Importing mailboxes from Entourage to Mail

When I import mailboxes from Microsoft Entourage (Office 2004 for Mac) the boxes (sometimes) duplicate. Both boxes show content but when I try to read an individual message it is blank - no text.
When I reconstruct a box all the content disappears totally. If I try to suppress one of a set of duplicated boxes both are suppressed : firstly hey reappear as empty white/grey boxes and when I suppress those they disappear totally!
Some imported photos are monocolour (green expanses!)
Is anyone having similar problems importing from Entourage or am I doing something stupid? I follow all instructions carefully!
All help/tips gratefully accepted as I want to go 100% Mac but not lose years of records!

  • Importing mailboxes from Thunderbird to mail

I'm trying to Importing mailboxes from Thunderbird to mail. All it seems to do is import some, how do I get it to import all from Thunderbird.

    Two ways to go...
    1st...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
    2nd...
    Get Applejack...

After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.

  • Importing emails from Entourage into MAIL with Leopard

Went through the importing procedure but only 20% of emails imported into MAIL and then all emails were deleted from Entourage. Any similar problems or ideas on how to retrieve emails in Entourage?

I had this problem with 5 years of saved mailboxes. I figured out a way to get around it. After importing to macmail from entourage to set up macmail, I opened the import folder in macmail and deleted all the mailboxes as some had mail but most did not (I did not want to sift through >25K mails to make sure I did not miss one). Keep both macmail and entourage programs open. Create a temporary subfolder in the inbox on the exchange server using entourage. Move all the mailboxes containing mail to this subfolder in the inbox through entourage. Once everything is moved to the inbox, switch to macmail. Highlight all the mailboxes containing mail that are in the temporary folder in the inbox on the exchange server. Drag them to the import folder in macmail.
I can now discard Entourage and its clunkiness.

  • Unable to import email from Entourage to Mail.app

    Hey all,
I have a very large entourage 2008 inbox (the rge file is about 900 MB). I've been trying to import it into Mail.app but it stops halfway.
I suspect Mail doesn't like a email or folder and stops importing. How can I identify the root cause?
    Thank you.

    Ok.
It looks like I figured it out with your help.
I unchecked the folder that was giving me trouble importing. This time Mail was able to import more but failed on another folder.
So I decided to repeat the import process but unchecked whatever was imported successfully and left the rest checked in. Everything else imported successfully.
Is there any way to tally the amount of total messages stored in Mail? I'd like to be able to compare against my Entourage just to be sure. The previous issues I had has left me unsure about the integrity of the migration.
    Thanks again.

  • Importing from Entourage to Mail Question

    Hi,
I'd like to import from entourage to mail, however I'd like to select a cutoff date of the emails coming in. In other words, instead of 10 years of email, I just want to take the past two or three.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how easily to achieve this end result?
    Thanks

I haven't got a direct answer for you but I had similar experiences which may help you. I found the Mail import to be pretty ineffective and unable to cope with large mailboxes.
I started with Entourage and actually moved to Thunderbird when earlier versions of Mail were not really very good. TBird imported Entourage emails fine - about three years of emails.
With SL and Mail 4, I was looking for a way to import all my TBird emails - now 7 years with as the import into Mail was still flawed and also it had a bad habit of recovering EVERY email ever received, including all the spam. So I found "Eudora mailbox importer" which perfectly moved all my TBird mail straight into Mail with no fuss.
So if you get stuck, its Entourage to TBird to Mail !

  • How can I import mailboxes from Eudora to my new POP Mail account?

    Good afternoon!
I have 10.4.11 on my Mac Mini and want to transfer my mail service from Eudora to Mail. I opened a POP account, but when I tried to import mailboxes from the Eudora Folder stored in Documents I got an Error message: No valid Eudora files were found.
I know the mailbox folder is in the Eudora Folder in Documents, so why can't Mail find it?

I'm not sure if you need Eudora Mailbox Cleaner, but you might take a look at it.

