Importing my library onto my new laptop.

Windows 8 is my operating system. I have an iPod Shuffle. I've bought a new laptop and want to move my music from the old iTunes onto the new one. I have backed up my library onto a junk drive and it is also on my iPod. Can someone please give me detailed instructions on how to do this? Thanks!

Are you saying that iTunes isnt recognizing your phone?

That is not necessarily true. You are allowed to make a back-up of media you own and, at least in the Netherlands, even a copy of a work you've borrowed from a library. The law expressly permits this and you pay a certain amount for recordable media to allow for home use.  See http://www.thuiskopie.nl/nl for this.  If you then decide to destroy the media, i.e. do not transfer the media to someone else, I don't see how you infringe copyright by keeping the back-up. But I guess some so-called creatives like the idea of making money in all kinds of hypothetical ways...
It is a nice dream, where you have to work once and then earn a lot of money by selling millions of copies from your work. But buyers can make copies too!! Hahahahahaha!

  • Getting my itunes library onto my new laptop

I have a very old laptop so have bought a new windows 8 one.
I followed the instructions to back up my library on my old laptop and transfer this to my new laptop via an external hard drive, which I have done. I now don't seem able to add this previous library to the itunes on my new laptop. I cant even open the previous library or see the tracks to add them to my library. Can anyone help?

    Hi there lynntoman,
I would recommend taking a look at the information found in the "External drive" section of the article below. From the sound of it, you may be at step 3.

You cannot copy music from the iPod using iTunes. The feature doesn't exist.
    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.

  • HT1364 I recently got a new laptop but I can't retrieve my iTunes folder from my old pc, how do I get my library on my new laptop as I don't want to set up a new one.

I recently had to buy a new laptop as my pc no longer worked.  I can't get my iTunes media folder off my old pc so how do I get my library onto my new laptop as I don't want to create a new library and erase everything off my iPhone.

There is no such thing as a "sub-account."  Also, you probably mean iTunes library, when you say "account."  Your "account" in iTunes is your Apple ID, which is what you use to sign in to the iTunes Store to make purchases.  iPods are associated with an iTunes library, not with an Apple ID (iTunes Store account).  You'll need to clarify...
So, this is what I think you are saying.  You previously shared an iTunes library on a computer with your friend.  Your old iPod was synced to that iTunes library.
You got an iPhone, and at that time, you set up your own iTunes library.  Is that on a different computer?  How does the iPhone affect your question about the iPod?
You got a new iPod.  What is your "old iTunes"?  Is that the iTunes library you shared with your friend?

  • I got a new laptop (Macbook Pro) and my IPhone is synced with my previous laptop. I've recorded dozens of very long (un-emailable) Voice Memos over the last few weeks and need to get them from my IPhone onto my new laptop. How do I do this?

I got a new laptop (Macbook Pro) and my IPhone is synced with my previous laptop (which I no longer have). I've recorded dozens of very long (un-emailable) Voice Memos over the last few weeks and need to get them from my IPhone onto my new laptop.
    How do I do this?
(when I click on the Sync option I get the warning: "Are you sure you want to sync music? All existing songs and playlists on the iPhone will be replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library." I fear that if I click this I will lose all of my important Voice Memos as well)

Just to add to what ChrisJ4203 said.  You can sync them to your new computer using iTunes by selecting to Include Voice Memos on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  However, you still need to re-establish syncing with the new computer without iTunes erasing all the iTunes media from your phone (as the warning mentioned).
If you copy your entire iTunes folder (not just your music) from your old computer to your new one, along with other non-iTunes media you may be syncing with iTunes (such as contacts, calendars and any photos synced to your phone from your old computer) by using migration assistant of following one of these methods: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527, then when you sync again with your new computer it will recognize your phone and sync as it did before.  You will still have to authorize the new computer for any Apple IDs used to purchase from the iTunes and App stores (in iTunes>Store>Authorize this computer).
After that you can sync your voice memos to your computer as mentioned earlier.
If you want to archive your voice memos before you do anything with iTunes, you can use a 3rd party program such as PhoneView or Touch Copy.

  • MacBook Air stolen recently. Can I re-install my purchased standalone LR5 onto a new laptop?

I purchased a standalone version of LR5 in February of this year. My  MacBook Air was stolen a few days ago (so sad), and I want to know - can re-install LR5 onto a new laptop (I have the serial number and my previous laptop was the first installation)?
This is a side question that perhaps I need to post into another thread, but I have over 7000 photos backed up onto an external HD, many of which were edited, yet previously I had lost many of those edits when I retrieved the images from the ext HD.
I have been managing my library outside of LR5 and only making LR5 aware of the location when I am editing a set, rather than importing into a main catalog inside of LR5. If the raw files are saved elsewhere (ext HD for example), then where is the non-destructive edit information saved, and should I be doing something different in the future in order to preserve the edits I have made?
Typically, when I am finished with a set, I have been exporting them as full-sized jpegs, which I know are saved, but how do I keep from losing the edits that haven't been exported?
    Thanks in advance...

I recently replaced a laptop. When I tried to activate Adobe CC it gave me a warning that CC was installed on 2 computers already, and a choice of going to one of the others and signing out, which I did, or singing out of both from that screen on Adobe's website. Point is that you should "sign out" of Adobe CC on the stolen computer so you still have another license to use and so the thief cannot use it. I am not entirely sure how to do that, but am sure there is a way.
Original post talked about purchasing the stand-alone version, so none of this applies.

  • I used home sharing to get my music onto my new laptop, why is my music now jumpy and crackly?

I imported Itunes onto my new laptop, and wanted to get my music library over easily. I couldn't work out how, but found home sharing so used that. Now, on my new laptop, all my music is horrid quality and really crackly. It is not the laptop. Can anyone help please?

Check that you have the latest version of iTunes (12.1.1.4 ) - many users encountered playback issues with the immediately preceding version (12.1.0.71), many of which are addressed in 12.1.1.4.
Make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime (7.6.6) installed - if this is missing or out of date there may be no audio output from iTunes (including, but not limited to, playback through Bluetooth devices) or playback may be of poor quality.
Also check the Play Audio Using setting in Edit > Preferences > Playback (you will have to restart iTunes for any changes to take effect).  In most cases selecting Direct Sound addresses playback issues when Windows Audio Session is active (though some users have reported the reverse),
If none of these solves your problem try installing this alternate version: iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards).  The "for older video cards" label is a little misleading, as this also fixes some playback issues, QuickTime and Outlook interoperability errors, and problems with other third-party applications.
