Importing old library, duplicates songs

Hi. I had to re-new my hard drive and re-install i-Tunes. When I import my old library (from the old drive) i-Tunes is duplicating all the songs i.e one song appears twice. When I delete the whole library and try the process again, the same song then appear three times! I have checked all my preferences and disabled 'copy songs to i-tunes folder. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,
Graeme

Hi,
I am having the same problem! I have 2 of every song. Did you figure out how to remove the copies without going through thousands of songs?

  • Import old Library to the last version of Apperture

    Hello
I have a trouble about import old library. I have one done in a version 3.0... and I would like to import it to the Aperture last version. I obtain only an error message that I have to update the library before to import. How can I do to be able to import it without to reinstall an old version in my actual Mac.
    Thanks for your help
    Philippe

What is the message like, that you see? Do you see the message below? That is not an error message, just an information that your library is outdated.
If it is this message, then press the "quit" button and do first a "rebuild library", to ensure that your Aperture library does not have any inconsistencies that might cause problems.
Hold down the "⌥⌘"-key combination (press firmly) and double click the Aperture Library to launch Aperture into the "First Aid" mode. Select "Rebuild Database" from the "First Aid" panel.
Now Aperture should upgrade and rebuild the Library in one go - that may take a while for a large Library - do not get impatient and force quit Aperture, unless you do not see any progress at all for hours.
If you see a different message, and Aperture crashes or does not launch at all, please explain what you see exactly and post the full error message.

  • Imported old library but lost rating of music

    Hi,
I have succesfully imported my old library to my new computer only the music has lost the rating I gave earlier? How to fix that?
    Thanks Sebastiaan

I have exactly the same problem - importing my music library from a G4 PowerBook to my new MacBook, all my custom playlists and music categories are there, but no ratings. This is especially frustrating with smart playlists like "5* Electronica" - if there are no stars, there's no music in that playlist. Please Help! I have 60 gigs of music I don't want to re-rate!

  • Music library duplicate songs

Anyone know why ios5 duplicates ALL my songs like 2-3 times in the music library> I have itouch 4g white

I'm curious if you had edited any of your songs (i.e. Genre, etc.)  I have noticed that I have duplicates songs but it's only for songs that I changed something on.  For example, I changed a song from Rock to Hard Rock and on my device I see it twice.  When I click to expand the iPhone in iTunes, I look at Music and see the song twice - once for Rock and once for Hard Rock.  But when I look at my Library in iTunes, I only see the song once.
I'm not sure why it's doing this, but only for songs I've bought since I upgraded.  I bought these songs via iTunes on my PC, not from the device.

  • Cannot import old library into iPhoto '11

When trying to import a backup of my iPhoto '08 Library into iPhoto '11 it says the file is unreadable. Any suggestions?

you open iPhoto libraries - depress the option key and launch iPhoto and use the select library to point to the old library you want to upgrade (you will no longer be able to use it with iPhoto '08) and iPhoto '11 will open and convert it
If iPhoto '11 will not see it then it is corrupt - try iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  and see if it will rebuild it so it will work

  • How to import old library in iPhoto

I had and oler version of iPhoto.  Now when i try to open my old library it own't open form the newere version.

    What happens when you try?
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.

  • I Tunes - New Account - Import Administrator Library and Songs

    Hi,
I have just created an account for my kids (with parental control) and I would like to share my existing Itunes library and songs. Could I have an idea on a procedure to do that as for now they have an empty Itunes. I am running on Leopard.

The following is what I did. I'm not saying it's the only way or the best way but it works fine for me and my family.
Under my user login I went to my "Public" folder and created a new folder called "Shared". Use File > Get info and set the permissions for this new "Shared" folder. Make the Group "staff" and make "Access" Read & Write. You can give "others" Read & Write access too. I don't know if that is important or not.
Next, find your iTunes Music folder. It should be in your Music folder under your user name. Move the iTunes Music folder into the new "Shared" folder. Make the permissions on the iTunes Music folder the same as the "Shared" folder.
Open iTunes under your user login, go to iTunes, Preferences, Advanced. Show iTunes where the music folder lives by clicking on "Change" and navigating to the new location within "Shared". We're almost done.
Now login to your other user's accounts. Open their iTunes and do the same as above. This will cause everyone's iTunes to use the same master folder. They can access your songs and any songs they add will go there too. Do this for every user.
Also, check off the two options for "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library.
I believe that will do it for you.

  • How - importing old library?

When i started Aperture i created a new library. After i was convinced that i will be using it i imported my images as a new library. Aperture marked my first images seperately as "Old Library". I exported these images to my desktop and i can see them there. They are in files called "Unititled Project 11.approject".
I have tried everything, but Aperture does not see these images on my desktop and will not allow me to import them. How do i get these images back into my main (new) library?
    Thanks!

I don't quite understand how you generated the .approject files, but if "import project" does not let you import that you could try opening up your Aperture library (right click on library in Finder, select "show package contents") and then dragging the .approject file in there directly - I sugeest a copy. Then restart Aperture and it should realize there's a new project in there.

