Importing Microsoft Word document with images to InDesign CS5

Hey,
I'm trying to import a MS Word document that contains inline images to InDesign CS5.
I tried File->Place with checking "Import Inline Graphics" but unfortunately it imports the document without the images, there are blank regions where the images are suppose to be.
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Kathy

Yes, aligning image on its own paragraph works, I will skip wraping text inside paragraph, this can be done inside InDesign. Here is one part of Internet PDF books I am talking about, both are in Serbian http://issuu.com/bojan_zivkovic/docs/prikazivanje_slika_u_adobe_photoshop_elements - word + indesign, http://www.scribd.com/doc/49583823/Nau%C4%8Dite-Adobe-Photoshop   - indesign only
Basicaly I am writing tutorials then turn them into PDF books, for now.
Thank you, I never try to insert image on its own paragraph.

HELP!!!! I have spent hours trying to find out how to embed an image with a link, or embed a Microsoft Word document with a hyperlink built within the document -- not as an attachment into my email -- but where it shows as the email content when opened! Does ANYONE know the secret? Can it be done, or not? My PC clients do it all the time easily. Then I want to be able to send the embedded image/document (not as an attachment, but visable within the email when opened) to many email contacts at once, BUT the individuals receiveing them DO NOT SEE the other email contacts. Cannot seem to be able to find anything on being able to do these 2 tasks.PLEASE, SOMEONE, HELP!!!

  • Importing multipage Word document w/hyperlinks into InDesign

I am new to InDesign and I am trying to import a 11 page Word document with hyperlinks into InDesign. For the life of me, I can not figure this out. I try to "put" the file into InDesign but it just imports as a tiny box. Two questions:
    1. Does anyone know how to import a Word document where everything is left intact - formatting, line spacing and hyperlinks?
    2. Can anyone recommend a good resource for beginners? Trying to learn the software is very challenging.
Thanks in advance for our help!

Matt: The 11 pages of information from Word still have to be laid out to 11 pages (or whatever) in InDesign. The little box you're talking about is a text box you either created before the Place command (with the text cursor waiting inside it) or created when you clicked the "loaded" cursor after the Place command.
You need to resize the box and link it to other boxes for the text to flow from one box to another. This can be a fairly automated procedure once you understand how to work in InDesign; it would require that you have your document designed with, say, a Master Page design, and then different choices of click, shift-click, cmd-click do different things: fill a single text box, fill "threaded" (connected) text boxes on pages you've created, or automatically create new pages as necessary to accommodate all the info you've brought in with the Place command.

  • Convert 1 single microsoft word document with section breaks to multiple pdf files

I am a windows 7 users. I have a single microsoft word document which contain 1500 pages. These 1500 pages are seperated by sections breaks in the microsoft word. I am trying to convert this word document to multiple pdf files seperated by the section breaks in the Microsoft word. How can I convert the single microsoft word document with section breaks to multiple seperate pdf files?

Acrobat (Adobe PDF Printer and PDFMaker ) doesn't recognize the Section breaks.  It never has as far as I am aware.  The easiest thing to do is to manually break up a copy of the MS Word Document into the Sections you need and then create the PDFs from those MS Word documents.

  • Importing Word Documents with Images

Hi, When I import word document in to Robohelp, it imports
the images also. Now, I have duplicate images in multiple topics.
How do I avoid duplicate images being imported? Is there anyway,
where I can collate and store all the images in a single folder,
instead of saving it in multiple folders?

You're right. One reason this plan never came to fruition is
because this doesn't take a lot of time.
When I first came aboard, I envisioned a lot of importing of
Word documents where each change was done to a Word doc (complete
with macros and useful AutoText) and then imported into RoboHelp.
Then, a global search would take care of the image problem. But
that isn't really our MO, so this never happened.
Although, it's a great way to create a new project. Author
your Word documents with meaningful characters to represent each
icon. Then when you import everything, just include the graphic
once and then do a global search.

