Importing Motif Patches directly into Logic EXS24 in Logic 9

Hi,
Anybody ever imported the Motif Sounds into EXS24? I know I can route them into Logic, but I would like to be able to access them directly through EXS24. It's mainly for orchestra. So I'm happy to record one note at a time for each instrument.
Thank you?

  • Can I record vocals directly into Logic Pro X with my Tascam DR 680?

I'm connecting via the USB port on the Tascam. I opened up my "Devices" list under "Preferences" in Logic but it doesn't seem to be registering. I thought there might be a driver out there or some other way to make this work.
If anybody has any suggestions I will be greatly in your debt.
    -Josh

Hi Jos, you can't interface the Tascam DR 680 like that (USB) to the Mac I think. It's not an audio interface but a more ore less dedicated stand alone recording/playback  unit. You could try importing the audio data into Logic, but as far as direct recording via usb goes….. I don't think so.
A rather clumsy way to achieve your objective, if you must, would be a signal flow like that:
mic -> Tascam DR 680 -> Tascam OUT (digital/analog) -> audio interface / mac  (digital/analog) IN -> rec in Logic
    Have a nice day!

  • How do I capture tape-based media to my external hard drive?  There is only one firewire 800 port on the back of my I mac.  The manual says to import tape footage directly into fcpx, but then I lose my external hard drive.   thanks for your help.

In FCP X How do I capture tape-based media (hdv clips)- which I want to import-to my external hard drive?  There is only one firewire 800 port on the back of my I mac.  The FCPX manual says to import tape footage directly into final cut, which works, but then I lose  my external hard drive    Do I  have to import it into an event, then copy it over to an external hard drive?  On Larry Jordan's tutorial, he has 3 external hard drives that show up on his monitor WHILE he imports his tape based media.  How is that done?  I can only get either the camera to appear OR my external hard drive.   thanks for your help.

Thanks for your response, but that doesn't solve the problem.  Yes, the LaCie hard drive has 2 firewire ports-
I have always done what you suggest (works fine in FCP7), but in FCPX when I do that the camcorder icon
does not appear.  It only shows up when I DIRECTLY import the footage via firewire.  ????

  • Importing A-Dat tapes into Logic

I have lots of 8 –track Adat tapes of recording sessions that I’ve done for the last 10 years or so. The recording session were for various Jazz projects. I have rough mixes from those sessions that I’ve been able to listen to. But, I don’t have a A-Dat player. So the original A-Dat tapes have gone un-used for some time.
The thought occurred to me that maybe I can import the a-Dat tapes into Logic and mix and master them on my own. The thing is that I’m not totally sure of the “best” way to go about it.
At the moment, I am using a small Firebox interface. I suppose that I would need to get a larger 8track interface like maybe a Firepod? I would also need to buy a A-Dat machine. I’ve seen these on E-Bay for a couple of hundred. I would imagine that I would take each of the 8 A-Dat track to a separate input on the Firepod, create 8 new audio tracks in Logic, press record in Logic and press play on the A-Dat?
Is that it? Or is there a proper way to do this that I don’t know about?
    Thanks,
    Morris

    Hi,
Yes you can definitely import your ADAT tapes into Logic.
Here's how to solve the issue:
1.You should buy an ADAT tape machine, make SURE you get the right one,as the newer one recorded at 20bit,and the older(blackface)only did 16bit.This part is crucial.I would probably recommend you get as newer an ADAT machine as possible, and look for low head hours too.
2.Buy an audio interface that supports the ADAT lightpipe format.Usually this can be from a cheap box to an expensive one.Just make SURE it does support the ADAT standard.
3.Buy 2 ADAT optical lightpipe cables long enought to connect the ADAT machine to your audio interface. You WILL need both cables to ensure correct digital audio synchronization.
4.You will need another interface, such as a Unitor8mkii or a Motu MTP/av USB model,in order to slave Logic to you ADAT machine via MMC protocol. Please refer to chapter 19 Synchronization page 605/619 of the Logic Pro reference manual to learn how to sync Logic to the ADAT.
5.Yes,you would be able to record ALL 8 ADAT channels at once,in one "pass".
Just make SURE you read the manual in step 4 thoroughly and test your setup BEFORE recording,to ensure you are doing it correctly.
    Cheers

  • Recording Streaming Audio Directly into Logic 8?

Is it possible to record streaming audio directly into Logic 8. I would like to grab some sound bites from web sites and various other places and lay them down as Audio tracks in Logic 8.
I know WireTap Pro will do it for $30 but I wonder if I could just do it in Logic.
Again, thank you for your time.

