Importing Now Up to Date to iCal

For years I've used a calendar application called Now Up to Date, which also has a companion contact manager. I've resisted converting to iCal because I have so much information on the calendar, including many events that repeat not just from week to week but year to year. However, I think the time has come. Is there a way to import my calendar date to iCal? There are some archived questions on this topic from several years ago, but they were not helpful. I've heard of a free utility called NUD to iCal that claims to do this but would like to know if anyone has tried this and, if so, how well it worked. As a last resort, I guess I could undertake the laborious process of manually re-entering all of my calendar data. Either way, should I do this while I'm still using Snow Leopard or wait until I upgrade to Lion?

  • Importing Now Up-to-Date into iCal (again)

Hi -- I tried some of the solutions posted, but none worked. (For instance, Entourage gives me a message that it cannot import because a Now Up-to-Date file can't be found.) I've dead-ended. Any new solutions, since the last ones wre posted? Thanks!

I just did a full migration from Now Up-to-Date to iCal and was successful using a tip obtained elsewhere. The key is to pass the data through Excel and Palm Desktop. Now can't export vCal yet and iCal won't import tab delimited text. However, Palm Desktop can import tab-delimted text and export vCal.
I don't think you can successfuly create multiple iCal calendars from the Now categories going through Palm Desktop; I didn't try that. To make sure it worked out, I did it using multiple export/imports doing one Now category at a time by passing it through Excel. Here's a summary of the steps:
    1. Export your date rage from Now in tab-delimited format.
    2. Open the export file in Excel, sort by category.
    3. Extract all entries for each category into separate workbooks, save each as tab-delimited text file format.
    4. Open Palm Desktop and create a new calendar for the category (e.g business, personal, special events, etc.) Save it in a temp place like your desktop.
    5. Import the text file to the new Palm Desktop calendar
    6. Export from Palm Desktop to a vCal file
    7. Create a new calendar in iCal for the category to be imported
    8. Import the vCal file into that calendar.
Repeat steps 4-8 for each Now category.
There were some anomolies I couldn't explain (like some single-day all-day events becoming two-day events in iCal), but I just cleaned those up manually.
Repeating events in the Now Calendar will become multiple single events in iCal. Also, if you have any commas in titles or notes, the process of passing through Excell wil put " " around those entries in iCal. If this bothers you, you could pass the saved Excel text files (from step 3) through a text editor (Text Wrangler works best, TextEdit should do it also) to delete the quotes if you want.

  • Importing Now Up To Date Calendar into iCal

I have been using NUTD for ten years. It is now starting to crash often with the latest OS software. So I would like to import my entire NUTD calendar into iCal. However, I cannot figure out how to do this. I have looked at discussions on the subject, but they all seem to be several years old. Any new ideas on doing this? I have a Bed and Breakfast and need the past ten years calendar info, plus the reservation info that goes out three year from now. So I need to import 13 years worth of calendar data.

  • Converting/Importing Now  Up To Date files to iCal

Is there a way to import all my Now Up To Date info into iCal?

    Brad,
Since you used the word "convert" it implies to me that you are moving from the windows version.
If that is true, you may find some help at Now Software Support.

  • Calendar from Now-Up-To-Date sync wtih iCal and iPhone

I've been struggling to sync my current Now Up To Date calendar with my iphone and I think I have a solution for at least a one-way sync. Here's a copy of my post from another forum. I hope it helps others....
Does anyone else have a better solution?
I've been using my Treo as a go-between for Now Up To Date and iCal with software from The Missing Sync. This seems to work as a one-way sync from NUD to my iCal. I sent an email to them asking for help and here's their reply:
    Description of problem:
Hi. I've been trying to use your software to get my data from Now Up To Date (NUD) to iCal so that I can have it on my iPhone. I know you don't support the iPhone, but maybe you can see if my approach is valid at all. I have a profile in The Missing Sync that only uses the NUD conduit. It is able to get any changes to my Treo 700p just fine. Then I made another profile that only uses the Mark/Space Tasks and Events conduits to get that data from the Treo to iCal. Somehow it worked a few times, but not any more. Is my idea a good one? Should I keep trying or give it up?
    Steps to Reproduce:
    Here's my steps.
    1) Profile named NUD Treo. Has active only the NUD conduit, set to synchronize. I run the sync from the Treo and all changes I made in NUD are transfered to the Treo just fine.
    2) I change to the profile named Treo iCal. I have slected the two condiuts, Mark/Space Events and Mark/Space Tasks. I have it set to synchronize all categories. When I run the sync from the Treo, it works for a bit, but none of the changes show up in iCal. Even though the items show in the Treo's calendar, they don't transfer to iCal.
A couple of times when I did the transfer I saw a comment "pushing from handheld".... and on those syncs the data showed up. But it doesn't always say that and the data doesn't transfer on thos syncs.
The reply from The Missing Sync's Support:
    Hello,
    Yes, that procedure should work.
First, update to 5.1.2 if you haven't done so yet. http://www.markspace.com/ftp/missingsyncpalmos5.1.2.dmg
Then follow these directions to have the Palm overwrite the Mac's Address Book and iCal.

