Importing .mov from Kodak Zx1 Camcorder

Hey.  I contact Kodak but they said to contact Adobe for this problem.  Aparrently I'm not the only one.  When taking video with my Zx1 (in this case, recording in HD 720p at 60fps, though the problem persists for all the different qualities I record at) it records to an SDHC as a MOV file.  When I try to import that into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 it says "File format not supported."    It says this no matter what, even if I change the extension to avi or mpg (actually with AVI it will open only the audio).  Anyway, when I convert the file using SUPER it works almost perfect.  The thing is, I can't keep doing that, it takes waaayy to long and I'm working with many HD files.  Please help.  Thank you.

Harm and Jim, are you guys having a bad month?  You two keep telling people this bit about price/sophistication levels, with no actual technical help for the person, and it's getting a bit odd.
These are the questions/posts that you might possibly stay out of, if you have no detailed contribution.  If he finds a proper codec, PPro will be a wonderful editing realm -- particularly if he has used it before or even simply likes the feel/look of the software.
There is no price/sophistication analogy that fits here, and your comparison to multimeters and all that just seems to be contriving a barrier.  It just doesn't hold water at all.  I could come to your homes and find things from you cars to your razors that you do not use to their fullest capabilities, and it would be the same as your judgment here.  And it would not be 1) fair or 2) MY BUSINESS WHAT YOU BUY OR USE.
Whether this person was offended or not, you did not answer his question (the assumption being that he HAS PPro, wants to use it, and it's not our business to tell him that he shouldn't be if it might work).
To the original poster, if you can find a codec, Premiere Pro will most likely be a wonderful editing environment for you that you can use with lots of stuff in sophisticated or simple ways.

Can I use Final Cut Express 4.0.1. to import movies from Panasonic VDR-D250 via USB 2.0? How? (page in handbook?)
Further specifications of this older camera:

  • Problem with importing movies from my Sony HDR-SR5

Having trouble importing movies from my Sony HDR-SR5. The computer is reading HD camcorder but Iphoto is coming up and not Imovie. I don't have any still pics and SD movies. When I go into imovie camcorder does not show up. Any suggestions?

Did your "Camcorder" ever worked with iMovie? If so, what version were your running?
What version of iMovie are you currently running: iMovie 8.0.5 or iMovie 8.0.6?
What version of the OS are you currently running: 10.6.2 or 10.6.3?

  • Resulting quality - import 1080 from new HD Camcorder

    Hi,
I have been using iMovie for some time, importing DV from my miniDV camcorder. I have never been real happy with the quality although I have followed the tricks shown in this form and others to get around iMovie's deinterlacing issues.
My question, if I purchase a new HD camcorder (looking at the Canon Vixia series), will I see much improvement in iMovie? If not, is there another video editing solution that will give better quality starting with HD source? Keep in mind I do not want to burn Blueray disks -- I am just looking for the quality I get when I show a DVD movie in my large LCD TV -- which is pretty good.
    Thanks.

I'm sorry, I didn't know Imovie has it's own Forum- it's not listed here. Looks like I need an adapter for memory card, because I have an older Mac which doesn't have a slot for the card.

Transfer it to your computer and import into iTunes, make sure it's in a compatible format. Then simply sync with the iPad. If you have a camera connection kit and you know the footage is compatible you can connect it directly.

Hi - I'm having the same problem with freeing up space on the HD. If I can't free space if I'm using any part of the clip, how can I split up the clips so that I can discard the part I won't use? This is crazy! I have only 4 GB of free space left!
Also, I've tried to transfer the project file to my external HD but I keep getting an error saying I can't transfer it. I've been told this is because I don't have enough space on the HD for the transfer. I tried a similar transfer with another computer with plenty of HD space but the same error occurred. Is there a way to break up the project file into small pieces for the transfer (I'm thinking the whole movie file is just too big)?
    Thanks for any info!

How to import movies from imovies to a memory card.

Well, if you mean transfer movies from the iMovie events folder, go to that folder as in Finder-movies-imovie events, and drag a copy to your card.
Or, you could finish making the movie, and drag the .mov file from your desktop or wherever you have it.

cannot import videos from a sony camcorder.

Hi cape_surfers, and a warm welcome to the forums!
UPDATE1: About the MPEG-2 component included with iMovie ‘08
UPDATE2: After raising a stink, I figured that I’d spend a little more time trying to figure out how to make my Handycam work with native iMovie ‘08. Turns out that you have to turn on the camera, wait for OS X pick it up as a USB storage device, and then hang tight for three or four minutes until iMovie detects that your USB storage device is actually a camcorder, and presents the import dialog. I’m glad that I can import native MPEG-2, but am somewhat puzzled by the delay.

  • Can I sync or import movies from VUDU or Flixter into my Itunes account?  If so how do I do it?

Can I sync or import movies from VUDU or Flixter into my Iturnes?  If so how do I do it?

I to would love to know if anyone has found a way to do this.... I purchased several bluray dads, and normally the software gives you the option to use the "ultraviolet" streaming and/or download a copy to iTunes, but these all seem to be Flixter or nothing. I contacted the folks at "UV," "Flixter" and Warner Bros as well, and they all told me "tough luck" on my request to get iTunes versions. Flixter even went so far as to tell me, "...we cannot provide digital copies in every media format for certain films for a variety of logistical reasons." which is total BS, and they know it.
The problem I have is that SOME of these bluray DVDs offer the option of iTunes and other do not, but this is NOT specifically identified on the package -- you really don't have any way of knowing until you open the package and attempt the download. Some will offer you the choice, others will not, but the package, in my experience, never says, 'This will NOT work with iTunes."
This really should be the foundation for a class-action lawsuit against the studios who do this BS "bait and switch" to try to force you to use a less then desirable format or poor quality 'streaming' service. I realize the studios want to make more $$ and that means screwing over Apple/iTunes and by default the consumer, by forcing a shoddy product they make more profit on.... No different than an electronics store pushing you to purchase 'brandX' because it has a higher profit margin for them... except that YOU HAVE THE CHOICE.
Apple could make a killing by accepting their codes for discounts on the iTunes versions... say half-price... just a thought.
But seriously, to all those out there, this really should be put into a class action suit..... I would be on-board.

Looks like it records in AVI format at 25 fps. I think that should import to iMovie OK - if not it should import to iPhoto and then be available in the iMovie Events Library under "iPhoto Videos". Importing shouldn't be a problem based on this extract from the web page:
"The glasses can be hooked directly to a PC with the supplied USB cable to view the video, or when using the Micro SD card, it can be inserted into a card reader to watch footage."
