Importing one hundred paragraphs of text

hi everyone.
we have a one hour audio file and we need to place text on the screen.
is there anyway to import a .word doc or text doc and have each paragraph appear as a separate text block in fcp?
we are trying to make a slideshow- sort of like keynote or powerpoint.
but we cant use those packages because we have lots of text....
anyway long story short, what are the options for importing paragraphs of text into fcp or motion?
thanks!
tony

in Motion, Generators/Text you'll find a 'text from file' generator; file has to be .txt, each CR is a new 'title' ....

  • How can I [cmd]+A including text boxes? Or how to import one Pages document into another Pages document?

    Hi there,
I am working on my thesis with several Pages documents (for the first time). And I really have searched all over the Internet to find an answer to exactly my question but I cannot find it.
First my question was: How can I import one Pages document into another one? I found the answer on that (I think) and there is nothing else than just make a new section and copy/paste it in.
But then another issue pops up: I cannot [cmd]+A my whole document including the texboxes to paste it in the other Pages document. Then the document will be paste without the textboxes (and I have quite a lot of them in that document) and the text will not be at the right place.
So please explain to me: How I can combine two Pages documents and keep them exactly the way they are? Is that even possible?
I thank you so much in advance!

    Hi Fruhulda,
I have already tried to mark the textboxes in line but that did not work, and besides then the text and the boxes won't be at the rigt places either. Thank you for your reply .

  • Keeping a picture together with a certain paragraph of text

I think this is probably a very rookie question but I am having a problem keeping my pictures where I want them. I need them to stay together with a certain paragraphs of text.
A- "Lock position" doesn't work. I don't care where in the doc. they are as long as they stay with the right text.
B- Anchored objects don't seem to be the answer, I want to do text wraps around the picture.
    All suggestions are appreciated.
    Bubby Bella

No, that's not a problem, as long as the anchor is in the right place. Use a "custom" andchored object, rather than inline, and make sure the anchor is in a line ahead of the ones you want to wrap. A custom anchored object can be moved anywhere on the page and will continue to move with the anchor point.
The illustration below shows two anchored objects with text wrap applied. The anchors are the first characters in the Notes: paragraph, and the postions are set as part of an object style that includes the text wrap, font (for the caption) and position information. The anchored object options dialog dispalyed is for the caption.
In this case I didn't need to worry about wrapping the top, but pushing the image down on the page gives you this:

  • InDesign CS3 Scripting XML Import Multiple Images into same Text Frame

I am having trouble importing multiple images into the same Text Frame using XML import. I imported 5 images into the text frame. However, all 5 images are laying on top of one another. Does anyone know if there is a way to have all images laying out like how Microsoft Word handles inline images, i.e., laying out next image to the right of previsous image in the same line and if there is not enough space left in the line, then wrap to next line. Thanks in advance. I understand I could use JavaScript to do post import processing, e.g, calculate the image size and place each images accordingly. But I am trying to see whether there is a way to do this without scripts.

You can apply an object style to all anchored images by script. A text frame containing main flow should be selected.
    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    var textFrame =  app.selection[0];
    var rectangles = textFrame.texts[0].rectangles;
    if (rectangles.length > 0) {
         for (var i=0; i < rectangles.length; i++) {
              rectangles[i].appliedObjectStyle = doc.objectStyles.item("Cover");
However, there is a better approach:
    Step 1
Create place holders for a single "Book" element and format it as needed -- apply an object style to the cover.
    Step 2
Import the xml file -- the placeholders are replaced with data from the 1st xml element
    Step 3
Drag & drop the element containing all "Books" elements into the main flow -- all elements are placed and formatted the same way as in step 1.
Finally, add a new page, click the overset text icon and autoflow text to add pages so that to fit all the text.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I copy a paragraph of text from a Kindle book on the iPad?

I just purchased a book to read on the Kindle app on my iPad.
I would like to copy a paragraph of text to email to someone or to possibly quote in a blog post.
How can I copy a paragraph of text from a Kindle book on the iPad?

