Importing New CD's in iTunes 10 is Very Slow
Apple needs to improve the speed in which iTunes imports CDs. Songs are imported at the same speed as my old Power Mac G4. The new computers have faster processors in them, why don't they take advantage of the processors installed in them? At times my G4 is faster at importing than my Macbook and my new iMac; this varies from CD to CD.
Troubleshooting CD ripping issues
The easiest thing to check is if it is just this CD. Try another one. If others work, then it is likely the CD.
Try an alternative ripper such as XLD or Max. Even though you may not want that as the long-term solution it will at least indicate whether the problem is with iTunes or something else.
If other CDs and rippers do not work, it could be the drive itself, or the part of the computer running the hardware. For the latter some have found a SMC reset to work.

Apple Portables: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
If you think it is the drive, you can try a cleaning disc (about $10 from a computer store or media store) to get rid of dust. I haven't had much success with these, though usually I am running some older machine on which I can expect a drive to die after 5 years of use.

With over 48000 songs, itunes loads very slow. Thinking it my be my pc I loaded it onto a new pc and get the same results. Is there anything I can do to getit to load under 5 seconds at least?
Dear Apple,
I need to complain about the same problem. I have 1/10th the songs in i-Tunes (~4800) and I cringe every time I want to start the program. The same delay happens anytime I load or switch a CD to import a song.
Google can load a billion links in a blink; can't you load a millionth of this info in the same amount of time? Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
Frustrated,

Changing artists names in iTunes is very slow (1 minute per song) in compilation albums
Changing artists names in iTunes is very slow (1 minute per song) in compilation albums. I am using iTunes 10.6.1 Mac OS X 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro with 4GB RAM 2.66 GHz Intel processor and my itunes library is 340GB. My new music is on the computer's hardrive (about 16GB) and the rest is in an external HD.
It used to work great until I switched to the new version of iTunes (10.6.1) and now changing the artist field is very very very slow (1 minute per song in compilaton albums)
What happened? Can someone help me?Thank you both!!!!!! Especially you, Limnos for adding onto the terrific answer from leonieDF. Yeah, I'm seldom willing to let the software do the driving all by itself. <heh> However, to date I've been too lazy to work with what is currently there - and needing to know how to customize the software was my first step.
I'm finally going to reduce the enormous physical size of my cd collection - organizing and storing the jewel cases is too great a nightmare not to mention that it has turned my livingroom into nothing more than a visually overwhelming variety of storage devices--spinners being my favorite, but now mostly unavailable outside of yard sales. Favorite disks I WILL keep to play in the car (no, my player is too old to have a USB port).
I'm getting a 2T external drive to hold the accumulation - but before that, I wanted to find out HOW to organize things so that I can find them myself - old school. My ITunes libraries go back many years, but I now want a good cohesive way to save the way that I want - not the way that is set up for me.
Thank you both again very, very much!!

ITunes is very slow when updating apps
Since a few days iTunes is very slow when updating apps and downloading updates for iPad etc.
Very often a download is ended with the message server reply time to long.
I'm running the latest updated version of iTunes on an iMac mid-2010 with latest OS. I have some 3-4 GB out of 12 GB memory free and 70GB free out of 500 GB storage. I have measured my internet connection speed and it is very good 95-98 Mbit/sec.
I can't see any obvious reason to why iTunes is so slow. Have anyone experienced this? Please help!Yes! I have the exact same issue. So I tried some things.
I am on Uvese (via wifi) and was trying to update the apps on my PC via itunes. Taking FOREVER. So i tired it directly from my iPhone 6 via wifi - same issue. Then I turned off wifi on the iPhone and updated over (ATT) LTE. That worked great. I am thinking it is a Uverse/ATT issue at this point. -
Updated iPhone 4s ios 6.1 App Store and iTunes is very slow sometimes does not open what to do?
My App Store won't even open all the way and says request failed or something along those lines.

Hi
My iTunes is very slow, when it starts up, i have the newest version, i have just updated.
It has allways been a problem, do any of you have the same problem, and is there a solution on the problem??How long is "forever"? I have been experimenting with startup times with my music collection (on a FW400 external drive) - on a G4 MDD it takes 60 secs to load, but on a MacBook it takes 30 secs. This even though the MacBook has much less RAM. So I am wondering if processor speed is what is being overloaded as the iTunes library file loads........ Can any of you provide actual numbers?
What Mac? How big a music collection? How long to load? Is there a pattern here? -
The new google streetview (which does not use Flash) is unusable and renders very slow starting with pixelated images that progressively build. The slowness is not present in FF30.0 on Windows.
It seems to be an issue in Linux Mint as well: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=180542
It seems to be quite common on the google map forums: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/maps/rWUCllpDDSE
There seems to be bug open already: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=697443
But why does FF30.0 on windows work O.K but not FF31.2.0 on Linux?

