Importing photos and the endless beachball

I am having problems with iPhoto hanging (or stalling or whatever) when I'm importing photos. This happened before when I had minimal RAM and very little space on my start-up drive. I chalked up the problem to lack of memory and HD space. I beefed up the RAM to 1.25GB and did some housekeeping on the start-up drive. After that the probems seemed to dissapear. Now recenly it has started again. I still have the 1.25GB RAM, but I have a new 160GB start-up drive with around 100GB free. The photos are not being imported to the start-up drive, but instead to a freshly built 3 drive RAID 5. This has got me stumped.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have continuously over the last 6 months struggled with syncing my iphone and ipod with itunes The app continually crashes during the picture import. I have a 3gs with 16Gb so its not a cheap phone. I have 10Gb free. I have 6600 photoes. This is very frustrating and undermines my confidence in your products. My ipod is an ipod 4 with 16Gb also. It does the exact same thing to it. The last time, I had to import photoes a few at the time and with it taking 10-15 minutes each time for 6600 photos it is a long frustrating process. But it will import every photo a few at a time. The error message is just that itunes has stopped working. no hint as to why. AND of course, my phone is out of use for the entire time. You guys must not want to believe ur phones are a necessary tool...or maybe you dont want the consumer to believe it is. I have tried to find solutions on your website as well as through other 3rd party communities. Ultimately they were of no use. I stumbled onto my solution by accident since Im a bit of a computer geek...a semi-geek.

basically whenever I try to sync my ipod touch 4G 64GB it crashes iTunes when it begins the pictures. if im lucky ill get 4-5 on there before it stops responding. its not my system or anything im running win7x64 8GB DDR3 ram (Corsair XMS3) AMD FX Eight core processor.
It is silly that iTunes cannot add pictures to apple devices. it shatters whatever incline I may have to buy apple products. knda like the Airport Extreem router my dad bought the new firmware, caused my router to not function... why release firmware that breaks a product. -_- <-- off topic but still

You can sync photos from your computer via iTunes, and each folder that you sync will get its own album : syncing photos. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next sync.
In terms of albums that you create directly on the iPad no, effectively you are just creating pointers to the photos in those new albums, so if you delete the original photo you will therefore also be deleting all pointers to it.
You could consider a third-party photo management app instead e.g. Photo Manager Pro

In the older version of iPhoto when I imported photos and gave the event his own name (for exampample "110723 birthday son 2011"), this name was also used in the "masterfile", so I could find the file by his name ("110723 birthday son 2011") in the "masterfile" on my HD and copy and paste it from there to other computers.
In the new version the file gets stored under a seemingly random number, which does not give me any information about the content.
Is there a way to fix this? Would it be different in apperture?

I have Iphoto '09, version 8.1.2 (424). I am having an identical problem. All my pictures are imported into Iphoto when I downloaded them from my camera. Until recently, I thought that the pictures were actually saved in the library. Since I need to crop my pictures for the web, and Iphoto doesn't do that, I purchased Photoshop Elements to do that. To my surprise, when I try to get a picture from Iphoto to Photoshop, it can't be done. That was when I realized, after wasting a lot of time, that the photos are not in the Iphoto library.
I started naming the pictures on Iphoto so I had a recognizable file name to open on Photoshop. Couldn't find it. I looked in the Backup folder and the Transfer software folder (I have a Nikon camera), and the names I entered in the Iphoto display, could not be found.
When I am trying to upload a photo to the web, I get the Finder folder showing with an active folder called "Photos" under "Media", which only displays Iphoto and PhotoBooth. This is a folder name that I cannot find in my HD anywhere when I look for it. If I edit a picture with Photoshop, I am not going to save it back to Iphoto (not sure whether it will work properly). How do I get my folder of edited photos to show when I want to upload a picture to the web?

It looks like the card may be the problem, and your best bet is to try the Card Reader - this will make the card accessible by the Finder and you may be able to drag the pics off to the desktop or, at worst, try recover the pics with an app like MediaRecover

I Nearly bought from Amazon too but I found a thread from Adobe stating that the only recognized outlet for lightoom is themselves and other outlets serial numbers will not be guaranteed.

Hello, I am trying to find a way to import photos from the Photo Library on my iPhone using iPhoto. It seems that the default setting only allows for photos in the 'camera roll' section to be imported and not the full photo library. We recently had to replace a hard drive and only had our photos backed up on mobile devices (iphone and ipad), but would like to import them on to our computer. Thank you.

No, iPhoto can't access these files. There are several apps that will recover the material from an iOS device and bring them over to the Mac.

Import photos and video into different folders

Hi, is there any way to import photos and videos into seperate folders?
I use lightroom to manage my photos and videos, but the videos are much larger so I prefer they are stored in a different location.
I can import them together and drag the photos to a new folder, but this does not create the same folder heirarchy as importing them would.
Currently I import once for photos and onece for videos, but I'd prefer to just "import"

IPhoto takes long time to import Photos and Videos

From a software standpoint why iPhoto sometimes takes so long to import Pictures and Videos?
Example Scenario:
on the iPhone 5 - iOS 7 there are:
2851 Photos in Camera Roll
1000 Photos in Photo Stream
51 Videos (each videos average of 3 minutes long)
on the MAC - OS X 10.9
iPhoto start to import photo, and more or less, after importing almost 500 photos, just get stop at one particular photo and thats it.
What are the reason?

Duplicate imported photos on the iPad

Regarding duplicate imported photos on the iPad: Is there an automated way to detect and delete duplicate photos, specifically imported from the camera connection kit. Assume no iTunes syncing, mac or PC. First party solution preferred, third party app welcome.
Consider the senario, Camera card contents are imported, the card is reinserted into the camera without deleting previous import, new photos are taken, "skip duplicates" is ignored on new import, all photos on the card are imported, resulting in duplicates.
Happy to add additional information, just ask.

Are you sure that:
1. You have the correct disc for your operating system? You have both mac and windows versions on the discs. If you have a mac you want disc 3, not disc 1.
2. PSE is not already installed?

Problems importing photos and iTunes

Have been using iMovie for years - current version 11. All of a sudden, I cannot import photos and music from iTunes into my project. It looks like it will (green plus sign and green bar) but then the perpetual beach ball starts and never stops. I have 22 GB hard drive left and should have plenty of RAM. Bad time for a snag - graduation videos coming up. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance.

You cannot actually sync photos to iTunes, it just accesses the folder you specified and copies the contents to your iPod. When it says it will replace all photos, it means the ones on the iPod, as you can only either sync (and mirror the contents of your photo folder, whatever it may contain) or not sync (and keep the photos on your iPod the way they are)
Also, copying them to the iPod drive will save them there, but to view them on the iPod, you need to go through iTunes.
