Importing Palm Desktop 2.6 to OSX v.4 (Tiger)

Hi there,
I am a Mac user and purchased a new computer about a year ago.  My former Palm software, 2.6, was on my old computer, a Mac with OS 9.2.2 installed.  I e-mailed the files to myself, and opened the version of Palm I uploaded to my new Mac, OSX v.4.11.  I cannot open or integrate the old files into the new.  What do I do?  I have hundred of contacts I do not want to hand enter.  I am not sure of the version of Palm on the new Mac, but I think it's in the 4 series.
Thank you,
Kris

Hi there,
I have never had a device until recently, and have yet to use it.  Someone gave me a Palm V.  However, I have used the software, and downloaded the version suited to my OSX 4.11 to that hard drive.  I then e-mailed my files to myself, attaching the old data files and downloaded them to the desktop of the new computer.  I do still have the old computer, though never had a "device" back then.  I do not think the Palm V will synch with the old, old database (2.6.)  I'm not sure how to "export" otherwise.  Can you please clarify?
Thank you!

  • Import Palm desktop todos into iCal

    Hi all,
does anybody found a solution yet how to import palm desktop todos into ical. The export function of Palm Desktop is only tap/line or palm desktop format. Or is there a software which could translate this into vcal or ical?
Thanks alot in advance - Christoph

When I export Tasks from "Palm Desktop 4.2.1 and HotSync Manager Rev D (Mac)" (downloaded from http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/33219_en.html) there are only two format options, namely, "Palm Desktop," and "Tab & Return."
Both options create tab-delimited files without headers. Unfortunately, the dates in these files dates in these files contain commas because they are formatted as:
    longMonthName dd, ccyy
I've tried converting these files with lots of CSV (or TSV)-> iCal converters but I couldn't get any of them to work except for Toodledo (toodledo.com):
    http://www.toodledo.com/connect_text.php
If anyone knows any other utility or service that can import tasks that are exported from Palm Desktop for Mac, please post them in a reply.
    Thanks.

  • How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?

    Hello,
How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?
I have a Palm Tungsten E handheld which just died.
Luckily, all my data is backed-up on my Palm Desktop V4.2.1.
I just bought an iPod-Touch, so I would like to easily transfer
all my data (Addressbook, Calendar, etc) from the Palm Desktop
on my Mac (OSX 10.5) to the equivalent Mac applications
(Address Book, iCal) which will then allow me to view and update
    them on my iPod-Touch.
How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    David

Hi David. The contact information is straightforward. Bring up your Address List in Palm Desktop, then select Export under file. You pick vCard as the format, and save the resulting file where ever. In Address Book, you then select Import --> vCards under file. You may need to edit things like birthdays by hand afterwards.
I am still working on the Calendar information.

  • Importing a vCal file that was exported from Palm Desktop

Hopefully someone can help me out here. My wife uses Palm Desktop v4.2.1 to manage her Treo (we share a Mac mini). I figured out how to export the Datebook from Palm Desktop as a vCal file, and then import it into iCal. The problem is, there appears to be an error or corruption happening in the process. Some events are duplicated, while others are recurring every single day even though they weren't originally set that way. On her Treo and in Palm Desktop, the events are correct and appear as they should. So either the Palm Desktop is corrupting the data on the way out, or iCal is misreading it on the way in.
Has anyone experienced this (or similar) situation and if so, were you able to resolve it? I use iCal to manage my calendar on my iPod Touch (syncing via iTunes), and I'd like to have my wife's calendar on there as well, but not have to import or recreate events one at a time. I should also mention that her Treo 650 is not supported by iSync, so that option is out. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Please allow me to pile on this thread as I, too, am looking for answers to this problem. I am using Palm Desktop 4.2.2 to export my calendar from my Tungsten T3 to something iCal and my new iPhone 3G can understand, but the results so far have been a pig's breakfast of recurrence errors and birthdays that last two days.

