  • Problem in importing MPEG4 video

When I import mpeg4 video using Element 8 I only see the clip as red. I do hear the sound but no video. Any suggestion on how to fix this. Thanks.

Which H.264 CODEC do you have installed? There are three popular ones: Apple's (installed with the later versions of QT Player), Lead's and MainConcept's. Many users report much better results with the Lead, or the MainConcept.

When importing MPEG4 to PPro CS4, Source Panel is perfect but resolution gets terrible on the Program Panel ...
Anyone knows what to do ? When opening "New Project" ?

    Gerard,
While it could be system related (would need the full system specs there), after you check that you have the latest video drivers, Rt-click on your Program Monitor. Choose Quality = Highest and Magnification = 100%. Does that help the preview playback?
Good luck, and if not, please give full system specs,

  • Out of sync sound  when import mpeg4

I've import mpeg4 file from my Flipcam. I just wanted to make tigher ins and outs. But when I pull it into to timeline - the sound is out of sync. Any ideas why?
    Thanks in advance.

MPEG 4 is not an editing format.
Convert your video to one of the codecs found in Final Cut Pro"s Easy Setup menu.
Does this camera shoot HD or SD?

  • Can't import MPEG4//video blackout in YouTube upload?

    Two issues:
    1) I can't import a QT/MPEG4 .mov file to work on as an event. Ideas? It's 4.3 GB...
    2) Have a 1:30 video finished in iMovie, looks great in preview... but when uploaded to YouTube account, all video is gone; audio is fine, and intro and outro title cards on black are fine. Only the footage in between is a black screen, as the audio plays underneath it. Tried uploading again twice. Am I missing something?
    thanks,

    DV is simply "digital video"?
It might be more appropriate to consider it the standard for NTSC/PAL compression/recording for the last decade. Almost every frame level editor will accept and edit it -- including all versions of iMovie, FCE, FCP, and most pro/semi-pro third-party software editors as well. Most DACs (Digital-Analog Converters) for editing convert to DV owing to its universal acceptance.
The Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) is normally used as an intermediate editing compression format for HD content (HDV or AVCHD). I also like to use it for SD content since it is about 22-29% more efficient than DV25 and thus saves a bit of space without much loss in quality.
Can't find anything on your Miglia card (site is currently down for routine maint.) let alone the various compression formats and their stats for capture/storage so I won't try to second guess anything further here. If you don't have QT Pro, would recommend you download MPEG Stremclip (free). Use it to "trim" a snippet from your long "problem" movie, and save it as a separate file. Then try to import the snippet. If it imports then you have a "workaround" and can look into why later. If it doesn't import, try a conversion to any of the acceptable iMovie '08 audio and video compression formats and see if that will import. Once again, you are looking for an immediate "workaround" which will later help identify a specific problem.
Also, while searching, I thought I noted a reference to a "fallback" M-JPEG compression format (again no audio format given). Have you tried it? Also, are you still using Tiger as indicated?
Meanwhile, nothing I check for either Properties in QT (no Pro) or Finder Get Info is just "MPEG-4." If you can explain it on "my" level, is there another layer or corner to look in?
If you don't have QT Pro, you can't access the "Properties" window. You can, however, access the "Inspector" window. What you need to check are the "Format:" entry lines. This should give compression formats for both audio (codec, channels, and sampling rate) and video (codec, encoded dimensions, and color depth). This is where you should start any time a clip does not import correctly.
The Miglia conversion got me a zillion rare & noncommercial & aircheck VHS tapes converted for iDVD burning; seemed like it would continue to be useful as it has.
The unit may still be useful for the purpose of digitizing. The problem here is that the requirements for import have increased one level from merely being "conversion" compatible with iMovie HD to being "edit" compatible for import to iMovie '08. Obviously, any file that plays as is can be re-compressed to to any of the acceptable iMovie '08 compression format. But that means more time lost. In fact, you could always run that long file through MPEG Streamclip to convert it to a DV or Widescreen DV files and it will even properly set the anamorphic flag which iMovie '08 also now requires proper preview during editing and to set the output aspect ratio. (Another change to iMovie.)

  • Import mpeg4 h.264 with FCE

Is it possible the direct import of hd movies mpeg4, codec h.264, 1920x1080 (1080p) with FCE?
I regularly imported these movies with iMovies 09.
    Thanks!

You can't work with this material in FCE without rendering unless you convert the media before you bring it into the application. You can do this with iMovie or most likely with MPEG Streamclip or the QuickTime 7 pro player. The file format will be QuickTime with the Apple Intermediate Codec and considerably larger than the original file size about 12MB/sec, roughly 42G per hour.

  • Importing MPEG4 file into iMovie

    Hello,
I've been trying to import an MPEG4 file into iMovie 09 without success. No matter what the extension (.mov, .mp4) iMovie always displays the file greyed out in the file selector (in the import screen). As a result I can't select it.
I even converted the file into DV format, but with the same result. Is it at all possible to import an MPEG4 file into iMovie, and if yes, can anybody provide me with the exact procedure?
I'm really puzzled because the Quicktime player has absolutely no problem reading the file but iMovie just can't...
    Thanks.

Have you tried converting with an application called mpeg streamclip yet?

You may want to actually read the agreement you make with Apple and the iTunes store regarding the use of material acquired there. A song purchased from the iTunes store gives you the right to listen to it on up to 5 devices. It does not give you the right to utilize it in any syncronized video or other public display - whether or not money changes hands.
Have you negotiated the use rights with the artist already?
What VJK tells is technically correct it is also an illegal act. Let's put it this way - would it be OK for someone to take your work, use it for their purposes and maybe they credit or pay you later?