  • Importing Microsoft word documents that already have paragraph styles

Hello. I have been trying to figure out how to do this for months, this was taught to me many months ago but for some odd reason when I tried it myself it didn't work . I have my paragraph styles all set up in my indesign document. I have to import text that another person is giving me. The document that this person is giving me is a Microsoft word document. Someone showed me that you can customize the document in microsoft word, with styles for example: Selecting a part of text and customizing it (making it big and bold for example), then naming that style Heading, and then doing the same for lets say...a subheading. Well after you save the document (the microsoft word document), you are able to import the word document into your indesign file and it's supposed to override the styles from Microsoft Word and customize itself with your own paragraph or character styles that you already have in your indesign document, as long as the name of the styles are the same as the ones you had in microsoft word(which in this case would be heading and subheading). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Convert Word styles to InDesign styles
Here's the info you need. I found it in the InDesign Help section. I needed it, too. The "Show Import Options" is a little box in the lower left hand corner of the screen that comes up when you choose the file you want to place in InDesign. It's easy to miss.
While importing a Microsoft Word document into InDesign or InCopy, you can map each style used in Word to a corresponding style in InDesign or InCopy. By doing so, you specify which styles format the imported text. A disk icon appears next to each imported Word style until you edit the style in InDesign or InCopy.
    Do one of the following:
To add the Word document to existing text in InDesign or InCopy, choose File > Place. Select Show Import Options, and then double-click the Word document.
To open the Word document in a stand-alone InCopy document, start InCopy, choose File > Open, and then double-click the Word file.
Select Preserve Styles and Formatting From Text and Tables.
Select Customized Style Import, and then click Style Mapping.
In the Style Mapping dialog box, select the Word style, and then select an option from the menu under InDesign style. You can choose the following options:
If there is no style name conflict, choose New Paragraph Style, New Character Style, or choose an existing InDesign style.
If there is a style name conflict, choose Redefine InDesign Style to format the imported style text with the Word style. Choose an existing InDesign style to format the imported style text with the InDesign style. Choose Auto Rename to rename the Word style.
Click OK to close the Style Mapping dialog box, and then click OK to import the document.

  • Integrating Microsoft Word documents with ADF BC and JClient technologies

    Hi,
We are developing a Police Management System in JAVA with the Oracle Jdeveloper 10.1.2.0.0. We are using for the access to the data, in the businesses tier, the ADF Business Component Technology and for the User Interface, in the client tier, the JClient for ADF Technology. The used Database is Oracle Enterprise Edition 10.1.0.3.0. with the intermedia option.
We were looking for ways to upload and insert Microsoft Word Documents into a view object using JClient on the client tier. We have found the following options:
    1) Oracle Intermedia database datatype ORDSYS.ORDDOC and their corresponding ADF Business Compomnents domains -> The problem is using Jclient on the client tier. In Oracle JDeveloper 10g, developers will not be able to create new applications using JClient interMedia controls. JUImage (limited to images only) is the JClient control available to access multimedia in the database.
    2) Oracle COM Automation Feature -> We were studying the possibility to built a solution with Oracle and Microsoft Word using Oracle COM Automation Feature for Java. The problem is Oracle COM Automation Feature requires Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003. We are using a database on linux, therefore this option is not valid.
    3) CLOBs in database and theirs corresponding ADF Business Components domains -> But I don't know how to use ADF BC objects in JClient tier.
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks,
    Patri

    Hi,
I have worked with BLOBS or CLOBS and their corresponidng ADF Business Components domains, but I don't know how to use ADF BC objects in JClient tier.
To sum up, I want to upload, insert and view microsoft word documents by using a JClient application using ADF/BC4J components.
    Thanks,

  • Convert picture imported to Word document with VBA

I've Word documents that contain acronyms and a macro that searches the document for them so that they can be identified for an acronym table. So far, I can search a document's text and tables but not the pictures with the macro. I've found that if
I manually select the picture, right click and select group->ungroup, I get a MsgBox with the message "This is an imported picture, not a group. Do you want to convert it to a Microsoft Office drawing object?" Selecting the yes button converts
it into many Shapes objects that are then searchable.
I've determined that the picture (object) type prior to conversion is msoPicture and that it gets converted to an msoCanvas object with many Shape objects on it.
I've built a macro that can loop through various Canvas objects and then the Shape objects to find the acronyms. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a way to convert the image/object from msoPicture to msoCanvas in VBA. Does anyone know how to do
    this? Thanks.

    Hi,
As far as I know, we can’t convert a picture to canvas through VBA.
For that process through the UI, I think it add the canvas first, then add the picture to that canvas.
For your requirement, you could add the canvas first, then add the picture to tat canvas.
    Sub NewCanvasPicture()
    Dim shpCanvas As Shape
'Add a drawing canvas to the active document
    Set shpCanvas = ActiveDocument.Shapes _
    .AddCanvas(Left:=100, Top:=75, _
    Width:=200, Height:=300)
'Add a graphic to the drawing canvas
    shpCanvas.CanvasItems.AddPicture _
    FileName:="C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\" & _
    "Office\Bitmaps\Styles\stone.bmp", _
    LinkToFile:=False, SaveWithDocument:=True
    End Sub

  • Dynamic Converter - convert Word Document with Image

    I have the following issue:
My word document contains an embedded image. the text flows around the picture on the right side.
After the conversion is the text in a separate paragraph below the picture ...
Is it possible to configure the dynamic converter so that the text flows around the picture like in the word document?
    Thanks for your help!

Now i have tried several times to format the output with different styles. I have changed the text color, text size and to align the picture.
    But the output didn't change.
There are no errors or warnings in the logfile.
An ibr is also running. It converts doc into pdf.
    For the dynamic converter:
    I have made a rule.
Then i have added a criteria for the field "format" with the value "application/msword".
Then i have selected a gui tepmlate and asigned the standard layout.
    No effect.
Any suggestions why the dynamic conversion didn't work?
    Thank you for your help!