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail

I want to move my E-Mail from Entourage to Mail. I'm using a new MacBook Pro with 10.6.1and wondered if there were any tips I need before I start the process.
I'm intending to use the "File/Import Mailboxes" function in Mail
Also - I have a lot of subfolders which will also need transferring to Mail and am a little scared of messing up the process and losing important messages.
Any advice before I make the transfer will be gratefully received.
    Thanks

I had nothing but problems with it.
I got a roughly 15 GB mail database (roughly 100.000 messages) which I am trying to import from Entourage to Mail using 10.6.1. None of my folders with more than roughly 2500 - 3000 messages in them could have been taken over. None of them. When the import reaches somewhere more than 2000 messages in the actual folder, the import stops and just results all the rest of the folders left empty.

  • Importing Mailboxes from 10.3.9

The motherboard on my venerable slot-loading 1999 iMac DV, running 10.3.9, finally bit it recently. The cost to repair with labor far exceeded the value of the iMac, so I was not so hurt to have to go out and buy a new MacBook...which is just an awesome computer so far. Anyway, I rescued the old 80GB harddrive from the iMac and bought an external enclosure which works great as well. I've been able to easily import my iCal calendars, Safari bookmarks and iPhoto photos. However, when I try to import my mailboxes from OS X Mail, they show up as "greyed out" and cannot be chosen for import. Is there something I'm not doing right? It's not a really big deal, but there's a few I'd like to have for record-keeping. Thanks!
    Curt
    macBook, 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

When I switched from a previous iMac with 10.3.6 to this one, I did the following (and, amazingly enough, it worked even though I went from Panther to Tiger):
On previous iMac, went to Users/Library/Mail/Mailboxes and made a backup copy of each and every .mbox folder (I have a lot of them, not just inbox, sent, etc) and put them all in one folder named import (or whatever) on a CD.
On the new iMac, I opened Mail and after clicking on "import" under File menu, I chose the new import folder on the CD and all my mailboxes with all contents intact were imported without a hitch.
A couple of Macs ago, I did it a bit differently and it also worked: after making a backup copy of every .mbox folder, I went to Users/Library/Mail/Mailboxes on the new computer, trashed each and every (empty) .mbox folder and manually put in all the backup folders. That method worked also, but I can't remember which OS version I was on at the time.
You might want to try either or both of these methods - just don't empty the trash (method #2) until you know things work as they should.
    Hope this helps.

  • Importing Mailboxes from Panther to Tiger

I am attempting to import mailboxes from one Mac operating on Panther to a new Mac Mini operating on Tiger. The directions simply say to go to "import mailboxes" which I have done. The folders show up in my new Mail however they are all empty. Of course, they are not empty on my Panther OS. Any solutions?

I don't know what is it that you've tried, but there are a few things you should be aware of. First of all, the conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.0 is broken. Take a look at this thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
Now, the easiest way to bring your mail from the old machine to the new one would be to just copy the HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file and the HOME/Library/Mail folder from the old machine into the same location on the new machine. Note, however, that, depending how do you transfer the files from one machine to the other, file ownership of those files can be messed up and Disk Utility won't be able to fix that afterwards. For best results, whatever you do, be sure you do it from the new machine and while logged in as the user that's going to use those files in that machine.
When launching Mail on the new machine, Mail should realize that the mail database has to be converted to the new format used by Mail 2.0 and should proceed to import all your mailboxes. If you want this to succeed, be sure you've read the thread I've provided a link to above, and tidy up your mailboxes in Panther before attempting to import them in Tiger.
You may also want to consider using Migration Assistant. I don't know whether this would be a good idea or not, however:

  • Migrate from entourage to mail keeping folders

does anyone know if this is possible and how i would go about it? the user has about 100+ folders and 3GB of msgs, so manually is out of the question.
i know i did this once before but cannot remember how i did it.
    thx!
new imac   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

