Importing midi tempo map in Logic Pro

my friend did a midi tempo map of a audio file. sent me .midi file but can't get it to open if logic. how you import it into a exitsting project?
thanks

Hi
There are 2 ways to get a MIDI file into Logic:
A) File:Import (or drag and drop from the Finder, use the Browser, etc).
This imports all the basic MIDI events, but ignores tempo, time signature and such,
B) File:Open
This creates a new project with all the tempo data.
To import this tempo data into an existing project, copy the tempo events from the tempo list in the 'MIDI' project, and paste into your project.

  • Audio/MIDI Interface Compatibility with Logic Pro 7.2

    Hello,
Is/are there a recommended audio/midi interface(s) that will work without audio/midi timing glitches with Logic Pro 7.2? Currently, I am using Pro Tools LE v7.1, along with the DIGI002 Rack. That combination works very well, with no glitches whatsover. The possibility of using Logic Pro 7.2 raises the question of what would be a compatible interface. I don't think the DIGI002 Rack has the necessary drivers, although I may be mistaken. However, there must be an interface that works well with Logic Pro 7.2.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thank you,

    Hello,
I went to the Metric Halo Web site and was not able to find the interface that you may have been referring to. It looks like the Mobile I/O may be the correct one, however, that interface is much more than I would want to spend (http://www.mhlabs.com/metric_halo/products/mio/)
The price seems to be @ $1200. Anyway, I am somewhat confused regarding the Metric Halo.
Any additional advice/help would be appreciated.

  • Trouble with MIDI mapping in Logic Pro 9 and 10

    Hi!
So I recently bought a Novation Launchkey 25-key keyboard and, as it doesn't map automatically to barely anything, I've been trying to MIDI map it so I can control certain parameters wih the knobs. I've done the learn assignment thing and everything as I found here http://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=432, but there's this problem: I can't control parameters fully. I'm going to make an example:
I've got the Delay Designer opened, and I would like to control the "Sync" knob with one of the keyboard's knobs, so it map it to do so, but when I turn the hardware knob it goes directly to 100. I mean, I turn the knob just a bit and it goes from 0 to 100, skipping all the other values. This happens with every instrument / effect in Logic Pro 9 but also in Logic Pro 10.
I dont' know if anything else is having this issue, but it's really annoying and I hope you guys can help me fix it...
    So, as always, thanks!
    And cheers!

And sorry for my poor explanation... English is not my mother tongue!

  • Can't import FCPX xml file to Logic Pro

I'm using the trial of Final Cut Pro X to give it a go.
I export a test project as XML so I could try to import it into Logic Pro (latest version).  Export seems to work fine.  When I go to Logic to import the test.fcpxml file, it is grayed out and won't let me select it.
Not sure if this is a FC problem, or if Apple needs to release an update for Logic to be compatible with FCPX.
    Any insight?
MacBook Pro, Lion 10.7, 4GB Ram, Intel Core 2 Duo, Logic Studio

This is a completely new form of XML. Very little works with it at this time.

There are "free download" EXS presets - look at the bottom of the [home page|http://www.vengeance-sound.com/eng/indexes/indexFreeSounds.html] "Vengeance EXS Presets" and download.

  • No sound from MIDI instrument / recording on Logic Pro 7

Audio interface is set up properly.
Logic Pro 7 says it records the midi signal, and the notes show up in the midi region (the rectangular box in the arrange window where you see the wave if its an 'audio' recording) but there is no output sound, even though it says in the bottom right that there is a MIDI output signal and i can see the notes on the screen with my own eyes.
Normal line in / audio tracks record and play back fine. It's baffling!

Its just a software instrument in logic. Tried a few different ones. in the bottom right, when i play a note it says that the output is on channel 3 (same as input, which is set to 3 on the midi keyboard. Audi interface is connected by usb, and it plays all other sounds from computer including line in / audio tracks on logic, as well as the tutorial track.
Recent garage band convert. When you recorded a midi region with a software instrument with that you could hear it straight away. Is there something i need to know about routing the output through something else in logic?
    Thanks for your help

  • Which 61 key midi keyboards work with Logic Pro X (10)? M-Audio, Novation, Akai, Roland???

