IMporting multiple albums at once: sort on date added AND album or artist

When importing multiple albums at once, iTunes ads them in the library in an all mixed up order.
This makes it very annoying to change song info. I have to multi-select songs from the same album (clicking while pressing the control button) and then change stuff.
1. Why can't iTunes automaticaly keep tracks from the same album together when adding new music from multiple albums?
2. Why can't we sort by added date AND another column like artist or album?
any solutions are very welcome
greetz

The order iTunes is showing the tracks can be changed. Select the album column heading to get tracks list in album order. Normally within an album the tracks will list in track order when viewing this way.

  • How do I sort by date added while maintaining track order?

    Hello,
    I'm trying to do what I think is a simple function in ITunes. I'd like to sort by "date added" and have the tracks line up sequentially by track number. In other words, when in Itunes, I'd like to have (from top of the library to bottom) my most recent album with tracks 1-10, listed, and then the next recent album and so forth. Almost like a most recent album. You can of course sort by date added, and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, but then when Ituns plays, you start on the most recent album, it runs through that album, and then is done.
    Any thoughts?

    If you ever find the answer, I'd love to know as well. How odd is it that you can do this. I tried several searches for this in software hacks, and applications that let you alter icon views and the like. Can't believe the limited interest in correcting it either.
    I was looking for a way to display screen shots of various jpeg elements with files names that double as instructions in a tutorial. Icon view allowed me to see pictures in a large enough size to use as instructions with the corresponding file names. All I would have had to do was screen shots assembled into a PDF and I would have been done. Having to retype every instruction along with copy, and pasting into a new document and so forth is more than double the work for any set of pictorial instructions.
    Maybe Garage Band or some other application is the workaround until then. I'll let you know if I ever find a better workaround, or the solution.

  • Itunes (11.2.1)- ALBUM SORT BY DATE ADDED ?

    Hello,
    So before updating to Itunes version 11.2.1 my albums in itunes were visible and were sorted by ''date added''(even though I never chose this option). So the case would be that everytime I added a new song it would appear at the very end of my itunes library under ''Albums''. After updating it however, I have encountered a problem; Now my albums section is sorted in another way (Alphabetical order), So any newly added music will appear somewhere deep within all my other songs and not at the end of my library of albums.
    Please help me resolve this problem since I have invested into music for many years, and can't find my music now.

    I use an older iTunes so I don't know exactly how they have hte new one set up.  Presumably there is still a list view mode.  Use view options to display the date added column then sort by that.

  • Sort by date added actually sorts by album v1.0.10

    When I try to sort by date added, it sorts it by album for some reason. Squash this bug please.

    Hey gapdude101,
    Just saw your response this evening.  I did a fast search again and I found something that's solved my problem of my iTunes playlists not showing up in the same order on my iPhone or iPad Remote app.  I right-clicked on the playlist in iTunes and selected Copy to Play Order, and I saw the play order on the playlist on my iPhone sync in real time to what I had on the screen in iTunes.  That seems to have solved my problem.  Here's a link to the other article on Apple Support on here where I found this...
    "If you like the way iTunes has shuffled the play order of one of your play lists, you can use the "Copy to Play Order" shortcut menu command to make the shuffled play order the permanent play order."   http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27500?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Sorting with date added list

    ****0,
    I was wondering if there was a way to sort by Album, but at the same time by Date Added.
    Sometimes when I add multiple albums at once into Itunes, they do not load in the correct order and then subsequently modifying the individual files from each album is more difficult to do.
    So, anyway to search both Date Added and view the album in order at the same time?
      Windows XP

    How about creating a smart playlist using the criteria "Date Added" -- or using the existing "Recently Added" smart playlist -- then sort that smart playlist by Album.

  • I just upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and it duplicated virtually every track in my music library. I need a quick way to delete the duplicates. Sorting by "Date Added" will not help because they are all listed as added on 12/12/2011.

    Library Duplicated
    I just updated to the latest version of iTunes and it duplicated virtually every track in my library. I need a quick way to delete the duplicates. Sorting by "Date Added" will not work, because every track is listed as added on 12/12/2011 even though this happened today 12/19/2011.

    I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.

  • When I drag music from a folder that contains songs by different artists and then sort by date added it shows the songs in alphabetical order by artist?

    When I drag a bunch of songs with different artists from a folder on my computer to the itunes library and sort by Date added it puts them into alphabetical order by artist. I am able to workaround this by using date modified. Why does itunes do this? This started happening in July. Prior to that never had this problem. Been adding my music the same way for almost a decade.

    They are added in the same minute. I do not see the second area next to that if it should be. I'm guessing an update to a newer itunes build is responsible. It's a shame. I am using the sort by date modified. But now whenever I modify a file in Itunes it automatically moves it to the top of the list. I am trying to keep the newest stuff at the top of my itunes.

  • Why is the file browser unable to sort by date added (Safari, Mail, etc)?

    When I use the file browser (e.g. when I browse for a file to attach to an email or browse for a file to upload through a form) and try to sort by date added, it doesn't work.
    I can see the column for "date added" and it displays the correct date. I can sort by other properties and it works. But when I sort by "date added" it lists files that were added a while ago under "today" and the files recently added are under "no date" (even though they all have a correct date). The list doesn't seem to change day-to-day (e.g. files under "today" remain the same).
    Does anyone know what could be wrong? Am I the only one with this issue?

    Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
    Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
    Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
    Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
    And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.

  • When I sort by date added in Column View in Finder, how can I make the most recent files appear at the top of the list?(Mavericks)

    In 10.8, when I sorted Finder by date added or date created in column view, the most recent files would appear at the top of the list. Currently, this happens as it should in every single view mode EXCEPT column view (which is pretty much the only view I ever use). Currently, I have a folder with over 2000 files in it that date back to 2011, so now I have to scroll for like ten minutes just te get to files that were most recently added. Who in their right mind would want to sort by last modified with the oldest result listed FIRST? Ridiculous. I can't figure this out. Any help?

    Thanks for the reply leroydouglas! Unfurtunately this doesn't cause the column to be ordered correctly either. After selecting this option, the files seem to be ordered by label, and the most recently added file is somewhere in the middle of the list. I'd like it to be at the top, and have other files/folders descend in retrochronological order by their add date.
    Any other input from the community would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just confirming that this is/is not expected behavior. I'd be super bummed to find out that this IS expected behavior, as it's really counterintuitive and extremely inconvenient.
    Thanks again!

  • Song order on ipod problem ( only sorted as date added)

    Basically what the title states. I just got a new Ipod (30G) and I just finished putting 1000+ songs on it, it was hard work but i finally got it. Yet I found out that my ipod is doing to the same things my other one was doing, Instead of sorting the songs in Alphabetical order by Artist in my playlist, it will only sort it by date added instead.
    I put my songs manually instead of syncing and Im not about to reorganize all my songs on Itunes for this problem.
    Is there anyone who can help me?
    Thanks.

    I'm not letting this question die out here.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • How do I import multiple playlists at once?

    I know this issue has been discused before, but without a solution tailored to what i require, so I will reistate the problem from my point of view:
    Background: Had a Windows I-Tunes library, supremely organized. The mother of an Electric surge broke through my anti-surge defenses and fried the motherboard, the hard disk, the Power supply, or so the CompUSA techs tell me. A total loss. My wife has a Mac, I wanted to move my music and playlists to an I-Tunes account stationed on her mac, and reorganize the library just as it was before synching my I-pod and keep walking my life.
    Process:
    With some third party programs I managed to transfer my music into ITunes and now I have it back. But now I want to recover the playlists that I had organized into folders and have my music organized as before. Some might say I-tunes is already organized, there no need for so many playlists...but to find My Chemical Romance under the Holiday music genre isn't where I though I would find it or where I want it. And there are thousands labeled in "genres" that I have never heard about...just because the CD had scripted the music on it was of that genre.I Use playlists to organize the music I use frequently, be it from a single group (best of) or a multi-group compilation, hear it the way I want it and have reasonable quick access to it. I don't like looking around for a song as I do other tasks.The I-Pod control wheel is not my hamster wheel.
    In any case, I need to import the playlists en masse. There are many of them. I already have the playlist text files pre-separated, so I can import them in groups and place them in the folders they belong to. No overwhelming the system. I-Tunes is a heavy program in itself and any stated "slowing up" is imperceptible to I-Tunes regular speed. The benefits of my structure are primarily enjoyed in the I-POD. I hardly hear music directly from I-Tunes, it puts too much of a burden in a system I use for other heavies like photoshop etc.
    I tried to do this with the automator...but it can import anything but playlists. I lacks a step to know what to do with the playlists once it has acquired them...don't know why it has the step to get them but no apparent action for what to do with them. This is what the workflow looked like. I thought it would work:
    The problem was the last step: I was designed to import ONLY MUSIC. And there is no step that applies for the previous get playlists one that I see. Is there a custom workflow or suggestions on how to make this happen? this would both help me learn more about the tools available AND save me weeks of item by item Importing.

    Hi Ken,
    but that doesn't work.And, by the way, Drop does not exist as an option in that context menu, at least in the versions I checked: 3.0, 3.1.
    Here are a couple of other posts on this issue:
    Re: Deleting multiple items
    Multiple Objects Deletion
    On the SQL Developer Exchange Feature Requests page there are actually several instances of this. Multiple Drop Objects has the most votes and has been ACCEPTED:
    https://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=43135:7:1551303100110801::NO:RP,7:P7_ID:721
    Mentioned in one of the posts above is bug 5855085, actually an enhancement request, whose scheduled release keeps slipping.
    If you highlight multiple objects (I tested with all objects of the same type) in 3.1, then select Edit -> Delete from the menu toolbar, a confirmation dialog titled "Erase from Disk" pops up, but an affirmative confirmation does nothing. In 3.0, the Edit -> Delete choice is not even enabled.

