  • Trouble Importing Motion Projects into DVD Studio

I’m in the process of creating a Demo DVD and I was looking to use Motion to create menus and transitions in DVD Studio Pro. Every time I try to import a project I get an “Incompatible Format” error. My roommate’s iMac G5 imports Motion projects with no problems. I called Applecare to get help and was told Motion was bad and to reinstall it. I did and it didn’t work. (It was also suggested that my video card might not be good enough. Doesn’t make sense though because my roommate’s iMac does the trick.) I called back like I was told and was informed by another guy that I don’t have support available to me because the complimentary phone support expired last year. What is the world is wrong? Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m game for a complete hard drive wipe if it’ll fix the problem? My specs are below. Here are the specs of my roommate's computer:
    Processor: 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5
    RAM: 1.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Video Card: ATI Radeon X600 XT, 128 VRAM
    Software: Final Cut Studio Academic
    Please help me!!
    ~Thanks

One more thing, I tried opening up my project no DVDSP on my roommate's computer and it worked. His own project worked too. I brought the same files over to my computer (I opened the files both time off my thumbdrive, so they're the same files, not copies) and I got the same "Incompatable Format" error.
I also cannot import Motion projects into FCP either, but both my roommates can.

  • Importing Motion Files to FCP

I've searched for this problem and have yet to find a thread with a conclusion - please point me in the right direction if I've missed it.
I'm running Motion 3.0.2 and FC Pro 6.0.6 along with OS 10.4.11. I'm due to upgrade all these asap - but as I'm in the middle of a long project I'm holding back. I've never been able to import Motion files into FCP either by using Import or dragging into the browser - I get a "File Error: Unknown File" message. Instead I make a QT file and work on that. Usually I don't have many files in a sequence so that's never really ben a problem.
However, I've now putting together some much longer sequences and it's a pain when shots need tweaking to have to re-make QTs each time.
I've trashed both Motion and FCP preferences without luck. I have Snow Leopard sitting waiting to be installed. Could that fix the problem? Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Andy

    hi,
seem to remember someone else having this problem, have you repair permissions etc on your system. Can you double click a motion file for it to open from the Finder. Does the Finder know they are Motion files and should be opened by Motion? er can't think of anything else

  • Importing Motion into FCE makes it crash

I've been trying to work out some problems with Final Cut Express (FCE). Through a long process I think it may have to do with Motion. FCE was crashing at startup when on cue it said "profiling for RT Extreme. Basically after reinstalling FCE, only sequences without Motion files worked and FCE would crash if I try to drop in or import Motion files.
I've included the posts I made in the FCE discussion:
"I've been using FCE HD for the last two years without any problem. If anything, it was nothing but a little trashing of the preferences ot fix the problem. But yesterday morning, I started FCE up. The startup window with through everything like normal. It reminded me that I didn't have any decks connected. I clicked "Continue". The next thing that it said it was on cue was "Profiling for RT Extreme". I heard the processor sputter and the fan kick in. Saw the bright colored wheel of paralysis and the program crashed. I trashed the preferences and restarted the computer. Later I trashed anything temporal and related to Final Cut Express and zapped the PRAM. I saw on one board that possibly it was the permissions. So I went through and verified and repaired all the disks and permissions. Yet nothing has changed the impeccable crashing. I'm ready to reinstall the software but unfortunately I can't find my disks at all. So anyone got some advice."
"Here's an update and a whole new set of questions:
In effort to get back to work and try to finish a project by tomorrow, I called a friend and got his FCE HD disks, did a full uninstall, a full reinstall, and used my password. It started up just fine. I got my plug-ins and settings up and running and then started to work again, thinking all was fine. Opening any recent project made it crash immediately. I worked backwards through my autosave until I found a file that opened (which was hours of editing before all this happened). So I opened it, did some quick rendering. Then this project had a few Motion files that weren't in the project yet, so I tried to import them. Immediately the system crashed. Any Motion file will make it crash. Though, they open fine in Motion. So this makes me wonder if the reason it was crashing before is based on the Motion files which may have been a problem for FCE and its "Profiling For RT Extreme". So maybe why my sequences would make the system crash is based on the Motion files within in them. Hmmm. Any ideas on this Motion sickness?

