Importing multi page InDesign Files

Please forgive the basic question but I am still having problems with this... If I import an article from one InDesign file with 3 pages in it only the first page will show up in the content viewer. I understand folios can have multiple articles but can an imported article have multiple pages and is there a trick to seeing them in the content viewer? As a test I set up a 3 page InDesign file with type that says page 1, page 2 and page 3 on each respective page. Only page 1 is visible. Does every page of an InDesign file need to be imported seperately? I have watched all the Lynda.com tutorials on DPS and none of them address multipage InDesign files that I am aware of. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

I apologize, I was using the content viewer on my desktop, not my tablet and the scroll bar would only show the first page, I guess it does not go through all of the pages. I did watch your course all the way through and learned a great deal from it, I will go back and find the multi page example and review. Thank you for your help.

  • Getting Page Count for a Multi-Page PDF file using Illustrator script?

Does anyone know how to get the page count of a multi page PDF file?  I know you can then open each page using the PDFFileOptions (pagetoopen).  But I need to know up front how many pages there are to loop thru to open each page and process each page.
    Any Ideas?

This script i did for photoshop:
OK so lets do it working on WIN and MAC without any shell script.
This solution is not the best but its working.
I used Try catch to solve it.
Only issue is that you should at least somehow know how many pages you expect in pdf.. this mean if you are working with books or flyers...
Then set the maxPagesCount to that number.
I am working with pdfs with max 20pages.. so i start open the 20 then 19 then 18 and when i am success i know the amount of pages.
Its not the quicker way but its usable.

  • How do you import multi track wav files

How do you import multi track wave files into Logic Pro?
These files are form a Sound Devices 664 mixer.

Is this a 5 or 6 channel single wav file?
I don't believe Logic will import these but can't be 100% sure because I'm not using the very latest version, I'm at 9.1.5 because it's stable. I do know that "SoundTrack Pro" that shipped with the disk version of Logic can export multichannel files so I'm guessing that it may very well open them as well. Soundtrack Pro has been discontinued but if you do have it, make sure it's the latest version.
Or... if you know anyone with the Nuendo DAW, it will open multichannel wavs which you can then export to any format you wish.
Might also want to look at "Reaper" it may well open Multichannel WAV files and has a 30 or 60 day trial license and only costs $60 for a license. An amazing DAW mainly developed by a single individual.

  • Can't open multi-page illustrator file

I'm on a mac. I have Illustrator CC. I'm trying to open a multi-page .ai file, and I get the dialogue that usually happens when you're trying to open a non-illustrator multi-page pdf. :
    here's a screenshot:
    http://grab.by/yNEg
when I do a get info on the file, it says Saved As v.15 Created by v.15.0.0
How can I open this file and get all the artboards without running a script? I want to retain all the text formatting.
    thanks!

That usually happens when files get corrupted and only the PDF part of the file is still intact.
Did you perhaps save it directly to or open it directly from a server?

  • How do I import multi-page PDFs into an indesign document?

Note:  When I search for answers to this question on the adobe site, i encounter a broken link.
I need to insert several multi-page PDFs such that they become one document that I am able to appy consistent control over.  Should I be doing this in indesign?  What is the best way to do this?

If you don't want to use them in InDesign for any other purpose than to assamble them in one new PDF I would rather use Adobe Acrobat Pro than InDesign.
In Acrobat Pro: Create new Deocument > Form multiple Files, select further what you need.

  • Import multi-page PDF

    Hello,
Does anyone know how to import a multi-page PDF document into Pages? For example, I only need the 4th and 5th page in a PDF document, or I need all 20 pages, or....
Seems like only the first page gets imported. It's incredible that inDesign and Quark (and PowerPoint?) have had this capability for years and years but it's left out of the Pages 09?!?!
    -j

I only need the 4th and 5th page in a PDF document, or I need all 20 pages, or....
The principle of the thing is that PDF is a page description model, that is, it is an object oriented and non-revisable format and not a revisable format such as DOC.
In a revisable format such as DOC one can cut from the middle of page 19 to the middle of page 25 in one revisable file and paste that into the middle of page 3 in another revisable file.
If a non-revisable object oriented format such as PDF is to be placed as a page object in a revisable format, then the revisable format has to have a way to deal with this.
It does this by means of the box-geometry in the portable document format and different applications support different box-geometries - mediabox, artbox, cropbox and so forth.
Part of the problem with this is that people tend to confuse a non-revisable page description with a revisable file format, and part of the problem is that when a non-revisable object oriented page description is to be placed in a revisable file format, the importing application has to arrive at an assumption about what to do, and it's easiest to do this page by page.
Note that it is a known problem that if a PDF which is searchable is placed into a revisable file and that revisable file is saved out as a PDF with the first PDF nested inside, the first PDF may be partly or wholly unsearchable. In other words, Unicode imaging may not work, or may not work well.

  • Create a single tall image from a multi-page pdf file

I would like to take a multi-pake pdf file, and have all of the pages "appended" from top to bottom edge to create a single tall image. I am a teacher, and I currently do this by hand, I am then able to annotate the entire page and croll down an entire document inside of Photoshop.
Here is an example: I have a pdf with 4 pages. Currently I open the pdf in PS, I end up with 4 images; I adjust the vertical canvas size of one of the images to be 4 times it's original size, then one-by-one I copy the contents of each image to that new tall image and move that layer vertically below the previous one. So the result is say a 1024x6400 pixel image.
I would like to be able to just open the pdf with a script and get this all done in one step.
    Any help is appreciated.