  • Cannot import a word document with Pictures into iWEB

I have a small word document that has embedded pictures included in the document when i try to copy it to a page in iWEB i get the text but no pictures, i assume this is because it has no media placeholder included and iWEB doesn't recognize the pictures and create Media Holders, how do i get round this?, when i try to overlay a picture directly onto the web page I cannot configure the WRAP Text in the text inspect panel, so the text and the pictures format looks clumsey
    Anyone any ideas?
    Thx

OK, but were are they saved? I have looked in the folder were the document is saved and there is nothing .....
I tried to Copy and Paste an image into the text box and yes at first glance it appears to be "in the Box" but on my system it is actually overlaying the text box, ie I cannot control the picture location from within the text box.
If you understand what I am trying to say

  • Importing Microsoft Word doc to InDesign with embedded EPS art ~ scaling issue

Hi, my workflow calls for creating content in Microsoft Word 2010 with embedded EPS art, in this case MathType 6.7a math objects. When I import these manuscripts (after saving as Word 97/2003 format) into my Adobe InDesign CS5.5 templates, the embedded inline graphics have been resized. Strangely, InDesign is keeping the container frame at the correct dimensions and then upsizing or downsizing the art inside that box.
When I export a sample graphic from the Word file and unembed the same graphic after import it into InDesign, the two graphics are different sizes. InDesign might increase the size of one embedded graphic by 400% and then scale it down to 25% inside the anchored picture box and then in the next anchored picture box it might decrease the size the art to 50% and scale it to 200%.
I did a test and created a graphic in Adobe Illustrator, saved it as EPS, placed the graphic into a Microsoft Word 2010 document, saved it out to 97/2003 format, imported that doc into an empty Adobe InDesign CS5.5 file. Again! InDesign changed the size of the art and re-scaled it to appear the same.
I've been able to duplicate this issue on InDesign CS4 also, on both Windows XP and Windows 7.
Has anyone else run into this issue? Does anyone know why the InDesign import filter doesn't import inline art in a Word document at 100%? Thanks for the help!

    My solution for this is:
    1. Place *.docx (yes, docx) word document with mathtype equations into indesign. This will set correct baseline for equations which is very important.
    2. download this scalegraphics script http://in-tools.com/downloads/indesign/scripts/ScaleGraphics.zip
    3. copy script from zip folder to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Scripts\Scripts Panel\Samples\JavaScript
    4. open palet (window/autoamtion/scripts) scripts, find new sript and run it
Voila, all equations is at 100%...
    Script explanation: http://in-tools.com/article/scripts-blog/scale-graphics-script/
In links palete equations have eps extension but this is embeded wmf files so you cant open them in photoshop or distill it with distiller.-((( I use export to pdf option in indesign to make pdf file.
If you want all this eps links to export from indesign use this method:
    1. in links palete select all links
    2. in palete menu choose "unembed link"
    3. on answer window choose "no"
    4. select folder where you want indesign save files
    5. press "select"
    6.  now you have all links in new folder unembed from indesign document and you can edit it with mathtype.

  • Importing Microsoft Word comments into InDesign CS5.5 [Mac]

Has anyone had success importing Microsoft Word comments into InDesign 5.5? I've read that this is possible, however, all my attempts have failed. I've checked that Track Changes is on in both InDesign and MS Word.
The one pattern with all the files I've attempted is that, by the time I receive the file, the author has already accepted all tracked changes. The comments remain, but they do not import into InDesign.
I have 'track changes' ticked on the import dialog.
Is there anything I'm missing? Tips from people who've done this successfully would be greatfully apprecated.

    Hi BhSimonP,
Did you got any solution to this problem. I am having same requirement now.
Please help me with your answer.
    Thanks,

  • Importing Word Docs with Images into RH7

    Hi All,
I have a large Word doc which is full of images and text that
I want to import into RH7. I've tried it and tried it, even
converted it to PDF and tried it, but I don't get any of the images
imported. I've discovered the images folder, but there's nothing in
it and, just in case they're hidden(!), I've published and still no
    images.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks!

No I have only been using it since Word 2 days. :-)
Please don't mention the limit of 200 pages with graphics to
my documents which can run to over twice that size.
I repeat the point that if Word is struggling with this
particular document, you cannot expect another application to work
well with the document. RH does import Word documents with many
images, it is something that I have done many times. I think the
problem is something to do with the image type you have chosen
(emz). If you look in the image import dialog you will see that EMZ
is not a listed file type.
Without being able to see your document, it is difficult to
help you. Speak to your management. I regularly receive projects
from people on this forum and nobody has ever had cause to
complain. I would not risk losing the Adobe Community Expert status
by revealing the content to anyone.