Export it as a movie file with the settings consistent with your sequence settings

  • How do you import motion 5 documents to FCPX?

how do you import motion 5 documents to FCPX?

Yes it is 64-bit.  I'm still getting used to that and have see it does make a difference.  I am at work at the moment so I cannot run the conversion utility, but that looks promising.
On a related/similar note, before work this AM. since the catalog conversion failed, I decided to try to import all my images.  They are sitting on an external hard drive.  The good news is that when I started the import, PE13 recognized the tags that were assigned in PE5.  That was very important to me.  .
So, it looks like I may have two feasible paths to follow:
    1.  Re-import all the images and re-use my tags
    2.  Run the 64-bit catalog conversion utility and import/restore my catalogs
I frankly cannot tell which option is easier, better or preferred.  My objective is to get back to an arrangement whereby I can view all my photos in the organizer (by catalog).  My catalogs are quite simple.  Most all images were in a base catalog.  I was running on a 2006 WinXp machine using PE5.  The catalog had ~ 30000 images.  It was bogging down when I'd scroll through the catalog.  I recently created catalog #2 for some special activities (I.e., Kids Sports) so that I could view and retrieve them easily.  I might have 1000 images in this catalog.
My preferred viewing is to see everything in one catalog, and use tags to segregate them for specific viewing/usage.  I suspect that has a performance impact.  Any thoughts on best approach?
    Thank You

  • Color profile off when importing motion proj into FCP

Color profile off when importing motion proj into FCP. Is there a way to set the profile?
    I deleted preferences in FCP.

No, profile do many things. It is a color space. It allows different apps and systems to view colors the same. Also fcp typically works in a tub color space not rgb.

  • Can't importing a Flex project within a Java project

    Hello,
I am taking over an existing project from a vendor that is no longer involved that has a two Flex projects inside of the Java project. I am using the Flash Builder plugin inside Eclipse.  I have checked out the Java project locally and brought it into Eclipse and it builds perfectly.  My issue is in getting Flash Builder to recognize or import the two Flex projects within.  I have tried various methods of adding or importing the Flex project into my workspace but they all break the file structure in one way or another and thus make it impossible to compile in the structure that was set up.  It looks like Flex was set up to build into the webapp/flash/projectname/build folder.  No matter what I do Flash Builder creates other output folders or project folders.  I have tried add project type, import and new.  The original .project and .actionScriptProperties files are there but Flash builder seems to ignore them and create new ones elsewhere.
The file structure looks like this:
    javaproject
         src
              main
                   Flex
                        flexprojectone
                        flexprojecttwo
                   java
                   resources
                   webapp
                        flash
                             flexprojectone
                                  build
                             flexprojecttwo
                                  build
                        internal
                        lib
                        themes
                        WEB-INF
    Thank you

  • How do I import an Iphoto Project (book) directly into Aperture 2?

I have a book that I did as a project in iPhoto '08 that I would like to import directly into Aperture 2 and "redo" the book using Aperture's new features.
Although I imported my iPhoto library I don't seem to have this project in Aperture and when I look to export the project from iPhoto it wants to export it as a movie.
Since the photos from iPhoto are in Aperture I figured that importing the iPhoto project would be easy. I don't want to recreate the book again if I can help it - I just want to import and modify it in Aperture.
Is it possible to do and can anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks,

You CAN completely customize the text in iPhoto books, including left/center/right justifications, and it is fairly easy. Here's the workaround:
    1) In your iPhoto book (or calendar or whatever) layout, highlight the text you want to modify or change its alignment.
    2) Launch TextEdit and open a blank document. Paste the text from iPhoto into the document.
    3) Still in TextEdit, highlight your text. Using ordinary word processing methods, modify or realign your text as desired. When satisfied, highlight the customized text and copy it.
    4) Back in iPhoto, paste the newly modified text you just copied from TextEdit into the desired text box, overwriting (or deleting first) the original text. All the modifications you made in TextEdit should apply.
This trick can work wonders for helping make an iPhoto book completely your design.

  • Error while importing an existing project into workspace

    hi,
I am trying to import an existing project into workspace but getting an error 'vfamilychange' doest not have a .project file .But while checking into the folder structure of project vfamilychange' shows the .project file is already there.
    Please do suggest.