  • Now Up To Date and Now Contact Sync with iPhone

I purchased an iPhone after using a Treo 700 with my Mac. All my calendar data is in Now Up To Date and all my contacts are in Now Contact. How do I best transition to the iPhone?
Should I export data from Now to the Apple applications and forget about Now Up To Date and Now Contact?
Any help and instruction would be great. I am ready to leave my treo behind!

  • How to import my data(Mail, iCal, iTune songs & apps, etc.) to MacBook Pro?

I used firewire cable to migrate my data from old PBG4 to new MacBook Pro.
But still wonder how I can bring or import
    - my old mails from Mail
    - iCal schedules
    - Address Book cotacts
    - iTunes songs & all apps for iPhone
    - some Safari/ Firefox bookmark
Thanks much in advance for help!

I understood the location where I could import from or export to. But I was (and am) quite confused to understand possible problems if the importing files are not compatible on two different computers such as G4 and intel-based mac.
Now I'm done importing those data, but not quite sure I did check correct way if those files are compatible. Everything seems fine, though.

  • IPhone & Now Up to Date - Possible Low Tech Solutions

iPhone calendar problem. My office uses Now Up to Date to organize my schedule. I used to be able to sync NUD with my old Treo, but with my new iPhone it looks like that might not be possible for a while. I thought of a possible low tech solution, but not sure if it will work and since I'm not very versed in applescript, I need a little help. Here's my crazy plan...
The idea is to write an applescript that will open NUD, save a copy of the month view as a .pdf (using that option in print window), save to a folder, open mail, create a new email to myself and then attach the calendar .pdf, send to my email on my iPhone. Then I would at least have a .pdf of my schedule to view on my phone when I'm away from the office. One last hurdle, it would be great if I could set the script to run on a timed schedule (every 2/3 hours)
Am I crazy? Is that possible? If not, anyone have any clever solutions until NUD works with iPhone?
      Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Thanks for the response. I found a "solution" similar to what your proposing...
    • Save "archive" of NUD calendar to desktop
    • Delete all iCal calendars (I feel like I have to do this because with this method I am creating and importing a completely new iCal calendar everyday. That could get messy fast without getting rid of the old ones)
    • Then run apple script that converts the archive file to an iCal file and then imports
    • Sync to phone
    • Repeat everyday (ouch)
This version will actually utilize the iCal program on my iPhone (unlike my original idea). But as I mention above, it could become painful doing this manually everyday while I wait for the NUD fix.

  • Adress book dates to iCal

I would like to have the dates I entered on an Address Book Card to iCal. I know to select "show birthdays" to get birthdays shown on iCal. But, what of anniversaries or other custom dates I need associated with a contact. How can I get all those dates also to automatically be added to iCal.
For example. I have a friend, who is European, where they celebrate a name day. So, for that contact I have a 1) Birthday Entry, 2) an Anniversary Entry, and 3) a Name Day Entry (which is a custom date field I created in my address book).
The only option I can find is for birthdays to be displayed. Is there another way???

When you create the custom date, close the editing aspect. You now see the date on the card. Right or alternate click the date. Select: "Create New iCal Event". It brings up a dialogue box. You have to name it. Then, you select the "repeat" option, and select the "Every Year" option. Then press, Add to iCal. This is manual labor, but It will now be repeated every year. You will also have to select a calendar. You may have to manually, create the calendar. Call it "important dates", or "name celebrations" or what ever you want.
After you set up the repeat option, it will automatically be repeated every year on that date.

  • Import To Dos from Palm to iCal

I am switching to a new phone/pda that does not sync with Palm but does with iCal and Address Book. However, I am unable to import my To Do list into iCal. When I try to Export To Dos my only options are as Palm files or Tab & Return. It seems to me that I had once played around with iCal ( just out of curiosity) and that I was able to Import the To Dos with no problem.
    What am I missing? Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I'm afraid that you're stuck. The Palm Desktop has no provision to export task data in any form which can be imported into iCal: it provides only for export as a Palm Desktop file, or a tab-delimited file.
iCal can import only iCal files, vCal files (like those the Palm Desktop can export for event data) and Entourage files.

