Importing music now from library--states, "Determining Gapless...

Now I can import music to the library category. But I have to individually name every track and album.
Then when i attempt to drage each track individually to my Ipod music, the task bar at the top of Itunes states, "Determining Gapless...." something or other and scrolls through each and every song on my Ipod.
What is going on?
Why can i just import music as easily as i have on other peoples computers?

The information should be retrieved from the tags in the file. If your tags are empty that would explain not getting information filled in automatically. Would probably be easier to fill in tags before importing by using a tag editor.
Syncing automatically is much easier than doing drag and drop. Have you tried it? Auto syncing will also update playcounts, ratings, and other changes to tags.

  • How do I import music files from a flash drive to my iTunes library on my laptop

How can I import music files from a flash drive to my iTunes library? I put the flash drive into my laptop, selected " add file to library", selected the songs I wanted from the flash drive, and it looked like they were added as the names show under " recently added". Then I removed the flash drive from my laptop But when I select one of the songs and try to play it a message saying "the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"  So it seems the actual files did not transfer. What do I do? I have done this. With a cd in the past with nsomproble,.

Thank you!! This worked. It does seem there should be an easier way but this did work.
Dragging the files to "Automatically Add..." is pretty easy once you know where to look.  Just make sure iTunes is running when you do it; otherwise the files will just sit there until the next time you open iTunes.
(Interestingly, the way you originally tried to do would have worked fine except for one little detail:  you have to first go into Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and check the box for "Copy files..."  If that is not done, iTunes will reference the files on the flash drive, which of course are not accessible once the drive is removed, as you saw.)
Anyway, glad that all is now sorted.  Enjoy the music!

  • Import music and photo library from i pad to mac book pro

i had a problem with the hard drive of my mac book pro and sold all conents. I now want to put the music and photo library and import it on the mac. it does not allow me to do it. what is the best way to do it so i have my library again on the mac books?

You should be able to copy iTunes purchased music back via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, but for music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs), and if you don't have a copy of it anywhere else, then you will need a third-party program to copy it back from your iPad - there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy it : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
If you've changed the hard-drive on your Mac you may also find this page for syncing to a new computer useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
For photos, if they were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then on a Mac you can use Image Capture, iPhoto or Aperture to copy them off : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to an iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • All purchased music missing from library on my mac.  can't find most files on my hd either.  help

I switched from a computer to a mac in the fall. ever since some of the music in the library couldn't be played due to the file could not be located error.  upon getting a new iphone a couple of days ago, i now no longer have any music at all in my library, nor are the files anywhere on my hard drive.  do I have to download all previously purchased songs again?  thanks

Time to start fresh anew, since it seems you may have really mucked up the library.
Hold down option key while you click on iTunes. Then chose NEW LIBRARY.
Now... re-download all past music purchases.  Should be good to go.

  • When opened, iPhoto freezes trying to import old photos from library

When I open iphoto, I get a message that says "26 photos have been found in the iphoto library that were not imported. Would you like to import them now?" When I click YES, my computer freezes and I must force quit. The only way I can open iphoto is to ignore this message. This occurs when no devices are hooked up to my computer. How can I fix this or delete these 'mystery' photos that are waiting to be imported? Help! (Please and Thanks)

quit iPhoto and in the finder right click on the iPhoto Library package, select the Show Package contents option and fine the folder names Import or Importing and drag it to your desktop - DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE within the iPhoto Library
close and restart iPhoto - you should be ok. Look inside the import folder from the finder and see if there is anything you want to save - if not trash the folder and its contents - if there are photos you want to save drag them one at a time onto the iPhoto icon or the open program - if you find one that cause,s problems trash it

  • Music vanished from library after restart

Hi, normally, I’m using the Android App, but for organizing the music library I’m using the Windows application. The problem not related to any specific Spotify application, I tried all devices. If I add new music to my library (artist is “Dry Kill Logic” in this case) it shows up in my collection. I can play the songs and everything is fine. After I restart the application (or just wait some time) all but 4 songs vanish from my collection completely. This is very annoying, because I’m unable to listen to the music without going navigating through the artist’s page. The contact support page redirected me to this board. So I’m seeking for help here. Cheers

I had a similar issue with my iPhone, I deleted some listened to podcasts and my whole library vanished. I connected my iPhone to a friends computer and even though I did not synced my iPhone it looked like iTunes repaired the library and all the music came back.
Have checked if the iPad storage is full and how many songs the iPad says it has on it. Go to Settings, General, About to see amount of used space and number of songs on the device.

  • Re-import music files from external library location (i.e. from archive)

    This is maddening as ___
I keep my iTunes files on a drive external to my OS drive for safe keeping. I did a clean install of the OS, backed up the library from iTunes beforehand, and now I can't reimport the library with creating a whole new library and duplicating the files. So I know how to...
    1) Set the music location to another drive - not a problem
    2) When I import the XML library I get my play lists, BUT I only get the message my other music cannot be found. Importing the library itself does nothing. I've also tried moving the library (from the original, with its XML file) and I get all the songs and preferences but none of the songs can be found - grrrr!
    3) So, how do I import the music into iTunes, and leave it on the remote drive. (iTunes always wants to create a new directory and copy it there it seems and since I don't have enough room to just let it make a whole new 48GB directory....
    4) Why is this SO difficult - it is consistently a sore point with this one thing (I otherwise love all my other apple goodies for 10+ years, but this...ugh!) Any tools people know of?
    Thanks

