Importing P6 schedule to Oracle Projects

Is there anyone in this forum who has worked on importing Primavera activities to Oracle Projects?

Hello All,
thanks for your replies. We are currently using P6.1 enterprise version. We are currently implementing Oracle EBS Projects suite R12.0.6
We want to implement earned value management system through Oracle Projects.
We have two planning structures. One is the financial structure where we create the budget and also capture the actuals in something called "Cost activities".
Other is the execution structure which is basically done by the project planners in P6 and has a completely different structure as compared to the financial structure.
But for us to calculate the earned value, we need to collect the cost conponents and the performence components in some common structure.
Generally the project planners use their WBS to plan their activities. So we shall use the "Activity Codes" of P6 same as our "Cost Activity" structure and assign it to the Primavera activities so that on doing "Group and Sort" in P6 using these Activity codes, the activities shall get oriented in our desired structure.
So, I would like to know that while importing the primavera activities to the project plan in Oracle Project Management module, are the P6 activities impoprted based on the WBS only or it can be imported in any other order using primavera's activity codes.
Thanks & Regards

  • Task dependencies and scheduling in Oracle projects and project management

Am I correct in the belief that Oracle projects/project management does not have the ability to create, manage and track dependencies between tasks in a project ? And to achieve that micro level of planning I need to use something like Microsoft Project Integration ?

    Gordon,
Project integration is the link between Oracle Projects and MS Projects.
If you want to define dependencies between tasks, MS Project is best bet
    for you.

  • MSP Integration with Oracle Projects

    Hi Dina,
Does the integration between MSP and Oracle Projects work without any issues in R 12.1.3? We've tried using it in the past with R 12.0.6 but have to say the experience was not good. It used to work at times and fail on other times. Most of the times the first time import from MSP to Oracle Project used to work but subsequent changes to the WBS used to give issues while trying to import into Oracle Projects (even though the link to the Oracle Project existed in MSP).
One of our new customers (Construction Company) wants to create the WBS in MSP (Microsoft Project ver 2003 or 2007) and then import it into Oracle Projects to track progress, effort and cost. Any changes to the WBS (which happens frequently) will be done in MSP and imported back into Oracle Projects. Does the above mentioned requirement work consistently in R 12.1.3? Please let us know.
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Sri

The MSP integration requirements that you describe should work in the latest versions of 11i e.g. (FP.M RUP4) as well as R12.1.3.
My experience is that providing all scheduling is done in MSP then the integration functionality works well.
The recommended process flow for MSP integration is:-
    •     Oracle Projects: A project manager creates a project in Oracle Projects from a project template containing information for deliverables, work breakdown structures, and resource assignments
    •     MSP: The unscheduled resource and workplan data is downloaded to Microsoft Project for scheduling
    •     MSP: The project is scheduled in Microsoft Project based on task assignments, task dependencies, task constraints, and other attributes
    •     MSP: The scheduled workplan data is uploaded to Oracle Projects for publishing
    •     Oracle Projects: The project workplan is published in Oracle Projects
    •     Oracle Projects: After the workplan is published, the project is accessible to all team members working on the project. Team members work on their assignments and report their progress in Oracle Projects
    •     Oracle Projects: The team members' progress on the tasks is collected for updating the project plan
    •     Oracle Projects: The project plan is updated with the team members' progress
    •     MSP: The project is now unscheduled. The unscheduled project plan is downloaded to Microsoft Project for rescheduling
    •     MSP: The project plan is rescheduled in Microsoft Project and the task information is updated
    •     Oracle Projects: The rescheduled workplan is uploaded to Oracle Projects for publication

  • Scheduling tasks created in Oracle Projects

Is it possible to use Advanced Scheduler/Field Service to schedule tasks created in Oracle Projects? How can I achieve this integration?

The only integration I know of for Projects requires Project Contracts and the use of deliverables.

  • Can Oracle Purchasing automatically import requisitions from oracle project

is there a way whereby,Oracle Projects automatically creates requisitions for goods and services
required without having to enter requisitions manually in oracle purchasing and
assigning project, task, and expenditure type automatically? If it is possible
kindly tell me which modules are involved and kindly send me the setup steps
required in order to be able to do so.

    Hello
It is possible to interface project based requisitions from Oracle Projects to Procurement. This functionality is part of Project Managment (Projects FP_M). In Projects Management you may setup inbound deliverables on the workplan. A user may then open the deliverables page, select the appropriate deliverable, and from the action menu run the initiate purchasing.
You may want to review Project Management User Guide for details.

  • Importing bc4j from jar in project

    Hi,
since we have a complex application, we want to group application modules logically into smaller modules (submodules), which must be combined to yield more complex modules. Every submodule lives in its own project, so reusing a submodule in a more complex project implies that that submodule must be imported into the project hosting the more complex appmodule.
Within a project, as soon as a BC4J module has been created (call it the "base module"), the "import business components" option becomes avaiable. With this, BC4J can be imported, e.g. from a jar file.
Everything works fine, as long as JDeveoper is not exited. The imported views, viewlinks, etc. can be used in the datamodel of the base module, and the tester runs neatly on the compex applicatoin module, as well for the native as for the imported views.
After the project has been rebuilt, everything has been saved, and JDev is exited, on restart, the imported BC package is still visible, but all views and links belonging to it are now gone, since an error occurs loading the BC4J xml file (strange since at first the xml file could obviously be parsed without problem). I include the error trace at the end of this message.
Even though an additional classpath to the imported jar file has been set, and a library containing the imported jar has been defined and added to the new project, the load error persists.
If the bc4j are not imported from jar, but directly, no such error occurs!
Is this a known problem (in Jdev 9.0.3.1035) and are there any workarounds?
    Alex

There is a bug in 9.0.3 that occurs if the jar file you are importing is on a different drive letter than the one that your project is on. If the jar and your project are on the same drive then everything works ok. If they are not, the symptoms match the ones you are describing. The workaround is to relocate the jar file to the same drive. This has been fixed for future releases.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is Oracle Project Management has all features which Microsoft Project Plan?