I'm very late to the conversation but thought I'd chime in since I've just been dealing with this myself. One way to copy from Kindle books is to make sure that you have your settings to backup highlights etc. online, then highlight the text in the Kindle app, go to your Kindle webpage (https://kindle.amazon.com/your_highlights) and copy the text from there.
Remember, to be able to do this you have to set the app to backup highlights etc. I think this is set individually for each book. On my iPad the default is to backup.

can't it tell by the visual formatting of indents, text proximity/clusters, etc?  if humans can tell, why can't acrobat be trained to tell?

  • True black converting to rich black when importing one specific PDF

I am using InDesign CC. When importing one particular CMYK PDF file into my document, the black text is converting to 4-color rich black. I have InDesign 5.0 on another computer. Following the same procedure on that computer, the text remains 100% K. My settings are the same, as far as I can tell.
Other designers across the country using this same ad have no problem. The text remains 100% K. We are all using InDesign, but I am the only one using InDesign CC.
I do not have this problem with any other ads (so far), but I have been using CC for only two months.
    Any ideas?

It has been over a month since I walked through her settings with her, Rob, and the minute details have been replaced in my brain. I do know that she built the ad in CMYK, used 100%K for text, left the layers unflattened, ensured she had a background layer. In her PDF output settings, she converted to destination, and her destination profile was CMYK SWOP 2. I had her try CMYK web uncoated v2, as well. I don't recall what her overall color setting was set to (North America General Purpose? Custom? Again, nothing that alarmed me).
Sorry I don't have more details. She isn't interested in helping me investigate this further, since I am the only one with difficulties.
As far as changing the assigned profile within InDesign, yes, I tried that. It didn't help. I believe I exhaused all possible combinations for output.
Good to hear (in a sick sort of way) about the problems with Acrobat. I had read about Acrobat having difficulties with preserving numbers, so I wasn't as concerned about the output preview. But on the other hand, I wasn't sure if it might be an "a-ha" symptom for this particular PDF.
So many possibilities, so little time.   Your explanations have helped my stress tremendously. Many thanks!

  • Justification of One-Line Paragraphs?

    Hello,
I'm new to InDesign -- just started using it this week.  I'm using it to produce a 310-page text book.  So far, I really like it a lot.
But I'm having a problem with justification.  For paragraphs that run several lines, everything works great.  But when I have a one-line paragraph, where a hard-return creates a line break, InDesign stretches the text to occupy the entire space.  It obviously looks really ugly.
The only option I seem to have is to use a different paragraph style for every one-line paragraph, but that is really a pain!  I am assuming there is a better way to handle this?  Can someone please tell me how?
    Thanks,
    Matthew

    Hello Everyone,
Thank you all for jumping in...
To Joel -- In my textbook, I have discussion material and sample papers.  One of the ways I am differentiating discussion material from samples is the presence or absence of fully justified paraghraphs.
To Bob -- the last lines are "stretched" so the words fill the entire line from left to right inside the margins, even if there are only two or three words.
Peter -- the flush space idea sounds like it is too ornate to use on all my regular paragraphs.  Plus, it still doesn't solve the problem of single-line paragraphs getting fully justified.
Well, it sounds like I may have to opt not to use full justification with InDesign.
Unless, of course, those of you with more experience have another idea...
    I really appreciate your help!
    Thanks,
    Matthew

  • How to Import one slideshow from Photoshop Elements 5 into 8?

    Hi!
Please advise on how to import one slideshow created in Photoshop Elements 5 in to Photoshop Elements 8.
The customer is trying to do the same, but all he is getting is text captions, not the images.
I tried doing the same on my station, but could not re-create the problem.
Please advise. Any link would be highly appreciable.
    Thanks...

    Hi! Thanx for your response.
It is not clear that he has imported it as wmv or pdf, but the slideshow has to be imported in such a manner that it can still be edited (Captions, effects etc.)
Creating a wmv or pdf will not allow the same.
    Any Ideas?

    You can try this:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/change-installed-language.html
It's possible to install another language on top of the language you already use. You need to switch your system's language to be able to use the other one.