Downloading CD into iTunes is very slow
If I insert a CD, play selected tracks through iTunes, and then try to download the songs, the transfer rate is very slow 1x to 2x. The drive sounds like it is working very hard as well. If I then eject the disk, reinsert, and then download, the speed is normal ... about 9x. If I simply stop playing a song and then try downloading, that doesn't work. Odd. Any ideas so I don't have to keep ejecting?
Welcome to AD!
+Can bad internet service cause the slowness in importing CD's?+
I'm not sure, but an easy test would be to unplug the network cable from your PC. It will of course get disconnected from the internet, and you can see if CDs import any faster. -
MacBook Pro 2009 new hard drive install results in very slow function and freezing
I just wanted to post my resolution to a problem that I had trouble finding an answer to on these forums.
Short version:
I replaced the hard drive in my 2009 MacBook Pro because the computer froze and upon reboot the Disk Utility said it was corrupted, but with the new hard drive the computer ran very slowly and often showed the spinning rainbow wheel. I replaced the SATA cable that connects the hard drive to the motherboard and it works perfectly once again.
Long version:
Recently my MacBook Pro (2009 running Snow Leopard) froze up and I performed a hard reset by holding down the power button. When I turned the computer back on it would not boot OS so I ran disk utility from the Snow Leopard install DVD. The test said the hard drive was corrupted, and since the computer is way past warranty I decided to change the drive out myself. I bought a 500GB Seagate Momentus 5400 Drive from Amazon, opened the computer and replaced the existing hard drive with the new one. When I first booted from the OS install DVD, my computer was not recognizing that any hard drive was present. I read somewhere on these forums that sometimes the formatting on new Seagate drives can't be read by MacBooks and they need to be reformatted using another computer, but I tried simply taking the hard drive out and putting it back in a couple of times thinking maybe I had just not plugged it in correctly. After the 4th attempt the hard drive magically showed up, and I was able to reformat the drive and install OS and even Windows XP on bootcamp.
Everything seemed to be okay but applications were running slowly considering this was a fresh drive and OS install. Over time, the computer started to hang more and more. In OS I would get the spinning rainbow wheel even when doing something as simple as opening a browser window in Chrome or trying to type into a text field. When I tried to use Windows it would simply freeze after only a short time and I'd have to do a hard reset.
I went to the Genius Bar at the Apple store which was unhelpful, so I continued searching through these forums to try to figure out the problem. I noticed a lot of people had trouble with the SATA cable that came with the computer because it's quite thin and delicate, and would get damaged when changing out the hard drive. However most of these people seemed to experience a question mark when starting up the computer, whereas mine would fully boot and be functional for a time. I thought it unlikely that a damaged cable could possibly leave the computer partially functional. Finally though I gave in a dropped the $26 for a new SATA cable on Amazon. As soon as I installed it the problem was fixed, and the computer runs as fast as when I first bought it. I don't know if I damaged the cable changing the hard drive (I was extremely careful) or if my original hard drive was not actually corrupted and the cable was already damaged. I mentioned the possibility of the cable being damaged at the Apple store and the representative said that often times they fail because people carry the laptop with one hand, and because of the way this model was designed this puts a lot of pressure right on that thin cable. Regardless, if you do plan on changing out your hard drive in your MacBook keep in mind that the SATA cable is sensitive, and that if you experience problems with a fresh hard drive and OS install the SATA cable is a likely culprit. If you think you have either a hard drive or a cable problem, to the best of my knowledge the only product that can help isolate both of them is Scannerz. You can check it out at:
http://scsc-online.com/Scannerz.html
I think that's the correct link. If it isn't and you're interested and that's wrong, just google it. I'd also check out their downloads section, especially the sort of short document on using path isolation to detect and isolate problems.
Scannerz can detect both errors and irregularities. It uses the surface scan progress as a reference. Cable problems never show up at the same location because they're typically intermittent. Surface problems always show up at the exact same place. That's the only product (at least commercially available) that can do that.
I don't know if this information is of any value to you because it sort of sounds like you've already solved the problem, but it might be of use if you have problems in the future.
In any case, I've seen several posts on several different sites where people were reporting insulation break down on some of the SATA cables. Apparently the insulation breaks down and the cable starts shorting to the case. -
Brand New Machine and Photoshop CS6 running very slow
I just installed Photoshop CS6 on my new Machine and it is running horrible. Moving around objects, turning effects on/off, zooming, and more all take for ever to render. I can not figure out why. I have updated video card drivers and more. Scratch Disk is set to a second disk and messed with all of the GPU settings. Only photoshop runs bad on this machine. I should not be having issues with the system. Below is the system info from Photoshop. Also this machine is running with two SSD drives which should make PS run even faster.

