
The colors seemed to pefectly match the original video clip's colors. I didn't touch the default color profiles at all.
One great benefit of that method is that no scaling is needed so every (unedited) pixel stays the same with no distortion. Of course you can set Photoshop to display the rectangular pixels as sqaure pixel aspect ratio (for 4:3 it is 4320:4739 ~0.9116 and for 16:9 it is (4320:4739)*(4/3) ~1.215).
Oh, no I remember where I got 875: It is (4320:4739)(4/3)720.

  • Is it possible to import MS Outlook Mail for MAC 2011 files into AppleMail?

Is it possible to import MS Outlook Mail for MAC 2011 files into AppleMail?

    Yes and no.
Outlook for Windows (or Mac) can save individual emails as .msg format, Apple Mail cannot import these but there is a utility that can convert them to the .eml format supported by Apple Mail.
    See http://45rpmsoftware.com/mailraider.php
Outlook for Windows can also export entire folders of emails as PST files, again Apple Mail cannot import these but there are utilities which can convert PST files to the mbox format supported by Apple Mail.

  • When i import H264 .mov files the audio slows down. MAC

I have a mac, running Mavericks OSX and i'm using Premiere CC.
When I import a .mov file with h264 encoding the audio plays back very slowly.
I know that Premiere can't handle h264 in an avi wrapper or so it has been said in old forums, but these are .mov files.  How has this been an issue since CS 3 and it hasn't been fixed?
I would expect an import setting could be changed to fix this but i can't seem to find any import settings.
other than transcode everything again, is there an easy fix for this?
    Thank you for your help.

Are these files MPEG compressed files? iMovie can not deal with the multiplexed audio of those files. For suggestions on how to get them right start here...

And if your files are not MPEGs, some of the suggestions on that page may still do what you need done.

  • I'm trying to import contacts from Outlook to mac address book. I've exported as a CSV but when i try to open with the Address book import tool, the file is greyed out and can't be imported

I'm trying to import contacts from Outlook to Mac address book. I've exported as a CSV but when I try to open with the Address book import tool, the file is greyed out and can't be imported. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Ian

If you can't get the exported .csv file to work you might consider using Migration Assistant: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2518, particular if you need to move more than just your contacts.  There is some granularity in the options on what to transfer but I'm not sure if you can choose to just your migrate contacts.

  • Importing a pst file into Outlook for Mac

As soon as I start importing a pst file (from Outlook 2003) into Outlook for Mac 2011 I receive the following message in a pop-up window:  "Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close."
Can anyone advise what I should do next.  This is the only hassle I've had in migrating from MS to Mac.
    Thank you!

There is a Office for Mac Product Forums I'd recommend posting there because they have more experience with Microsoft products than most do on this forum.

  • I would like to import the .abcdp files from my old, restored HD (was running mountain lion when the mac crashed) to the addressbook of my new mac (10.9.5)

I would like to import the .abcdp files from my old, restored HD (was running mountain lion when the mac crashed) to the addressbook of my new mac (10.9.5).
    Please advise.

I don't have access to one.
I don't understand why the new address book is not backwards compatible with the data from former OS X versions.
In 10.8. preview was still able to read the files although it was already impossible to import them into the address book. But Why?

  • How do I import a cdv file in to mac mail

I am needing to immport a csv file in to mac mail. what are the steps involved?

    Hello, MashaHalpern.
Here are the steps on how to import CSV files to Contacts.
Import contacts from other file types
Import contact information saved or exported from other apps. The files can be in LDAP Interchange Format (LDIF) or text format (tab-delimited or comma-separated value (CSV)).
If you’re importing a tab-delimited or CSV file, make sure it’s formatted correctly using a text editor such as TextEdit.
Remove any line breaks within a contact’s information.
Make sure that fields in a tab-delimited file are separated by a tab, instead of by another character. Don’t include spaces before or after tabs.
Make sure that fields in a CSV file are separated by a comma, instead of by another character. Don’t include spaces before or after commas.
Make sure all addresses have the same number of fields. Add empty fields as needed.
In Contacts, choose File > Import, select the file, change the encoding if necessary, then click Open.
If you’re importing a text file, review the field labels.
If the first card contains headers, make sure the headers are correctly labeled or marked “Do not import.” Any changes you make to this card are made to all cards in the file. To not import the headers card, select “Ignore first card.”
To change a label, click the arrows next to the label and choose a new label. If you don’t want to import a field, choose “Do not import.”
