Importing off of older camera

Hi,
I just got a macbook pro and fce. I use mac os x 10.6. My camera is a sony handycam dcr-hc26. It wont let me install it for some reason and nothing happens when i plug it into my mac. I there is any way possible to get the footage off of my camera to my mac, please tell me!
Thanks

There's nothing to install. Your camcorder is a miniDV camcorder. Plug it into your Mac with a FireWire cable, turn it on, put it in playback mode, and use iMovie or FCE to capture video from it.
Nothing happens just because you plug it into your Mac. It's not a disk drive, so it won't show up as an icon on your desktop. iMovie and FCE will find it, however. This is normal.

  • Can't import Video from Video Camera

I gave my father in law my old iMac (G4 Flat Panel running OSX 10.3.9 and running iMovie 3.0.3) - and we can't seem to import video from his digital video camera.
The camera is much newer than the iMac - it is a JVC G2-MG330HU digital video camera.
When the camera is plugged in (via USB) to the iMac, the drive on the camera shows up in Finder, but not inside the iMovie program.
If you try to import from iMovie, the camera (and therefore the video clip files on the camera) can not been seen.
    Any hints?
    Thank you.

    Hi there Jermaster
iMovie 3 does not support the camera you have. iM is a Digital Video (DV) editor. Cameras that record to mini DV tape is what is required. IM 3 does not support USB either. You need Firewire. The camera you have is a flash based Hard Drive camera. To get the video off this camera you'll need iM08 or 09.
But it doesn't appear that the computer you have will support either of these versions.
    See below ...
    iLife ’09 System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor

  • Iphoto 11 import problem.  My camera is importing photos as 4x4.  I see a single image in the preview window, but the import is 4x4.  I just imported from a different camera and that one was OK.  I can't find any setting to change to fix this problem

I am having a new problem in IPhoto'11.  An older camera is importing photos as 4x4 (16 copies to a single image).  In the preview pane the photos are fine (single copy per image).  I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting but the problem repeats.  Earlier I had a successful import from a different camera.
I can't find any settings to change this. Help!

Sorry but I do not understand your question
As to importing iPhoto simply copies the photos to the iPhoto llibrary - no changes of any sort are made

  • Import 16x9 from 4x3 camera MiniDV

I have footage shot in 16x9 on a Canon camera. I want to import with an older Sony camera that is 4x3. Will this work?
Reason: Canon firewire port stopped working and causes any Mac it's connected to to freeze/crash.

How does it look on the Sony camera? It really would help to know what the camera model is. Make sure you you use a DV NTSC anamorphic preset.

  • IPhoto won't import jpeg photos from camera

I've been using the same method to import photos from my camera to iPhoto '09 with no problem ever since we got this computer. All of the sudden, the photos will not import and the error message says the file format is unreadable. All photos have the name.jpg format.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Julie.
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
Home > Library > Caches (I remove the whole folder. It will be re-generated upon restart.)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There will may be more than one. Remove them all.)
If the issue persists these jpeg files may be damaged. Try importing them using Image Capture found in Macintosh HD > Applications.
If Image Capture can import them you can then try to add them to iPhoto.
If you still get the same error message try opening the files with Preview by double-clicking on them. You can then go to File > Save As > Format > TIFF and add those files to iPhoto.
Consider using these best practice tips to avoid or minimize the impact of issues in the future:
_Ensure your camera has a full charge on the battery before you import (Or run off of AC if possible).
_Ensure the date and time on the camera are correct before importing.
_If you are using a media card reader and are getting regular failures, try using a different reader or the camera itself (The same is true about importing directly from the camera. Try a reader instead.)
_Plug the camera directly into the computer with a solid connection, no loose cables. Don't use a hub.
_Reformat the camera's media card using the camera itself between uses.
_Alternate between multiple media cards during photo shoots (trips, etc) so that if one card goes bad (they are just little bits of plastic after all) you don't lose the entire shoot.
    Hope that helps.

  • Cables for older camera

Hey, my dad has an older camera, I'll says 6 to 7 years old maybe. Well Im trying to import footage onto my macbook from it, problem is that the cam does not have a firewire nor a USB port, just one A/V hole. Is there such a cable that goes A/V to usb or firewire so that i can important some footage.

if you tell us maker & model of camera, we can do some research for you...
some manufacturers call it firewire, iLink, dv-out, IEEE1394 ...
if it is a miniDV camcorder, I highly doubt, it has NO such output ..
if it is no miniDV/D8, it has very little use with FCE ...