    Hello Experts,
Customer wanted to start using Oracle Project Management suit completly along with little Microsoft project plan. as of now most of the projects are using microsoft project plan for project management and Oracle Project suit is for Costing and Billing.
But in order to start this initiative, we need to explain the difference which Oracle Project Management can not able to do but Microsoft project plan can. Based on this management will take the decesion.
As per my understanding, Orace Project Management can perform all the tasks except scheduling. As it supports scheduling from third party software like Microsoft project plan / primavera etc.
Rest I think Oracle Project management suit is equally matured to perform all the project management task which Mircosoft project management can perform.
So experts , can you please confirm my understanding and provide me some light on this topic.
    Thanks :-)

    Hi,
First of all, I would like to know what are the various things you are performing with a Microsoft project plan apart from scheduling the resources to a specific project .
Through Oracle Project Management, you can control the visibility of a resource, assign it to a particular project and control the tracking of the time in various assignments. If that is what you are trying to achieve through Oracle Project Management icnluding the other features it has, you can surely go for it.
Let me know if you have any doubts on it.

  • Oracle Projects VS Primavera

    Hi All,
Can any please let me know Benfits, Features between Oracle Projects VS Primavera?
    Appreciate immediate responses
    Regards

    Hi
Primavera is a scheduling tool, where you plan the project activities, assign resources, may track resources load and update planning.
Oracle Projects is basically an accounting system for costing and billing, which Primavera cannot do. It is integrated with other ERP modules.
Oracle Project Management has many similarities with Primavera, but is lacking the scheduling engine.

  • Compare Oracle Project Management and Primavera

    Hi All,
We are using Primavera today and it is not integrated to Oracle.
We are also currently implementing Oracle Projects Management (R12.1.3) and trying to evaluate if Primavera can be replaced by Projects Management. Based upon my little experience with Primavera - I see some advantages of Primavera over Projects Management e.g.
    a. Primavera is more user friendly than Oracle Projects Management.
Primavera: easy to create workplan; configurable views; generate reports with gantt charts
    b. Primavera has scheduling engine to derive schedules based upon dates/duration/logic while Project Managment does not have it.
    c. Gantt charts are better in Primavera than Oracle Projects Management.
Has anyone also done similar kind of analysis and evaluated the need of Primavera integration with Oracle Projects Management? I would appreciate if you can share your inputs.
    Thanks,
    Nitin

    Hi,
I have used both the product. For project management i would suggest to use primavera for the same reason u mentioned.
the only disadvanage in primavera is it is not integrated with ERP.
Now oracle provide a AIA PIP integration package to integrate Primavera with oracle Projects(Limited integration). Use primaver for Project managment and oracle for Project Costing and Billing

  • Dina, Differenc Betn R12 Oracle Projects Vs Oracle 11g Fusion Project Portf

    Hi Dina / Experts,
Can anyone of you help me in getting the product features differences between R12 Oracle Project Suite Vs Oracel 1Fusion 11g Project Portfolio Management?
can you please provide me reference document / link / RCD / PPT if possible..which helps in understanding exact differences?
    Thanks
    :-)

    Hi Chris, Steve,
Not sure how it is working for you, but what I trying to is to reuse the sharable base adf bc model in multiple projects (using jdev 11.1.1.1.0). Basically, i have the following structure
    1. Base Model project (first workspace): that has an ADF Library deployment profile. In this project, I made sure that the project -> Project Properties -> Business Components -> Options-> Copy Package XML files to ClassPath is checked.
    2. Another MODEL project (Second workspace): I don't have any view controller project here. I can add the adf library (created in #1) through the resource palette to my second model project that is in a separate workspace, but when i try to create a new entity in this project that is based on an old entity, the wizard does not show any base entities that were packaged in the base model project that was created in #1.
Do you have any tips? In additon to the links you mentioned above, I have gone through the following, but of no avail. I would appreciate any help.

  • Oracle Projects for Exploration and Drilling

Do oracle projects can be used for exploration and drilling in oil and gas company?
What are modules which can cover these operations? Please Help

    Hi
Oracle Projects suite can be used for that industry. You could set each exploration initiative as a single project, track its execution and actual costs versus the schedule and cost budget.
At minimum you will need Projects Costing. You might also explore the added value of Project Management.

  • Legacy Timesheet System and Oracle Projects

    Dear All,
Is it possible to interface legacy timesheet system with Oracle Projects. The intention is to enter timesheets/hours thru the legacy system and calculation of revenue and invoice in Oracle Projects.
    1)Is this achievable, without issues?
2)How complex is this to achieve?
3)Any URL or documentation will be really helpful in this regard.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Anand

    Hi
There is no need for API.
You should write your own script to populate the interface table.
When you run the process PRC: Transaction Import, the system is validating the transactions. Only the valid transactions are imported as Expenditure Items. Exceptions remain in the interface, and you can review and correct those.
Review the deatils on Oracle Projects APIs, Client Extensions and Open Interface Reference.
Note, you should have set up a Transaction Source in Oracle Projects for your legacy Time system.
