Importing metadata from XMP sidecar files into Aperture 2.0?

Has anybody found a way to to do this? It appears that the metadata stored in the XMP sidecar files created by Photoshop and Bridge is ignored by Aperture when it imports images. That is pretty much a show stopper when it comes to using Aperture for asset management.

The XMP import capability is limited to metadata/IPTC type info - NOT ACR adjustments and such - those values are specific and make no sense to Aperture. This is true in reverse as well - ACR/Bridge/LR/NX2, etc, etc may pickup IPTC type metadata from XMP or embedded values but NO software will translate adjustment values from another piece of software that are stored ad metadata.

  • Importing XMP sidecar files into Aperture 3

I don't seem to see the effects of importing the XMP files with a referenced or managed RAW file. I tested this by opening a RAW file from Bridge into Camera RAW. I then adjusted the file, which created the XMP file. When I import the file into AP3, I see the master RAW image, but none of the adjustments. (I can tell this since I did a dramatic halftone to the original RAW). I expected to see the results of the halftone in my AP3 file, but did not.
    Am I missing something here?

  • Import metadata from existing sidecars?

Aperture 3 can import metadata created in Bridge/Lightroom from sidecar files when importing images.
However is there a way to import the metadata contained in sidecar files for referenced images converted from an Aperture 2 library to an Aperture 3 library?
The metadata contained in sidecars is not picked up during the the conversion process. It is only recognised when importing.

    William
My images, mostly Nikon raw NEF files go back to 2000. I added extensive metadata using Bridge and Lightroom before acquiring Aperture in 2008 (Aperture would not run on my previous G4). After an initial flush of enthusiasm I became a little disenchanted with Aperture and continued to do most of my work in Bridge/Camera Raw/Lightroom.
Now that Aperture 3 has bridged many of the gaps I am again flushed with enthusiasm. Considering the AP3 can read the metadata in existing sidecars on import, I have been hoping that there would be a way to read that same metadata after import as can be done in Lightroom with Save/Read Metadata.
I understand that adjustments will never be interchangeable between these programs.
Yes I have tried Metadata>Update from Master. That does not read the metadata in the sidecars.

  • How to import data from a text file into a table

    Hello,
I need help with importing data from a .csv file with comma delimiter into a table.
I've been struggling to figure out how to use the "Import from Files" wizard in Oracle 10g web-base Enterprise Manager.
I have not been able to find a simple instruction on how to use the Wizard.
I have looked at the Oracle Database Utilities - Overview of Oracle Data Pump and the Help on the "Import: Files" page.
Neither one gave me enough instruction to be able to do the import successfully.
Using the "Import from file" wizard, I created a Directory Object using the Create Directory Object button. I Copied the file from which i needed to import the data into the Operating System Directory i had defined in the Create Directory Object page. I chose "Entire files" for the Import type.
Step 1 of 4 is the "Import:Re-Mapping" page, I have no idea what i need to do on this page. All i know i am not tying to import data that was in one schema into a different schema and I am not importing data that was in one tablespace into a different tablespace and i am not R-Mapping datafiles either. I am importing data from a csv file.
For step 2 of 4, "Import:Options" page, I selected the same directory object i had created.
For step 3 of 4, I entered a job name and a description and selected Start Immediately option.
What i noticed going through the wizard, the wizard never asked into which table do i want to import the data.
I submitted the job and I got ORA-31619 invalid dump file error.
I was sure that the wizard was going to fail when it never asked me into which table do i want to import the data.
I tried to use the "imp" utility in command-line window.
After I entered (imp), i was prompted for the username and the password and then the buffer size as soon as i entered the min buffer size I got the following error and the import was terminated:

Please show me the easiest way to import a text file into a table. How complex could it be to do a simple import into a table using a text file?
We are testing our application against both an Oracle database and a MSSQLServer 2000 database.
I was able to import the data into a table in MSSQLServer database and I can say that anybody with no experience could easily do an export/import in MSSQLServer 2000.
I appreciate if someone could show me how to the import from a file into a table!
    Thanks,

  • How can I import data from a csv file into databse using utl_file?

