Importing No Longer Working

I have an emac with OS X 10.4.4 and IPhoto 5.0.4.
I have a Canon Elph.
One day IPhoto just stopped recognizing my camera -- I get nothing. I've tested the camera and ubs cord on an older mac running older software and there are no problems.
(I've also recently had problems printing as well.)
Any suggestions very much appreciated.

When iPhoto 5 first came out I really think it was programmed to import the smaller 30 sec video clips that cameras were taking at the time. Since then, digital cameras, at least my Canon S2 can take clips as large as your memory card can hold. The first time I tried to download my images and movie clips with my new camera, iPhoto stalled at the movie clips. I wasn't going to take any chances messing up my iPhoto Library so I started using Image Capture to download all my images and Movie clips. I actually like doing it this way a lot better. My movie clips are downloaded into my Movies folder where I then put them in a dated folder.
My photos are downloaded into my Pictures folder, where I then put them in a dated folder. I import the dated folder into iPhoto. I also keep all dated folders from photo downloads in the Pictures folder till I get enough Movie folders and Photo folders to fill a DVD. I burn them and then delete them from the hard drive.
This way I have the photos in iPhoto and I also have just the photos backed up to DVD.
The Movies I keep on the hard drive in their dated folders until I use all the clips for my iMovie projects for the Year. I then make sure they are all burned to DVD, then I delete those from my hard drive.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

Since the last round of updates, I can no longer import MP4 files ripped using HandBrake. We record our church services to DVD, then I use HandBrake to rip them, and iMovie to build our podcasts. Digital camera video .avi imports no longer work

I have been using my Canon S3IS as a source for .avi clips in iMovieHD 6.0.3 (267.2) for some time. Now I can't edit clips imported from the camera properly: transitions don't work: the audio mutes during the transition period and sometimes the screen goes black. I've tried creating projects as DV and MPEG-4 and neither helps.
I figure this has something to do with a change in Quicktime. Is it possible for me to work again as I have been so happily for so long?

Preserving titles when sharing - importing no longer working?

I could be going crazy, but I'm pretty sure in the past that when I did the following...
1. On the iPhoto library on the first computer, set an album to be shared (Preferences > Sharing > Share selected albums),
2. On the second computer, select the shared album in the list at the left, then drag the photos into the second computer's iPhoto library to import them.
...the titles used to be preserved.
When I've recently tried it under iPhoto 8.1.1, the titles of the imported photos revert to filenames, eg, IMG_1096.JPG, instead of the title from the first computer, eg, "My little girl making her first jelly."
The correct title is visible on the shared album (when VIEWING the pictures from the first computer on the second computer), and if I'm remembering correctly, used to be transferred along with the image when IMPORTING, but now is not. I'm sure I haven't done anything except apply recommended updates.
Has anything about the metadata importing been altered, or am I remembering expected behavior wrongly?

Many(including myself) have had this problem of the ATV losing home sharing and airplay. I have after many months of frustration solved my issue and hopefully it will solve yours. Go into your network settings on the ATV and change it's IP from Automatic to manual. The current IP will be there, so don't worry about how to find it. Just assign the last number of the address a higher number like 35. This will assure that the ATV always connects at this IP and no other devices on your network will conflict with it. I have had no drops of airplay or network sharing after making this change. Hope this helps.

Import form cam no longer works after Update to iLife 09

Hi, I've updated to iLife 09 and installed the most recent patches. With iLife 08 my Fujifilm Finepix F30 was recognized by my mac book pro, iPhoto starded up an the contet of the cam was presented for import as soon as I connected it by USB. With iLife 09 all this no longer works. iPhote is fired up but nothing else happens but that iPhote freezes so the only thin I an do is to kill it ... now it's more or less useless for me

Start with the troubleshooting basics:
1. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
2. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

It does not magically appear in a new place. It will only be where you put it.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

Importing Videos No Longer Works

Recently, iPhoto stopped recognizing and importing videos from my cameras.
I used to work fine, now, I'm not sure what happened, it no longer works.
Is this common or just occurring for me?
Any comments appreciated.

Nay. The videos will not appear anywhere except on the camera.
I take the card out, and no videos. So I know they are on the card.
The camera records in AVCHD Lite and Motion JPEG.
The videos I'm having problems with are AVCHD Lite.
I found TD's posting about these file types and was able to import the video using iMovie.
Once in iMovie, I found the source of the imported images and added them to iPhoto.
I'm changing the setting to Motion JPEG so I don't have to do this in the future.

Importing form a shared CD drive no longer works???

I use a Mac mini for my music library in the living room. Since it has no CD drive built in I use a MBP with a CD drive to import from. It no longer works since the latest updates.
Any ideas wy?

Check the paper documentation that came with your iMac. There should be a doc titled "AppleCare Service and Support Contact Information" that lists support phone numbers for about 30 countries. On mine, the last country in the list is the UK. The phone number is (44) 0870 876 0753 & the website is http://www.apple.com/uk/support/
At the bottom of my contact info doc, it says to find the most current phone contact info, see www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html. I just checked & it has the same info as above.
Poking around a bit on the UK page, I found this Contacting Apple page with still more UK-specific info & links.
It doesn't look like Apple is trying to hide anything to me. Rather, it is just such an enormous web site that you may need to refer to the materials included with your Mac to find the right place to look.
Or, as we yanks sometimes say, "When all else fails, read the manual."