  • Premiere CS6 Hangs when Importing Video from P2 Camera

I just bought Premiere CS6.  I am a Final Cut Pro refugee, running Mac OS Snow Leopard.
So far (day 1) I am having three serious problems, one major, one less so, and one intermediary.
First, when I try to import video off my P2 camera using the Media Browser, Premiere hangs.  When I force quit, a dialog box briefly pops up saying that a "serious error" has occured.  If I can't load my video into Premiere, this is a serious problem.
    Is this a known issue?
Second, when I view the contents of my P2 card in the media browser, the order of the clips is totally jumbled.
If I can get the media browser import function to work, is there a way to view the clips in the order in which they were shot?
Third, I tried to "ingest" my clips through Prelude, which just copied the whole arcane folder structure of the P2 card onto my local hard disk.  I could do this in the Mac OS Desktop and I really don't see the point of Prelude.  I would rather not navigate the arcane P2 folder structure, and I need something that will take my video out of Panasonic's .mxf wrapper file.
I've noticed that I can drag the .mxf files directly into Premiere, but is there a way to import my video that will also extract the files from the .mxf wrapper, so that I can also open the files in other software?
I downloaded the Premiere CS6 updater but it didn't help.
Together, these issues represent serious defects that cripple my ability to use this software.

Im have the exact same issue with the importing or P2 files and premere crashing/ hagingup, i on the other hand have been using adobe for over 4 years and never had this issue, i still have CS5 on comp and there are no problems there, kinda silly i cant use CS6 for work....
so what did you exactly do to fix issue??
also i know exactly what porblem u are running into with the aspect ratio problems, been an issue for as long as i have been working with adobe premere and HVX, and i can help u there, simply dont use DVCproHD sequence if you are going to DVD just do a DV widscreen sequence and all the ratio problems will fix when u go to encore. or use DVCproHD sequence but drop the entire sequence you worked on into a DV widscreen sequence or an HDV sequence and resize acordingly (make lager or smaler so fits properly in 16/9) the problem is some of the P2 cameras are not a true 16/9 there like 15/9 or somthing, its odd, anyway thats what i do, it doesnt really ad much time and it workes
Dear adobe plp if you read this, then you know about problem importing, whatever he did dosnt seem like you should have to do that... any questions feel free to contact me.

  • I cannot import photos from my camera card into light room 5 or photoshop

I cannot import photos from my camera card into light room 5 or photoshop

There is no "into". LR and PS just reference your photos on the hard drive.
When you import your photos "into" the LR catalog, LR can copy the images off your memory cards to the hard drive if you have not already copied them, but the photos are referenced by the LR catalog by the path and filename for the files.
If you are having problems getting the images off the cards, what steps are you using and what error messages are you getting?

  • HT2498 How do I import photos from my camera without being forced to use any silly mac software?

I haev a PC as well as a new Mac Mini.
It has always bugged me that Mac seems to force me to use a silly image managment software (like iphoto) to import photos from my camera when i plug it in.
On my PC (windows 7) it simply recognizes it as a "removable storage device" and i can access the flash memory as if it was a hard drive and simply drag my photos to a folder on my computer. (this same technique works with my iphone photos)
However on my Mac it seems there is no way to open up the flash memory and just drag photos off and manually import and manage my photos. I do not like all of the complicated software to complete a simple task like this.
Am i missing something? if so please fill me in. thanks!

It does not force you to do that.
Open iPhoto, go to iPhoto / Preferences and change the setting so no application opens when the camera is connected.
Whether you change the setting or not, the camera does indeed appear as a "removable storage device". At least mine does:
And you can double click the camera icon and navigate the contents. The contents are shown exactly as they would be on any "storage device":
Thus you have the option in iPhoto preferences to let it do it for you, or do it yourself if that is your choice.

  • How do you get photos off a digital camera and videos off a camcorder onto the iPad air?

How do you get photos off a digital camera and videos off a camcorder onto the iPad air?

You can use the camera connection kit.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD822ZM/A/lightning-to-sd-card-camera-reader?f node=3a
If your camera has an SD card
or the lightening to USB for your videos
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD821ZM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter?fnod e=3a
(might also work for your camera)
The photo part is rather self-explanatory. as long as your photos are in the right format and with the right naming convention they should import right over. The video may be a bit more tricky. So you may want to do some more research and make sure your camera records a format the iPad will import and whether or not you need an app such as iMovie

If you are having the same problem, i.e. a disk permission problem, open your favorite search engine and search on, "change disk permissions", and I think you'll find plenty of information on how to fix the problem. This is a Lightroom forum. Your problem is with your operating system. There is no sense in rewriting instructions that are already available if you do a simple search.

  • IPhoto suddenly doesn't seem to recognize my camera, and essentially freezes. The only thing that makes sense is that another person in my house imported using a different camera and that changed things somehow. Ideas?

    Hi There!
The camera is a Panasonic Lumix. I don't have a USB card reader. I did try and different port although not a different cable.
I did remember one additional thing. I plugged my camera in at work to a PC. It was after that, when I came home, that the iPhoto wasn't working when I connected my camera to our iMac/iPhoto at home. I think this may have caused the problem.
    Cheers!

    What Tom said.
Or you may be able to import using a different program - try with Quicktime Player, "New Movie Recording". If the camera appears as an option, it should work.
