Importing .mov files from computer to itunes

I have tried to drag and drop .mov files in My Documents to itunes, but nothing shows up in Itunes. I then tried to Add File..., found the .mov file and clicked ok but again nothing showed up.
Please help me, I'm so confused what I can do?

Use a program such as MPEG Streamclip to convert them to MPEG-4.

    haben
From looking at the specifications of your camera (SJCam 4000), we know already what video compression your camera is using. It is H.264.
A H.264.mov file should be supported by Premiere Elements 11. On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? And, are you running QuickTime and Premiere Elements 11 from a
User Account with administrative privileges? Please go to Premiere Elements 11 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime to confirm that you find
presets there for the QuickTime choice there.
What are the properties of these H.264.mov files - is it 1080p30 (1920 x 1080p30)  or something else? Do you know if this camera is recording with a variable or
    a constant frame rate?
Please review and consider and then we will decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Can't import .mov files from my camera into iPhoto

I am not able to import .mov files from my kodak camera into iPhoto. It says the file is not readable. Also, if there are any photos after the video file, those are said to be unreadable too, even if I select just the photots for import. I tried to import the .mov file with image capture as well, and that gave me an import error also. I can view the file fine on my camera and iPhoto and image capture both will give me the properties of the video file but will not import. I have imported .miv files before with no trouble. I have tried several different files with the same results. Even tried different memory cards. Not sure how to get this file on my computer or why there is a problem all of the sudden.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
What model of Kodak is it?
There is a discussion thread on this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11942367&#11942367
Try using a media card reader (sometimes built into printers) to see if that allows the import. Others seem to report having luck by importing the movies off the card using a different computer, deleting them, and then importing the pictures.
    Hope that helps.

There are many more hits if you do a search in the forums on those.

  • Unable to import movie files from iphoto '08 into imovie HD

I have recently bought a 2008 macbook (2.2 GHz) and have recently downloaded imovie HD in addition to owning iLife '08 due to its extra capabilities. I have found that I am unable to import any of my movie files from my iphoto library folder as it seems to need to open the actual iphoto application before the files can be accessed. In addition, when not using any specific program it would be nice to be able to access my photo/video files within the iphoto folder without iphoto automatically opening as the default viewer.
    Any ideas??!! Thanks.

.. and I import AVI video clips directly without converting to .dv, without problems.
lucky you.. .avi is just a container, no 'format'/codec .. I can show you dozends of .avis, which will NOT import into iMHD6, due to being playback-codecs, not convertable by the underlying Quicktime engine into separte, editable audio+video streams ..
.. If you convert to .dv, the size just blows up.
dv is 13GB/h and a codec meant for editing; e.g. it stores every frame (video=30 frams/sec) of a recording, as mpegs usually doesn't do so.. = your Mac has to estimate content, when converting and 'recovering' the content = lossy process.
iMHD6 is a dv-editor; the mpeg4 feature is only a toy, to spice up iSight recordings.. for sure, the QTengine can convert a lot, but too much conversion (from one lossy codec, e.g. divx, into another, e.g. mp4) means a (dramatic) loss of pic quality..
    my 5€ cents ..

  • LR 5.3 won't import .mov files from iphone 5s

I'm running Mavericks and LR 5.3 and have had trouble importing video files from my iphone 5s.  All of my software is up to date.  It seems that LR is having trouble connecting to the dynamic link server.  It doesn't work even when I disable my firewall.  I've already purged my video cache in LR.  Is there anything else I should try?

There are many, many posts of this nature in these forums.  See, for example:
    iphoto won’t import mov video
For many, rebuilding the XPC helper cache solves the problem off the bat. In terminal try this, and reboot:
    sudo /usr/libexec/xpchelper --rebuild-cache
The above posted by Andy Ball on a thread related to a similar problem with Aperture:
Re: Import video to Aperture library on Mountain Lion
    Other things to try:
    1. create a fresh iPhoto library and try that.  (hold down opt while launching iPhoto)
    2. create a new OS X user (in system preferences) and try there.
In my case – and many cases – neither of those things work either, which means the problem is system wide.  Again suggesting that the xpc helper solution might work. But for me it did not either.
There are other suggestions that there are conflicts with Perian (on Yosemite) and flip4mac.  In my case uninstalling both of those didn't solve it either.
So maybe one of those solutions will work for you, results apparently vary.  But this is a huge unresolved issue many others are having as well.  I have a case with a senior apple advisor open, still unresolved. His suggestion of course, at this point, is an archive and re-install. I'm not ready to go there yet.
BTW, another thing he had me try was to import the file with Image Capture (which works).  Then open it in QuickTime Player X.  Then try exporting to 480p.  Does QuickTime crash?  It does for me.
    My summary:
    1. Files successfully import with Image Player.
    2. Files play with QuickTime Player X.
    3. QuickTime Player X crashes when exporting to 480p.
    4. Files import with iMove.
    5. Files fail to import with iPhoto (unrecognized format as with OP)
    6. iPhoto import failure/errors are system wide and not specific to a library or a user.
    7. rebuilding xpchelper cache and rebooting in my case does not resolve issue.
    8. same videos import fine in iPhoto on a totally different system (laptop running same versions of OS X 10.10 and iPhoto 9.5.1)