My computer is no longer working and I had hundreds of songs in my iTunes library, but when I tried to join on my laptop I couldn't get my songs, it asked me if I wanted to change computers but I'm scared in case they get deleted .

Link to A folder View in a PDF Portfolio - feature no longer working - please advise

Hi, I am no longer able to link to a Folder View of a PDF Portfolio:
Within a PDF portfolio i need to link from a PDF to a folder view in the Portfolio. I am using Link Action - Go to Page View.
This used to work for me - very important feature that no longer works. Please advise a workaround.
Steps:
1. Start a PDF Portfolio that contains files and folders
2. Open a PDF in the Portfolio
3. in the opened PDF click Add or Edit Link
4. Define a link area and set it to Go To A Page Vies
5. In the past i have been able to target a Folder View in the Portfolio - ie. direct a user not to a file, but instead to a folder view that contains relevant files. I would do this by setting the Target Page View to my desired folder view
6. This used to work in bringing a user to the folder view i specify. Now it does nothing. If i go back to the PDF and EDIT the Link i see this. File: Parent Document Page 1. This in fact does nothing.
Please advise, am i doing this wrong, it used to work. I have tried several workarounds, with no luck.

There's an extension or two, or a combination of extensions which seem to be causing that in Firefox 6.0.2. One that has been mentioned is TabMix Plus.

You need to figure out what is causing it, and disable that extension/s until they are fixed by their developer.

iTunes no longer works on my Windows VISTA system. Get error msg saying an application is attempting to access C runtime library incorrectly... Error 7, Windows error 1114. Same msg, or one that says unable to install, when trying to update or reinstall iTunes. iTunes worked well up until about a month ago when this error msg starting appearing.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

You can never, never migrate an installed copy of PSE. It's just too complex and you can't get to all the bits and bobs.
First you will have to download and run this:
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
which will not seem to do anything, but is necessary to break the links within PSE so that you can pitch the bits manually. Then you will have to go around, not only to applications, but also to your username>library>preferences and most importantly to the library at the top level of your hard drive>application support>adobe, and remove everything you can find. Spotlight will not help with this kind of search, so don't try that.
Then you can install PSE from scratch.

I just installed the Lion operating system, basically to upgrade my iPhone. I didn't realize that my Microsoft Office 2004 application would no longer work. I have been using Word for my writing and I receive most of my emails with Word attachments. I have been using Apple products for years, always touting their reliability and customer service. I am not a techie, I just want to be able to do what I do on the computer and Apple always fulfilled my needs. Now I am told because of some operating system gobbledygook, I have to go out and purchase new software to use Word. This is despicable. I see no particular benefit to using Lion, but I do see a lot of detriments. Apple now seems to have turned into Microsoft, making software obsolete so they can make more money and to **** with the customer. You can be sure that my next computer will be a PC. I have completely lost confidence in Apple.

I seem to never tire of saying this. It was for Apple when they first announced 10.7 to disclose this. Yes, it was widely reported -- or rather, rumored -- but not by Apple. And many people who have gotten caught by this assumed that Apple itself would have told them beforehand about the loss of this very important feature which they had come to rely on. As far as I know, not even in fine print, does this appear anywhere on the Lion announcement or any of its links.
I am not saying Apple had to continue Rosetta in Lion, or forever, just that if it was going to be dropped, it should have been made known.
As relative "insiders" we should not forget that many people don't have the time, habit or interest to do this kind of research. I think it is a breach of trust that Apple has never directly made this announcement or given people the opportunity to decide beforehand if giving up their PPC apps for a new OS is a worthwhile tradeoff.

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:

Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under iTunes>Preferences(under the edit menu if using Windows)>Devices in itunes.
2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book & iCal or Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, DO NOT SYNC at this point.
4. Store>Authorize this computer.
5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
7. Right click again and select backup.
8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

Kuler no longer working in InDesign CS4

I've been googling this a lot but haven't found a (working) solution yet. I did find a link to what could be a solution, but the link is not working anymore.
I'm an IT guy in an office where we have a small team of four people using Adobe Creative Suite 4. Recently they contacted me asking for help because Kuler was no longer working for them (it stopped working for all four).
I installed InDesign CS4 on my own machine only to see that it does not work for me either. The error message is "No internet connection detected. Your computer must be online in order to search or access kuler themes".
When I go to Windows -> Extensions -> Connections I'm able to login, but not able to search for updates, I just get "The update server is unavailable".
When running the Kuler Air app I just get "kuler klash, please try again later".
Because we're a big company we do of course have antivirus and firewalls. To make sure that the problem isn't because of this I installed InDesign on a machine (server) on a completely different network with less strict firewall and no antivirus on the machine, but It's just the same error message as before.
Our machines are running Windows 7 Enterprise (the extra test was done on a Windows 2012 Server).
Is Kuler just not working for CS4 anymore?

The Kuler team recently rebuilt the backend of the Kuler service for security, maintenance, and peformance reasons. (the old back-end was showing signs of failure).
Anyway, it seems the new backend is not working with old Kuler APIs (CS3, CS4, and the air app and mac widget). Adobe typically provides support for up to two versions back. At the moment, that's CS5 or newer. So, I'm afraid it's not likely that you can expect a fix for CS4.
At this point, your team can use the web application to browse, create, and search themes. They can also download themes as ASE files (on the website) to import into InDesign CS4.
