Importing Media- No Video

Hey everybody, thanks for reading
Ok so here is the deal. I reciently have shot a wedding on my Canon XL2 and now I am trying to Import to FCP on the same camera. This is a very typical routine for me. However this time
I open FCP and start to Import and for some reason there is no video or audio that is availible for Importing. The wierd thing being is that I am able to control my camera from my computer.
I switched out my firewire 400 cable, made sure my setting are correct.(firewire NTSC Basic, also tried Firewire NTSC and keep my capture and input on(DV NTSC 48kHZ. I even switch my mini Dv tape.
My capture scratch and that are all set like normal. and In my clip settings they are correct.
I shot in 24p 16:9
Any help would be appreciated
Justin

Rather than simply thrash around, try some simple troubleshooting.
Has this ever worked for you using THIS computer with THIS camera and THIS cable and THIS version of FCP?
If yes, what have you changed, updated etc?
Try to capture using iMovie.
Does it work?
If no, you have a connection issue between the camera and computer.
If yes, You likely have a QT issue - reinstall QT using the delete receipts method (search the forum for it.)
If that doesn't work, you likely have a settings mismatch between the computer program and the camera settings.
Good luck.

I have also tried from the iphoto side, to export the videos or share them to final cut.  I have had no luck.
I have tried to drag and drop indidual video clips from iphoto to fcp, and the programs simply do not respond to each other
I can see in the OLDER version of final cut pro x, where it has IMPORT FILES as an option, it was possible.  I see this on forums and youtube videos of the older versions.
However, the newer version that i have, does not have IMPORT 'FILES' as an option, it is simply all lumped together as IMPORT 'MEDIA'
    Thank You for the Help

at the end, you say "import preferences", which program are you describing?
So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
    vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?

  • Adobe DPS: unable to load media after video montage.

    Hi there,
I am currently using Adobe Indesign CS6 with the latest update of the Folio panel and work on a digital magazine in which I imported some videos in different extensions (*.mov and *.mp4).
Everything worked fine on iPad, but everytime I make a video montage using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, a message error "Unable to load media. Please check your internet connection or try again later" appeared on my iPad screen.
I exported my media from Adobe Premiere in *.mp4 using H.264 codecs for Apple TV/iPad/iPhone, dimension 1280 x 720 and also tried with 1024 x 768, but that didn't work.
Then, I imported my original videos without any montage making on DPS, they work fine. One of the original video has an extension *.mov and the other one *.mp4.
I followed the steps that I read on DPS forums by some users facing the same issue, but that didn't make good results.
So, is there anything I have missed in Adobe premiere Pro CS6 as after making video montage, my iPad always displays the message error?  and why each time I use the same two videos without passing through Adobe Premiere, I can play the video without trouble?

I tried both softwares Handbreake and Adobe Media Encoder CS6 to render my final editing but it always failed.
However, I restarted my whole video project using a free easy-to-use video editing software I downloaded from the internet, now it works fine on ipad with *.mov extension.
By the way, Adobe Indesign does not support *.m4v.
Anyway, I will go on trying to figure out what's the flaw in Adobe Premiere Pro.
    Thanks anyway _Felipe!

  • Best way to import already edited videos

All I want to do is take a movie from my video camera that is already edited and convert it to a quicktime movie. The project is only 7 minutes long, but when I capture it, it slices it up into a bunch of files that still have skips when I put them in the correct or in the timeline. Also, it doesn't put the clips in order of capture, but instead of timecode (I guess). Why would this be the case? It doesn't make any sense and makes a very simple procedure seem very hard. All I want to do is turn my movies into DVDS and put them on YouTube. Does anyone have any advice? Should I use another program?