I had no problem importing my mail and mailboxes from EntourageX to Mail version 1 (Panther). All the mailboxes were there under Import along with my mail.
I am here today (and have been for days) because Mail version 2 (Tiger) is a extraordinary problem and bringing the mail out from the Import folder even in Mail v1 was a problem.
Whatever you do - BACK UP.
Backing up EntourageX is a mess too, if I wrote the mail file to DVD it would not read nor would it copy. Has to be back up to a live drive.
At this point, I would be very happy to get my mail OUT of Apple Mail version 2 and into Thunderbird. From my days of research I am finding that Apple Mail version 2 (Tiger) is just a complete mess. Abandoning the universal Mbox format (it still says Mbox but its really broken into emlx files for spotlight in version 2)
EntourageX fails at around 2GB (or was it 4)- so you are right to get out of there, but after what I have been through- and still am going through because my mail is GONE and rebuild just loses more, and those support pages on apple.com are down and no one has been able to answer any of my questions posted here- I would say DONT move to Apple Mail version 2 Tiger.
    Good luck

  • Switched from Entourage to Mail- # of messages shows but no messages!

I thought I successfully imported all the mail from Entourage into Mail but next to the folder is the number of messages but nothing shows up. For instance it says there are 622 Deleted messages but none show up. What did I do wrong? What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks for any help!!! Judy

Fixed it! Duh! Just needed to restart and they were all there. Answered my own topic. Judy

  • Switching from Entourage to Mail: use Entourage Groups?

I'm attempting to switch from Entourage to Mail and Address Book (not least because of the attractions of smart folders, etc), but I can't figure out how or if I will be able to send occasional email mailshots to large groups of people.
I run an occasional newsletter in email format. Because the list is very large, it wouldn't make sense to set up individual vCards for each individual email address on the list, and yet that seems to be the only way to email all the members of a group using Mail and Address Book.
With Entourage, on the other hand (and I would dearly love to wave goodbye to it in all other respects) I could set up a Group exactly as I would set up an individual contact, then copy the entire list to it, and could even add occasional new email addresses whenever I liked or delete others as they opted to leave the group.
Am I missing something in Mail / Address Book, or will I have to cut and paste into the To: box my entire long list each time I need to send a mailshot? (And doing that would involve using a word processor or text editor in order to manage the list, which is adding yet another programme to what should be a pretty simple task...)
Many thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

Yes. Importing your mail from Entourage does not affect the Entourage database.

  • From Entourage to Mail

    Hi !
Upgrading OS X from 10.2.8 to 10.4 Tiger
Moving from Microsoft Office to Open Office
Moving electronic mail application from Microsoft Entourage to Apple Mail
Problem : Entourage exports e-mail addresses under text format, when Mail imports them under LDIF or Vcard formats !
How to import my e-mail addresses from Entourage to mail ? I have a lot of them, proceeding one by one is unthinkable.
    Thanks

Hello Ramponnet and welcome to the discussions.

  • Importing messages from Entourage

On three machines all running 10.4.11 I try to import messages from Entourage, and the process always is as follows. The bar begins to progress, with the Folder name up top, followed by the quickly changing names of each subject line. It seems to be importing each message.
All three instances the imports finish, with all the folders/sub-folders imported but no messages.
I am going to upgrade the machines to 10.5 tomorrow. See if that works.

I need help also - to anyone out there - after importing the data from Entourage, in addition to missing messages, my mail.app is now running so slow (both downloading messages and opening messages).
The mail.app "Help" is also not opening up.
I wanted to re-load the software also to see if it will correct everything but do not know where to get the application from - is this the best thing to do or what alternatives are there?
    Thanks,

  • Just moved my email from entourage to Mail. Having real problems with getting my signatures to work properly. When adding in a small company logo, windows computers only receive signature as an attachment. Am sending email as Rich Text. Any ideas on a fix

Just moved my email from Entourage to Mail. Having real problems with getting my signatures to work properly despite sending email as Rich Text.
When adding in a small company logo to the signature, PC's / windows computers only receive signature and logo as attachments.
I've tried all possible fixes I can find including getting a PC user to format the logo but no joy. Has anyone experienced this and any ideas on a fix gratefully received.

Send it as html so the signature is an image source URL