  • How do I export/import keyboard shortcuts to a text file

How do I export/import keyboard shortcuts to a text file?
It would be nice to export them, edit and/or add to them in a text editor on my iMac, then import them back into iPhone and iPad.

You can backup the bookmarks to a file, then copy that file to the new computer and import them, for details see [[Backing up and restoring bookmarks]].
You can copy more than just the bookmarks. The user data, such as bookmarks and passwords, are stored in the profile folder. You can copy the data manually by copying the contents of the profile folder, for details see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup Profile backup - MozillaZine Knowledge Base] or [[Backing up your information]].
There are some add-ons and utilities that can make this process easier. The first one is the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2109/ FEBE] add-on which can be used to copy a profile. Another option is the free [http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ MozBackup] utility.

  • Separating paragraph body text from level 3, 4 & 5 headings in the TOC

    Hi,
Could anyone help me know how the paragraph body text is separated from level 3, 4, or 5 headings in heading styles?
The APA Manual, 6th edition says that these level headings are immediately followed by the paragraph body text; but if I do that
and put the headings in word styles, the text is also added! How do I separate them?
    Thanks.

If you have been using an old APA template (there is one setup for Word 2003, for example), or you have started from an old document set up for APA styling, then the chances are tht the Heading styles are set up wrongly. In those days you had to do all that
stuff with hidden paragraph marks etc. You should not have to do that in Word 2010.
In the old templates, the Heading styles were set up as "Paragraph" styles. You can find out which sort yours are by opening the document you are struggling with, finding the relevant Heading style name in the Home tab, Styles group, right clicking on it
and selecting "Modify...". For the new type of Heading style, you should see Style Type "Linked (paragraph and character)". In an older template, you will just see "Paragraph".
In the latter case, when you select the part of the paragraph text that you want to be in the ToC and apply the Heading style, the style wil be applied to the whole paragraph. That's why you used to have to split the paragraph into two, and hide the paragraph
mark that follows the heading part. But with the correct style definitions, it should work the way I described.
Another possibility is that you have the correct "linked" styles but they have been disabled. If you click in the box at the bottom right of the Home->Styles group, you should see the list of styles, and there is a box at the bottom that controls that
    behaviour.
If you are using an old template, then my suggestion is that you start with a new one document o template designed for Word 2010. I'll have a look, but you may have your own sources for that.

  • Importing one Pdf document into another.

I am trying to import one Pdf-document into another using a Reference XObject. I am looking at thePDF- specification, and I thought I was doing things the right way, but its not working. The PDF-specification doesen't have an example of how to do this, only an explanation.
Below is the PDF-file I am testing with (if anyone can be bothered looking at it   ). The file embeds another pdf-file, and is supposed to show a part of the embedded file at a certain position.
Again, if anyone can be bothered looking at my PDF and see if they can see what I am doing wrong here I would appreciate it.
(There is nothing wrong with the embedded file itself...)

PDF is a binary format. The most important piece in a PDF file is the cross
reference table. It contains byte offsets to the different objects in a
file. If you insert just one space (which in a true ASCII file will not
change much), you are making all byte offsets after the insertion point
invalid. They now all point to something different than the start of an
    object.
Because there is no standard about how line endings are encoded in text
files, every time may add (or subtract) a byte - depending on what computer
system and what editor you use to convert your PDF to fake-ASCII, and then
again what I use to try to convert it back to PDF. If you are using a
Windows system and I'm using a Mac, the cross reference table gets
corrupted. And that's even before the web server does it's magic and
    potentially adds data.
If you want somebody to look at your file.
Have you looked at the post I linked to? The settings in Acrobat are
important. You need to enable Reference XObjects, AND you have to declare
the directory where your target file is stored as trusted.
From what I can see in your PDF code, you are doing a whole bunch of cm
operations. You may want to consolidate all those into one operation. I
have not done a detailed analysis, but you could potentially shift your
data off the page. Keep it simple and see if that makes a difference.