    Hi,
To correctly use the project in a new NWDS. Please use the following method (for Windows XP only):
1.) Navigate to the projects folder. This will be in the "DC" or "Local Development" folders in your "Documents and Settings" folder.
2.) Inside the project folder you will find an "_comp" folder.
3.) Zip this entire folder with WinZIP or WinRAR.
4.) Finally goto the new PC / Location of export. Unzip this archive into a new Folder.
5.) Open NWDS. Goto File->Import->Existing Project into Workspace.
6.) Select your folder (where you extracted the archive).
    Hope that helps.
    Thanks.

  • Imported iMovie HD project clips have incorrect capture date - add-on info

People converting their .dv files from the iMovie HD style into iMovie 09 style report some frustration at having to rename their clips to view them properly. For discussion, see:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1344628
Fortunately, within the thread, a kind soul has posted a solution - many thanks. This posting is an add-on to that thread, posted here because that thread is archived.
Unfortunately, I could not understand the instructions fully, so I spent some time working out how to make it go, since the solution requires something beyond the usual drag-and-drop to work.
*To Convert the Dates and Names of DV Files from iMovie HD to the Event-Date Format of iMovie 09*
    1. Download and Unzip the DVRecordingDate file. It produces a folder with four items: COPYING.txt, DVRecordingDate.class, README.txt and DVRecordingDate.java. None of these should be double clicked.
    2. Identify the folder that has your iMovie 6 .dv files. These files will be entirely renamed, so if they are used in any other projects, only work on a copy of them.
    3. Launch the program Terminal - it's in the Utilities folder of the Applications folder
    4. When you see a prompt ending in a $, type +cd /Users/yourname/Downloads/DVrecordingDate-1-1.0+,
where /Users/yourname/Downloads/DVrecordingDate-1-1.0 is the folder containing the downloaded DVRecordingDate file. This will change the prompt that appears on every line, but it will still end with a $.
(HINT: you can get the path name of this folder by selecting it in the Finder, and choosing copy. All you then need do is type cd in Terminal, and paste the rest in.)
Now is when we rename the files - as stated elsewhere, the Finder creation date is NOT changed - it is only the file name that changes. However, this is enough for iMovie 09 to understand when the file was recorded, and where it should be stored within the events system.
    5. At the $ prompt, type +java DVRecordingDate -rename /Users/yourname/Movies/iMovie\ Events.localized/myholiday/Clip\ *.dv+, where +/Users/yourname/Movies/iMovie\ myholiday/+ is the name of the the folder that has your iMovie 6 .dv files. Again, this can be copied from the Finder, and pasted in after typing java DVRecordingDate -rename. The *.dv part os to ensure the program coverts all your files in the folder.
    A list appears:
    Renaming file(s) from, to:
    /Users/yourname/Movies/myholiday/Clip 01.dv clip-2003-08-31 20;37;41.dv
    /Users/yourname/Movies/myholiday/Clip 02.dv clip-2003-09-04 18;43;26.dv
    /Users/yourname/Movies/imyholiday/Clip 03.dv clip-2003-09-04 19;00;50.dv
    etc
and in the Finder all the files are renamed.
And that's it. You can now import the .dv files into iMovie 09 and it will give the files their proper dates within the system.
Hope this saves someone some time...

No, I mean that when I import old iMovie projects into iMovie 08 the 'capture date' of footage is not correctly imported (the .dv file creation date is read in instead). Sorry to confuse the issue with the comment about the camera: I just meant to say that all the equipment I used in my setup is fairly standard yet there is a glaring bug in this fundamental functionality.
Regarding re-import: it took me ages to originally import my dv tapes to the computer & not really practical to go through that again.
FWIW, I've not yet imported anything from dv directly into 08

  • Problem import to "New project" in 3.1.2?