  • How to import old Palm Desktop Software (sync with Treo 650) to New Computer ?

Running '07 version of Palm Desktop - Calendar/Contacts etc. on old computer.  Copied data & files into folder and placed on desktop of new computer.  Installed new version - Palm Desktop by Access onto new computer (Windows 7) & tried to import data from folder - no go.  Still have old computer and could save to disk - but not sure how to go about procedure.  Or, is there an older version of Palm Desktop available to download on new computer that will allow importing of data from folder?  Help !!  Thanks.

The best way is to install the Palm desktop version you had with your device and hotsync. If your device is still working install the Palm desktop to your new computer and run a hotsync with the conduits set to handheld overwrites desktop. If your new computer is a 64 bit version of windows 7 read the post 64bit drivers are here. This post has the liink to the driver and install directions. Aceeca 64bit driver

  • Importing from palm desktop

I want to import my Palm Desktop's date book into iCal, but I am having trouble exporting from Palm. Whenever I choose vCal as the export format in Palm Desktop 4.0, the application crashes.
Are there any workarounds for this problem?
    Thanx.

Are you referring to Palm data stored on a device running Mac OS X, or one running Windows PC? You indicate Mac OS X in your configuration description line, but mention Outlook. Huh?
Palm data migration from the Windows OS without the availability of a Palm devices is a serious challenge. Okay, it's almost impossible. On a Mac OS X platform, it's far less problematic, but ONLY contact data in vCard form and events alone in vCal form can be exported from the Palm desktop in files capable of being imported into the Address Book and iCal. Memos and notes are a lost cause.

  • Importing a Palm Desktop DBA file into Outlook

I'm looking to import my Palm datebook etc into Outlook.
However when i select export in palm desktop I only get the option of DBA.
In outlook I don't get that option as an import choice.
I see i can select an idividual calendar entry as vCal to export, but I don't want to export many years of entiries one by one.
Can anyone offer any advice, thanks

  • Editing contacts in gmail after export/import from Palm Desktop is a messy affair

So far, from what I can see, my contacts are synchronizing well between the Pre and my gmail contacts list.  Being easily amused, I guess it's pretty slick the way it works.  But exporting them from Palm Desktop and importing them into the gmail contacts list was just a jumbled mess.  Almost none of the actual fields from PD mapped correctly to the gmail fields, so all of my info got lumped into the "notes" field in gmail.
It's easier and faster to edit them in gmail than on the Pre, so that's what I've been doing...fixing about 300 contacts one at a time.  You can cut/copy/paste the info from the notes field into the correct data field.  But there's one really weird thing that happens if you try to drag-and-drop info, say a telephone number or an address, from the notes field into its own field above.  The data appears to move over.  But once you save the change, anything you dragged into its own field disappears.  Trying to go through the list quickly, I didn't notice this strangeness until I had gone through a large enough number of my contacts to really make me swear.

    smkranz,
I had a similar mess to clean up.  I figured that Google's contacts would work better with an import from Outlook and a direct export from Palm Desktop 4.x or 6.x.  I used Chapura's Pocket Copy to push my Palm Desktop 4.2 data into Outlook, and then exported my data from Outlook and into Google contacts.  I followed Google's directions for that part.  I still had to review my 400 or so contacts and do some mop up, but it wasn't a total train wreck.
Glad to hear that you did get a Pre.  Welcome to the club.  Now we have to work on WyreNut.

  • Need a method for importing Palm III data into a Palm Centro

I just bought a Palm Centro (Verizon), with the expectation of importing data from my old Palm III.  From the Palm III Desktop, I exported Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Memos into separate folders (this was done on a Windows XP PC) and copied the resulting folders & files onto a flash drive.  But when I try to import these files into the Palm Centro desktop (on a new Mac Pro with OSX), the backup files are not in a "recognized format."  Does anyone have a process for reliably getting the Palm III data into the Palm Centro?  Also, is there an easy way to purge unwanted Contacts/Calendar events from the Palm Centro handheld?  With all the trial and error, its accumulating a lot of garbage.  Thanks...