The 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file is not used by iTunes, but created by iTunes so it can be used by other programs.
If you still have the 'iTunes Library' file from before the clean install, putting it in the iTunes folder should reveal your library.
Read more about the library files here:
What are the iTunes library files?
You can also use the .xml file to restore the library.
Just set the folder on your EHD which contains all the music as 'iTunes Music folder location' in the preferences.
Then run iTunes (with the empty library), choose 'Import...' from the File menu and navigate to the .xml file.
Your library will be restored, no new folder, no dupes.
Before posting this message, I tested the procedure on my 'test' account, on which I keep a very small iTunes Library (about 10 songs), to 'mess up' and test certain procedures.
I moved (consolidated) the library to a 'testtunes' folder on an EHD, trashed the 'iTunes Library' file and used the 'iTunes Music Library.xml' file to restore the library. No dupes, no new folder. Worked just fine.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lots of music missing from library

    Hello,
I keep all my music on an external HD (not enough space on the internal). I just installed iTunes 7.02. But for some reason, it won't display the music on the external HD in my library. I tried the Apple instructions for re-creating my library, and that didn't work. If I go to Change Music Folder Location under Preferences, it shows that it's already pointing to the external. How do I get iTunes working properly again?
    Thanks for any help.
iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   iMac 400Mhz SE, Video iPod 60GB, JBL Creature, Airport Express

I have the SAME problem! I have over 6,000 songs on my ipod (were on my computer) until I pulled songs from my external drive into my itunes music folder. Now, my internal HD says I have all the music there (approx. 40 GB) but itunes doesn't see all of them. I tried dragging my whole music folder into the itunes window and it only copied around 2,000 for some reason. I REALLY need all my music back- it took a REALLY long time getting all those songs off my CD's! Any suggestions out there are GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks!

  • Itunes music disappearing from library

I recently got a new laptop and copied all my music across however after working perfectly for weeks I found that when I went on to itunes all my music had disappeared from my library. I then transferred it again and it did the smae, as in it worked fine for a while and then was empty again. This has happened 3 times now and it is really frustrating. Another thing I have noticed is that I find an itunes genius file and an itunes extra file in my recycle bin, when I havent deleted them??

I have a similar problem. My internet wasn't working properly on my screen name for my computer, so my mom made me a whole new one for when i loggin to my computer. • Moving iTunes imported music albums from MBP to iPad

I have a MBP in my name/iTunes account, my wife has just been given an iPad 3, and she has her own iTunes account on it.
Is there anyway (without the sharing option) of moving albums from my MBP to her iPad so that they physically sit in her iPad, not sharing.
I dont mean purchased music from iTunes etc, but albums I have copied / imported from our own CD's etc.
    Thanks for any help

If I open itunes on my MBP and then connect the iPad to my MBP and then click on devices where it says my wifes iPad, the only optios I get are to "set up as new iPad"  or  "Recover from my wifes iPhone"
I cant see sync any wherne.

  • How can i restore music deleted from library?

My problem is: I began to change all my music to mp3 then deleted the m4p files from my library (approx 500 songs). The reason for this is that I have Sandisk MP3 player that will not play m4p format. My reasoning for deleting the m4p files was that I didn't see a reason for keeping duplicate music files since itunes plays both. I noticed when dowloading from store that it still formats in m4p and i lost the records for my previously purchased music from store. I'm not sure the best approach to managing these music files. I'm thinking that restoring itunes back to m4p files for itunes and moving the mp3 files to another folder for use with sandisk mp3 player. All my m4p files are in my recycle bin so can recover them easily but how can I restore these files to my itunes library???
Any suggestions on how to manage these files for the sandisk and also for itunes??

Once you restore the files simply drag them back into iTunes and you should be all set.  Or click on File and then click on Add a File or Folder and choose the folder where all of the files are located and iTunes will add them automatically.

  • Importing music files from ext. hard drive to itunes

If I import all my music files (years of collections, unorganized about 90 Ggs some duplication) from ext. hard drive to itunes will itunes organize my music collection and be accessible?
what is the simplest way to transfer these files from ext. hard drive to itunes
    Thanks

If I import all my music files (years of collections, unorganized about 90 Ggs some duplication) from ext. hard drive to itunes will itunes organize my music collection and be accessible?
Do you want it to do this?
You can leave it on the external and play it from iTunes. Nothing will be moved or organized. Everything will stay as it is.
Or you can leave it on the external and have iTunes organize it.
Or you can add it to iTunes and copy it to the internal and organize it.
what is the simplest way to transfer these files from ext. hard drive to itunes
    This is two differnt things.
You can have these songs in iTunes and leave them on the external.

  • How do you import music videos from a dvd into iTunes?

I have got a music cd and includs a music dvd. I want the music videos to be imported into iTunes so I can watch them on my iPod touch. How do I do this?

I had a friend who got a dual-format music album on DVD of the band Chicago for his birthday. He didn't have a system that could play the remixed 5.1 surround sound version on the DVD, but he could play it back in his Mac OS X on the DVD player in good old stereo. However, he wanted a copy he could play in his car CD player.
So I used Audio Hijack to record the output of the DVD played back as stereo through the Apple DVD player in Mac OS X. I had Audio Hijacj write the output to the hard drive as AIFF 16-bit 44.1KHz stereo. Then I used iTunes to burn it to a CD.
Of course it took 45 minutes to make a recording from a 45-minute audio program; it happened in real-time.
(This was all perfectly legal because he owns the DVD and he's using the CD recording as a backup audio copy for his own personal use--basically like ripping a CD you own for use in your iPod).
I did an a/b comparison between the original DVD and the AIFF recording I had generated, and I was pleasantly surprised by its good quality.
Since then I've been an Audio Hijack fan.