Russ's suggestion is probably the easiest to implement - and if you use external media you won't incur in much hard drive space penalty for it.
If you really want to import just the video and not the audio, here is a small shell script that you may use to replicate the structure of your folders, using symlinks, and omitting the photos file. It assumes only one level down.
You could copy and paste the text below to a file, replacing the two occurences of <path-of-top-folder> with the actual path of that folder, make the file executable and run it in Terminal.
(a similar thing could probably be achieved with a little applescript or perhaps automator, as well)
Note: I tested this in a small example, and it worked for me, but there is no guarantee, of course; but since the script below only creates some folders and symlinks, it is nondestructive, at least. At the end you should have at the same level as the original a "videos-only" folder replicating the structure of the videos using symlinks (no copied media).
    Here is the script:

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 13 stops working trying to add media via videos from camera

When I try to add media selecting videos from camera or flip, Adobe Premiere Elements 13 stops working and closes. What might be the problem?

    elizabethmeow
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running? Have you had the opportunity to update 13 to 13.1 using an opened projects Help Menu/Update?
What are the full properties of your source media and how are you importing them that you are trying to import into the project? A quick way to get that information, if you do not know that information, is for you to post the brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded the video.
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Element 13, and are you running the program as Administrator?
Lots of additional questions, but the answers to the above may give us the answer that you need to resolve you issue.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing media.

Premiere Pro CC crashes when importing media. Every time. Driving me crazy.
It crashes as soon as the Windows dialogue box comes up.
Does it in new projects and in a project I created and imported into just fine 2 days ago.
    Have rebooted.
Running Windows 8.1 on Samsung Series 5 ultrabook Intel i5 - not too sure what else to say about other settings:
I did have a problem the other day when Windows was crashing when browing a large folder of largish  images and video clips but it went away when I put images and videos in separate folders.

    Thanks for reply.
Point taken but I've been using it for over a year for simple edits (5 min films) in PPCC just fine. Can't even do what I could do the other night now.
Simple folder with a few jpegs and movies in it. In fact it just crashes before I even got to another folder.

When I try to deliver an iBook to the iBookstore I receive the folllowing error message. ERROR ITMS-9000: "Book contains unsupported video my book title_.ibooks:/OPS/assets/media/My video title.m4v.  Could not detect ftyp." at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)
I have no idea what this means and would be grateful for any help.

    KT,
Thank you so much for your interest and response.  I think that I followed all the suggested 6 steps from the iBA user tip but to no avail.  Do you know anything about this comment by dmingo which is pasted below?
'User dmingo says this about that:
After audio tracks are placed in your book, you must 'Publish' the book from iBA (using the 'File/Publish...' menu) - that means re-entering all metadata from scratch - you can't simply import the .ibooks file into iTP. If you enter another audio clip at some time, you have to do it all again. '
To me it seems to say the video clips need to be delivered separately and one at a time.
I would be grateful for any advice

  • Insert Media Flash Video... pre-loader question

    Hello everybody
I'm desperately looking for a solution regarding the
following problem: I've inserted a rather long flv video (insert -
media - flash video) into my site. Visitors with smaller bandwith
have to wait up to 30" until the video starts playing. I either
want to show them a screen saying: "video is going to be buffered -
please wait" or to include an adaptive preloader that shows the %
until the video will start playing. How can this be achieved?
Thanks for all of your input, because this issue is very important
to me and time is running for the project...

Can you divide your long video into several small clips or
    chapters? Then
just put all the clips into a common player like this one
    from Coffee Cup -
    and loop them together.

  • Problems importing Media into iMovies '11

I am unable to import Media using the Media Buttons on the right of the screen which are permanently greyed out.  I have researched various forums and seen advice to delete a file from the Library>Preference folder in your Home Profile in Finder but none of these folders exist in my Home Profile and when I search the whole machine for the file required to be deleted, it does not appear to exist anywhere at all.  My Library>Preference Files appear to be directly under the "MacIntosh HD" Drive in Finder but as I say, hte one that needs deleting is not there.
Anyone any idea how I resolve this or re-install iMovies.  Content is not a huge issue as I don't have much on there for now.
    Exasperated!!