  • Why can't I sync my Palm Desktop with iCal?

When I enable iSync for my Palm (Tungsten E2, Palm Desktop 4.2.1 Rev.D) it disables the conduits I need to sync my Palm Desktop calendar information (Date Book, Tasks, To Do, etc.) with anything else. So when I make a change on Palm Desktop it doesn't even show up on the Palm handheld, much less on iCal. Can I move these "iSync Disabled Conduits" (Date Book, Tasks, To Do, etc.) back into the "Conduits" folder without creating a conflict? I've tried various solutions on the Mac Support site without much luck so far. Does this problem have something to do with OS 10.4's unique issues with syncing? Or is iCal supposed to REPLACE Palm Desktop, not be synced with it?

    Hello kongoscar,
If you are making the jump from Windows to Mac, it might be easier for you to export your data from the Windows side using a comma separated values (.csv) file and importing that data into the PIM application on the Mac.  The Palm Desktop software for the Mac, is, in my opinion, terrible (and I'm a Mac user).
    Alan G
Thanks so much for your reply, Alan G. I am not planning on using the Palm Desktop for the Mac once I get all the data from my Palm into the Macs. I am going to use the Mac software, like iCal and contacts, and probably Bento3 in place of the Palm Memos database, and I HOPE (not sure whether I will like it or not) to use my iPhone in place of the Palm, but I am not yet ready to ditch the Palm until I satisfy myself that the iPhone can do all the calendar and personal database functions as well as what I am used to with the Palm. So this data transfer quandary is not really about transferring the data to the Mac so I can continue to use my Palm and Palm Desktop software as I always have - it is about getting it to the Mac in a way that I can easily then export/import the data into iCal, Address Book/Contacts, and Notes or Bento3. My assumption is that would be easier doing imports from Palm Desktop on the Mac rather than imports from the PC, but maybe that is wrong. For instance, if I do an export from the PC of the Palm's calendar function  and import that into iCal on the iMac, will all the alarms and repeating copies of entries also make it over? Or would the alarms and repeaters more likely make it into an import into iCal if it came from data that was already on the Mac in Palm Desktop for the Mac? It odes seem that the Palm software for the Mac is not as good as it is for the PC, that Mac OSX does not support the Palm as well as earlier versions of Mac OS, and that there are all these problems with syncing on the Mac, from what I've read on the forums.
Given my admittedly rambling description above, do you have any other advice for me?

  • Why wont my Mac Address Book overwrite my Palm Desktop????

I have spent the last few days messy about with this bloody isync and my treo 650 trying to configure the address books in the way i would like.
yesterday i managed to finally back up my palm top (treo 650) and merge it with my mac address book. the only problem with this was that there were a lot of duplicate names, or names from the address book that didnt have numbers etc etc.
Anyway, the good thing was that i now had all of my contacts from my phone into my mac address book.
this morning i spent hours going through my now complete mac address book weeding out and duplicates, and basically making it perfect.
now i cant figure out how to overwrite my treo and my palm desktop on my mac with my mac address book contacts!!!! its driving me crazy!
i am not worried about ical, or any of the other things syncing (although i suppose it would be a bonus) i just want to get my address book contacts on my treo and to overwrite the old messy version of palm desktop that has all of the duplicates in it.
any ideas? i am running OSX 10.4.8 isync 2.3 and have palm desktop 4.2.1
    many thanks
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