  • Importing multiple personalizations at once

    Hello. We have a number of personalizations set up in the Supplier form that are specific to a set of about 8 responsibilities. Instead of setting up the personalizations separately for each responsibility, I am attempting to create it once, export it, edit the XML definition, and then import it back in. For example, we have some personalizations set up under US PO Super User and get an export like this:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
    <customization xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/jrad" version="9.0.6.0.0_27" xml:lang="en-US" customizes="/oracle/apps/pos/supplier/webui/QuickUpdatePG" xmlns:user="http://xmlns.oracle.com/jrad/user" user:responsibilityKey="purchasing_super_user" user:responsibilityAppId="201">
    <modifications>
    <modify element="PayOn" defaultValue="Receipt" userCustomizable="true"/>
    <modify element="bankCharg" rendered="false"/>
    <modify element="AddBankAcct" rendered="false"/>
    <modify element="pageBtnRN" rendered="false"/>
    </modifications>
    </customization>
    I then modify the XML file to this:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
    <customization xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/jrad" version="9.0.6.0.0_27" xml:lang="en-US" customizes="/oracle/apps/pos/supplier/webui/QuickUpdatePG" xmlns:user="http://xmlns.oracle.com/jrad/user" user:responsibilityKey="*purchasing_super_user*" user:responsibilityAppId="201">
    <modifications>
    <modify element="PayOn" defaultValue="Receipt" userCustomizable="true"/>
    <modify element="bankCharg" rendered="false"/>
    <modify element="AddBankAcct" rendered="false"/>
    <modify element="pageBtnRN" rendered="false"/>
    </modifications>
    </customization>
    <customization xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/jrad" version="9.0.6.0.0_27" xml:lang="en-US" customizes="/oracle/apps/pos/supplier/webui/QuickUpdatePG" xmlns:user="http://xmlns.oracle.com/jrad/user" user:responsibilityKey="*vc_purchasing_super_user*" user:responsibilityAppId="201">
    <modifications>
    <modify element="PayOn" defaultValue="Receipt" userCustomizable="true"/>
    <modify element="bankCharg" rendered="false"/>
    <modify element="AddBankAcct" rendered="false"/>
    <modify element="pageBtnRN" rendered="false"/>
    </modifications>
    </customization>
    These are practically the same thing, but you will see in bold that i have 2 different responsibilities. When i run the command line import utility, I get <Line 10, Column 1>: XML-20100: (Fatal Error) Expected 'EOF'.
    However, if i create a new XML file with only the other responsibility, it imports OK.
    Has anyone had success in combining multiple personalization in to one XML file for import? With the number of responsibilities and separate page objects personalized in the supplier form, we would be looking at over 50 different files to import. Thanks for your input.
    ryan

    you cannot put multiple personalization into one..
    Instead, create 8 different files for 8 different responsibilities. And import all the 8 files..

  • Importing multiple albums with same name

    I have two different soundtrack recordings of a movie, which I am trying to import from CDs. But iTunes 10 keeps munging the tracks into a single album and I have not found a way to keep the albums separated. I've loaded one and changed the album name by adding "Original Soundtrack". Then trying to import the other version, iTunes pops up a message about duplicate tracks and overwrites into the previous directory even when I check "Don't Replace".
    I've seen a lot of questions about how to delete duplicate albums, but I can't find a way to get near-duplicates into the library. Any suggestions?

    iTunes uses a maximum of 40 characters for file and folder names. if the original album title is long enough they may still clash at the folder level before you add any extra text.
    When the CD is sitting in your drive & before you start ripping, you can use Get Info. to edit indivdual tracks or properties for the whole album, e.g. set the Album title, complete the Album Artist field, or select Part of a compilation.
    If iTunes is recognising both albums (which you say are distinct recordings) as being the same thing then perphaps your edits get stored in the local database and applied to the second album when it is inserted into the drive. You should however be able to select any particular set of tracks and give them the albun title you feel is appropriate without anything else being modified.

  • Can I import multiple folders at once?

    I'm pretty sure that Aperture won't support what I want to do...but I thought I'd ask anyway...
    I'm converting to Aperture from Photoshop Elements.  I've got all my photos arranged nicely in the following structure:
    \Photo-directory
      \year
        \month
          \mm-dd-yy some descriptive name for the shoot
    When I try to import into Aperture, I have to navigate all the way to "...\mm-dd-yy some descriptive name for shoot" folder.  Aperture is smart enough to figure out that I want to store these images in a project called "mm-dd-yy some descriptive name..."
    But what I really want to do is this: tell Aperture "Start at /Photo-directory (or even /Photo-directory/year) and import all the images in all the sub-folders...and create projects using the lowest-level folder name as the project name."
    Any way to do this?  A "batch import folders" feature like this would be really sweet...

    You can import whole Finder trees via "File→Import Folders as Projects".  Specify whether you want to end up with Folders/Projects, or Projects/Albums.  (I always use Folders/Projects.)
    There are many things to consider prior to importing your images and setting up your Library.  Strongly suggest reading the User Manual chapter (click for link) --
    Importing Images
    especially the section
    Importing Folders of Images from the Finder
    You are going to want to fully understand the difference between a Managed Master and a Referenced Master before making the switch to Aperture.  Additionally, get ready for the discomfort of moving from a file-manager approach (using the Finder) to an image-manager (using Aperture).
    In Aperture, you organize your images -- but your images don't exist as image-format files usable by other programs until you export them.