Tried Photoshop at all sorts of various settings including default. All with the D drive being used for the Scratch disk. Working on the similar size file described above. The file I am working on now is 4000 x 4800 pixels, CMYK, 8 bit depth. Photoshop is slow selecting layers with auto select, very slow when moving layers around the Canvas, and slow rendering the Canvas when zooming in and out. This document also has about 30 layers and is 80mg.
I only use the 64 bit version of Photoshop these days. Also all three monitors are set at 60 Hertz. Photoshop is closed and reopened upon all changes.
I use to be a Photoshop Certified Expert in CS3 so I am extremely familar with the product. I am just stumped. -
Brand new Macbook Pro 10.8.2 very slow wifi
All of my other wireless devices are very quick on my home wifi. I am using a macbook pro, 2.5 GHz i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
I have installed all updates, tried making a new network location, still very slow. 8 hours to download a 4.6 GB app from the store. My 06 iMac will download files this size in minutes and it's still running pre snow leopard OSX. Anyone know whats going on here? I'm very disappointed so far. Hope there is a fix.My new 2013 MacBook Pro 13" retina had same WiFi issue. Please go to this Website and follow the instructions to change your router's settings. http://www.s0hel.com/blog/401/fixed-slow-wifi-issue-with-new-macbook-pro/
Yesterday I changed my router's settings and now I don't see any WiFi issues.
I hope this works for you. -
Upgrading to iTunes 9 -- /VERY/ slow now..
So when I "updated" to iTunes 9.0, all of a sudden, it's running excruciatingly slowly for me. When I first installed 9.0, it took about 8 hours to "update my library". Any time that I click on a song to play it, there's a good 10-second beachballing before it plays. Switching to a different song causes the same issue. I didn't have that problem at all in iTunes 8. Always ran smooth as silk.
I rolled back to the latest version of iTunes 8. When iTunes 9.01 was released, I once again "updated" iTunes. Same exact issue.
Currently, I have my iTunes library file stored on my local HDD and my music/videos/etc stored in a shared folder on a NAS. Apparently, other people have had issues with music stored on external drives. I'd done a search and the only real "solution" that I could find was to delete the iTunes preference file. I tried that and it worked.. until I added more music to the library. After more music was added, it was back to the same VERY slow behavior as before.
Is there a more permanent solution to this and I am just not finding it? Is this a known issue that Apple is working on? Going to roll back to iTunes 8 once again.
Thanks in advance for anyone's help.Hi there,
I downgraded to iTunes 8.2 as well and haven't looked back (forward). I saw iTunes 9.0.1 come out but thought I'd wait to hear if it had sorted out any of the problems. But sounds like it hasn't.
iTunes 8.2 was the sweet spot I think. Not only does 9 not work well, but it looks and feels awful too. It's such a shame they've messed up what was a great piece of software. I really hope they address all these issues, but I doubt it. RIP iTunes! -
Itunes is very slow to load and takes forever to recognize iphone
My itunes has been running VERY slow. It takes several minutes to open, then it is unuseable for another several minutes. Here it can browse my library but my iphone doesn't show up. after this it takes five to ten minutes to recognize the iphone. it was working yesterday when I updated my iphone to 4.3.5, then suddenly this happened.
Any clues? I installed the most up to date version and it has the same symptoms and eventually says iTunes was unable to load data class information from sync services. Reconnect or try again laterI was able to get my iTunes functional again after disabling a lot of my windows services -- use this thread for your reference:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292?viewlocale=en_US
I haven't pinpointed exactly which service(s) were causing the iTunes slowdown, as I haven't had time to test re-enabling all of them yet. But so far I've just disabled the services that I know I don't need anymore and iTunes has been running like a champ =) -
ITunes downloading very slow.
Hi guys,
I've experienced a vast decrease in speed on my iTunes for downloading apps and even using WiFi to download apps/updating them.
Are there any problems currently with iTunes stores? Because this is the first time this has happened. I'm from SGP and my ISP speed is 15MBps. Appreciate if there's anyone out there who can help. Thanks alot.Hey there Kimber.c,
It sounds like your Wi-Fi connection is very slow on this computer. I would try the steps in this section of the article named:
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628?viewlocale=en_US
Symptom: The Wi-Fi network seems slow
Streaming movies may skip or pause.
iTunes or other downloads may take an unusually long time to complete.
Webpages may not load quickly.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,

Trying to download Itunes 10 and it's either very slow or completely "locks up". Says estimate time 20+ hours......????
Is there some problem I'm missing?Hi..
No problems downloading from the iTunes Store here...
Try turning off your router for a few minutes then turn it back on and restart your PC.
Then from the iTunes menu bar click Store > Check for Available Downloads...

Security issue with content areas
Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. If you have, is there a work around? It seems like some of content area security is cached in the database. This is what happened in my two test cases. Test case 1: - First I created s
