Importing ntsc video through a pal camera

hello
this summer ive been into the usa and taped some of the vacation with a camera there (ntsc).
back at home (in sweden) ive got a pal camera. the camera can play the tapes without any problem (it recognises that its ntsc) in the player mode, but when i try to capture them into premiere it just is black or there are weird colors everywhere.

Check your owner's manual to see if your camcorder supports sending NTSC data via the firewire port. It is possible your camcorder can play the NTSC footage, but cannot transfer it via firewire.
Cheers

  • Importing VHS video through digital camera

I am importing VHS video through my Sony camera (TRV22) to imovie.  For some reason it the screen will go blue for a few seconds then the picture will come back.  I was doing this on a older power pc mac and imovie would just stop recording.  On my new imac it doesn't stop recording but the screen goes blue.    Has this happened to anyone else and maybe know what is causing it?  Should I try a different way of video transfer with some other software?  Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Two possible causes:
    Faulty or badly connected cables
    You are not using Firewire

You will have to free some space up on your iPhone. Buying more iCloud storage will not increase the capacity of your iPhone. For the most part iCloud storage is for your iOS backups, documents such as iWork files and iCloud email. Aside from iTunes Match and PhotoStreams which do not count towards iCloud storage you can not store media files on iCloud. PhotoStream is not a photo backup service nor does it support video yet, it's intended use is for sharing and transferring photos to other devices.
Not sure of your setup but chances are you have a lot of video and photos on your iPhone taking up your storage space. These should be copied over to a computer where they can be properly backed up and organize. Once organized you can transfer them back to the iPhone through iTunes. You can sync a smaller number to free space. Or since you have a copy on the computer it is now possible to delete the photos from your iPhone when have the need to make a new video. Settings/General/Usage/Photos & Camera then swipe sideways to reveal the delete button is a quick way to delete photos in the library when you need more space. Ensure you still have a backup on a PC and an external drive.

  • Iphoto 6 not importing all video's from digital camera

when I import my images and video's from my digital camera, it only imports the very short video's but not the long ones and I have to copy them manually, is there a setting in preferences I can change?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately not. This is a recognised problem with v6, and as v6 hasn't been updated since 2006 I wouldn't hold out much hope for a fix.

  • Can I import both from NSTC and PAL cameras in one project?

    Hi there.
    I have a question.
I am going to start on a project, a music video, and import video footage recorded from a SONY HVR-Z7U in America, that is 29.97fps NSTC.
I'm also going to film in Europe, with a Canon HV30, that is PAL.
So I wonder if there will be any problems importing both HD NSTC and HD PAL footage to a project? Or how should I do.
I have already opened a 1080i30(60) HD project in CS4 and started playing with the NSTC footage. Is it correct?
    Thank you

Why not shoot a trial clip in PAL and test it in your project?

  • NTSC footage for a Pal DVD

will the client be able to play this dvd in europe?
    i would appreciate any help

You cannot import NTSC assets into a PAL DVDSP project. You must first re-encode your movie to the right standard.
You can find some info about how to do so in this thread in Compressor forum:

  • Convert Compact Camera NTSC Video to PAL DVD

    Hi All,
I am trying to take video footage from my compact Canon digital stills camera, which is 640 x 420, 30fps AVI, and make it useable for a PAL DVD. I use FCP for my editing and normally DVDSP for DVD creation. In FCP, as I normally edit in PAL, the footage from my camera looked jerky, presumably as the frame rates were mismatched. I discovered that the preset NTSC 48k seemed to match it perfectly - frame size and rate, no jerkiness or disortion of the image.
The workflow from then on is pretty straightforward if I want to creat a NTSC DVD, but I was wondering if I can do anything to make it play correctly on a PAL DVD?
I have tried changing the frame rate and size/ratio in FCP to that of PAL before output - jerky result.
I have exported as a full res QT movie using the current project settings in FCP, but then can't use a NTSC file in a PAL DVDSP project
I then exported as a full res QT movie using project settings in FCP, created a new iDVD project in PAL, added my QT export, converted it in the program (why can't DVDSP do this??) and burned it. But when played back in a DVD player, the jerkiness is back.
I have discovered a way in Compressor that does an ok job of converting it, but it takes ages to render out even a short piece.
Is there an easier, less time consuming way that gives good results?