After update to 3.1.2 import to "New Project" has started to show unexpected behaviour. Some pictures won't show in one project.
Ex import creates two new projects"apr 23, 2011" and "apr 24, 2011". apr 23 shows all photos as it should. arp 24 do not show any photos. If I hover the mouse over the apr 24 project it indicates that there are "2 Versions" there should be 7 Versions?
Both projects are in an Album structure "2011->April". When I select the whole album "April" I see the "missing" photos.
I can create a new project and move the photos to it. That works.
Anyone seen this in 3.1.2? It may be in older versions as well - but I just recently started noticing this.
    /regards Roger

It could've been. I'm not very satisfied with how "Automatically split" correlates the date of the image with the date of the project. Oftentimes the last couple of pictures of the day (and not really late at that) gets assigned to the next day, and more often the first pictures of the next day gets sorted into the previous days project.
I'm using iPhone and a couple of Canons. And I have checked the time on all of them recently as we changed to "Daylight Savings Time" not long ago. But I would have thought that that only would affect pictures taken around midnight, give or take an hour. And even so I'm only off GMT by an hour or two. Not many of my photos gets taken between 2200 and 0200 :-)
But for the last incident I'm quite sure it has little to do with time as those photos that didn't show as expected were shot in the afternoon.
And further clarify - during import I saw the photos under the correct date/project, blue tickbox and all. ANd they got imported into Aperture. Only they fail to be visible when I select the project where they were supposed to go. On one occasion they re-appeared after re-start of the application. But on another (other photos/in another project) did not. And re-start Aperture after import just to continue to work is not a good workflow for me ...
    /Roger

  • Aperture 3.3 "import folders as projects" broken

    Dear all,
I am attempting to "import folders as projects" after upgrading from 3.2 to 3.3, and it breaks EVERYTIME. I am attempting to import from an external USB3 HDD which was formated for mac properly, and checked and rechecked using the disk manager etc. It works fine (and is brand new)
I have repaired permissions, repaired database and rebuilt database with no effect.

    Thank you for your reply,
I can confirm that the images are all ok, and I did break the folder up in to smaller bite size segments, with no luck. It only happens when I try to import "folders as projects" as I have since successfully imported some of these folders the long way (folder by folder).
I tried moving some of the folders to my local HDD, with no luck.
I have turned off "scan for faces" too, with no luck. I will now see what hapens when I get rid of the "generation of previews" and see what happens.
The crash happens almost immediately upon starting the import... I will keep you posted.
    Many thanks

I acquired Aperture 3 a week ago and decided to give it a try. I've been using Lightroom since version 1. All my photos are in NEF (Nikon RAW) format and stored on an External HD. I used the A3 option FILE > IMPORT > FOLDERS AS PROJECTS command and selected folders from year 2008, 2009, 2010...this are 109 folders (13401 photos) from a total of 348 from year 2003 to date, meaning I am importing a fraction of all photos.
A very important note: I use the import option "Store Files: In their current location"...so that A3 is not moving, copying and so on, any files - it's just referencing them.
The problem starts here - it took Aperture 3 almost 24 hours to complete the "import"...i.e. to fill all the Projects with the corresponding photos. But the IMPORT PROCESS continues forever, today is day 4...the Aperture Library on this has grown to 18 GB and still growing. There is small but constant Hard Disk activity between the External HD with the Photos and the internal HD with the Library.
If I try to quit Aperture I get a message box:
+"Do you want to continue importing? Aperture is currently importing files. If you quit, the import task will be canceled and any files that have not been fully imported will be removed. | Quit | Continue |"+
How much longer shall I wait? Is it really importing or is this a bug? Why is there no progress bar or counter to give an estimate or idea of what is going on?
Just as reference: I imported the same folders (109) into Lightroom 3 Beta with the option "Store Files: In their current location" and it took only 1-2 hours.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Kostadin

    Kostadin,
I'm noticing same thing today. This morning I imported about 100 Canon 7D RAW images from my memory card, which took about 5 minutes upon which I got the "Delete Images and Eject Card?" dialog. I accepted and removed the card.
4 hours later, I still have a "Importing..." spinning ball on Aperture. For the first couple of hours, I was trying to send emails with a few images and it would take 20 minutes for Aperture to generate the JPEG in the email. Now it only takes 10-15 seconds. BUt it is still "importing". So aperture continues to function, but it has some process going which keeps my CPU fans running on the MacBook Pro.
I am anxious to see just how long it takes to IMPORT... after it finishes importing.
What's it doing for this long?
    Jim

  • Help! I can't import iMovie HD project to iMovie 11

I have this project I was working on for hours in iMovie HD (v. 6.0.3), but I wasn't happy with the editing features so I decided to upgrade to iMovie 11. In iMovie 11 (v. 9.0.8), I followed the command of File > Import > iMovie HD Project. Then I selected the project I had been working on with "optimize video" checked and the "Save to" location being HDD.
Once I clicked "Import" I got the following with absolutely no progress bar and no video clips. I have also tried unchecking the "optimize video" box and with different old iMovie HD projects and I always get the same thing: a blank project with no video clips. I also checked for updates for both iMovie 11 and iMovie HD and restarted my computer.
    HELP!