Hi. I'm new to this community but would really appreciate some help.
I'm struggling to find a 61 key midi keyboard which works properly with Logic Pro X.
I was looking into getting either the M-Audio Axiom 61 or Novation Impulse 61 but all I can find on google etc. is people saying they don't work properly.
Has anybody got a 61 key which works seamlessly with Pro X?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    To "The Art Of Sound"
    Hi. I doing next.
    1. I create new project
    2. I select Yamaha Grand Piano
    3. I play something in "live" mode. All is ok
    4. I play something in "Rec" mode. All is ok
    5. I record second track with the same instrument, with Yamaha Grand Piano. All is ok
    6. I record third track with Yamaha Grand Piano. All is ok again.
    7. Now I muting first or second track and... third track plays wrong notes! I unmute first track, but third track still to play wrong notes! Why???
Ok. I continue experiment with created project. I have three Yamaha grand Piano tracks and I creating new software instrument and assing Hovering Machine to it. I try to play in "live" mode something. And I get interesting effect. If I play short notes (sixteens, for example), I can play for one minute without problem. And Logic Pro X starts to play wrong notes after this time delay.
If I start to press chord notes without breaking, Logic  Pro X plays for 15-30 secounds normally and starts to play wrong notes them.
Well. I turn off all plugins and effects from instruments. But Logic Pro X countinues to play wrong notes!
I experimented with NI Kontakt 5. Kontakt plays wrong notes!
I experimented with LUSH-101 plugin and minimoog. This two instruments play correct notes always!!! WHY????
Why some instruments play wrong notes and other instruments play correct notes in the same project?
I wrote wrong in my previous post. I got this problem with Logic Pro X 10.0.3 update.
Actually I have serious problem now. I opened projects created in Logic Pro X early and I have this problem  in ALL projects. This's commercial projects and my partners asked me already about release date... What must I answer?

  • Will my Unitor8 non USB Midi Interface work with Logic Pro 8 (MacOSX 10.5.8

I just purchased one of these Unitor8 gizmos, but have no way of connecting it with my Mac due to the absence of the USB connection on the MIDI interface. My question is....can I use a RS422 mini-din 8pin serial >>>to USB adapter converter, and will the OS and Logic recognize it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    John Bennett
Logic Pro 8, MacPro 8 core Xeon, M-Audio ProFire 2626.

The problem is not the reliability of the adapter (they're just fine), but that the Midi driver doesn't look for such an adapter. It won't work. The only chance to get your interface to work is to buy one of the emagic interfaces that came with both USB and RS port and to chain them up.
    Cheers,
    Jazz

  • Rename midi-cc's in Logic Pro 9

    Hello!
In Logic I have a.o. a midi-track used to automate vocal-fx in Mainstage.
I use midi-cc's to control fx sends on Mainstage mic-channels.
I have "Mainstage" set up as an external instrument in Logic, used via the IAC-driver.
It seems to me that I can't rename these cc's in Logic.
I would of course like them to be called something related to the function
they have in my setup, instead of the GM-name they come up with.
Before I "accept" that this can't be done, I thought I'd ask here
(Having used Sonar for 10 years before going Mac about a year ago
this is quite a surprise to me. This was a basic thing in Sonar to define
    your non-GM instruments)
    Best regards
    Kim Holst
    DK

Some of the newer hardware controllers have the ability to display the function
of the sliders/knobs relevant to the device they connect to.
Ok, that's just calling a knob on your controller, for instance, 'Filter Cutoff" because that's what you want to control.
That has nothing to do with which MIDI CC you are using to do it - it's just calling the knob "Filter Cutoff". If you are creating, eg, virtual knobs in Logic's environment, you can of course name the knob "Filter Cutoff".
This is very different to what you originally asked - renaming the actual MIDI CC's in Logic - so when you open up a region with CC#7 data, instead of saying "Volume" it would say "My renamed MIDI CC number". So I don't think what you originally asked for is actually what you wanted - or I interpreted your question incorrectly.
Wouldn't that be equivalent to having the same thing done in a software-controller?
If it's groundbreaking in hardware, wouldn't it be relevant in software?
Sorry, I don't quite follow you here...
I play live with about 400 songs as potential repertoire.
Ok, so you are indeed playing backing songs under a timeline, not just using Mainstage to play live instruments, yes? Or do you mean you know and can play from those songs, and are not using sequenced parts? (it's all live)
If the former, that obviously makes it more complicated. Ableton Live has a better toolkit for this stuff in general as it's designed from the get go as a live, don't stop performance tool, whereas Logic is a more conventional DAW - which in some ways makes it unsuited to live use.
    Midifiles "converted" to audio
Ok - so you are playing back audio files - presumably you are currently using Mainstage and the audio playback module to play the backing tracks in stereo, yes? Or are you using Logic for this?
When I want to play a song with backingtracks, I want to press one button and everything gets ready.
Sure - so the simpler, and more bulletproof the rig is, the better. (Ie, it's good to cut down on the amount of different programs that have to run, open files etc etc.)
Whether I play with backingtracks or 100% manually I need some sounds and fx to be present all the time. I need a vocal reverb and a bass-sound to be present all the time.
    Sure.
"On top of that" I need to switch between songs containing backingtracks and miditracks controlling my stagepiano-patch, my synth-patch and muting/unmuting my vocal reverb at the exact right time relative to the backingtracks.
So if I understand you, you are playing audio backing tracks, but also want sequencer control of the other stuff to set up patch/FX changes at preprogrammed points in the song? If so, then Mainstage as you know cannot do this. This leaves you two options - run both Mainstage and Logic at once - Mainstage for the live stuff, Logic for the preprogrammed stuff - this will work, but is more complex, and uses more resources than just a single program - or, run the whole lot in Logic and find a good workflow to switch your backing tracks.
The former should be fairly straightforwrd with a few gotchas, and you'd use the IAC bus to get Logic to remote control Mainstage.
The latter Logic-only solution is trickier - the main problem being you want to run live in one song, but be able to quickly choose different backing tracks. There are a number of ways to accomplish this. Just having a quick think about it, I would probably pull in all the backing track audio files, and appropriate MIDI parts (patch changes etc), and put each in a folder on the main arrange page.
I'd solo safe the live instruments, vocal and FX channels, and then enable solo mode. Now, by selecting a particular track, I'm soloing that entire backing track item (audio + sequences) and can there fore play it. I'd map the various track selection up/down commands to my hardware keyboard so I could select them quickly. I'd also route the live MIDI playing (keyboard/software instruments) away from the sequencer object o the destination instruments directly so it's not affected by the currently selected arrange track.
There are other ways of rigging it up, but that gives you an example.
I understand Logic as a "single layer" application.
One song active at a time.
Yes (well, technically you can load multiple songs, or use OnStage to switch between songs), but one song is active at any one time. What a "song" actually is though, is up to you. One song doesn't have to correspond to one backing track. As I demonstrated above, my example setup has all the backing tracks in your one live "song" - and this is similar to how Mainstage would be set up. Like I say, everything you can do in Mainstage you can do in Logic, though sometimes not quite as easily.
Mainstage offers that basic layer, plus additional layers.
A software version of my hardware rack.
Are you saying that is possible in Logic?
Yes, Logic can do all this. Everything you can do in Mainstage you can do in Logic (apart from the looper plugin in Mainstage).