Thanks again c.pfaffenbichler. I had most of it worked out in my own way before you got back to me, but I wasn't able to get the final naming part down.
Like I said, I am a math teacher, and I use photoshop as my whiteboard, and draw with a graphics tablet. So I can print to pdf from any program, now I can import any document into photoshop basically to write on it. So this is wonderful. I have never seen another teacher use PS as a whiteboard in class in this way, so I am most likely the only person in my county or state that would need such a script.
After I got everything worked out, I added some things to the script. Some of my colleagues will use my files as a whiteboard if I send it to them as a tall single page pdf that they can scroll down and write over; so they don't need photoshop. So I have scripted in the saving of that pdf as well. Here are my changes; most of what I changed is in the section commented MY WORK.
    // opens all pages of pdfs cropped to trimbox with set settings and arranges them;
    // 2011, use it at your own risk;

  • Automatically create pages when importing multi-page pdf

I need to import a pdf into an InDesign file, but that file is nearly 400 pages. Is there a way to have InDesign create new pages as needed and place the file automatically (like autoflow for text)?

  • Importing Multi-Page PDF. Problems with Image Size Changing.

I am working with CS4 on Windows XP.
This has happened to numerous files...
I open a multi-page PDF using PhotoShop using Grayscale. There are crop marks indicated on each page, so I will use the crop tool to crop each image accordingly. Then I convert each to a bitmap and save it as a .tiff file and close it. When I re-open the file, the image size has increased. It seems like it increases the same amount each time (maybe about 25%??) for each file.
Any suggestions on how to fix this are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm still unclear why you are bothering to open these PDF in Photoshop only to crop.
Acrobat can do this most easily. Placing the PDF files back in InDesign can also do this.
Photoshop is the last tool you'd want to use as it is rasterizing the vector elements/text and producing a larger file.
If you have neither Acrobat or InDesign, look to a free tool to crop PDF.

  • Multi-page InDesign document to single-page InDesign documents script?

I'm looking for a script that can take a multi-page Mac InDesign CS2/CS3 document and split it into single-page InDesign documents. Any ideas or comments?

Sorry I'm coming in at the end of a discussion, but there was not enough input from the O.P. Mike. Are we working on a folder of multiple ID files, or just one? Do we need to export all pages of documents or just a range? What platform is needed? Generally how many pp per document, how many documents? Cleanup needed on master pages or swatches etc?
    I'm talking in Applescript here.
Do master pages really need deleted? If not, then no problem, just leave them in. My guess would be to just have your original ID docs in a folder, and an output folder. Start a script, select your input and output folders. Script grabs first document, counts number of pages. Repeats X number of times. Delete pages except the page of current loop, do a Save-As into output folder with new doc name. Reopen (or undo) and repeat page deletion and Save-As with new name. Go to next loop with next original document.
I've written a bunch of loops that do some of these basic functions. I can't see that trying to duplicate the page structure on a new document would be very efficient in any language. Seems like too many pitfalls that could snag you, like master page items or locked items or document preferences you have to account for.
Even with my script there may be text flow issues with linked boxes.
Mike, any additional input on what you need? Thx

  • Any way to import multi-layered Illustator file into Motion?

I have an Illustrator map of Europe and i would like to bring it into Motion.
I know that Motion can import Illustrator files as pdf but is there any way to import a multi-layered illustrator file into Motion. I just saw this web site regarding a Motion plug-in that claims to do just this:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16298/layerlink

Without a dedicated plug or FxPlug, Motion has no inherent ability to parse Illustrator layers.
We just bust the layers out and save them as individual files. Or, of course, we use After Effects.

  • Viewing Multi Page tiff  files received as email attachments on the iPhone

I have spent hours trying to find a solution or a work-around to the problem of viewing multi page tiff ( .tif) email attachments on my iPhone 3G running 3.0. I have only ever been able to view the first page of these files.
Finally I decided to come up with my own solution. I have recently launched the website www.econvertimage.com. Anyone can now freely email tiff files to the site from their phone. These files are converted to pdf and then returned to the sender for viewing on their phone.
You can set up an auto forward for attachments coming from specific senders if you like. This way you will often receive the converted file at the same time as the original email. Visit the site for further details.
I hope this post may save others the frustration I've endured over the last few weeks looking for a solution.
I'm interested in future improvements people are keen to see for the site. I'll keep developing the functionality if there's a need. I look forward to receiving comments and feedback.
    Thanks

Sounds perfect - is it operational? Sent a test message this morning, never received the PDF.

  • Can you turn a single 18-page Indesign file into 18 individual Indesign files?

I am working in CS5 and am laying out a newspaper in Indesign. I would like to save the 18 page file into 18 separate files (1 page per file) so other people can work on different pages.
Is this possible? Exporting as a pdf and extracting doesn't quite work (text wrap around ads issues) so keeping it as InDesign is a must.
    Thank you.

You can use the Move Pages command to move one page at a time to a new file, or delete all but one page and save as with a new name. Either option can probably be automated by scripting (I bet somebody's already written it, so you might ask in InDesign Scripting) but 18 pages isn't all that big that doing it by hand should be a problem.
