Importing MTS files into Premiere Pro cs5

I have been reading though some threads recently and now it has me wondering what I am missing on this subject. I have been working with MTS files for quite a while and have been dragging the folder into my project and rendering from there. (iMac 2012 with retina display)
Does this method affect the quality of these files? Is it better to convert them from a converter program and then import them? Also I have not been able to use any of the clips unless I keep them attached to the whole. Noticing this is not the case for my friend who uses .mov. Is there a way around that, that I am not aware of.
Coming from  SD digital tape based camera to the Canon XA10 using ACVHD cards the quality already looks better to me, but if there is a chance it can look even better than I want to try that method out.
Thanks for any help/ideas I can get.

if you can hear the audio  with media player or with any other player in your computer then check settings
EDIT--PREFERENCES--AUDIO HARDWARE AND CLICK ON ASIO SETTINGS.
another dialog box will appear and in that under
    INPUT AND OUTPUT TAB
MAKE SURE ALL THE OPTIONS/BOXES SHOULD BE CHECKED .

  • Importing MTS files in Premiere Pro CS5 Trial

I just bought the Master Collection but I am getting the box sent to me via mail so while I am waiting I am using the trial version. Anyways I tried importing MTS files from my hard drive and I am getting the following error - "file has an unsupported compression type." Is this because of the trial version? Will this work as soon as I get my serial number and officially register the product? Thanks in advance.
    - Zef

Is this because of the trial version?
Yep; no MPEG-based assets in the trial due to licensing restrictions.
Will this work as soon as I get my serial number and officially register the product?
Yep; be sure to uninstall the trial before you install the Master Collection, though. It's a good idea to run the CS5 Clean Script, too.

  • How To Import .THM Files Into Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello:
I just purchased a Canon Vixia HFM50.  When I use the presets, there is support for the AVCHD format.  The file extension for the AVCHD format from the Canon is *.THM.  Yet, that file type is not recognized.  How do I import it?
    Regards,
    Rich Locus

    Hi Rich Locus,
Thanks for your post.  THM is an image file format for thumbnails. Images are made smaller for browsing purposes, usually because it is easier to view and takes less time to load.
THM files can be viewed by most image preview or editing programs on both Macs and PCs. THM files are similar to .JPEG files, and those .
THM files representing image files can usually be converted to JPEG format by changing the name of the file from .THM to .JPEG or .JPG.
THM files can also be used by videos. When extracting a video file from a camcorder, a thumbnail will be created to represent the video, usually taken from the video’s first frame.
The .THM file will then have the same name as the .AVI file that it represents. With Canon-created video files, the .THM file also contains the metadata for the video, and therefore needs to remain with and have the same name as the .AVI file. Please update if changing the extension of the file works.

    Vinay

What is the CODEC in your MOV file(s)? MOV is but a "wrapper," like AVI. This ARTICLE will give you some background. It could be that you just need the proper CODEC, or it could be that it is a Mac-only CODEC, and then you will need for the producer to Export in another CODEC, that is PC-compatible.
This ARTICLE will give you some background on CODEC's, in general.

  • Importing mov files in premiere pro cs5

I just installed Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection on my machine and now, i have two issues.
    1. I do have the latest quicktime installed but when i try to import *.mov files with audio, only the audio is imported and works fine. the video isn't, but I dont get a dialogue error box.
A). if the *.mov file has only video, i get a file import failure message saying " the file has no audio or video streams".
    2. the next prob is my dymanic linking does not work.
    Help please

Im trying something and I hope you can help me. I have two computers, one dedicated to capturing a event and the other I have is dedicated to playback. They share the hard drive via a network. What I want to know is- is there a way for the dedicated playback machine to access a video file that is still being captured by the capturing machine and play back parts of it in a sequence??

Zone Alarm, eh? I used to use that program, but it got in the way of almost everything that I did, that I canned it completely.
Glad that removing ZA solved your issue.
Personally, I find MOV Animation CODEC to be quite good, and use that for a lot of work. Jeff Bellune, here, like the Photo JPEG format, but I have not explored that.

  • Can't import prores files into Premiere Pro CC or SpeedGrade CC

Can't import prores files into Premiere Pro CC or SpeedGrade CC. But I can into After Effects CC.
I also can't export to DNxHD files to an MXF file either.
I do have latest Quicktime Pro installed and I also have Avid Media Composer and the other pieces of the Avid package.
    Conflict?

