Importing old Movie from imovie in 08

I can't use the share menu in 08 because it's dimmed. I imported an old imovie. I there's nothing in the project library, but the event library has all the clips. I can't drag them anywhere either. Having a hard time getting started with this.
Thanks
Tom

I really recommend you [watch a few of these video tutorials|http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie], until you get the hang of it.
For starter, you will need to create a Project. Then you can drag clips into it.

  • IMovie doesn't import all movies from iPhoto - at least one solution

I noticed that iMovie 08 imported my movies from iPhoto, but strangely not all of them. A quick search of the support forums indicated many others were having the same issue.
After comparing file attributes of movies that were importing successfully into iMovie versus movies that didn't show up, I found that a rogue character ("&") was preventing iMovie from importing the file properly.
Renaming the title in iPhoto does not resolve the issue, since the file name (in Finder) remains the same. However, if I make a copy of that file outside of the iPhoto Library, rename it in Finder, then re-import it back into iPhoto, then iMovie will see it. I didn't rename the movie file inside of the iPhoto Library for fear of corrupting the library structure.
I found this to work at least with my .avi files. I still have the same issue as everyone else with iMovie not importing .mpg files that play properly in iPhoto.

Good thinking! The only way to change the filename in iPhoto is to export the movie file, import it back in, copy over comments, keywords from the old to the new movie, and then delete the old movie.

  • How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done?

How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either.  It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected.  VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC.  Is that the same?  Thank you for your time and response.

  • How to import movies from iMovies to memory card

How to import movies from imovies to a memory card.

Well, if you mean transfer movies from the iMovie events folder, go to that folder as in Finder-movies-imovie events, and drag a copy to your card.
Or, you could finish making the movie, and drag the .mov file from your desktop or wherever you have it.

  • I imported a movie from PhotoBooth to IMovie. I want to put the movie on my blog. To do that I have to select Share Media Browser, but it is not highlighted. What should I do?

I imported a movie from PhotoBooth to IMovie. I want to put the movie on my blog. To do that I have to select Share >Media Browser, but it is not highlighted in IMovie. What should I do?

Is the clip only in your Event Library in iMovie?
You need to create a Project (File > New Project).
Then move the clip into the project, do any edits and you should be able to Share your Project to Media Browser.

  • Cannot import Finalize movie into iMovie

I have a Sony DCR-DVD103 and when I go to File>Import Movies I do see my Finalized DVD, but all the files including the Import button are grayed out. How can I import the Finalized movie into iMovie?
Upon connecting the Video Camera to my MacBook Pro, DVD Player launches. I quit DVD Player and go to iMovie>Import Movies, but never see how to import the movie into iMovie.

I have a Sony DCR-DVD103 and when I go to File>Import Movies I do see my Finalized DVD, but all the files including the Import button are grayed out. How can I import the Finalized movie into iMovie?
The "Import Movies..." option is for importing "edit" compatible files from a hard drive into iMovie '08. If the source files are not already "edit" compatible, iMovie '08 will not let you import them. Instead, try the ""Import from Camera..." option. If iMovie '08 properly recognizes you DVD camcorder, it will import your MPEG2/AAC content by converting all MPEG-2 "P" and "B" frames to "I" frames (which are editable), convert the AC3 audio to AIFF, and place both in an MOV file container with start and/or end time offsets to minimize drift between audio and video. The resulting file can then be edited in iMovie '08.
If the camcorder is not recognized by iMovie '08, then you will probably have to import the MPEG2/AC3 files to you hard drive and manually convert them to an edit compatible compression format manually using an MPEG-based, third-party conversion application like iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free but requires $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component), FFmpegX, (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), MPEG2 Works (pay-ware), or similar application.

I have a short homemade film burnt onto a DVD, I now want to import the movie into IMOVIE on my MacBook Pro so that I can edit it, how would I go about doing this? Welcoming any guidance.  Thanks in advance.

    1. Insert your DVD.
    2. Open Disk Utilities (Application> Utilities> Disk Utilities). Highlight your DVD and press "New Image" on the upper toolbar.
    3. Choose the location you would like to save your DVD from the drop down menu, "Desktop" is usually the best choice. Then click Save.
    4. When finished, your DVD icon will appear on the desktop with the .dmg extension.
    5. With iMovie open, double-click the .dmg  file you created to mount it. The iMovie import window will then appear asking you to choose. Click Import All and wait for the Import to complete.