    Hi,
I have two machines (os is windows and database is oracle 10g) that are not connected to each other and both are having the same database schema but data is all different.
Now on one machine, I want to take dump of all the tables into csv files. e.g. if my table name is test then the exported file is test.csv and if the table name is sample then csv file name is sample.csv and so on.
Now I want to import the data from these csv files into the tables on second machine. if I've 50 such csv files, then data should be written to 50 tables.
I am new to this. Could anyone please let me know how can I import data back into tables. i can't use sqlloader as I've to satisfy a few conditions while loading the data into tables. I am stuck and not able to proceed.
Please let me know how can I do this.
    Thanks,
    Shilpi

Why you want to export into .csv file. Why not export/import? What is your oracle version?

  • LR3 does not find metadata from XMP sidecars that EM2 does

I use Image Ingestor. When I ingest RAW files and view them in LR3 all the metadata applied using Image Ingester II is visible in LR3. When I ingest my older JPEG files II places the metadata into a XMP sidecar in the same folder with the same name as the file. LR3 seems to ignore these XMP files as it does not show ANY of  my metadata except that from the JPEG EXIF from the JPEG file itself.
EM2 reads the XMP files and properly handles the metadata.
Googling turns up quite a few people with this issue.
My understanding is that LR3 is supposed to treat the XMP with precedence over the image file metadata but it does not seem to do this. Is there an option to be set?
    This is an example XMP

  • How to do import data from the text file into the mathscript window?

Could anyone tell me how to do import data from text file into mathscript window for labview 8?
MathScript Window openned, File, Load Data - it has options: custom pattern (*.mlv) or all files.
    Thanks

    Hi Milan,
Prior to loading data in Mathscript Window , you have to save the data from the Mathscript window (the default extension of the file is .mlv but you can choose any extension). This means that you cannot load data from a text file  that was not created using the Mathscript window.
Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding this issue.

  • How to upgrade a Library on an external drive created in a previous version of aperture so I can re-import it from the external drive into Aperture 3.5.1 on my MBP ?

I have exported earlier Projects [which were created in Aperture 3.4.5] to an external hard drive. Now I wish to reimport them into Aperture 3.5.1 - which I use after having upgraded to Mavericks - but am given an error message saying I can’t reimport because the external drive is storing a Library created by an earlier version of Aperture than I’m using now. It tells me to upgrade that externally stored Library.
The Question - one can only upgrade a Library on one’s computer, not on the external drive. How can I upgrade it if I can’t get it back into Aperture [3.5.1] on my MacBookPro in the first place ?
    Thank  you
    Bob

You can upgrade the library on the external drive. Connect your external drive to your computer.
Then select the library with the exported projects on the external drive and double-click it to open it in Aperture. This will upgrade the library to Aperture 3.5.1.  Since upgrading can sometimes be problematic, I recommend to make a backup copy of the library before you try to upgrade the library.
After that you should be able to merge the library into your main library using File > Import.

If those headers are repeating in your text file, you could run a simple script to cleanse the data first and make the file fit for SQL*Loader.
Here's an example with Perl, I hope the header of Page 2 and onwards resembles what you have in your file. I've snipped some data from the far right so that it fits on my terminal screen:
    $
$ # show the contents of the data file
    $
    $ cat report.dat

$ You could do an inline substitution with Perl, or redirect it to a temp file and then move back to the original file. In either case, you have just the relevant data for the next step.
Again, Perl is just one option. On Unix/Linux systems, you have a large number of utilities/scripting languages that can perform almost any kind of data transformation.

  • How can I extract the metadata from multiple image files into a .csv?

    Hi.
I'm looking for what I believe is a simple task but I am not sure how to go about it. I want to get the relevant data (seen in the screen grab below) into a spread sheet. I need to get the File Name, Size, Dimensions, Resolution and Kind into the spreadsheet so I can better analyze the data for my purposes. I have tried to find EXIF and IPTC extractors but only come across products that show me the info with no way of transferring it. I figured there must be a way to do this in the Finder. Maybe it's a simple Automator task (which I am not very good at) or a Script.
Can anyone guide me thru or suggest a tool that would work?
I was given a suggestion in another Disscussion to use a Plug-In for iPhoto. I found an old one but it dosnt have all of the metadata I need. It's missing the File Name and Resolution as options.

    Nevermind, I found it.

You can seelct to leace the files where they are, copy into Aperture or else put them someplace else on the HD.
    What is your setting?