  • Importing old library using external hard drive

    Hi There,
My old PC (XP) died. I removed the old HD and stuck it in an external Hard Drive case.
How do I re-import my old iTunes library (with star ratings etc) onto my new PC (Vista)?
    Thanks

Assuming that you have installed iTunes on you old PC and not yet added any music.
With iTunes closed, drag the iTunes folder out of music to the desktop.
Copy the old iTunes folder form the external drive into Music so that it replaces the iTunes folder you dragged out.
Ensure that your account has ownership and full control of the itunes folder.

You should have your old library when you next open iTunes.
If you did have some music files in the folder you dragged out, you will have to add them back to your library.

  • Importing old library to new Macbook

I recently purchased a new Macbook (Black) and I'm trying to import the music library to my new iTunes. The problem I'm having is that I my old iBook had such a small hard drive that I backed up my library by copying the music files (iTunes Library) to an external hard drive then deleted the files off of my existing hard drive. I just want to be able to import the info of my iPod and then be able upload more on my new computer. Am I screwed and need to upload all of my music again? Please tell me somebody has ran into this problem. Thank you.

  • How can I import old library to new iPhoto on new Mac

I bought a new macbook pro and need to move my library over but already have some pics in the new library.  What is the best way to add the old 20GB library to my new iPhoto?

    To migrate a Library:
Link the two Macs together even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
However you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
The only way to merge the two libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
If you've not done much with the photos already on the new machine then simply export them from that iPhoto, copy the main library over and then import them to that library

  • IMovie 10 can´t import old library

    Hi,
my iMovie crashed, the app didn´t open anymore.
So I uninstalled it and got the App back from the App Store. Then, for an unknown reason, I opened iMovie and it looked like it would work.
I thought I could use Time Machine to get back all my movies and so I used it.
Now, when I´m asked which iMovie-Library I want to import and I select the only one I have I´m getting the following error-message: (translated with google):
"The operation could not be completed. One or more projects or events have been created with a newer version of iMovie. These projects and events are ignored."
After that iMovie shuts down. Now I know that I should have done it first with Time Machine. But it´s too late...
I can select "New" but then I have no possibility to get my movies and projects back...
Does anybody here know how to fix the problem?
    Thanks,
    Melanie

    I'm a bit confused -
You redownload iMovie 10.0.3 from the App store and then later tried recovering 10.0.2 from Time Machine but both give the same error message - is that correct?
The message doesn't make sense when you are using iMovie 10.0.3 since its the latest version.
Your library was last updated under 10.0.3 but you have now replaced it with a Time Machine backup which was created under 10.0.2 - correct?
What happens if you try to launch iMovie by double-clicking on your library - same error message?
iMovie 10.0.3 must work with a library created with iMovie 10.0.2 otherwise no-one would have been able to open any library after updating to 10.0.3.   The other way round might not work - though I'd be surprised - the changes in iMovie were quite minor.
Have tried deleting the iMovie preference file and rebooting?
    Geoff.

  • Importing OLD library on external drive to NEW iMAC

I just got an iMAC with a 750 gb hard drive. Enough to put my whole library (about 95 gb) on the new hard drive.
What's the best way to do it? Can I open iTUNEs, find the library and pick import?
I want to make sure I have all my playlists and album cover art.
    Thanks.

Is the library fully self contained on the external drive (music files and database files there)? If so you can open it directly on the external as so...

  • 2 Qs: a: Can't see library in Pictures; b:How to import an old library

I have a couple of problems with iPhoto.
    *1. Invisible Library*
For some reason my library doesn't appear in the Finder when I go to the Pictures folder, however, I can see photos in my library when I open iPhoto.
I've tried a spotlight search for iPhoto library but nothing appears.
I have also tried quitting iPhoto and restarting holding the option key down. At the choice menu I cannot see any iPhoto library in the Pictures folder (or elsewhere).
Is there some way I can make this invisible folder visible?
*2. Import old library from external hard drive*
I have a library stored on an external hard drive with several years worth of photos on it. I would like to import the photos but when I try, iPhoto imports everything including thumbnails, modified photos, originals etc. I end up with thousands of duplicate photos. How can I import only the original photos and/or photos that have been modified from this library?
    Thanks for your help
    Peter

    Peter:
1 - in the library Control click on a thumbnail and select "Show File" in the contextual menu. When you get to the file in the Finder window you can use the Path button at the top of the Finder window to see where the library is located.
It might be in a hidden folder for some reason. Go to the Finder->Go->Go to folder... menu and enter "/volumes" and hit return. If the library is there move it to the desktop and then into the Pictures folder. That will keep the events, albums, keywords, etc. intact for both libraries.
2 - your best bet is to use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to merge the external library into the one on your boot drive.
Are you running iPhoto 7 (08)? In iPhoto 7 when you import another library it ignores any file in thj folder Data folder, i.e. the thumbnails. So all you get are the originals and the modified files.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