  • How to Import AVCHD Lite From iMoves to Aperture

I am very new at this, but I have found that I can import my AVCHD Lite movies from my Panasonic camera into iMoves with no problem. Just plug in the camera card in the card reader and off we go. This is great, now I would like to move the AVCHD Lite movies from iMove to Aperture, please tell me in very simple terms how I can do this or if it is impossible

You can't import AVCHD to Aperture.
Think of it this way: Video files are huge and so folks who work with Video talk of Production Formats and Deliver Formats. So, they shoot in Production formats because they contain the most data, are less compressed and survive the editing process with minimal quality loss. They then export the finished product to Delivery formats. These are heavily compressed and not suited for further editing. But the smaller file size is ideal for delivering to the viewer.
AVCHD is a Production Format (not a pro-level one, obviously) and is designed for processing and exporting to a smaller sized deliver format. That's what Movie is for.
It's broadly analogous to shooting Raw and processing into a Jpeg.

  • Importing long movies from iPhone 4S

I am trying to import long movies from the iPhone to iMovie.  I am able to use image capture to transfer the movie from the iPhone, but then I can't import it into iMovie.  I set iMovie to import the file, and it says that it is doing so and that it is generating thumbnails, but then when it finishes nothing shows up in iMovie.  I have made sure that I have ample room in my hard drive, which I was told at the Genius Bar could be affecting iMovie's ability to work with the movie, so that's not the problem.  Ultimately, I'm looking to be able to transfer the movie to iDVD so I can burn a DVD.
I've tried importing directly into iMovie and iPhoto.  I get the same non-result in iMovie and an error message in iPhoto.
I'm using iMovie '11 version 9.0.4 (1634), on Mac OS X, Version 10.7.3 on a MacBook Air.  The movie is about 65 minutes long.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what was the solution?  I admit to being very surprised at the difficulty of doing an Apple-Apple transfer.  Thanks.

What might be happening is you might need to Optimize the Video to Full Size. Use the File Menu > Optimize > Full Size for each of the video clips in your iPhoto Videos folder inside of the iMovie Events Library. That should trigger iMovie to recognize the original size/resolution of the video clips and then enable the HD size output in the iMovie Share Menu.

  • HT1338 I would like to burn a home movie from imovie. How may I do this?

I would like to burn a home movie from imovie. How may I do this? I have imported from a viedo camera  to imovie and cannot burn it to a blank dvd! ***?

    Buy iDVD.
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/idvd.html
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.  (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)

  • Im trying to bring a movie from imovie to a pc using a flash drive, but the movie file (.mov) will not play on a pc

Im trying to bring a movie from imovie to a pc using a flash drive, but the movie file (.mov) will not play on a pc. help!

I would like to offer you some additional hair, but I've pulled mine out as well.  I have created a slideshow of my daughter's new house (a very nice place indeed) as a house-warming gift, took all the pix myself with a throw-away camera made into CD's, imported all of the photos, cropped and enhanced with Iaza online free photo editor, re-saved the new ones to a folder, imported the selected ones into iPhoto, had the best thematic photo printed in 8x10 format, bought the black DVD's, made the MPEG-4 movie as well as the suggested exportable to iPhone, created a folder with the slides, crafted a nice playlist in iTunes, merged it all in iPhoto, but cannot successfuly export it into iDVD. The technical documentation and writing for some of this stuff is sloppy and sometimes unintelligible. The instructional videos are incomplete. The One-on-One fellow was most helpful the other day and said Apple doesn't really have or support an functional DVD creation tool and suggested I choose one or another "app" at the "app store", but the reviews for the two major ones are shallow in depth and I haven't yet sprunf for the $20-$40 download so I can re-experience the difficult learning curve. The Macintoshs I once used were incredibly intuitive; the iMac requires some study. The slideshow I have is imperfect becauae it keeps reverting to custom slide-specific choices I have decided (several times) that I do not want, but it keeps slipping back into "Ken Burns" mode and some of the photos don't work in that mode because of their format. But I will settle for less-than-perfect if I can figure out the best way to export the MPEG-4 I have created into a Maxell DVD-R some time before my daughter's toddlers aged 4 and 2 get into kindergarten.

iMovie9: How to stop an old movie from showing on the upper left side of screen? I only want to see current project. Go away, old movie... I am making a video from imported images now  visible to right and partially at bottom...), and do not want to see the older video that demands my attention on the upper left, that will not seem to give me a "close this project" option. What obvious thing am I missing here? Thanks, Lena

  • HELP! How to import .mpg movies from a photocamera?

I'm trying to import mpg movies in Imovie, but it doesn't accept this format. I also tried to convert it to a mp4 file, but they are low res and I need high res (tv use).
    Please help me out!
    Thanks!!!

I'm trying to import mpg movies in Imovie, but it doesn't accept this format. I also tried to convert it to a mp4 file, but they are low res and I need high res (tv use).
MPEG Streamclip (free) will convert MPG (multiplexed MPEG-1) files. As to resolution, you can re-scale the files during the conversion process but it merely increases the conversion time without improving quality. iMovie "08 automatically re-scales project files for display/export.