    Hi,
First of all, almost all PAL DVD players have no problem playing NTSC DVD's so staying in NTSC would probably be ok.
Are you converting your media before importing into FCP, I don't know the format of the media your camera shoots but It won't be a format that works very well in FCP, you'll have problems.
If you really want to convert to PAL, Compressor will do that and someone familiar with the workflow may chip in. Good Luck.

  • Importing NTSC/Pal

    Hi,
So I am hoping to import some footage and edit it in FCE from mini dv tapes but they were bought and recorded on with cameras in Canada. They are HDV. I have a Pal Sony Handycam HDR-HC1E which is HDV too. When I try to watch the tapes in the camera there is just a blue screen except for when I fast forward or rewind at which point the image plays.
I assume this is because I am trying to play ntsc dv tapes in a pal camera.
I tried to import into a FCE project that was set to NTSC and the image momentarily showed on the handycam screen but then FCE came up "there is no video"
Is there anything I can do to get around this or is the only way to import them on an ntsc camera and then convert to pal once it is a FCE project?
    thanks!

    Hi
    Yes
NTSC - tapes require an NTSC Camera
Althoug my TRV-900e can playback NTSC - nothing is delivered via FireWire
And even more strange is that it can play back via analog out to TV - but
    nothing recorded on VHS-VCR
    And step 2 - connecting an A/D-box - Didn't help either/any settings.
Most probably this is due to frame-rate PAL 25fps and NTSC 29.97
No way around as I see it.
AND When You got it into Your Mac
FCE/P - can not do a good conversion to PAL or NTSC
    I use JES_Deinterlacer to do this - then re-import into a FCE/P project set to Final-standard
    so that all material matches.

  • Importing a NTSC iMovie to a PAL iDVD Project

For some reason my iMovie is in NTSC format even though I am in the Uk and operate PAL. If I import to iDVD and burn in PAL is that going to work? And also, how do I change an iMovie project from NTSC to PAL. It is supposed to do it automatically based on what the DV camera is but mine clearly did not do this?

there are 3 reasons, why iM sets a specific video
    standard:
    * you have set in iM's prefs to 30
frames-per-second.. which is a little cryptic for
    "NTSC"; PAL = 25fps...
    * you've imported from a NTSCcamcoder... iM sets
automatically the standard, because it can handle
    both...
    * you've imported as clip_01 some downloaded file
which is NTSC... same as with camcorder-imports...
same with iDVD, you can set the video standard
manually ... or let the first file set it...
I wouldn't "switch" within the workflow... NTSC dvds
are mostly playbacked on European DVDstandalones&TVs
(some older lose audio and/or color...)
The Quicktime engine has a NTSC<<>>PAL converter
included, but my experiences with conversion (I did
just NTSC footage to a PAL project) was, that the
    free JES
Deinterlacer does a better job... workflow:
finish editing in iM/Export as QT Full Quality/Import
to JESD/convert/Import new, converted file into iDVD
    (which handles both standards too)...
and in case, your version of iM has some "hickup",
trash the imovie.plist... that will "reset" the
    app....
    helpful?
I was having lots of problems with the conversion of an Imovie6 NTSC to Pal and followed all the instructions in Imovie to convert to QT etc. finally got a girl at Apple and she moved one over to IDVD after changing the Preferences and and the Info to Pal and she actually burned a disc while I was on the line, just ignore the notice that comes up to that you are burning a Ntsc to a Pal disc and continue and it shows up on the later as a Pal disc. I think that was how I did them under IDVD 4 and 5.

  • Importing Sony PC-10 Video Through FW - Not Recognized

Has anyone been able to import Sony PC-10 to FCP 6 (Studio)? Or is there a work-around? I was not able to get all my footage onto drives before - and now it seems to be a problem.
    Thank for the help.