  • Cannot import .mov files (from JVC HM100) into After Effects CS6

    Hi,
I am trying to import .mov files into After Effects CS6.  Unfortunately, when I try to import the .mov files, AE tells me "After Effects error: 210_0001_01.mov cannot be imported -- this '.mov' file is damaged or unsupported."  The file works in Premiere CS6.   I have the latest Quicktime, and even with Quicktime 7 Pro installed, I got that same result.  I would appreciate any advice on this problem.
    Thank you.

I'm going to set up a new sequence with just the clip I'm using after effects on.  I'm going to import that sequence into AE.
Your footage is currently a long-gop codec, which may be giving Mocha fits.  So instead of Dynamic Link, you may want to simply export the clip in question from Premiere using a lossless codec.  Remember to leave handles on the footage.
To get back to Premiere you would then render in a lossless codec.  It's not very handy, but it will get the job done.
Give it a try and see what happens.

  • Importing .MOV files from PC and getting "generic error" msgs... help.

Importing .mov files which I downloaded from my iPhone onto my PC (so getting them from file folder, not directly from iPhone). However, getting "importer is reporting generic error" message with a list of video files that didn't get imported. Some are importing, though, and showing up on the timeline. Downloaded a whole bunch at a time and thought it was the problem. Then just tried one that had the error to test and that one wouldn't either, even by itself.
These are MOV files from iPhone 4 recorded with "stock" camera program on phone. Using Premiere Elements 11.
    Please help.

    Welcome to the forum.
Along with Steve's questions, I have one more:
Did your iPhone shoot with a Variable Frame Rate?
That is common with many of the phone cameras, and especially the iPhones. You can run your file through MediaInfo (for PC), or Media Inspector (for Mac), and then report the FPS (Frames Per Second). If it is constant, it should Import fine. If it is variable, then you might have to convert that to a Fixed Frame Rate. One method is to use Apple's QuickTime Pro (a US $30 upgrade/unlock), and just Import the file into QT Pro, then Export to the same format, but with a Fixed Frames Per Second.
Good luck, and please let us know a bit more.

  • Importing Movie Files From Handycam DCR-DVD108

I'm trying to import video files from the DVD of my Handycam. When I open the DVD icon on the desktop, I'm given the option to open VR_MOVIE.VRO files. But Quicktime won't play them. Does anyone know what application would open the VRO files?? Thank you!

I'm having a similar issue, though mine is a panasonic camera. VLC is able to open (and then export/transcode) the files for me. Anything that involves transcoding before importing definitely counts as a "work-around" rather than a solution in my mind though

MOV files are compatible with iMovie '08 if, and only if, both the audio and video compression formats are "edit" compatible with iMovie '08 and the MOV file container does not contain incompatible extraneous tracks (e.g. a "Tween" track). Kodak, for instance, stores its video clips as MPEG-4 video (compatible with iMovie '08) and µ-Law 2:1 compressed audio (which is not). In this case, all you would need to do would be to convert the µ-Law compressed audio to a compatible compression format like AAC (MPEG-4 audio). Another example would be a slideshow made in iPhoto. In this case a "Tween" track is used to transition between slides but is never removed once the transition is applied and results are re-saved in the MOV container. If you delete or strip out this track, the file then becomes compatible with iMovie '08.

  • Importing .mov files from dslr?

Hey guys, working on a project in FCP. I've wrapped my files from my video cam to pro res 422, I have a few small clips from my dslr that are .mov files. Should I just bring these into FCP and straight to my timeline or do I need to take further steps before importing? Thanks for the help, John

From what I understood, you are working with Footage from two cameras? You already converted the footage from your video camera to ProRes, but you also have footage from a dslr?
I think that you don't need ClipWrap for the dslr, since it is a .mov... Just use compressor for your conversion.