  • I have Antares Autotune 7 with 64 bit compatibility already loaded onto my iLok USB key. How do I import the plug-in onto Logic Pro X?

I bought the update today because I was told that Logic Pro X needed 64 bit version of Antares Autotune 7. Now that I have bought and downloaded the license onto my iLok USB key, how do upload the plug-in onto Logic Pro X?

Have you installed the actual Audiounit (AU) plugin via it's installer, onto your Mac?
The iLok does not have the actual plugin on it... Just some code that the plugin checks... as part of its anti piracy system.

  • Want to import very old songs into Logic Pro 9

I cant open my old songs in Logic Pro 9.
Logic asks me to open them in a earlier version 7.2. or older.
Does anyone know a different way, a converter tool or something?
If not where can I possibly download an older version of Logic?
I have more than 80 songs and dont want to lose them.
    Thanks a lot in advance....

    hi there,
as far as im aware and what i have had to do in the past is open in logic 7 then save at that version, in order to open in versions 8-9
im afraid you would have to install 7 or track down the install discs, unless you have them to hand.
bear in mind you will need the dongle that comes with 7 if you want to run it
    cheers t

  • Is anybody else getting external MIDI clock tempo issues using Logic Pro 9 and OSX Lion 10.7.5?

I am having really serious tempo issues when sending midi clock to any external device - The tempo wavers and alternates around 5 bpm above and below the tempo set, and to be frank is totally unuasable when trying to clock arps from hardware synths.
I have the problem both with Logic and Ableton LE, as well as through both my MOTU Ultralite and Focusrite Liquid Sapphire 56 interfaces. I am therefore presuming this is a MIDI issue with the actual computer (MacBook pro, bought new last september).
I moved to Mac from PC, so I'm not totally up to scratch with the Mac architecture yet - can anybody shed any light on why this is happening? It's driving me mad!

    Pancenter,
Yes.. I do see the occasional minor variations much like yourself when I sync up to my Oasys or more usually the Motif... to a fair sized and complicated project,,. Maybe +/- 1.. or on rare occasions +/- 2 bpm... but nothing close to the OP's +/- 5 bpm experiences...
It actually got better for me when I installed 10.8.x... along with the newest Motu drivers.. and in fact I can't remember the last time I had any unworkable issues with syncing though admittedly I haven't done that much syncing recently.
I do have a project coming up in the next 10 days..  that will require me to use the Oasys synced to Logic so I'll make a note of any issues i have and post back if any occur.
As an aside, I have recently been doing a lot of work with iPad Instruments and Arp Apps and Logic... and the sync as been rock solid over USB...

  • Imported 1h 20m file into Logic Pro 7.1.1.it Became Unstable

Imported an hour and twenty minute file into logic, and it became really unstable. i tried to cut the region up, and save the clips as differnt files, but it wouldn't let me stopped playing the file after a certain bar (bar 57).
    is this normal behavior?

Try trashing Logic prefs. (Or move to desktop to re-import keycommands)
