Importing .mov into FCE

Hello, I just installed Final Cut Express to try and edit videos I capture through the Kodak Zi6 handheld video camera, but when I try to drag and drop into FCE I get an error message saying "Unknown file"?
Any ideas? thanks.

The Zi6 is not directly compatible with FCE, you must first convert its files to something FCE understands.

  • Trouble importing LiveType into FCE

I am trying LiveType for the first time with my video. I have created the file in LiveType and then tried to import it into FCE. When I view the background in the viewer it looks great. When I drag it to my movie and try Insert I get an error that says "Edit Operation had no effect. Check the target tracks. You may need to open the source clip into the viewer in order to see all of the target tracks". It doesn't add it to my timeline. I can drag it to the timeline, but when I preview the video it says unrendered as it plays. It has the red line in the bar above it and everything else in my video is green. I have rendered the video in LiveType and also just tried the LiveType file...
Anyone have any advice? I am sure this is something simple...
    Thanks for your help!!

Appears to be a problem in LiveType and FCE as of Leopard.
LiveType files created BEFORE Leopard was installed import fine, but files created AFTER Leopard was installed will not import and return an error:
File Error. 1 File Recognized. 0 Access Denied. 1 file unknown.
Live Type files that are rendered as movies are importable and that is the workaround. But of course they cannot be edited again unless the Live Type file is reopened and re-rendered.
IOW, no import of a Live Type file directly into FCE.
Pro apps download doesn't appear to apply to FCE and you need a FCP serial # to access it anyway.
    All suggestions appreciated.

  • IMPORTING FOOTAGE INTO FCE AND MERGING FILES WITH FINAL CUT STUDIO

So I recently purchased Final Cut Express to create off-line, rough cut projects...to be completed by more qualified editors other than myself. But I want to make sure that Final Cut Express is the right system for me.
    Here are my questions:
1.) I will be using a variety of video formats for this system, and will be ingesting primarily through a shared media drive. Should I be concerned by the fact that it says I can only use "HDV, AVCHD, and DV" for simultaneous edit? What if I originate my material on Beta or DVCPro and want to import using firewire?
2.) Will my timelines be compatible to other (higher-end) Final Cut programs?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Chip

    Welcome to the forum!
1.) If the video you plan to use is not HDV, DV, or AVCHD then it will not be able to be ingested by FCE. The best way to get your media into FCE would be to capture it, but if it originates somewhere else you can still import it into FCE provided it is one of the formats cited above. If your media is not one of these three, you will have to use a convertor to make it "readable" by FCE. If you want to keep the full resolution of another format, you are better off directly going to Final Cut Pro, as it can handle these formats.
2.) Final Cut Pro will be able to open your Final Cut Express timelines, but you will not be able to go back the other way around. So only let your editors open the project in FCPro once you are done using it in FCE.
If you are planning to shoot professional videos, FCE transcodes into Apple Intermediate Codec, usually giving you lower quality then if you were to ingest the media in FCPro, which uses ProRes for higher quality yet larger file sizes. If you are not worried about the mentioned drawbacks to using FCE as a first-cut before FCP, then you should be fine.

  • Importing movie into Flash

Does anyone have any knowledge of importing movies into
    flash?
I have a movie streaming in my flash file but when some
people open the exe they only see black when the movie should be
showing. And some others can see the movie. Any thoughts?

you can import them as an image sequence, then create a movie
clip out of it. File-->import-->import to stage.. Then select
all the images, and it something should pop up asking if you are
trying to create an image sequence, select yes.

  • Import movies into itune

    Hello,
how can I import movies into itune. I have tried it with many formates but i doesen´t work and it doesn´t convert.
    Thanks

If they are your own private vdieos, it's fine to import them. They need to be in the right format i.e. Quickitme format or MPEG4.
If the are not you need to convert them, here is a link to a free converter, I have not tried it myself so can not vouch for its quality:

  • Import Movie into Logic

    Hi,
I gonna import movie into Logic to b my lip sync and overdub purpose..but i found that it only allow 1 clip to be import,am i right?
How to import more than 1 clip?2..3...clips..
    thanks

The only problem with combining two separate movies is this: if each is striped with timecode, there's very little chance that the timecode will be contiguous as a result. So assuming you're working to t/c, you'll be able to get the first part of the movie to agree with Logic's t/c counter, but not the second (added) part. This may or may not be a problem, but I can't imagine working without t/c that's in agreement all across the board.
The second thing... AFAIK, iMovie works best if the native format of the video is DV. If it's any other format it will mess up the picture big time. QTPro is, IMO, the preferred way to go, and what I continue to use.
However, I do use iMovie to create titles for each clip I send a director (for evaluation, comments, etc.). I write up info re the name of the movie/date/cue#/revision notes, etc. export this as a QT movie itself, and tag it to the beginning of the actual movie before sending it off.

  • Importing DVD into FCE with decent quality

Can anyone tell me what they would do if they needed to import a DVD into FCE maintain decent quality? Not a produced movie, just like a home movie...and I can't afford DVD Pro...
    Thanks very much!