I only have one account on the computer and it has Administrator priveleges.  What I am doing to make it work is opening the application using the "Run as Administrator" command (e.g., right click application shortcut on desktop, choose "Run as Administrator").  I am not a Windows guru but I would guess there is something different between opening an Application with a user that has Administrator priveleges and opening an Application choosing "Run as Administrator".  Also, your answer still does not address the fact that I can't use my jog wheel.
    Anyone else have some ideas?

  • Import mov files into premiere pro cc windows

    Hi
to import mov files into premiere pro cc 64bit ,windows 8.1 64bit pro do i need Quicktime pro or quicktime alternative  ?
because when i try to import a mov file i got this error
    thanks
i remember cs6 was able to import it
i have never installed quicktime pro

Your question simply cannot be answered definitively for a given clip because it's the codec that matters, not the wrapper/file extension.
As of one of the 7.x releases, Premiere implemented native support for decoding some codecs within a QuickTime file. But that native support does not extend to the entire universe of codecs that can be stuffed into the wrapper.
So you can either report the codec or simply install QT and see if that enables PPro to import the clip.

  • Can't import Photoshop files into Premiere Pro

I am learning Premiere Pro CS6 and I am using a book titled "Classroom in a Book".  One of the exercises is to import a Photoshop file into Premiere Pro.  I received a generic error message "The importer reported a generic error".  I found that if I run Premiere Pro as an Administrator that the issue goes away.  I wasn't too worried about it until I realized that my ShuttleXpress does not function when I am running Premiere Pro as an Administrator.  Does anyone have any idea what is going on???? This is very frustrating.

  • Importing AE file into Premiere Pro

I am having trouble importing my After Effects .mov file into Premiere Pro. When I lay it in the time line, the images and text look all granulated. Does this have something to do with my render settings?

To elaborate on Andrew's post: Premiere will always assume all footages have the same specs as the project settings. For DV/ HDV projects this means it will think they are interlaced with lower fields. if you didn't render them with these settings, you will have to tell this Premiere by manually setting the footage interpretation just as you would in AE. Also check your viewer settings. Maybe they are just set to draft quality or auto-adjust themselves because you scaled them oddly and thus the clips are presented at crooked scaling rates. Another potential cause for this could be a problem with your graphics card, so if you cannot resolve the matter by the other methods, disable hardware accelerated playback in the viewer's options (the little arrow in the top right corner).

  • Trouble importing MXF files into Premiere Pro CC

When importing MXF files into Premier Pro (CC or CS6) from a Canon C300, If I have stopped and started the Camera (during an interview for instance) ie, if there are several takes, multiple duplicate verions of my fooatge appear in the folder on my card, when viewed through the media browser in Premier Pro.
If I try to ingest the footage into Premiere Pro (CC/CS6) or use Prelude (CC/CS6) the conformed footage file does not start in the right place. Example, an interview with two takes once ingested (as one file) has the second take first.
    Has anybody else encountered this?

Yes, MXF should play perfectly in PP CS6, but if you can't work this out at this point, you may wrap your MXF video to something intermediate. as a matter of face, Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 seems to work fine if you import your MXF clips directly from a camera or camcorder, but if have already copied MXF recordings your HDD or you downloaded them from somewhere else, the import error may occur.
So i suggest you convert the MXF footage to something mezzanine we would recommend DNxHD.mov (if you are on a PC) or Apple ProRes .mov (if on a mac). those two intermediate codecs are good mezzanine codecs that handle recompression well and standup well in other areas of post-production (color grading, graphics, compositing, etc,). You can see what I wrote about the solution. "Why Premiere Pro CS6 can't import MXF files?" i hope that it is helpful to you.

  • Importing Photoshop files into premiere pro CS6 issues

    Hi
I recently re-installed Premiere Pro CS6 on my work computer (i changed from a HDD to an SSD). Ever since I did this I am having an issue importing .PSD files into Premiere.
I try and import a photoshop file. The importer window comes up. The progress bar starts to move, then pauses and the Importer says 'Not Responding'. After a few seconds it comes back and throws up the following error:
Error message - 'The importer reported a generic error'
All projects i previously worked on that had .PSD files in them are now reporting these files as 'Media Offline' meaning I have to replace them with .PNG files which is really annoying.
Any ideas what might be happening? The files I am trying to import are RGB .PSD's. They worked previously without any issues.
    I have Premiere Pro Version 6.0.5 (001 (MC: 264587))
running on a Windows 7 machine with Service Pack 1, 64 bit OS, 16GB Ram and Intel Core i7-2600
Many thanks in advance for anyone who can help me with this!