  • How do I transfer data to iCal?

I am finally making the switch from my PC to Mac. The biggest stumbling block has been how I can transfer the data in my Daytimer program into iCal. Daytimer help file says to select ASCII to format export data. Can I get some guidance on importing data into iCal?

Thanks!  I talked to Apple about this on the phone.  They helped me figure out to check the sync box for contacts, iCal, and then "merge info."  All of my music and videos will not merge over to the computer unless the data is formatted by Apple.  But at least I can get my contacts and my iCal events transfered over!  Thanks Apple for helping me with this issue.

  • I cannot use my Now Up-to-Date

Yesterday I stupidly upgraded to Maverick 10.9 from OSX Mountain Lion! I ran Now Up-to-Date & Contact on Mountain Lion with no problem, but now that I have upgraded my system, I cannot use my Contact software. I work from home and this is a nightmare. Apparently I cannot go back to Mountain Lion now that I have upgraded - has anybody any clue as to how I can run my software again?
I was advised to buy Mountain Lion but was told by Apple that it doesn't come as a replacement pen disc?!
Help please ........ I do have an external back up system.

    I feel your pain!
I have been a loyal Now Software person for over 10 years, but I knew this day would come since the last time I updated my software the quick contact menu bar became inactive....so I knew it was just a matter of time. I now bought a new computer and I can no longer use it- but I am lucky because I still have my old computer to reference... About a year ago I did an intense search for software that was comparable. I read a bunch of articles on the topic and I tried many of them that had a 30-day free trial, all ending in being losers to me. I did however, find one that sounded good and after much research, as well as several calls to their sales and emails to customer service, I took the plunge and made a purchase. They have a trial version,  you can navigate through it, but cant really use it as your won until you pay for it. I am happy to say- almost a year later I am sooo happy with it! I started using the calendar part first, but still used Now for my contacts primarily since it had all my notes which don’t transfer- and I have been meaning to dedicate a week or two to take care of that, but with over a 1000 contacts- I was procrastinating putting in the hours. Now I have no option but to do so immediately!
The parallel suggestion sounds genius as a temporary option, but I cannot recommend enough this software by Market Circle called Daylight!
Its layout is intuitive and being a mac person for almost 20 years now, that is really important to me.
Their customer service is excellent! The best way to get in touch with them is through email and they usually answer within 24 hours. Their website has a bunch of tutorials that are very helpful. My tech person who I am in contact with from time to time just wrote me an email last week checking in and making sure everything was going well with me- something I have never seen in any software company! They are base in Canada.
One of the things that I liked about this company's software is that they also have an app for my iPhone and so for the first time I don’t have to say to people that I will have to wait to schedule a meeting when I get back to my office to use my computer! I update my calendar on my phone and then sync the two with wifi when Im near my computer.
The software is set up for a large company to use- which was a bit overwhelming for me at first since I am a one man show- so to speak... so parts of the software are a bit overkill for me- but that is ok- I can choose to use or not use those parts! Better too much than too little.
Anyway, Good luck with everything and I hoped what I am saying is helpful!

  • I have followed "Importing favorites and other data from Internet Explorer" but although I've worked through the dtages and it says it has worked, the expected internet explorer folder does not appear in bookmarks

I have installed Firefox today, and like the look of and the speed. But I have an extensive set of foldersin my IE Favorites and remebered passwords I don't want to have to reimput.
I have now tried twice folowing "Importing favorites and other data from Internet Explorer " which seemed to go smoothly, once with IE open and the other with it closed, and closed down my PC between each attempted installation. Any ideas?

It usually works better if you export the Favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File

I was trying to get my personal computer contacts and calendar in outlook on my iphone and ipad.  I was told to use icloud.  I went to control panel and then icloud and selected my contacts and calendar.  Now ALL MY DATA IS DELETED FROM OUTLOOK.  Help!!

I was just on the line with Apple Tech support.  First of all, I learned that when you link contacts to iCloud, it moves all your contacts to another/new address book...look for aother address books and you will see it.  But I found the new address book dies weird things and changes the "Display Names" format.  Evidently (per Apple support tech) there is no way to avoid this problem...so I just delinked the iCloud from my contacts.  The contacts stayed in the iCloud address book...so I exported them to a CSV (comma separated value) file and saved it on my desktop and then imported that list into my original contacts folder.  Now everything is back the way it was...being able to use my contact address book the way I did before.  I was surprised that they never considered or realized this problem...but then the tech guy admitted that they really don't have A LOT of experience using Windows PC's.