    HI,
did get FCP 6 to recognize the video on one of my computers in Log and Transfer
I think you mean log and capture.
If you have your camera connected and working, go to easy set up and select Format/NTSC and use DVNTSC (anamorphic if required) and you should be good to go.
best audio connections (out of the camera is a mini-plug).
The audio will be captured with the video through firewire.
    Good Luck,

  • Everything pre-set to PAL, camera is PAL but sequence is NTSC. How did that

    Hello,
I have a PAL camera (Panasonic HDC-SD100) and FCE is set up to run PAL. Going through my sequence settings after the edit I find that the sequence is set to NTSC. How on earth did that happen and what should I do now? The video is already edited.
    Thanks in advance.

Send the clip and sequence settings so we can see if there is something wrong.
Also, exactly how are you exporting and what for (DVD, web etc.)?
You are obviously doing something wrong but unless you give us full details of what you are doing there is no way we can begin to guess what it might be.
Bleeping audio is usually a sign that it is an incompatible format that will need rendering . . . . obviously not captured from the camera.

  • How to capture a dv shot on an NTSC camcorder,  now played thru a PAL cam?

I borrowed a dv tape shot by someone else on their camcorder and am trying to capture the content in iMovie 6 by playing it through my videocam. Specifically, the tape was shot on a new Sony dv camcorder in NTSC format, but now running thru my older Sony dv handycam that I purchased in Europe and which is a PAL machine.
When I attempt to capture in iMovie 6 just a few frames are captured and then everything stops. I've set the menu on my camera to output in NTSC format but no luck.
I know it's not an iMovie problem because tapes I've shot on my own PAL camcorder are captured perfectly.
    Any suggestions for a workaround?
    Many thanks,
    Roger

Sorry, ...... borrow a NTSC cam.
Your cam is a PAL. Although, it has a NTSC output feature, in its guts it still remains a PAL cam. So, if you stick a NTSC filmed tape in it, it will play in black & white. No color, because it cannot read NTSC color coding. There is no workaround this. Your cam can export to NTSC, but cannot read from NTSC as almost none of PAL cams can. Except of universals, those have PAL/NTSC in/out. Expensive and uncommon.
I had the same problem while I was in Europe.
Borrow a different cam. All I can tell you.

  • Creating a video DVD for PAL TV using video from an NTSC Camcorder

    Hey Guys,
I'll be owning an AVCHD NTSC camcorder (Canon HF S10) and need to know whether Final Cut Express includes the functionality of importing the video from the camcorder and exporting it to a DVD for a PAL TV system.
    Will you share your experience?
    Many thanks!
    -Max

I'd suggest you do a search of the forum. This has been discussed often. Yes, FCE supports AVCHD. Most PAL DVD player will play back NTSC.

  • Pal/NTSC video to tv quest

    Hello,
If I add some PAL formatted videos to my Zen Vision: M can I then play them on a TV by using the video hook-up cables? I know that US tvs use NTSC and cannot play Pal, but I am hoping that by first adding them to my Vision I can get the same quality of sound/video. I am about to buy the av cables from Creative, but if I can only watch PAL videos on my Vision (and not through my TV) then I may not bother gtting the cables.

Computers don't care whether it is PAL or NTSC so I'd upload it in whatever format it originally was. Besides, you may want to tweak the resolution and frame rate to get a smaller size clip anyway.
But if the target audience is going to view it on a TV (after burning it to a video-DVD, for example), then it might be a good idea to convert it to the standard they use.

  • Can't Play Video Through To Camera iMovie Crashes

I was working with iMovie 3 the other day and viewing the project on my TV using my trusty old Canopus ADVC 100 with the "Play Video Through To Camera" option checked in Preferences. Today I went to preview a new project and iMovie crashes everytime it finishes loading all of the clips with the play through option checked. The only way to open the project is to turn off the ADVC and uncheck the play-though option and re-save. It will load whether the ADVC is on or off as long as the play through option is not checked.
    What could have changed?