  • Importing XMP sidecar files

I used Lightroom to catalogue my pictures as Aperture would not run on my G4. I have now upgraded my computer and have purchased Aperture. I exported my pictures out of Lightroom with XMP sidecar files. On importing my pictures into Aperture I do not have the ratings and keywords assigned in Lightroom. Is there any way I can import the side car files or do I have to rate my pictures again and add the keywords manually?

The XMP import capability is limited to metadata/IPTC type info - NOT ACR adjustments and such - those values are specific and make no sense to Aperture. This is true in reverse as well - ACR/Bridge/LR/NX2, etc, etc may pickup IPTC type metadata from XMP or embedded values but NO software will translate adjustment values from another piece of software that are stored ad metadata.

  • Importing .xmp sidecar file doesn't populate IPTC info??

Good evening everyone.  I've been trying to import .xmp files alongside some of my old movies to save me from having to retype the IPTC info such as location, etc.  I have a folder which contains the .mov file I want to import, along with the .xmp file of the exact same name.  I thought this was automatic (at least from my perspective), put I guess not?  The .mov file imports just fine, but Aperture doesn't seem to populate any of the metadata fields with any info from the .xmp file.  I've tried this with different videos/xmp sidecar files with no luck.  Am I stuck re-entering all the metadata by hand?  I really don't have much info, but I have several hundred files I'm trying to re-import, so it could be a long week.  In case it helps, here's the xmp sidecar file that was created when I used iView Media Pro software pre-Aperture:
    Thank you!!

The Photoshop and/or Bridge forums would be more likely places to get answers to your questions. This forum is inhabited more by programmer types interested in implementing the XMP specification in applications we write.
I'd expect CS2 to ignore CS1 panels so I doubt that's the issue. Panels don't interfere with each other--they just offer different views of the data. In any case, move the extra panels to your desktop and see what happens.
As far as I know, all you need to do on the Mac is drag the CS1 application folder to the trash to uninstall it.

  • Lightroom 5 not loading .xmp sidecar files during import

I have a folder of RAW images that also contain .xmp sidecar files that I am trying to import into Lightroom. The images import with no issues but it appears that Lightroom is ignoring the sidecar files since none of the metadata they contain are appearing in the catalog. I am seeing the same behavior when I take the same RAW/.xmp files and first run them through the DNG converter and then import the DNGs into Lightroom (again, no metadata). I have tried to update the catalog by both writing to file as well as reading from file but nothing I do will get the metadata read into the catalog. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks...

    Rob Cole wrote:
Whoops - I just realized you had also tried force-reading metadata after import.
If that doesn't work, then either the xmp sidecar files were not named properly, or something in them Lr not liking (presumably)
If you can make a copy available (of original photo file + xmp sidecar, e.g. zipped) I can have a look.
PS - Lr will only read DNG sidecar if newer than DNG (and hence embedded xmp).

Thanks Rob. New to these forums so still trying to feel my way through it. I tried both using the context menu as well as the metadata menu option for a selected image with no success. I have tried this with an image I had previously converted to a .DNG and the metadata does not load into the catalog for those either. However, I can't determine that the .DNG version had the metadata loaded or not. I don't know enough about the file structure or have the tools to peer inside to verify. The .zip file is 12MB in size so I am unable to insert the RAW file but I can't figure out how to attach to .xmp file either. Will continue to research to see how I can do that...

I have imported all photos and videos from my iPhone 5S into Aperture ver.3.4.5 and now cannot find them. I thought I could open a panel showing all imports and merely list them chronologically, but I don't see how to do this.  There are over 1800 photos and about 100 videos, any help to locate where they've gone would be appreciated.

Try to search with a Smart Album for photos and videos taken with an iPhone:
File > New > Smart Album:
Add an EXIF rule fro the "Add Rule" drop down menu: EXIF
and set it to "Camera Model includes iPhone".
Set the scope of the search to "Library"
If there are any iPhone images or videos in your library at all, this search should find them.  Then ctrl-click any of the items and select "Show in Project" from the contextual menu.
Generally, Aperture should be showing your last import in the "Last Import" smart album in the "recent" section". And the "projects" view can be sorted by date, so you should see your recent imports.
You may want to check all search fields, if searches are active.