    Hi
    My old list on this
    *DVD back for futhur editing*
    A. don't put a mini DVD into Your Mac unless it’s a trayloaded DVD burner/reader
    B. iMovie’08 prob. 09 can import from DVD (homemade without copyprotection)
    C. I prefere one of these two ways
    • Copy to miniDV tape from set-top DVD-player --> Camera -or-
    • Roxio Toast™ - Can back convert to streamingDV for iMovie or FinalCut
    D. Read what Karsten collected.
    *DVD back to iMovie.*

DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and
made for any processing as editing... or, as honorable forum member
QuicktimeKirk stated. I use the analogy of the old Polaroid
"instant" cameras. Push the button, wait for the print to develop and
    show it off. ..
for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in
recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds.
    • DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro. 90$)
    • Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    • Cinematize >60$
    • Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    • Toast 6/7/8/9/10 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
    • connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
    • Drop2DV (free) a free tool claiming to convert DVDs into dv-stream...
    • Use iSquint for your conversions . www.iSquint.org
    from. Bobby Keene
none of these apps override copyprotection mechanisms as on commercial dvds...

  • Import iMoive into FCE 4.0

I've imported a movie into iMoive 5.0.2 but do not see how these directions for importing the project file into FCE 4.0 are applicable:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61851
Is there a given format that the footage should first be exported as from iMoive? The instructions at the above URL do not seem to state as such.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

The way I read the instructions, you don't export from iMovie at all. In FCE, you go to File->Open and navigate to your iMovie project.
"1. Open Final Cut Express HD.
    2. From the File menu, choose Open.
    3. In the dialog that appears, select the iMovie project you want to open. The iMovie project opens in the Browser and contains the sequence and clips as they appeared in the iMovie clips shelf.
Important: Final Cut Express HD does not import iMovie sound effects, audio levels, or transitions. All other applied effects are imported.
    4. Double-click the sequence to open the iMovie project in the Timeline.
    5. Render the sequence if necessary.
Imported clips are linked to the original clips captured and/or rendered in iMovie. These original clips can be found inside the iMovie project bundle for iMovie HD or in the iMovie project's Media folder for versions 3 and 4.
    Notes:
DV Stream files do not have timecode tracks, so DV media imported from iMovie project files cannot be recaptured.
Imported iMovie DV files might not play back or print to tape in real time without being rendered first.
All imported source media must be backed up for future reediting."

  • Problems importing movies into Keynote

I have been using Keynote for a couple of years (now using Keynote 08 on a MacBook running 10.5.5). I recently started having problems importing movie files into my Keynote presentations. I usually just drag a .mov file and it plays with no problems, but lately when I do this it doesn't appear on the Keynote slide and when I play the presentation I get only audio w/ no video. I tried importing the files to quicktime and exporting them again to be sure they were in the correct format. This seemed to work a few times, but now that isn't working either. Any suggestions?

I'm having what sounds like the same problem. I have Quick Time video from a Flip Cam that I want to use in a KeyNote presentation. I added the movie successfully at first, but when I opened the file to continue work, it appeared as a black box. It has sound, but no image. I can see it ok in the navigator. I've searched the forum for answers, but haven't found anything that works yet.
Does the display setting have anything to do with this? One of the computers I work on has the display set to use with a LED projector. Thanks

  • Importing Movies into iTunes on Mac

I am trying to import a movie into to my iTunes so I can put it on my iPod, how can I import it when it just opens automatically? Anyone know?

    What kind of movie?
    From where?
Copying commercial/store bought dvd's is not legal ( breaking the encryption, which is needed to copy the dvd is illegal).

  • Importing movies into iTunes 11

I'm trying to import a few movies into iTunes.  I used HandBrake to rip them (used AppleTV preset).  Previously, I've imported them by going to Add to Library. But this time it isn't working...  I also tried to drag and drop into iTunes (as per another thread).  When I checked the iTunes Media folder (in home movies) all the movies are there, but they don't show up in Library.  What am I doing wrong?   The only thing I've done differently this time was using the Apple TV preset, previously I've used Regular Normal - could that be the issue????

I was having the same problem today with a m4v file. After a bit of searching around I found that manually putting it in iTunes' "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder did the trick. All of my earlier attempts to drag the movie into iTunes showed up as well (in the Home Movies category). I deleted the extra copies and added my own meta data.
    Found on this site: http://johandry.blogspot.com/2013/01/digitalize-dvds-with-handbrake-for.html
" just copy the movie to the folder 'iTunes Media/Automatically Add to iTunes' located in the iTunes Library folder, usually in the /Users/username/Music folder but you may have it in other location even in an external hard drive. "

  • Echo when I import movie into iDVD

The move is in Quicktime Export-Quicktime movie - Make Movie Self Contained deselected and then I import it into iDVD. The movie starts with a Voice Over and for the first ten seconds there is a decided echo - actually a parallel thread of speech, "My my name name is is..."
I can't figure out what caused this. Worse, I can't figure out a do over.
I play the Timeline and it is fine.
I continue to play the movie in iDVD and after the ten second glitch, that, too, sounds fine.
I'm desperate. Help will be appreciated.

No, the echo is there in Quicktime.
Well, I THINK I rendered everything out.... I hit Sequence -render all-needs render.
Mixed down the audio? How do I do that?
Thanks for the response, Sasha. I know how a guy in the Atlantic feels when he sees a rope snaking down to him. Thanks.

  • Help importing movie into Garageband

When dragging a movie into a Garageband track, the green plus appears but the movie does not appear in the track!
The film appears in my movies tab (as an event) on the right.
I have tried in .mov and .mpeg4 formats, and neither work.  I've also tried importing the file into imovie, and finalising a project - and it still wont accept the video file.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I've tried to drag into an empty track, and it still doesn't work.
Don't drag onto any track - drag into the track area below the existing tracks.
A movie cannot go into an audio track.
