Importing older windows .mp2   video files into iMovie09

I'm switching from a pc to an imac. my newer video files work fine but i cannot get my the mac to import my older files. Is there an easy way to bring windows .mp2 files into imovie 09? thanks

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
I thought mp2 was audio, assuming this to be so, most conversion software should do the job, why not give mpegstreamclip a go.

  • Importing lots of AVCH video files into CC

    I have tons of AVCHD files that I am thinking of importing into CC.
    1. Are there any downside to importing lots of avchd footage from various cameras in CC? Speed, Performance, etc.?
    2. Is there a way to open footage from LR directly in Premiere for editing?
    3. Would it make sense to consider putting all the videos on a drive separate from my photos or does it not really make a difference?
    Thanks in advance!

    I don’t usually import videos into LR but leave the files in folders relating to each shoot. At present Lightroom has limited editing capabilities for video, in the Library Quick develop module or for trimming to in and out points. It’s a personal choice but I find it simple to use the media browser in Premiere although LR does give a visual thumbnail and duration of a clip.
    If you have a CC subscription you will also have Bridge although may not have installed it.
    I find Bridge excellent for browsing video folders & sub-folders, viewing thumbnails and metadata for video clips. And it’s possible from Bridge to right-click on a thumbnail and choose:
    Open With >> Adobe Premiere Pro

  • How do I import mp4 video files into Premiere Pro Cs4

    For sometime now, I've been finding it practically impossible to import video files into premiere Pro cs4 especially mp4 files which happens to be the commonest to me now, as I currently shoot with a Nokia Lumia 920 phone with Windows phone 8 OS. I have tried severally to convert the videos into various other formats using Xilisoft video converter version 7.7.2 and each time I do this, they would either not play fine in cs4 or not import at all.
    Please what can I do to be able to import these mp4 files into Cs4 or what format or how do I convert them into a format that would play seamlessly for better editing?
    Funny enough, I had once imported video files that were shot with the same phone and they worked well, just wondering why they aren't now.
    Please any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    NKC

    I'm happy to announce to you all that my "mp4 importing" issues has been sorted out. Now I import mp4 shot with the same Windows Phone 8 Device into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Only that for the moment, it doesn't play as fast as with ordinary player.
    But how did I get it to work, you may wonder;
    I simply installed Itunes on the system, I also installed an app called media monkey. I can't say which of the apps did the magic but the next time I tried to import mp4 files into Premiere Pro after these installations, it imported seamlessly.
    Obviously there's a link between the required codecs and the itunes itself.
    You may want to try it and hope it works for you.
    Kindly inform us if it works.
    Thank you all.
    Cheers.

  • Import Canon HF20 video-files into Mac

    Hello!
    I just bought a new camcorder, Canon Vixia HF20. I installed the following cd called; Digital video, solution disk, which I was supposed to use to import the video-files into my mac.
    When I installed it, I plugged in the camcorder with the USB, but the program says "no camera was found".
    It tried to set the USB connection type to computer/printer, but it didn't work...
    Is there somebody who could help me with this please? I think it is ridiculous if a well-known producer as Canon cannot make their programs for macs! It has to be a solution to this?
    Thanks.

    Found out myself.

  • Problem when importing several (2,3 or 4) video files into one project.

    Im creating a project video with several videos running at the same time in one screen.  Sort of like a surveillance with different videos but for some reason one of the video file seems to change from 45 seconds to 3 minutes.  When all of the video files are 45 seconds but after effects seems to put that video file into 3 minutes.  I even deleted the file and imported another video just like it and it works fine until I open the project again.  I am using AE CS4.

    I hope I did this correct.  The first link shows the video length of the videos, this is how it is suppose to be.  Then the second link shows the problem in which one of the videos after (after effects) is closed and then opened again.  One of the video seems to malfunction and shows that it is longer then 45 seconds.  I tried to delete it and open up another one... and then another video seems to malfunction.