    Hi
iMovie 1 to HD6 - is one product in up-grade
iMovie'08 to 11 - a compleatly different program with no relation to iMovie 1 - HD6 what so ever.
iMovie'08 to 11 are in my opinion no gain at all over iMovie HD6 only a severe loss of functions.
BUT I USE - miniDV tape = interlaced SD-Video and for this iMovie HD6 is the best tool - if one doesn't go for FinalCut Express or Pro (not Pro-X) - as these are realy the best ever done - for my video works.
So I would stay in iMovie HD6 and complete the Movie - or -
Start all over in Video-editor of choice (the one You like)
There are no working transcioding tools to move project over from iMovie HD6 to ANY THING ELSE - Not iM'08-11 or FinalCut any version - transitions, texts and other editings will not travel over in an editable form if at all.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Importing Flex 2 projects in Flash Builder 4.5

I have a decent amount of Flash/ActionScript experience, but I'm brand new to both Flex and Flash Builder... so apologies for asking a potentially stupid question.
I just received a Flex project from a client, and I assumed I'd be able to work on it with my recent install of Flash Builder 4.5
But when I go to File > Import Flash Builder Project and navigate to the Project folder, I just get a warning that says:
“The folder does not contain a valid Flash Builder Project.”
I think this project might have originally been developed in Flex 2. Am I doing something wrong, or is it normal to not be able to import older Flex projects into Flash Builder? If Flash Builder can't import old Flex projects, what's the recommended workaround?

dont import it, do it from scratch in fb4

  • Import Files as Projects makes other projects disappear

    Hi,
I'm new to these forums and new to Aperture. I would really like some help with this issue. I have searched the forums and while I've found one other post with the exact problem no one has posted an answer...I hope for better results.
I work in IT so I am pretty savvy, as such I will try to explain the issue as thoroughly as possible.
ISSUE: I have created Folders at the root level of my Aperture Library. Inside those Folders I have imported pictures with the standard import method, and as expected it has created projects for each import. After realizing that I could import "Files as projects" I tried that option. I had about 9 projects in the folder and after importing "Files as projects" for several new folders I was left with only a few new projects and several of my existing projects were gone. If I click on the folder that contains the projects all the pictures are still there, but the organization of having them in their individual projects was lost.
At this point I started over. Rather than taking the time to import one folder at a time, I decided to try the "Import Folders as Projects" option from the start. I had about 17 folders I was importing and after getting the successful import message I was left with only 8 projects, rather than 17 as expected for each of the folders imported. However, once again, ALL the pictures where there in the root folder.
I tried a third time. I wiped the library clean and started over and I got the same results.
Once again, I'm a new aperture user and I would like to transfer my MANY pictures into Aperture but If I have to import 1 folder at a time then it will take me months. Also I'm not too confident with the Library structure as I don't know if this is a corruption in the Library or another issue. It makes me worried that months down the line when I have all my pictures in aperture I will have to start all over.
Visual of the way I'm trying to organize (Of course there are MANY more projects in each folder):
Canon SD300 (This is a Folder)
    Sample Project 1
    Sample Project 2
    Sample Project 3
    Sample Project 4
Canon 20D (This is a folder)
    Sample Project 1
    Sample Project 2
    Sample Project 3
Canon 5D (This is a folder)
    Sample Project 1
    Sample Project 2
    Sample Project 3
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Hi rwboyer - I just realized that I have read many of your posts on your website regarding organizing your pictures on Aperture, very nice. I have fixed/figured out what was going on....and to tell you the truth I feel kind of stupid I hadn't checked.
ANSWER: In the Projects tab the setting was set to "Recent Projects" as opposed to "All Projects". As soon as I flipped this setting they all magically appeared.
I don't know how Aperture defines "recent" but considering that I imported all at the same time I was not thinking any one project was more recent than another. Oh well it's fixed, I'm happy and very excited to start using Aperture. Thanks again for the response.