    Hi David
This is a guessing question - so many ways things can go wrong.
May be You find some help in my list:
    Mac:
    - hardware
◊ Slow hard disk (fragmented: repair permissions, repair hard disk, use a faster hard disk)
◊ I wonder how full your Mac's hard disc is. (David Babsky) A near full hard disk prevents Import/Capture. 10% free is recommended + space for Import/Capture + work space (about 4 to
5 times the amount needed for Capture) eg on a 200Gb hard disk You need 20Gb + (one hour tape)
    13Gb + 50Gb = about 80 to 90Gb free space.
◊ Disconnect all other ext devices (FW and USB) exept Camera (and keyboard + mouse) and try again
    ◊ Reset PRAM
    ◊ Bad RAM-chips
◊ disconnect Mac from powerline (not just switch off, really plug out) for a few minutes to reset FW ports
    - software
◊ File-Vault is on - turn it off
◊ Something is occupying the CPU/System, like other programs, Internet etc.
◊ Do You have desktop pictures or screen or energy-savers active? Try turning them off.
◊ Updating - OS has to be a clean install - not an update eg from X.3.x to X.4.x (no good) OS X.4.0-5 needs a clean install to work (I use X.3.9)
◊ Updating QT and/or other updates (to 7 needs v6 to be cleaned out first) QT v.7.0.0-4 needs a clean install to work (I use 6.5.2)
◊ Have you tried the crazy fix: Open GarageBand, play a few notes, close it and reopen iMovie. The camera should import fine now. Sue/SDillini
◊ Running iDVD at the same time as iMovie can cause problems: (Lennart Thelander)
◊ If You also have installed FinalCut Express/pro there are possibly problems with this
    iMovie:
◊ remove bookmarks in iMovie project
    ◊ Trash: com.apple.iMovie.plist and com.apple.iMovie3.plist : files (Xinram)
    Connection:
◊ don’t Daisy chain Camcorder <--> external hard disk <--> Mac
◊ FW-wire cable, is it OK?
    ◊ USB/USB2 is NO GO !
◊ Cheque FW connection at Camera end. OK? (Adam Smith1)
◊ Cheque FW connection at Mac end. OK?
    Camera:
◊ The Camera is set to VTR ? (not as when You ”film” record with it)
◊ You may be need to go to the Camera menu and select digital out.
◊ defective camera TRY IT ON ANOTHER MAC ! (if the A/D chip in the camera is harmed then it will say in iMovie that the camera is connected and You can forward resp. backward the tape but there will be no picture or sound just the blue screen).
◊ connect camera to power-line, not battery-only....(Karsten Schlüter)
◊ Canons don't allow daisychaining on firewire, make it "only device" on port (Karsten Schlüter)
◊ Cheque the menu on Your Camera so that it communicates with the FW digitally to Your Mac
◊ Date and Time is correct on Your Camera ?
    Tape:
◊ Drop outs on the miniDV-tape - make a camera to camera copy on a tape which You have previous recorded with a time code (dummy recording).
◊ Break in the time-code on the miniDV tape (make a camera to camera copy on a tape which is pre-recorded with nothing/anything so that the tape has a time-code from beginning to the end)
◊ If You recorded in LP-mode (90 min on a standard 60 min tape with 12-bit sound). Try to change in iMovie pref. to import but not as individual clips. If this doesn’t work You have to make a Camera to Camera copy with the receiving Camera set to SP-mode and 16-bit sound.
    More:
    ◊ follow advises here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=43000
◊ follow Grandmaster Dan's advice for Sony cameras here: http://www.danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/usage/5020.shtml
    NEWS: Jerry Harris writes:
I know that in a lot of the new Sony HD cameras, iMovie requires that you turn iLink Conv off. I would look for a similar setting for your camera. This setting has to do with shooting a movie in one format, and using the camera to import as a different format. For instance, if you shoot HD footage and have iLink conv on - the camera will send DV to the computer etc...
So, case in point: look for a setting on your camera that has to do with the video format and see if that helps.