    Hi Mylenium,
    upfront:
    I hope I won't be marked as spam now, since I am posting on a few relevant discussions now to this topic.
    However, I really would like to ask the people who have experienced this problem to see if they were able to solve it.
    Now the real deal:
    I posted a question in this discussionDynamicLink Media Server won't let me import video for video frames to layers anymore.
    The linked discussion is a lot younger, which is why I posted there first.
    I also put in information on the steps that I have tried and my computer specifications.
    I am experiencing this problem for a while now and hope you and jones1351may be able to help out.

  • Import and Management of Video Files by Date Still Broken

    It really is very disappointing that after 3 versions, and 110 bug fixes, basic things like importing or managing a video file by date is still completely broken.
    Even more troubling, is that for someone who uses LR3 this is a very obvious problem, and should be very easy to fix.
    When you import a file on a wide range of cameras the date that is used for the video file as far as LR3 is concerned is the date you are importing it, not the date it was taken. This makes any management of the file, especially when managed next to pictures, very difficult.
    The problem, as far as I can tell, is that in Windows, a file has both a 'Date Created' and a 'Date Modified'. 'Date Created' is whenever the file was created on the PC. If you bought a new computer and transferred a bunch of files over on 30/12/2010, all of your files will have a 'Date Created' that is 30/12/2010 regardless of when the photos or videos were taken. Or if you take a video on September 1st and import it onto your computer September 15th, it will have a 'Date Created' of September 15th.
    'Date Modified' however lists the date that the file was last changed. For video files, that most likely was the date the video was shot.
    Every program I have ever used for video files has always organized them by Date Modified (when organizing them by date). For example, its the default in Windows 7 Explorer when showing video files, all the video files listed by the date you have taken them. Date Created really doesnt have any useful information.
    Its inexplicable to me why LR3 uses Date Created instead of Date Modified. It is a glaring error, that should be easily fixed. Microsoft can manage to do it right, as a byproduct in its OS, Im not sure why an imaging company in a $400 piece of specialist software cannot.
    And just in case this is overlooked as a minor problem, it certainly is not. It happens to the following cameras:
    D90 (first camera to shoot video)
    D3s (thought by many to be the best low light camera)
    D7000 (likely to be Nikon's most important DSLR)
    D3100 (likely to be Nikon's most purchased DSLR)
    Canon S95 (one of 2 most popular P+S for DSLR owners)
    Fuji 31fd (Ill never forget you!)
    And those are just the cameras I have on my desk, Im sure it happens to many others.
    Also, when importing these files by date, LR3 will import them into a folder 1 date later then the date that LR3 is using for the file. So, just to be clear, you could take a video on May 1st, import it into LR3 on May 2nd and LR3 would say it was taken May 2nd, and it would be placed in the folder for May 3rd.
    Im really not sure why something so basic has not been addressed in so long, and it makes any sort of managment of video files by date in LR3 useless.
    Very disappointing.

    I agree that the wrong file system date is being used. But I scanned all my Lightroom files (manually) tagged with 'video'. When the file contains suitable metadata with a capture time that is used. When that's missing, the (wrong) file system date is used.
    Interestingly I even found one camera where the dates were originally right (in 2009), then disappeared for a while (probably due to a firmware upgrade!) and then came back again. Summary of what I found:
    Very old (Philips) webcam / format AVI / no metadata visible / wrong date
    Canon Powershot A80 / format AVI / metadata visible / right date
    Nokia N73 cellphone / format MP4 / no metadata / wrong date
    Canon EOS 5D Mark II around 2009 / format MOV / metadata visible / right date
    Canon EOS 5D Mark II around 2010 / format MOV / no metadata / wrong date
    Canon EOS 5D Mark II around 2011 / format MOV / metadata visible / right date
    So my conclusion is that the camera makers are making a bit of a mess when they introduced video. Nikon introduced its video a year or so later than Canon. I don't know if "no metadata" means that there is none, or that Adobe just doesn't like the format. But given the pattern of the firmware updates with Canon, it looks like Canon and Adobe ultimately agreed on the format. But in any case Lightroom (I am using 3.4.1) has a bug w.r.t. its fallback scenario of reading file system dates.
    In my case, the dates changed when I copied all my data from one disk (old NAS) to a new one (new NAS). It is disconcerting that you get the copying date despite comparison tools declaring the files to be identical (Beyond Compare 3 also keeps an eye on date differences).
    Hope this helps, Peter