    Bee Jay wrote:
Or you could also use the loopback trick and just plug your interface's outputs >into it's inputs - be careful of your routing to avoid feedback though...
Hi Bee Jay .. I wonder if you would mind advising on this setup:
Normally I hear everything that comes out of the computer via the following route:
Out of computer via Firewire and into Motu828
Then out of Motu 828 and into Mixer channels 1 & 2 which are set to Monitor only. ie I hear all audio ( including streaming audio from computer) through my monitor speakers and the signal does not go back into Logic.
All the other mixer channels (3 - 16) I use for recording. Mics and line inputs routing these back into the MOTU (and then the computer) by buttons on the individual channel of the mixer. ie If the button is up on a particular mixer channel it comes out the speakers and does not record in Logic. If the button is down then that channel records into Logic (via a loom into the MOTU).
I was warned on no account to press the buttons down on channels 1 & 2 ( because those were the main outs to monitor Logic's signal ) ...
But that if I *switched off the channel output in Logic channel strip* - then I could press down those buttons on Channel 1 and 2 and route whatever audio was coming out of the computer ( iTunes, You Tube etc) back into Logic to record.
I did this some time ago and it worked ... but for some reason, now even though I have the Logic Channel outputs switched off, I still get the most horrendous howling feedback if I try to record Streaming Audio or iTunes.
If you or anyone else has advice on what would be causing this, I would be most grateful

  • How to Import Yamaha Motif XS 8 Patch Names into Logic?

    Hello -
I am a new user of MAC plus Logic. I just installed Logic Studio with Apogee ensemble. The virtual instruments are working great and I am able to browse the patch names by banks and catagories. Just downloaded a logic patch file from yamaha site for my Motif XS 8 Synthesizer. The has a .LSO extention. When I click on the file, the logic environment window opens up and I can see the patches. How do I import these patches into my project environment.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Open up the source song, the one you downloaded with the environment (old Logic songs were *.lso files).
You'll probably see an environment window, showing a multiinstrument - it's this that has the bank messages and the patch names defined.
Select the multiinstrument, and edit -> copy.
    Now close that song.
Open up your default startup template song (the "destination" song), open the environment on a layer of your choosing, and select edit -> paste, to paste that multi-instrument into the environment of this song.
Change the MIDI port on that multi-instrument so it's sending to the port your hardware is connected to. Close the environment window, and resave the song as your startup template.
(You may wish to preassign the 16 multi-instrument sub MIDI channels to arrange tracks if you are regularly sequencing them, to save time so these are already assigned to tracks when you start.)
Now for every song you start, it will have your setup for the Motif.
    Does that help?

  • Importing patch names into Logic Express

Anyone know of a utility that will allow me to get the patch names out of my hardware synths and into Logic?

Yes, but the utility built into Logic is a simple cut/paste from a text file. I have 6 synths each with multiple banks and a lot of custom patches. Even if I could find the patch lists in .txt format it would still be a lot of typing. There has to be a better way. I've seen PC software that can pull patch names directly from synths via sysex. Logic can't do this as far as I know so I'm looking for a 'helper app' that can. I know Sound Diver used to be a way of doing this but as far as I know it's pretty much dead.

  • Is there some way to import image files directly into an open document?

Is there some way of importing a series of image files, say jpegs, directly into an open document, rather than having to open all the image files and having to drag and drop each individual one into the open document? Specifically, I'm a dentist and I often get digital xray images emailed to me from other offices. But they come as 16 or 18 individual image files and I have to put them into a virtual "xray mount", so I can view them all at once, rather than having to open all the images and toggle among them. So I open a blank document in PS (CS4), then I navigate to the folder containing all the image files I received, select all of them and open them all. Back in PS, I now have to select each image tab and drag the image into the blank "mount" and close the image. That new image then becomes its own layer in the "mount" document. But I have to repeat this 18 times for each patient! I was thinking if there was a way to open the new "mount" document then select all the image files and somehow "import" all the image files directly into document - essentially "automate" the process - that'd save me BOATLOADS of time and aggravation! Anyone out there have any suggestions? Thanks alot!! Dr. G.

Thanks, Curt! When u say "animate" do u mean File | Automate...? Inside Automate, I can't find "Make Frames from Layers"...if you do mean "Animate" I can't find that menu. Zeno replied with a BRILLIANT clarification:
<<Yes, but after you've got all your images as layers in a new document you can simply Select->All Layers and then drag them all to your document in one fell swoop.>>
I tried that and it works like a charm! I select all 20 layers in the new document that "stacking" creates and just drag them all onto the virtual "mount" document. That's it! Then I just move each of these layers around as I would otherwise...it's just 1 click and 1 drag/drop. Unless someone comes up with a way to actually "import" all the images directly into the "mount" document, I think this appears to be the most efficient route to follow.
I really appreciate your guys' assistance! It's so great that you guys monitor the forum and help us out with our Photoshop problems! What an awesome program it is, right?
    Thx again!