  • Importing MPEG4 clips slower than HDV tape.

I am using a fairly antiquated laptop to edit HD clips on FCE 4. Is it possible to edit with out rendering all footage into QT files or do I just need a faster computer?
As it stands it takes longer to get MPEG4 clips into Final Cut than it did with tapes as it takes me about 11mins to process a 23 second clip!
Thanks for your help and advice on this.

I recently bought the Sanyo Xacti HD1000 - this is my third Xacti camera and while the standard resolution Xacti's were very nice, the HD1000 is great. I shoot everything at 720P/30 (and now shoot all my stills on the XACTI at 16x9 so they integrate nicely into the videos), and have found a great workflow for getting it into my Intel Macbook. I have finally gotten around to creating a little movie showing how to use MPEG Streamclip to both edit and capture your clips for use in Final Cut and iMovie HD. That is posted here: http://homepage.mac.com/bobhudsoncom/XACTI/iMovieTheater45.html
On the my 2.16 GHz Macbook with 1GB of RAM the clips are imported in realtime or slightly faster than real time. On an older 1.67 GHz Powerbook with 512MB of RAM it took three times realtime, or 30 seconds for a 10 second clip.
However, keep in mind that using the method I show on the video I am only importing trimmed clips so I don't have to wait for stuff that will end up in the trash anyway nor do I need to waste storage space on that.
I also have some original HD1000 camera clips available at that link as well as clip that has been converted to AIC.
Since making HD DVD's is not a reality for most of us, I edit in HD and then make standard definition DVD's and for some movies keep the HD files for future use when HD DVD's become practical (with the very cheap large hard drives these days, it's easy to archive those HD clips).

  • Imported mpeg4 movie but ITunes renamed the file

    Hi
I have converted some DVD's to MPEG4 format and imported them into ITunes but after the import the file name is changed (eg to 33455_2) and ITunes won't let me rename them to the correct movie name. Any idea why this is happening? I am using Magic Movie Converter to convert files from avi to mpeg4.
The movies play fine in Itunes and on my IPOD it's just frustrating not knowing what movie is what until you start to watch them.
    Hopefully someone can help.
    Thanks
    Gary

I have just noticed that in windows the file type for the movies that renamed themsleves is MPEG-4 Video File whereas the ones that are named correct are MPEG-4 Movie. Is this because fo the way I have converted them?

  • Can't import MPEG4 video into iDVD 5

I am trying to create a DVD using MPEG4 video that I downloaded
from iTunes. (I need to create a DVD of the Wonderpets TV show
for my son for Christmas.) iDVD 5 doesn't recognize it, nor does
iMovie HD 5, nor does Toast Titanium. I am assuming that either
there is some copy protection issue, or that I must upgrade iLife 05
to iLife 06. I would gladly upgrade to 06 if I was guaranteed that
it solve this, but there is no such info on the Apple site that offers
06 as a solution. The other problem is that iLife is not available as
a download, and if I need to purchase it I'll have to run out on
Christmas Eve to get it. I can image what fun traffic I'll run into.
Any solid info on this subject would be of greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info. Very much appreciated.
I would have preferred a little warning on the site when I purchased the 10 episodes. Now I'll have to go to the Apple Store and buy an Apple Video Adaptor on Christmas Eve to play iTunes on my TV. The Apple Store is conveniently located in the Galleria, the busiest mall around... Happy Holidays

  • Import Mpeg4 (m4v) into iMovie?

I'd like to burn video purchased from iTunes to DVD. I've tried exporting to iMovie and vice versa, i.e. importing the 'm4v' into iMovie. I've also tried creating a playlist and burning directly to DVD using internal SuperDrive. Does anyone out there have any ideas? I drove an hour to the Apple Store and waited another hour before I spoke with someone at the Genius Bar. They had no idea.

You can't convert and/or use purchased videos on any other application at the moment due to DRM restrictions - sorry.
The only solution in your case: connect the video out of your PB to a recording/capture device and record that video.

  • 50% sound when importing mpeg4

I'm using the trial version of PRE7, on a Windows Vista with a Quad processor and 4 G of memory.
When I play a segment, imported from my Sanyo HD camera, on my PC, using QuickTime, it plays out fine.
When I import it into PRE7, I only get the first half of the sound. After 50% is done, no more sound. Video plays out fine.
When I export the clips, same, no sound after 50% of each segment.
Is this a trial version issue, or is there another problem?????

Thanks Paul, Yes, I've tried about 20 different clips. I thought initially it was a problem with the camera. But then, the clips play fine directly on the computer.
I read somewhere that you needed Quicktime for Adobe PRE, so re-installed that. Nothing helps.
And then in desperation, I converted the MPG4 to different formats (avi, etc) and there the sound works, but there's a heavy humm in the soundtrack, for all formats I tried.
So I give up, and have just downloaded Cyberlink PowerDirector, and that worked immediately. No problems.
    Thanks for you help.

  • Importing mpeg4 or Swf

Hi, I'd like to import a movie into Flash CS5 and have it so that each frame of the movie has it's own keyframe instead of it being imported into the flash player or as a movie clip and I was wondering if this was possible as I've not been able to find any resources to tell me it is or isn't.
    Thank you.

i'm not sure that's going to work the way you want but it might.  to import a swf like that click file/import/import to stage, navigate to the swf and click ok.  you usually want to create a new movieclip so the swf is distributed over the new movieclip's timeline.