    Is the code you told me about (above), is it necessary for older browsers such as ie8? I thought you were saying it was for the HTML5 tags and I wasn't sure I'd bother with it. If it helps people with ie8, I probably should add it.
    I include it (or a link to a localized copy of the file) by default now.
    To truly support the ancient browsers out there, you'd likely need something like...
    <video width="500" height="500">
        <source src="video.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
        <source src="video.ogv" type="video/ogg" />
        <source src="video.webm" type="video/webm" />
        <object width="500" height="500">
        <param name="movie" value="video.swf" />
        <embed src="video.swf" width="500" height="500"></embed>
        </object>
    </video>
    I don't bother with a Flash fall back for old browsers though. I just put in text letting the viewer know they're behind the times pretty severely, like...
    <video width="500" height="500">
        <source src="video.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
        <source src="video.ogv" type="video/ogg" />
        <source src="video.webm" type="video/webm" />
        <p>Your browser is horribly, helplessly and hilariously outdated. Visit <a href="firefox.com" target="_blank">www.firefox.com</a> to download something better, more secure, modern, worthwhile, etc, etc...</p>
    </video>
    For junky old browsers that can't see any HTML5 (which the <video> and <audio> tags are), they get a text message to get something better and a link to go there.

  • I can't get audio or video files into iTunes from my computer. Please help!

    Using Windows 7: My wife and I have seperate iTune accounts in our respective computer profiles.  In my profile and iTune account, everything works fine.  In my wife's account, she's always being asked to sign into iTunes as an administrator. Also, her account will not allow her to transfer music or video files into iTunes by drag and drop.  If I click on "Add File to Library" or "Add Folder To Library", It will add the file but double it in the process so there are two of everything.  And to make matters worse, when iTunes open in her profile, it changes the color of the Windows theme.  Someone PLEASE help me. Thank you.

    Am I correct in saying that the file is on your computer? Is it in a format that iTunes recognises?
    If so, open iTunes, click on the small icon in the top left of the iTunes window and select Add File to Library. Navigate to the folder where the file is located and select it, click on Open. The song is now in your Library, but don't forget that the song's title, artist etc. will reflect the information within the file. So if the file did not have a song title or artist, it will appear in your iTunes as something like "Track 01", by "Unknown Artist".

  • How to input video files into IMAQ VIs

    I have existing mp2 video files (which I could easily convert to other formats) that I would like to input into IMAQ 6.0 VIs to analyze, one frame at a time. Is there a way to grab frames from a video file (without grabbing hardware) to analyze with IMAQ?

    There is an example posted on Developer Zone that will allow you to read back and analyze individual frames from an AVI file (search for IMAQ AVI Read Write Example). If you can convert your MPEG files into AVI files, you should have no problem analyzing the images using IMAQ Vision.
    Bear in mind that the MPEG file formats use lossy compression - that is information present within the original images will be lost as part of the MPEG compression process. This may affect the quality of the images that you will be analyzing with IMAQ Vision.
    NI has never directly supported the analysis of "movie" files for this reason (the use of compression in the file generation process). The IMAQ Vision software tools are generally targetted towards "machine vision applicati
    ons" i.e. where the camera is connected directly to a frame grabber and then processed in software. That being said, I've used this example previously and it should prove a good starting point for your work.

    It's not a matter of exporting a file that Windows will recognize; it's a matter of exporting a file format that Illustrator can import or open.
    A Mac OS version of Canvas is under development, by the way.

    My bad. Typo on my part. I meant one that Adobe will recognize.