Hi - I found this on a Google Search for the question as no-one seems to be answering this.
According to Apple official website, we know that iMovie can import DV, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MOV, and M4V. And MP4 files commonly defines the storage of MPEG-4 audio and scenes using the ISO Base Media File Format, this kind of MP4 can be imported into iMovie without question. But the MP4 files may also contain any number audio and video codec, and sometimes even subtitle streams included. And that kind of MP4 cannot import into iMovie on Mac.
As we know the reason why we sometimes can't import MP4 to iMovie on Mac, we should got an idea to solve that question. Actually it is very simple, we just need to convert MP4 to iMovie compatible formats. And here I advise you to use our professional Mac MP4 to iMovie Converter. It is specially designed for Mac users to deal video questions. The converting speed and high output quality will fulfill your need. Using our Mac MP4 to iMovie Converter you can set the resolution, frame rate, bit rate to possible high, and you can also trim, crop, rotate, apply your video effect to the video.

  • How to export iMovie clips for import to Windows video editing programs?

What export format creates an exact digital copy of mini-dv video which can be recognised and imported by Windows video editors?
I need to give editable copies of DV to Windows users, The lowest common denominator is Windows Movie Maker, which does not recognise .dv files created by copying from the project's Media folder, or Sharing a Movie to DV stream.
I want to burn data DVDs with clips or complete projects from iMovie which are equivalent to copying back to mini-DV tapes.
Is Share to AVI my only option?
If so, is there any loss in quality?
    iMac G5, MacBook, iMac 233 (R.I.P.)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

after spending a few minutes on the net concerning that WindowMovieMaker, my guess is:
    WMM does NOT accept a "file.dv" ...
but is does accept that same dv within an avi container... "file.avi"
avi and mov are just containers, not formats, as a box of chocolate, "wrappers" for many codecs...
try to export your clips as avi, and choose under compressor "DV"...- give that a try...
DV is the same codec which is in use on miniDV tapes, and the same, iM uses internally... so, it should be no quality loss.. just a "wrapping"...
(me no PCuser, just read that...)

  • Fcp x 10.0.9 I can't select in and out points while importing media, and scrubber won't work in event browser.

I have two problems, and I have already un installed and reinstalled FCP X, and still have the issues.
    1) In the import media window I can no longer select my in and out points to import. Pressing  the "I" and "O" keys, I just get the audible error beep.
    2) in the event browser I can select the in and out points, but it will no longer scrub through the clip with the cursor.
I do have OSX Mavericks installed, but the issue was prior to the install.

Tom, perhaps I used the wrong terminology, skimming not scrubbing. In the event browser on the thumbnails of my clips, I recall being able to skim to a point and then select the in and out points. It apparently is solved. I guess the reinstall fixed it. Well like taking your car to a mechanic its not making the clicking sound now.
As far as the import. I think  by your response you solved the problem. I can select the in and out point when I import from a camera or my iphone, but I did not realize you could not select the in and out points from a video file already on my hard drive.
I appreciate your responce, and have a great day.

  • Hi, i have a gopro and imovie11 wont let me import my hd videos. does anyone know the reason for this? i shoot them in hd but when i try to import them in hd it wont let me, please someone help me?

i have a gorp and i need help importing my hd videos that i know i shoot in hd, to imovie 11. it wont let me click on them, there transparent and it wont allow it. can someone help me figure this problem out?

    Hi Ken,
I had the same problem importing from my Gopro.  The solution I found was to open the movie using Quicktime.  Select "share" from the menu at the top of the page, then select iMovie.  It will convert it to a readable format as it loads it into iMovie.  Don't know why Apple makes a simple task so unintuitive.

iTunes and the iPhone do not support WMV files. You will first have to convert the video to an MPEG4 or H.264 format video.

  • Import media dialog is not showing me folders, instead showing me every singe file that's inside all of the folders on my desktop? What gives?

So i'm trying to import media that's on my desktop, one clip that's inside a folder. when I choose import media and the dialog box opens, I choose desktop to navigate to the folder but there are no folders found. FCP starts loading all of the files individually that are inside all of the folders on my desktop. I can't for the life of me figure out why it's doing this. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

DSounds like you have a folder on the desktop with the name of a camera folder something like DCIM or PRIVATE that makes the application read the containing folder the Desktop as if it were a camera drive.