  • New Iphone: Can I importa vcard file directly into Icloud?

    Hi,
a friend of mine is getting a new Iphone and want's to migrate all adresses from the old Nokia phone to the Iphone.
The export of the adress data into a vcard file is not a problem.
Can she import the vcard file directly into icloud.com? to go through a Mac Adressbook is not an option as she's a windows user.
    Thanks a lot,
    Markus

You can manually enter new contacts via iCloud.com but there isn't an option to import. I tried dropping a v.card onto the browser, it indicated it might work but didn't

  • How to import East West Library into Logic

I bought the East West Quantum Leap Symphony Orchestra library and wondering if anyone can tell me how to import it into Logic 9, please help! Thank you!

Hey Mike sorry its just a matter of habit that i say VST, it is the AU version and I am running and Logic 9.1.5 in 32 Bit mode... i think there is something wrong with the auvaltool as it keeps crashing... currently on the phone to apple support atm so will post back here if and when i get the fix for it... Cheers for the help ... Ps EW tech support just told me to uninstall then re-install, as if i hadn't tried that a few times and it still didn't install... so have reverted back to Play version 2 for EW off my Start-up HD so at least i can use them as stand alone device... Thanx again

  • Help needed. Can I import MTS files directly into FCE?

I am currently using iMovie, but iMovie doesn't recognise the .MTS files that my Panasonic AG-HMC41E produces.
I was thinking of upgrading to Final Cut Express, but I don't know if that will solve the problem or not.
Can anybody confirm that FCE will enable me to directly import .MTS files?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

As far as I have heard, transcoding to Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) makes a file that scarcely looks different from the original MTS; I should remind you that if you were able to ingest the MTS files directly into iMovie or Final Cut Express, they will do the same thing - transcode to Apple Intermediate Codec; they're just doing it within the interface of a capturing process. When they are ready for editing, they are now AIC. An app like Streamclip or ClipWrap is just helping you get this done outside of FCE or iMovie.
ClipWrap 2 can rewrap your mts file as a MOV and leave it untouched - quality is the same. However, FCE won't edit that without having to render a lot. It's best to transcode it to AIC.
There is a higher quality codec than AIC, called ProRes, but only Final Cut Pro can edit this.

  • Import BPAV files directly into FCPX?

I have downloaded XDCAM Transfer and Sony Drivers from software.  I can't get FCPX to import BPAV files directly to the program.  running trial version
    Advice?

First, I mark a clip I want to use as OK - this gives it a blue tag so I can identify the clips I have processed.
I don't really have time to go through it blow-by-blow, but if you mark a clip in and out in the preview window, you can right-click on it and choose "Make new clip from selection" (or words to that effect).
When you do this, a new clip is created from the in and out points on your clip and by default, appears at the end of your thumbnails in the browser (identify it by the blue tag). You can repeat this as many times as you like with different parts of the master clip - and then delete the master.
This reduces the size of clips in the BPAV folder and of course, they are already rough-edited when you import into FCP X.
To create XDCAM files from the BPAV stuff, simply select the clips and then click the "Register for Final Cut Pro" icon.
Where the files go, is dictated by whatever you choose in preferences.
I'm no expert with XDCAM Browser, so unfortunately, every file I "Register for FCP" appears to have a duplicate MXF file - I ignore or delete these (not found out how to avoid or use them yet).

  • Import 8mm movies directly into Elements 12

Curious to know if it is possible to directly import 8mm movies via a camcorder, through a Canopus ADVC110 analog to digital converter device, directly into Premiere Elements 12?  If so, how would that be accomplished, and what are the settings necessary for optimal quality?

Yes you can but I recommend (and always use myself) WinDV or Exsate DV Capture Live. There are no settings in PRE that affect the quality of DV import as it (and the other two tools I've mentioned) capture the complete raw video stream from the digitizer. It is the settings on the digitizer that can affect the quality of that stream and, frankly, I find the Canopus manuals so unhelpful and poorly written that I've always just gone with the defaults.

There are "free download" EXS presets - look at the bottom of the [home page|http://www.vengeance-sound.com/eng/indexes/indexFreeSounds.html] "Vengeance EXS Presets" and download.