not quite sure what has happened now. i backed up the address book and exported the v cards (when you said select all in the left most sidebar did you mean select all of the groups or just the group called 'all'? i selected just the group called all).
i then imported them fine into palm desktop using the methods you said except that in my mac address book i had 586 cards and in palm desktop it only seems to say i have 312.
also when i was copying them it asked it i wanted to keep the new or old version with the only differences i could see between the new and the old cards being that it now said CATEGORIES: Palm in the notes section. i said yes to replacing all of the old ones with these new palm ones.
when i went back to the address book afterwards, it now seems to have taken a lot of various addresses out of the various groups i had them set up in. they are all still there in 'all' though so at least thats something.
i also seem to have some random duplicates in palm desktop.
i have also noticed that if for example in mac address book you dont fill in the first name in the first name box and the surname in the surname box (ie you write the first name and the surname in the first name box) then this can cause problems when you try and display stuff alphabetically in palm desktop.
i have some contacts with just names and emails, and some with numbers, emails etc etc. could this cause problems? i am also wondering if each card isnt set up in exactly the same format, could this cause problems in palm desktop (ie the order you have mobile, home, email etc listed on each card?)
still not sure why i only have almost half of my numbers though!?
    can you help?
    many thanks

I have a Centro/Verizon Wireless using Versamail with accounts established for personal POP and Exchange e-mail synchronization.  The latter account is for work.  Previously I owned a Treo 650p using Versamail.
When I first installed Palm OS Desktop and synched to my Centro device, it was on a Windows XP home computer, and no Versamail accounts were defined.  First I downloaded and installed the Versamail version which allowed Exchange synchronization.  I exported the Treo650p contacts list to a disk file, and imported it onto the Windows XP home computer into the Palm OS Desktop installed with the Centro-supplied CD.  This synched the imported contacts list to the Centro fine.  After I defined all the POP and Exchange accounts, synchronization with the office Exchange contacts list worked fine, and still does.  Synchronization with the windows XP home computer for contacts seems to still be ok, too regardless of the MS Exchange Versamail account commingling with my personal POP accounts.  Maybe the install sequence is overriding the previous posts' notation that MS Exchange mail definition will override synch with Palm OS Desktop?
The problem now is I have a different/second home computer that's Vista os.  I installed the Palm OS Desktop and synch with the Treo.  The contacts list is not synching to this second home computer, maybe because I didn't follow the exact same sequence as for the Windows XP pc?  I can still synch my Centro with my Windows XP pc and that includes contacts.
Is there a way on this second pc to override the MS Exchange contacts override for synchronization without having to go through the exact same install sequence as occurred on the Windows XP machine?

  • Can't get Palm Desktop app to react after syncing with Yahoo mail calendar info

Attempted to move calendar from Yahoo mail page to Palm Desktop in my Macbook--
Yahoo page says "don't use Intellisync" --thre is a new program called Autosync--but it turns out it doesn't work for Macs --clearly, many instructions on Yahoo paged do not apply to Macs--
find this is a common problem on many sites--assumption that all are PC folks.
Imagine how things will go if Microsoft actually buys Yahoo!
Anyway--Created Calendar as a CV file and imported to Palm Desktop--
now cannot get program to run correctly--it appears all of the calendar info was imported to calendar day on which I imported it--so there is a huge amount of info being processed whenever I attempt to interact with the app.--the dreaded beachball appears and spins endlessly--

Is there any solution except to dump the entire app. from my hard drive, lose my archive et. al.

I did the one time sync between my palm Pre Plus and palm desktop.  After powering off the Pre, the imported memos no longer exist.  In fact when you go to the memos there is no option to add a new memo.  All you see is a cork board with stick pins in it.  No option to do anything and no memos appear.
Post relates to: Pre Plus p100ueu (SFR)

I would advise you NEVER use the Memo file in the Palm Pre!
The reason is that after a time you might (like me) end up with 500 or more of these Memos, BUT:
You can NEVER extract them again!
There is NO function at all offered by Palm to extract your Memos from the Palm Pre: Once they are in the Pre you can never get them out again!!
I have just discovered this direct from the Palm chat line itself. The agent was embarrassed to tell me this..
Thus if you decide to move from a Palm Pre of any updated description to another manufacturer, you can wave goodbye to all your memos.
